[Q] Performance issues HTC One V + CM10 - HTC One V

I've installed CM10 on my HTC One V, sometimes my phone is very, very slow.
Free memory is about 110mb after boot; after a while it stays between 40 and 50mb. That should not be a problem, right?
Further have I deinstalled a bunch of apps, but at some point the device is not responsive anymore. Opening Android Assistant (app) is not working then too, so I cannot determine what is causing the issues. Waiting for a while sometimes solves the problem, otherwise I have to reboot.
How can I determine the cause of these issues? 50-60 mb RAM is that a problem?
I have overclocked the device to 1.7GHz without problems (no reboots etc.)

I had performance problems with CM10 builds as well. I'm assuming it was just an early build issue... but since that ROM isn't going to be getting updates, I've been trying out alternatives.

I am going to install MyOne, perhaps that's better.

mmmm I've been getting the same problems and thinking of either downgrading to CM9 or looking elsewhere.. I'd be interested in in what alternatives we have,,

HTC One X custom rom - Screen Flicker Fix...

Hello everyone one,
I had an international HTC One X locked to the ThreeUK network (1.28). They were rubbish releasing updates namely 1.29.701.11
I get the screen flicker issue, and last night I rooted and installed Revolution HD 9.1.0 (sense 4.1) rom onto my phone.
The phone is soooo much snappier and faster, plus scores 700-800 more on antutu.
My question is, will this custom firmwire update I have done also fix the screen flicker issue and lost memory card data I was experiencing with 1.28 4.0.3??
Thanks.

It should do, wait a couple of weeks for the screen flicker fix to fully implement.

Thanks for the reply.
I'm getting conflicting reports that the screen flicker won't be fixed as I need that specific update and a custom rom will not fix it as it's more to do with the binary and not with the rom side?
Any other ideas ?

Can you reference these conflicting reports?
I firmly believe that the cusotm ROM you have will include the fix (ask the author) but it is fair to say that a few people found the fix didn't work but the majority of handsets were fixed by 1.29.xxx.11.
I cannot reference no. If I find the thread again i'll link it here.
So what's the best route of it being fixed? Maximum brightness?

Hmm, this is what I always wanted to know. Maybe you can shed light on this for me (getting ignored in custom kernel, or CM threads)
The custom kernels are made from the source right? I mean compiled?
Whats the latest one there is? Last time I was on custom kernel there was the official source only from the 0.7 version without the flicker fix.
Or is there already a new source? Or no source needed, they can just hack into the kernel without it?
Also the modded roms, they have their own kernels right? Also a new source with the flicker fix?
Also I didn't have flicker with .11 (got the phone shipped with it) and when I tested custom kernels = flickers, back to stock = no flicker.
On this OTA, it flickers, hoping it will settle, but I can already tell it was faster "fixed" for me on the .11
Maybe there was the data, which will it have to gather from new on as I am now after RUU etc.
I'm having the exact same issue on CM10. I know it's still an alpha build, so I'm willing to wait. But I've asked one of the developers directly, but he/she won't respond.
It is a big problem for some of us, yet it's being ignored. That alone doesn't sit right with me. Does that mean that it's not easy to fix or that it's not in the pipeline (yet)?

You know, I wouldn't mind the flickering as much I am now, if someone of them would at least say something to it. Like "not possible" or "working on it" but ignoring the questions just made me abandon CM for now and I am back to stock.

I totally agree! I'm playing with the same idea of going back to the stock ROM, but I truly don't like Sense. But I ike it more than the flickering though.

I hate sense too . Thats why I have most of it deactivated and use Nova launcher. There is even a sense cleaner here in the forum. But I just frozen the aps I don't like. Should help a bit with deactivating most of the sense stuffs.
I would go for CM, but there were few issues, I had with it besides the flickering.
It's been a while, but did anyone have any luck in fixing the screen flickering in CM10?

[Q] Are the relatively newer ROMS too heavy for Desire Z ?

