Hi,
My GN was fine when I purchased it a month ago, brand new, but its so sluggish that its almost unusable. Phone dialer, Messaging and almost all apps load with a 3-5 second delay, even the keyboard opens after a few seconds.
I'm on stock 4.2.1 (deodexed) and even flashed fugumod kernel just today hoping it would fix things, I even factory reset it but no joy.
Could it be a hardware issue? is there any way I could run some quick tests to see whats wrong?
A similar thing happened to me when I decided to try a new kernel I've never used before, and it did not agree with my phone. Try a different kernel like lean kernel or Franco kernel and see if it still happens. If so, go back to stock.

I was on stock, then tried FuguMod, but it still lags, not as much as before but pretty slow.
Do you have lag spikes? Like many little freezes?

Just stock...should i change anything on the gov settings? Or the voltages? It seems that my device won't support some kernels. If you could tell me something to change for making it better, that would be great.
Have you used up almost of your memory in the sd card? I don't know if GN's are affected by eMMC bug brick. I've asked this before but they said GN is not affected. It has something to do with a bad chip.

My phone is always shutting itself off or randomly rebooting. The most it has ever gone without a reboot is 3 days and lately thats a stretch. I am running phantom hackers blazer rom. Is this just something that you go through when rooted? I love this phone but i hate goin to use it and see that its off. Sometimes i consider getting rid of this thing and goin with an iphone because of how stable they are. My bro has an iphone and it is pure rock solid!

I can go Weeks without a reboot. Running try the ROM in my sig. Make sure you do a clean install, using the flash all script. Don't use TB until you are stable. After that you will be golden.

So you think its the rom and not my phone? I will say it never rebooted before i rooted it. I do LOVE this phone and would hate to get rid of it i just get soo mad when it reboots. Not something you should expect from a 500+ dollar device..
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
Yes, I think it is software related. Only time I ever get a random reboot is from something software related being off. Could be ROM, kernel, theme, just about any thing. That's why you want to start fresh. Caulks ROM is dead solid stable.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
rbtrucking -- are you undervolted? The only time I've had any stability/reboot problems with this phone were when I was a little too aggressive with the undervolt (or overclocked to 1.7ghz ). I'm on calk's 2.8.1 with steadyhawkin's gunslinger kernel btw.
Phones the most reliable I've ever had now that the los is gone. I undervolt mine considerably. I have 3 other friends with thus phone 2 of them not rooted. The stocks have more issues then rooted ones I swear with reboot hot reboots freezing..getting sticky on transitions . Each phone just handles each Rom a lily different....YMMV

Nope I am not undervolting or overclocking at all. I leave the cpu settings alone as I find the phone to be plenty fast and overclocking can drastically decrease the life of a cpu especially without proper cooling. I have heard nothing but amazing things about calkulins roms though maybe I will give it a try. Anyone else having any issues like mine on Phantom Hackers Blazer rom?

Ya I actually already had an sd card go bad on me and had to remove it because my phone would literally reboot every 10 minutes and sometimes I would have to pull the battery out for a little while to get it to go back on. The sd card was really really old though, came with my original evo. Since removing the sd card the reboots are allot less frequent but they still do occur but usually no more than once a day sometimes every couple days.
In 3 months I had one reboot...

Well all I can say is I flashed calkulins rom with the pure honey theme and this **** is HOT!! I really never knew using titanium backup that you dont lose ANYTHING! For some reason I always thought it just backs up apps! Had I known this I would have been flashing new roms allot more frequently though I love this one soo much I will definitely be sticking with it for some time. Lets just hope it runs stable on my phone! So far no complaints but it has only been about 10 minutes! Thank you for recommending this rom!

Since day one my phone reboots on average 2 times a day and overheats and/or shuts off at least once a wk. For me, it's not software related as I have tried every rom.
Today it just started a new thing where it will boot up (go through the animation) and then the screen will go dark to where I can't do anything. Right before it goes dark, the animation will freeze. I am able to get into the recovery though, and have wiped the cache and dalvik.

