Hi all,
So I got the txt message from AT&T about upgrade available.
So I opened Keis and let it update. (I have a whole seperate issue with Kies; it will only read my Glide about 10% of the time).
Once I FINALLY got it to connect to my phone, I began the update process. FAIL
fail, fail, fail, 4 hours of fail.
i've tried every recommendation from every post i';ve come across, including uninstalling keis, running reg cleaner, rebooting, reinstalling.
i've trie 3 diff version of the samsung usb driver program, whatever u search for on this forum and google, i've tried it.
The best I have gotten is for Kies to actually recognize my phone and begin the update process, a few times, I saw no progress bar on the phone and the Kies window stayed on 0%.
The first time I actually sw a progress bar on my phone, it moved about 1/8th of an inch and stopped. I left if overnight, and when I got up this morning, it was the same.
So again today, on a different computer, I created a new user profile and tried some more; nada.
So I'm so desperate for ICS on this phone, I tried using that one click release of the leaked ICS, same thing. several times of not recognizing the phone, then finally
the progress bar on the phone moved a little bit, so I left it for over an hour and it didn't move.
At least this time, I could see that it was hung on the bootloader part.
I've tried this on two diff Win7 x64 machines and an XP pro machine; all the same results.
interesting part:
Once last night, I kept my temp folder open while Kies was doing it's thing, and I grabbed this file:
https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B_Sgf7j8WktibEJ4NXVva08zYmM
(i couldn't find any free file share sites that would let me upload a file this big.)
This is the actual ROM (or whatever you would call it)
Kies downloaded a file and named it whatever.tmp, as soon as I saw it, I copied it and extracted the contents with uniextract - that is where I got this .tar file from.
So what can I do with this file to install ICS on my phone?
I did try renaming it update.zip and copying it to my sdcard, I tried to "install update from sdcard", but I get an error about it not being signed.
For anyone who doesn't want to download a 600+MB file, this is what's inside it:
boot.img
cache.img
factoryfs.img
hidden.img
modem.bin
recovery.img
Not too sure if this belongs in development. It's a question, but the file is development purposes . Anyway you can use boot.img and a system dump of the official ICS to make a flashable zip, or theme some system apps, etc. The possibilites are endless

You should be able to flash that with ODIN
Fact, this is the same file I downloaded from http://www.hotfile.com/dl/170800037/7fd1f5e/I927UCLH2_I927ATTLH2_ATT.zip.html
Worked flashing with ODIN on a unlocked Rogers I927R

Power Phone into DOWNLOAD MODE, Pressing POWER and VOLUME UP till it boots
Using ODIN 1.85
wait for phone to appear
Uncheck F. Reset Time (only AUTO REBOOT should be checked)
Check the box next to PDA
using the PDA button select the .tar file
Press start, sit back and drink a beer
Then apply CWM I prefer 5.0.27 "EXACTLY THE SAME WAY AS YOU INSTALLED THE ROM WITH ODIN" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1458153 (it's not touch, but it keeps backups in img form rather than the .blob like CWM6. just make's it easier to handle backups.
In CWM "If you want root", apply http://downloads.noshufou.netdna-cdn.com/superuser/Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed.zip
In CWM apply the LH2 Keyboard backlight fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1848433
Its running pretty smooth so far, no major issues to report: but I had the camera giving me issues till I cleared data form the app. still gave a few stutters then the whole phone started running well after a few reboots and some settling time.

Thanks for you replies. I appreciate it very much.
(here's something weird, when viewing post in thread, it stops after the word beer. I didn't see the other stuff until I clicked reply :-/ )
unfortunately, it's doing the same thing as before... ODIN is stuck on boot.img for about ten minutes now
any thoughts.... anyone?
I want ICS on this phone SO bad.
( would it be related to the fact that I substituted beer for southern comfort? )
A few posts up I posted a link to a download of the new update that is what I used It worked perfectly. Extract from the zip and you'll have a .tar.md5 file which just makes ODIN Check the md5 sum before flashing

I checked your files md5 sum to the .tar file I used, and they are the same cbd0c11c1aa578f6bcdb06099b5d3102 so you should be good to go flashing the .tar file you captured during the keis install. Maybe try flashing CWM first boot into it and format everything then try installing the rom via ODIN. Try a new cable and/or make sure the phone is plugged into a usb plug in the rear of the computer.

that makes me a sad panda....
i guess next, i'll try to do this on ubuntu, using heimdall....