Hi guys,
I have question regarding my HTC Desire Z .. Ever since I rooted the phone about 1.5 years ago, and have been trying out the newer ROMs, I've slowly realized that my phone is getting slower, slower, and slower .. I'm currently using a Jellybean ROM, and its *extremely* slow ! I mean, at times I receive a call, and the ringer rings about 5-6 times, and during all this time, the phone doesn't have the juice to switch to the phone app, so that I can 'accept' the call ! Ultimately the call disconnects itself!
A friend recently suggested to me that maybe the newer ROMs are two powerful for my phone, and that I need to move to an older Android version ROM, which my Desire Z CAN handle, without this much lag !
Also, I hardly have any apps installed on my phone at all, in an attempt to keep the load low .. I also use 'Advance Task Killer' regularly to kill background apps, but it doesn't really improve anything ..
What can I do to improve the speed of my phone !? I really pisses me off to see a 10-15 second lag when I call someone !
Get rid of the task killer first of all...

I dont think it will make any difference .. I've tried many different ROMs, and its always the same condition with all ... Sometimes my phone become *so* unresponsive that I just feel like smashing it on the ground ! (When I really get upset!)
Also, on another note, when I open Advanced Task Killer, it shows me the amount of free RAM on the top .. Most of the times this value is between 60 MB ~ 100 MB, and sometimes between 100 MB ~ 140 MB .. If never seen this value go above 135 MB or so ... And Desire Z is supposed to have 512 MB of RAM
just full wipe and reflash the rom

If I do that, it will initially be fast .. Even if I install all my apps on the first day, it will still be okay in terms of speed ... But give it a week, it eventually becomes slow .. very slow! .. And the odd thing is, during this week, I don't necessary install/uninstall anything .. the phone just ****s itself in somehow ... And then from then on, it remains slow, no matter what ...
I open Google Maps, takes like 15 seconds to open .. takes another 60 seconds to go to Google Navigation, and then further lags after that ..
Basically there's a lag in *everything* !
Is there a way I can see what is slowing down the phone ?!
Also, is it true or not whether an older phone, such as Desire Z, can or cannot handle a relatively newer Android version ROM ? Maybe this is why the latest Android versions are NOT officially available for phones many times, because the manufacturer knows the device cannot handle that newer Android version ?
If your rom supports ext partitions, make sure all of yours are formatted that way. Chances are you have sopme bad apps, a logcat may hedlp determin abused wake locks or memory leaks. Also you can try downloading battery batt stats or watchdog for more infor

i had a play with elitemod ics the other day & it was defiantly slower than the GB version... it was using more or less double the ram which i suspect is the real problem.....
Yes its true the newer versions are more hungry. We touched on it in one of the andromadus threads recently. I believe the issue to be the cpu. The nexus s has the same amount of ram as us and although its not as good on there as the gnex, its still good. Having bumped my lower cpu limit a notch, its much better. I also tried a few upper limits and found that 1200 to be best as it suffers with animation under that.
But then all dz's are different. Stay on your rom and bump up the lower limits a few clicks and let us know what you think.

I've noticed the slowdowns happening with negligible CPU load and no memory constraints. I suspect a problem with the kernel. At the times it happens, the phone seems to be just doing *nothing*.

Is there any other thing I can try apart from logcat ? I installed Watchdog a few hours ago, but so far it hasn't reported anything out of the way ..
What does have ext partitions do ? How does that speed up the OS ?
Also, I'm probably going to be re-flashing another ROM soon, so please suggest me a ROM ... I'm looking for maximum longterm stability and responsiveness here, so even if a ROM isn't the newest or the most feature-filled, I can still try it out ..
And what is Superwipe (read it in another thread) ?
Normally, when I restore stuff after installing a ROM, I download a fresh copy of the app from the Store, and only restore the app's data using titanium .. is this okay ?
For the sake of starting fresh, flash the ext 4 recovery and flash mimicry as your rom. Read all suggestions in the first few post on mimicry, to flash 4ext I made a thread, you'll find it the first page or so in the general section (dzhboot or something)
Mimicry is one of the best made best performing full featured ics roms for our phones, partitioning everything to 4ext (easily done through recovery) will make it far better. Other bonus tweaks will be added in.
There (in my opinion) are beter performing gingerbread roms, but I do sugest mimicry as it is amazing and the dev has laid out a wealth of knowledge in the first few posts