Yes this person is right I had a fault sd card in my phone and it caused behavior very much like you are describing. Reboots at least once a day sometimes about 10 times a day and all kinds of bad behaviors!
I have had a GSM Galaxy Nexus for quite a while. I've had Stock ICS on it, as well as many different non-stock ICS and JB ROMs running on it.
I've noticed that, from time to time, the screen will become considerably less responsive than it usually is. I usually notice when trying to swipe down the Notification Window. I will have to swipe several times to get it to actually work, when it usually works every time, easily. If I swipe slower and apply more pressure, it works. Also, typing on the on-screen keyboard when this issue is occurring is a disaster. The system misses about a third of my touches, and mistypes every word practically.
If I reboot or wait a while, it goes away. I've been trying to shut down various often-used apps while it's occuring to see if I can remedy the issue, but so far I haven't found an app that might be causing the problem.
Anyone else have this issue? It's so noticeable for me that I can try to do the usual motion I do to bring down the Notification Window over 10 times before it will actually respond.
It's either something basic with Android, or my hardware has a little bug. Not sure which.
I see a few posts on the forums of other phones about this, but not on here with the Galaxy Nexus.
I'm having the exact same issues. Its also very noticeable in the keyboard as well. Sometimes in the app drawer. Its extremely obnoxious and only seems to do it on jelly bean Roms... may I ask what kernel you're running? I'm on Franco 223 384mhz gpu
hey man, i've noticed this same thing on mine running Jb (joel's bamf jelly)...i notice it when typing, though. a lot of times i just completely MISS keystrokes, and my words come out all ****ed up. i honestly was starting to think i'm crazy, but i'm glad to see others with JB are having this issue! again, if i reboot as well, it goes away. wtf?
i'm running whatever kernel joel has stock in hsi rom, which i beleive is just the stock JB kernel.
Exactly same issue here, but simply turning screen off and back on solves it. No need to reboot.

Running one of the early loads of 4.1.1 that required you to load 4.1, then overlay 4.1.1 over it to get get camera working properly. But it's stock minus being rooted/busybox loaded on it. Running the stock kernel with the JB baseband that released, btw.
Before that I was running AOKP and CM9, both of which did the same thing to me - which is what made me think it was an app that was interfering, but I haven't been able to prove that.
Search my thread called touch sensitivity, I wrote all about this. Its an annoying bug that has no fix. Lock then unlock the screen resets it and makes it return to normal. But it eventually happens again.
I also had this issue, and as someone said earlier, just switching the screen off and then back on fixes it for a while. But I recently updated my baseband to XXLF1 (yes, I'm from Europe) and switched to AndroidME CM10 Rom and the issue is gone (had been using the one from team inferno before). Don't know if it was the Rom or the radio...

Yes, that's a good point to start.
I originally thought this issue was due to a kernel malfunction, but looking at the replies here, apparently not. I don't remember it happening on ICS at all, but with jelly bean and project butter being so smooth and all, I have recently become much more attentive to the responsiveness of my screen so it's much more noticeable. I guess the best thing to do is try different Roms and see if the problem persists.
---------- Post added at 07:41 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:42 PM ----------
Well, as stated above, CM10 seems to eliminate this problem completely. I just flashed a CM10 ROM and man is there a difference. It is extremely smooth and battery life seems significantly better than others ROMs on jelly bean right now. I highly suggest giving it a go. I upgraded my cwm recovery to 6.0.Something too. Dunno if that's relevant, but just thought I'd say.
Are you using the euroskank one? If yes then thats what im using too and still have this problem tho not worse than others, my keyboard works properly.just that my scrolling and swiping tightens up a bit which forces you to swipe longer and more pressure than normal