That is a real bummer, I'm sorry it didn't work for you. It should only take a few minutes, I don't have any other ideas other than maybe try flashing the UCLG9 leak then re-trying to flash your tar file. The leak contains a new bootloader, I had flashed that a few weeks prior to the new update.
Also did you try flashing CWM with Odin just to see if it would flash seems like it's probably a computer problem rather then your phone.

Hello,
Sorry to 'thread-jack' but hopefully a minor annoyance.
Can someone post just the 'modem.bin' file from the I927UCLH2 update?
FYI, in hopes of enabling 3G/HSPA voice calling on Galaxy Tab 10.1..
Using European Tegra 2 based phone modem (from I9103), 2G voice calling works.
Trying to avoid downloading the entire .tar for one file =p
To clarify - European Tab 10.1 users are fine; AT&T and Rogers Tab 10.1 users can currently use 2G only.
T-Mobile - apparently 'their' phone counterpart uses a combo of 2 modem-related files?
But I digress... (don't think I can embed links yet) thread is in Tab 10.1 Dev forum.
Thank you!

i did try flashing the CWM and it did the same thing stalling after about one second into it, same with UCLG9 leak one-click executable. (at least using that told me it was stuck on trying to flash the boot image)
I'm about to build a fresh win7 x86 VM with nothing but .net and VC++ runtime installed, to rule out both my living room and home office comps as the problem.
if it still don't work, the i'll build a fresh ubuntu VM and try it with heindall
Thank you, enewman17, for all your help. it is really appreciated. :good:
if it still don't work, i will call Samsung and demand a replacement phone.

I used rom from 1st post and it's working flawless but is there any way to "super-duper" wipe this phone? after update I still have all my data, programs and even unlocked simlock. I will probably send it on warranty so I would like to have stock rom
edit: i think ICS is much slower than GB

Settings --> Back up and reset ---> Factory data Reset.....As it states this erases all data on the phone.
I'm getting it to boot up after cwmr but it hangs on the installing applications screen. Left it for an hour and still the same
are you kidding me?!?!
ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?!?!?!?!
ok, so here's what finally worked:
using a different USB cable that i found laying around.
for all of samsung's rhetoric about "only use the oem data cable" "never use anything but the oem data cable" "blah blah oem usb cable blah blah"
after trying this on like 6 different computers all with same results, i just found a usb cable laying around at work and decided to try it, just for the heck of it - IT DIDNT TAKE 5 MINUTES TO FLASH!
I AM NOW ICE CREAM SANDWICH!
seriously, FOUR days of banging my head on the wall, and it was the freaking OEM data cable that was the problem.

Same flash problem here, same exact solution. Flimsy micro-USB cable was the culprit. ODIN would get partially through and almost always fail during SetupConnection or Initialzation or NAND Write Start. Wasted about 12 hours testing a dozen possible causes. Changed to the thicker OEM cord and BAM!
Thanks!!
Funnny what a cable could do lol
Hi guys. Im a noob, first post here and need some help. Be searching all day for how to load a stock rom to my device GT-N5110.
Heres the low down.
Purchased in Australia. No updates applied.
Success rooted with framaroot. Was running framaroot for more than a month
Install busy box today in normal mode I think. I chose the safe option.
Edited build.prop product model so I could install Navigon
Navigon working fine
Now..........
Unable to change the product name back using es explorer or file expert.
Thought it would change after restart but device entered bootloop. I think busybox was the culprit.
Discovered recovery mode and did factory data reset. Can acces odin screen on device too.
Device boots but hangs on language selection screen
I have found and downloaded stock rom for it that I found here somehow
I tried "Mrjraider" tutorial "how to flash back to a stock rom"
but odin crashes whenever I load the rom file and it wont recognize my GN8.0
Computer runs on windows 8. Kies is up to date too. Kies reconizes device but is unable to update or anything
Was running odin in win xp sp3 with administrator
can try on a win7 computer tomorrow.
This is the name of the file its about 1.2 Gb....... N5110UEDMD1_N5110XARDMD1_HOME.tar.md5 do I need to rename this or something
There was also a .dll that was in the package, wtf with that?????
be looking through this forum all day and night and cant quite find what im looking for. If what I seek is here please point me to it. Or if any one here in Brisbane, can fix it for me,What are your thoghts? PM me.
Just want my baby back working again.
Sorry, wrong section please delete mod
If I'm not mistaken, remove Kies, then try using Odin. Also, dll is a Windows file. I could be wrong about Kies, but I think I remember reading that it conflicts with Odin.