I'm assuming you're referring to this thread: http://www.forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1714187
Well this is the ROM I'm currently using, which I flashed about 2 months ago, which is giving me all these performance issues ..
I went through the first few pages, but I didn't find any instructions on 4EXT ... The only thing I found was in the OP's FAQ in the start, which said that you should apply ext by downloading 4ext from Play Store, if you get lags ..
Anywhere else I can look ?
Look in general section, somewhere in the first page I posted a thread called dzhboot on g2 or something to that extent, one of the first few posts I eplain how to flash 4ext recovery.
One of the fastest roms I have used is elitemod cm7, maybe try that

I have been wondering the same as the OP. I have been using andromadus and andromadus mimicry roms for the past few month. I tired cm9 unofficial but it was no different to mimicry in terms of lag. Currently on flinny's jb beta http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2005136. Lag is not terrible but too often I am looking at a white screen waiting for something to happen.
I often experience lags opening apps like phone and browser (any browser). Phone hanging when trying to make a call is particularly annoying because my wife asks "why is your phone so ****?"
I would love to have a really smooth experience like others report but even with a fresh wipe I seem to have trouble. When I try to reduce the process limit i still seem to have too many processes running. What should i look for in logcat in terms of tracking down the problem?
Maybe 4ext will sort it out? I am very loathe to go back to a cm7 rom.
Ext4 worked really well for me to speed up my phone.. I highly recommend it.

It's gotta be a certain app your installing thats hogging all your memory, I been running mimicry ever since blk released it n have had very few slowdowns.
Never had a problem receiving/making calls 'wiping' is not the same as 'superwiping' its different then just the name, I suggest you do some reading up before flashing any more roms.

i superwipe, and i've been flashing roms since the g1. I am not seeing any particular process hogging resources. this current jb beta is pretty good but still get some lagging at random.
if that were the case I would love to try and find out what it is.
it seems to me that a minority of users report lags in rom threads and are dismissed without ever really getting to the root of the problem.
I would really like to try and get to the bottom of it. I am going to move to ext4 but if there are other troubleshooting steps to take I am all ears.
Ext4 alone will make a huge difference, and most of the rest of the slow downs will be do to apps/running services which can be seen with a logcat what is continually trying to use cpu resources
If only a minority report slowdowns then either that minority has a different idea of how the phone should run/ they use the phone in a completley different way/ or have different settings and apps then most have.

[Q] Ridiclously slow!

Hi,
My GN was fine when I purchased it a month ago, brand new, but its so sluggish that its almost unusable. Phone dialer, Messaging and almost all apps load with a 3-5 second delay, even the keyboard opens after a few seconds.
I'm on stock 4.2.1 (deodexed) and even flashed fugumod kernel just today hoping it would fix things, I even factory reset it but no joy.
Could it be a hardware issue? is there any way I could run some quick tests to see whats wrong?
A similar thing happened to me when I decided to try a new kernel I've never used before, and it did not agree with my phone. Try a different kernel like lean kernel or Franco kernel and see if it still happens. If so, go back to stock.

Have you used up almost of your memory in the sd card? I don't know if GN's are affected by eMMC bug brick. I've asked this before but they said GN is not affected. It has something to do with a bad chip.

[Q] Ram Issues??

So, my problem is that every ROM I flash that isn't htc sense, like cyanogenmod for instance, my ram fills up to the max. Progressively after using the phone for about an hour (it, generally being very, very fast), it'll slow right down. I got to my running apps to find out if anything is running up my ram, close everything, and I still have 0.0 bytes of free ram... like, wtf? I'm decently experienced with android coding and thought I'd seen it all.. Any help?
"EDIT"
Hey! Sorry for not checking back for so long, I thought the thread was dead.
Just to clarify me and Lars problem for anyone who's trying to help:
We can run any sense based rom 100% okay, I've even tried the new MIUI (sense based) and it works flawlessly(the ram issue I mean). With any ROM on ics or jb that is NOT sense based, our phone will freak out after a short amount of usage and lock up really horribly, to the point of complete silence from the device. It just won't do anything.
Now, I've managed to narrow down the problem myself, although I can't really act on it because I'm not experienced with coding at all. I believe the phones RAM gets taken up because of the com.android.media process. This process will open when the phone turns on and will try to scan for new media, although something strange happens. My RAM continues to fill up for as long as this process is running, the number or free mb slowly getting smaller, until it reaches zero. When this happens, the media process (along with most other processes that would still be running) throw themselves into a loop of restarting and restarting again, until I eventually manage to click the stop button. However, this doesn't help. The phone remains in it's intensively laggy state.
Can anyone help?
Click to collapse
I've managed to discover more information about this problem, and it appears to be stemming from my SD Card. When my sd card is not inserted, media storage doesn't have to run. The phone runs smoothly when this happens, and I have almost 100 mb of RAM free. Although, once I insert the card, media storage starts up and eats up all the RAM on the device until the number reaches 0.0bytes free, in which case the device becomes inoperable. This trend will not change, and I'd like to see if anyone can help me out.
Many thanks,
Marcus // Rekreant