I had this issue on 4.0.4 with the Linaro franco kernel and am now having it with JB and the Linaro franco kernel. I too thought it was just maybe my imagination!
Well all things were fine on 4.2.1 and then this update comes,
This is what i noticed so far,
1.Phone is EXTREMELY laggy when downloading from play store
2.Browser quick controls are bugged
3.Lots of launcher crashes
4.Alarm icon in the notification disappears while it's still active
5.Random lag spikes while navigating in de drawer or homescreen,
As far as i go, this is the laggiest jelly bean version, maybe google just got lazy, or they're working on another version of Android (fingers crossed)

1. Use a custom kernel and tweak the read ahead buffer size. With sio io scheduler and 256k buffer size i made the lag minimal for me.
3+5 : use nova launcher and it will be fine
4: it works fine here, make sure you do clean installs.
As a last advice I must say to flash the factory image via fastboot. It is absolutely fine with no issues. I installed it on 2 gnex' already and no problems with lag.

Stock android is far away from perfect now. JDQ39 is nowhere near rock stable JZO54K. My friend. Scrolling lag is not the matter of clean installation. I've tested five 4.2.2 based roms, including stock all of them lags as hell after a while - it can be one or two days or couple of hours. Actually it's been the most evident of stock and it concerns scrolling between homescreens, lockscreens, recents. A lot of people have experienced it and it's been already reported to google issue tracker. I've already tested stock, cm10.1 m2, PA 3.1 0309, XenonHD 6.0 - all of them lags after a while. At the moment I am testing Purity and I haven's seen lag for two days.
Te easiest way to reproduce the bug. Please do not reboot your devices, and do not change wallpapers for about two days.
Same here, on CM10.1 Play Store is now smooth but was bad on XenonHD.

The speed also depends what kernel you are using and how much free Memory you have on your nexus..

Yesterday I got few apps after using apple's BT mouse and when I set up multi users.. But all the lags went away when I rebooted.

How do I do this?
Not sure if this has been discussed or not I searched and found many bugs but none that meet this specific issue.. I noticed that since I updated to the 4.2.2 leak on my Toro Nexus there have been a few issues:
Audio from the pogo pin dock stopped working.
Car mode goes off and on randomly as well as the charging bolt when the phone should be charging.
Phone goes into daydream mode even when not being charged..
Turning on bluetooth randomly reboots the phone on occasion and other random bugs.
I think I'm going to flash back to the previous OTA. I'm stock unlocked, unrooted, just the way I like my Nexus (for now). In no way is this a complaint, more my observations and a last shot in the dark to see if anyone has overcome these issues in the latest leaked "OTA."
On a side note, other than the dock and power issues, everything has been smooth. No lag etc...

Ok so I realize I don't know how to do this without resetting all data. From what I've read, the only way back includes wiping all data. Am I wrong? Is there a way for me to go back without wiping? I'm not super versed in all things Android but I think I recall flashing back to a previous OTA in the past to get another OTA to work without wiping. I can't find that thread anywhere so I'm probably mistaken. Any help?
Edit: I re-read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895 and determined that it can be done without wiping for folks that aren't noobs. I consider myself a noob at this point so I'm stuck with this 4.2.2 update until I find an easier way.

It's the same as flashing a rom! Use Titanium backup to backup the apps, and custom recovery to wipe data/factory reset, cache and dalvik cache. Format /system, /data, /cache , and downgrade with the toolkit w/o format when it ask. So for less than an hour you will downgrade, and keep music, videos and photos. So the only thing you lose is programs, but you can restore them whit titanium, and that is!

Lags what I am talking about is low fps scrolling that appears after some time of normal usage. I've never experienced it on 4.1.2 or 4.2.1. It has nothing to do with the kernel. (BTW aren't we talkin about the stock one?) Problem is still present on custom kernels and even OCed CPU. It looks rather like some sort of memory leak. Reboot or changing wallpaper is a workaround solution for this issue. So yeah if you reboot your device quite often you most probably won't see this bug.
If you want to read more about this issue visit this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2178962
Except this bug I really like the 4.2.2 rom, these new features. I consider it as an improvement from 4.2.1.
I agree, 4.1.2 was polished more. 4.2.2 is better then the initial 4.2 release, but still has a way to go. We'll see what IO brings soon.