Yesterday I installed same firmware in my computer runing win7 with Odin and Kies installed at the same time without problems. You don't need to rename the file, dll is a library for windows and needs to be on the same folder as the md5 file. Just remember to put the Note in download mode in order to get the firmware installed by Odin.
I have a thread in the development forum with the only file you need just flash in odin and done.
Sent from my GT-N5110 using Tapatalk 2
Tutorial is ok, problem seems to be elsewhere.
I have Windows 8 (x64) too, and Odin works i my case, i successfully flashed (and restored counter) N5110 before returning tablet to shop (it was exchange for N5100). Kill all Kies components via task manager, i have two more things in processes when i quit Kies. Next, try another version of Odin, but I remember one ROM from SamMobile, which crashed every Odin i had, so its may be this problem. Try another version of ROM - older, if exists. If crashes Odin too or not exists, try uninstall both Kies and Samsung USB driver, dowload toolkit from xda (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2251033) and install new driver via toolkit.
In rare cases may be problem in your computer, so try another one without installing Kies. I wish you luck.
Edit - That big file is ROM, dll is not needed for Odin. Run Odin, press PDA, select your rom. Turn tablet off, connect to comupter by original or hi-quality short cable, set tablet into download mode (hold vol- and home, press power on for 2 secs, select continue by pressing vol+). If all is ok, first field in Odin change color to yellow (i think), then press "Start".
Thanks to all. Let you know how I go. Odin 4.43 keeps crashing when loading the rom, on both my win8 laptop and fresh installed win 7 pc. Uninstalled everything from laptop except nero. Nothing installed on pc except modem drivers and Samsung drivers. I will redownload the rom. I think it may have become corrupt. Cheers
ok success. this is what I did. eventually got the rom to sit in odin without crashing it by simply renaming file by deleting the .tar.md5 extention. clicked off the file to save the rename. Right click on it again to rename and type the extension back in. Loaded it in odin and it worked. File name in odin showed up with duplicate file extention eg .tar.md5.tar.md5 but it worked. Odin 4.43 would not detect my device. Senior Moderator Mskip toolkit for Samsung galaxy note 8 would not detect my device .This was very frustrating
Used odin 3.07
loaded rom in pda. Found in janjannsen99 development thread.
connected device ,odin 3.07 detected it, unlike 4.43 for some reason.
clicked start.
Walla. Im a happy man.
This is the kind of story that are the most scary. Now I am kind afraid of root my note 8 or do anything unofficial.
Anyway, best wishes to you.

Secondly guys when you download that file in my thread tO your computer it has to be extracted first you only Click PDA In ODIN and use the file you just extracted with the tar md5 extension. Thats it. That ss.dll file has no purpose its just there and you need not even bother with it.

people keep posting to go to sammobile but every time i look there isn't a rom labeled for the US, and they dont give an explanation of what rom would be the equivilant or even if any of them would be. Should I use UK version? is it the same as the US?
I'm having the same exact issue as OP and I can get into download mode and i have odin 3.07 but i am just looking for the exact rom to load and cant find an exact answer so far. I've already messed up my tablet enough today so I don't want to flash the wrong rom and make things worse lol.

ok I did some more reading around the web and found that a lot of people used the UK version as I kinda suspected. Would have been nice to get confirmation on that but its cool, I flashed it, no problem, and now I'm setting up the chainfire root and getting back all my apps. So all in all it took a few days but I'm back on my feet *sigh of relief*