Hope that helps, also which governor for CPU you use? Could be a cause of the slowdowns also.

i have used cm9 for months without problems.. i tried some sense roms lately and revert back to cm9 and now i'm having these problems

hey
i didnt say it was a battery problem. the governor you use can greatly affect the speed of your phone. i usually use smartassv2, because it adjusts the cpu speeds to your usage.
ill say it again, free ram in android is wasted ram. processes get cached, held in the background in ram until they are needed again. because it says you have 20mb free of ram, thats 20 mb thats not being used, which means its useless ram. android task killer (built in by the way) automatically caches or closes old processes that arent in use anymore to make way for the stuff you do use.
dont shoot the messenger, im just explaining how it works. also i have noticed through testing supersick kernels with jb, that some make the phone lag more than others. if you are on cm9, i would advise you to upgrade to cm10, where kernel work is actively being done. ics kernels are not being developed anymore. simon is working on caf kernels and implementing ion, (dont ask me what we use right now, look through his kernel thread for his explanation) which he said what we use right now is not ideal for memory management. there are no guaruntees that what he implements will be pulled back into ics kernels.
cm10 (im on cdma btw) with supersick kernel 12-30 has been rock solid for me. no lag, no slowdowns, and great battery life.
sorry for the wall of text, hope that helps though
Well 20-30 mb free wouldn't be a problem because like you said android does manage things different than windows. But the OP and I have 0 bytes free ram right after boot, so we can't open any app at all, they all crash instantly. So that's our problem, not too little ram, since that's good on android, we have no free ram at all.

did you relock your bootloader and ruu back to stock? sounds like something went haywire in the unlocking/rooting/romming process. also did you flash multiple roms to see if its just the rom you are on? try cm, aokp, pa, sense, etc. eliminate all loose ends.
if you relock, ruu, and unlock/root/rom again with multiple roms/kernels, and the problem still isnt solved, id say you should contact htc. your mainboard may be going bad.
once again, dont shoot the messenger. im just trying to be helpful. gotta eliminate all possible causes before calling it a hardware defect.
Did do all those things indeed. They may have set me up with a faulty mainboard than (I send it to HTC for repair of the mainboard and after that this problem started) f you HTC.
By the way like we said, the problem isn't there on any sense based rom. Only cm/aosp based Roms. So it may not be the mainboard than I think right? If it was it would be on sense roms too I think.

are you cdma or gsm? and yeah, htc may have just got your phone, looked at it, laughed, and sent it back. i have heard many horror stories about companies not even working on stuff being sent in before sending it back out, or sending rejected stuff back out as warranty repairs.
strange that it only happens on aosp based stuff, do you use the task killer in sense? it goes against what i just said to say this, but heck, maybe try a task killer for android. or v6 supercharge your aosp based rom. something has to solve the problem.
I'm gsm. And they did fix my phone for sure since it wouldn't boot at all before the repair so I don't think they just send it back. Did supercharge the aosp rom, didn't help. And I don't use a task killer on sense so that can't be it.

I'm in the same boat. Stock runs fine but all aftermarket roms lag insanely. I've found SIO and NOOP schedulers to be the fastest and even put the CPU on performance and ran the clock up to the max, still lags to the point of being useless. I tried a few roms a few months ago so I forgot which ones but I just tried this ROM again yesterday: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1878994 and even w/o installing really any apps, after a half-day I tried to use the browser and got ridiculous lag. I just gave up on AOSP roms on this phone, least there's a plus, you get the burst camera w/ stock
Bumpity bump.