Ok.. Hmmm.....
Are you using custom kernel?
And which apps are running in background? E.g. Currents, Google+. FB...
And if you use custom kernel then make sure you use CPU governor that doesn't make Android slower or laggier..
I have actually never had any lags on my Nexus, I use 100% stock kernel, sometimes CM's kernel. I have free memory 2,10 GB of 13 GB (16GB GNex)..
Also I recommend to use some cleaner apps to delete unnecessary files..
For cleaning a bit my Nexus I use "Mobile Care" on Windows it is "ASC"
Which deletes e.g. Cache and junk files..

I try to never dirty flash and usually just restore apps from TitaniumBackup. All three times were full wipes formatting any partition I could other than extSdcard. No old kernel settings were restored and I'm not over or undeclocked but I did under volt by 50 and the phone seems stable but no improvement.
As a matter of fact during the latter of the installs I restored nothing. I've also disconnected my sdCard in hopes that it was a bad card (some hopes) but to no avail.
I am redownloading the rooms even do the md5 sum was the exact and downloading the gapp from a different source.

Try running LiquidSmooth's stock kernel. I'm getting pretty good battery life with that. KT747 may not agree with your phone combined with this rom. I had good results when I ran KT with a TW rom, but not so much with AOSP. Every phone can behave differently.
Good luck.

I ran my phone with the kernel that LiquidSmooth has as stock, and it was extremely buggy for me, maybe it just did not behave well with my phone but it looks like the kernel has a few known issues as is. One bug I had is that audio playback was extremely erratic, and I haven't come across a commenter stating anything similar. I'd really hate migrating from LiquidSmooth, especially with the notion that I just "gave up", and not on just any release but on a stable release.

Update:
On this new install from a new download and gapps from a different source, I do not seem to be having the audio issue, which seems strange as both prior downloads had an exact md5 sum.
*Currently hopeful with fingers crossed*
I'm really enjoying LiquidSmooth, too, so I know what you mean. I hope it works for you this time.

Hello guys,
First i want to apologize for my bad english. I hope you can understand some of my words
My problem : i really like my note 2 and i had a s3 before, but sometimes my phone ist really laggy.
I tried everything and it is still not smooth. The animation when i open an app or closing by pressing the homebutton is not always, but often laggy.
This is really annoying , because i tested the note 2 in the shop and it feels really smooth.
First my phone runs smooth at all, but after a month it starts to lag. After a fullwipe and custom rom and kernel the problem is still there. I tried over 40 roms and with every Kernel. Can you help me to solve my problem and make my phone smooth as the nexus 4 or galaxy nexus?
Best regards from germany

Hi,
I must say that if you've tried multiple roms and kernels, and wiping it every time, then it must be a hardware fault. I have only flashed my device once, it's stock, and it's very smooth almost every since moment of every single day. This device is VERY powerful. It shouldn't lag, especially not after a recent format. Is it possible you've killed something in it by accident? Dropped it? Kicked it? Liquid in it? Something short-circuiting?
It just seems strange that a newly formatted device would lag. Have you tried stock?

Hi, this is a warning. My Note 2 started to become laggy just before it suddenly died from Sudden Death Syndrome (SDS)
A Note 2 is one of the most powerful devices on the market and it SHOULD NOT LAG UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES and mine never did, until the week it died.

Everything is working well and i never dropped my phone. I don't think, that this is a hardware fault because i had these lags with my S3 too. And most of my friends have a s3 too and i can see these laggs too. I am searching for a mod or app, which makes my Phone smoother. I've tried seeder, no different.
But thank you for your answer!
I have checked my chip with the app emmc brick bug check and it says that i got the sane chip with no sudden death. I should be safe.
Try rubbing some butter on your phone, that should make it smooth!
Or you could go Aosp.

I have both an S3 in my house and a Note 2 (my personal device), what are you doing and I can tell you if I'm getting any lag doing something. Because the S3 doesn't lag too much. Its only fault in my opinion is the lack for the extra gig of ram, but to do every day activities + gaming, it's a great device. The Note 2 hasn't lagged on me yet :s. I mean, come on! 4 cores and 2 gb of ram.
So, let us know what you're doing and how to reproduce the lag and I'd be more than happy to check it out with you. But I seriously think there is something wrong with your device if it lags on EVERY rom and EVERY kernel. That shouldn't happen.
Gaming, scrolle through the homescreens are very smooth. But when i open an app and press the homebutton, then the animation is very laggy. Most of the time my note is smooth , but only the animation while opening and closing apps is very laggy.
Yes i tried aosp and it is perfectly smooth, but the Touchwiz features and the s pen are the main reason, why i bought this phone. So i want to keep my Touchwiz Features but make my system more smooth.
Hello
I would recommend you to try this, I've been using this setup for a while now and it's the smoothest experience I've had with the phone yet, install stock ROM through ODIN, with the galaxy note 2 toolkit from this forum do the root plus custom recovery plus busy box plus rename option, freeze whatever Samsung apps you don't use, i will try to attach a screen shot to show you which ones I froze, install a custom kernel like perseus, red pill, or others, I prefer these two, and in the GPU tab change the minimum frequency to 260mhz, the maximum to 640, check set on boot, install greenify from the play store and check all the apps that you don't want running all the time and the reboot and check the performance after a couple days of use, please report back if i helped in any way.
Just one more screen shot
Idk if this will help but try it
Took me 15 min yo find the post
The problem was flashed s3 ROM then went back to note 2 ROM and phone became so laggy..
The solution was:
Flash this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2003240
via odin (pda) aswell as the .pit file.
for some reason this was the only rom that cleared up all my issues.
I take no credit for this as this was another users find..
Hope it helps .. Give it a shot

Yes, I've read of people with an s3 flashing note 2 firmwares and people with a note 2 flashing s3 firmwares too, the main problem was lag and the only solution was to flash a full firmware that corresponded to the device, interesting, did any of us help you at all?
Thanks a lot guys!
I tried to freeze all the apps i don't need, with the result, that it laggs less now. Thanks
But ut it is still lagging sometimes. It is possible to make it smooth like the nexus4 without flashing a aosp rom?

As I said in my previous post.. There might be some system errors going on.. Flashing with odin the firmware from my previous post here hopefully can fix most of errors..
I had horrible lag and system not saving after restart.. Now it's all ok and everything is on

I installed the Sentinel rom for the note 2 which has been super smooth. Compiled with the Linaro compiler and it runs quicker than I've ever seen an android phone run. Only issue (as with all cm10 roms) is the lack of spen functionality but I think it's worth the sacrifice.

Ok. I flashed my Phone with odin and have done a fullwipw in the stock recovery. All ist fine and smooth, but the Animation is still a bit laggy. After flashing my custom rom, the phone ist still the same like before flashing and with stock rom.
Does anyone knows about a mod or something like that which boost my Phone?

OK try this ..
Flash a custom kernel.. Perseus is the best.
Force System to render on GPU .. Comes with ROMs like phoenix and ARHD..
Overclock GPU (to around 733 MHz) and CPU (make sure you lower the voltage for 1700 and 1800 MHz)
This should make your phone smooth since it put less power on CPU and put it on GPU which you don't use it a lot.. And GPU makes graphics run better..

Ok. I flashed ARHD and then Redpill Kernel. Set the max. GPU frequenz to 733mhz and then reboot. After reboot it feels the same . It has the same laggs while starting or closing apps. It is not always, but often.
I think it is Touchwiz that slows my quadcore beast down. But i don't want aosp because i use my s pen a lot and the other features too. Is there a way to keep my touchwiz features and a smooth rom?
Flashing another devices rom has its consequences. Worst case is wipe and start over. Have you tried Tweakbox?