And up we go. No one has any other ideas?

[Q] Anyone still on Gingerbread? Which ROM is your daily

Hi everyone, I just created this thread as I would like to know who is still on GB 2.3.x. Which ROM (GB) are you using, what are the current bugs or issues? I am asking since I got my Glide with ICS 4.0.4. After some research I came here looking for some answers and procedures on rooting & flashing. Found exactly what I was looking for, thanks to you all btw. Got bored of ICS as it used too much RAM & battery, tried LiteRom, had some issues, then came back to sock rooted, was not convinced. Started using some JB ROMS, issues. KitKat... issues. I want to start using a GB ROM, but I would really like some feedback form experienced users in what are the pro's & con's for GB, as I am aware that there's a lot of apps not compatible with this O.S. I would appreciate some advice from you guys! Thanks in advance
Wow... No one is using GB anymore? LOL... Just wanted to try it out, but I have only received some feedback from Androide3 using Osimod. Well... I guess I'll give it a shot sometime
GB Rogers Stock

Oh cool. Still in stock, how's everything going with your Glide? For rooting GB follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1378082 Make sure you read it at least 3 times, to make sure you got it. There's also this updated guide on installing ROMs & ICS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2623635 :good:

Hi
even if I cannot help you regarding a pro/contra list for GB I'm interested in what your issues were in LiteROM? I'm currently developing a fork based on it because I also had issues - maybe I had the same and therefore solved already
And if so you may not need a pro/contra list anymore

Thanks for your reply ... I used it for a long time, I actually had some issues with the toggles turning on automatically, like gps, wifi and data... Camera will shut down the phone if less than 25% charge, if im not mistaken... Weird FC´s. Other issues I honestly do not remember. I was using ROMs based on KK4.4 like cr droid pac and CM11. But I went back to stock as I wanted a fully functional phone. Rooted, deleted all AT&T bloat. Did some tweaks, and so far so good. I never got used to the idea of GB as for now is way too old...

Hm never had a camera crash but in LiteROM you have the choice of 3 different camera apps maybe I use another one than you had. The toggle thing sounds more interesting because I can't remember that I saw that before! So you want to say that e.g. GPS is turning on automatically?

Oh hell no! Just saw your ROM post in General! Go read it LOL
My Glide has been in a drawer for over a year and I recently decided to try using it again. It's still on GB, rooted and unlocked. I ended up putting it back in the drawer, mainly because quite a few of my apps complained about not having ICS or above.
I would like to update it to a newer, stable, close-as-possible-to-stock ROM when I have time.
I have been using stock ICS 4.0.4 the last 3 weeks, I really have nothing to complain as I did some mods over the stock rom, mostly uninstalling all the att crap, and some unnecesary apps like gmail & google + running in the background consuming lots of resources. So far it has been great, plus I havent had battery issues. It will last the entire day, without a heavy usage of course. Currently waiting for the release of sedirom to try it out as Im getting used to the ol ICS as it is really stable, as if not 100% stable. Has anyone used Xposed with stock ICS? If you have, please let me know which mods have you done with it.

Had my wife on Stock until upgrading to ICS 4.04. Was a bit flaky and upgraded to KitKat. I can definitely say the looks of KK is much better but it sure was more stable on stock. Biggest issues tended to be BlueTooth as we continued upgrading..

I actually used Bubor´s CM11 with KitKat 4.4.2 & 4.4.3. It really is smooth and I really liked it, but I just like my phone with no issues at all, so I went back to stock ICS. Which Rom are you using for kitkat?

Using Bubor's OmniRom 4.4.4.... When we connect it to the car via Bluetooth (after deleting pairing, etc.) it still isn't working... On ICS 4.04 Bluetooth worked fine most of the time, but kept dropping ever so often. My wife's Fitbit Flex wouldn't connect either. Ironically, it does on 4.4.4....
Love my glide
from a hardware perspective I love my glide. I don't really want to upgrade to a new phone, but I have had several annoyances on it. One of them is the Google maps not working with Ice Cream Sandwich. Other annoyances too. I tired the KitKat rom here, and it's very good, but I was trying to get all of the google apps on and I hit a wall with the partition size. Seemed fixable but was driving me nuts. Not sure which direction I should go now.