The instructions on are for Windows with twrp etc, .exe files... I've rooted Samsung Phones on my Mac, but this tablet seems different from what I'm reading and don't want to screw it up lol. I read a few different things on twrp on Macs and a lot of issues people ran into, unless they did something wrong?? Basically I just want to know how to root and use twrp on Mac with this tablet so I can use other roms I've used on my phones (currently Sho3).
Thanks in advance for any help
115 views and nobody?? lol ... searching online it seems there are multiple ways (unless people wrote instructions differently) for similar on a Mac. I just want to make sure I don't screw this tablet up, I've done my Samsung phones on my Mac.
How were you doing them on a Mac? What was the process, I mean.. I would imagine that you could use Heimdall and load the TWRP image with it, in order to get the custom recovery, then root/install SU after that on the device.
I'm not sure if Heimdall is actually going to work with the gt3, but it's worth a shot.. It's the only cross-platform image writer, for Samsung devices, that I know of. I could be wrong, however.
Edit: here's the link for it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755265

Sorry forgot about this, yeh used Heimdall. I may try later on.
1. Install most recent Heimdall from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755265
2. Open Heimdall frontend from applications folder of your Mac.
3. Put device into download mode with power+vol down+home. Will sometimes require multiple attempts. When successful you will see warning about adding custom software to your device.
4. Click utilities tab of Heimdall and detect device.
5. Download pit file to your Mac with the save as dialouge.
6. Click on flash tab of Heimdall.
7. Select pit file you just created
8. Hit add partition select RECOVERY and then select the custom recovery you have already dowloaded from the other threads. Extract to .img before selecting the recovery though. Make sure repartition is NOT selected
9. I unchecked no reboot and resume. (Near bottom right by the start button)
10. Hit start.
11. Verify by restarting with power+vol up
Check my other post at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47060381#post47060381 for screenshots describing these steps. And possibly some answers to questions already asked in that thread.
Just did this to mine and it worked fine is OSX 10.9 & Heimdall 1.4.0 and the TWRP_T31x_r3.tar recovery. I should note that this is the SM-T310 8" Tab

Awesome it worked. Didn't get a chance to do so yet, was honestly a little nervous even though I've used Heimdall on Mac for phones. There's like no support or anything for this tablet, not sure why, it's selling like crazy, BB can barely keep them in stock and it's been out for months. Yet other newer tablets have huge support already and roms etc.
Love it, but kinda wish I got something else now, only thing you can do is root this thing.

With Cyanogen not building stable releases for Exynos 4 devices I don't think we will see a ton of action on the AOSP front for this device. With that being said Xposed works on this tablet and provides some of what I'm looking for in custom roms. I use Wanam and Gravity Box modules and I am happy now with stock rooted and using Xposed.

yeh I wish we had roms like my i777, I've stuck with Shostock on it, and the phone is so smooth and fast and stable.

I just realized I still have Heimdall 1.3.1 still on my Mac, as I'm still on 10.5.8 , I don't think the newer versions of Heimdall work unless on the current OS/X as one says there are issues with 10.6 etc. Wonder if I can still use 1.3.1?

Reading the change logs from 1.3.1>1.3.2>1.4.0 compatibility with some devices was enhanced/added. It does not mention ours specifically. I personally wouldn't try it on 1.3.1 but it is your tablet. Why are you stuck on Leopard? PPC?

I just never updated it after they cut support for 10.5.8 to keep buying OS after that lol, I've had other MBP and just sold my Retina, too many glitches and odd stuff with the recent OSs, and waiting to see the new model that should have some nice fixes both hardware wise and software. Plus I use Win7 in a virtual system and it's so stable, Virtuals have run into so many issues on the newer OSs from peoples reports and my experience. Only thing is I know people say you can use that to root these easier, I've never gotten any phone to show up to work with in Win in a Virtual System, plug usb in and nothing happens (still goes to OS/X). I only kept this 13" Pro as it's reliable and stable lol, even spilled a big ass jug of water on it once when the dogs when crazy chasing each other and one got caught on my cord and knocked the water over onto the keyboard. I flipped it over and turned it off and stuck it in rice, somehow works fine.... my good luck charm hahaha
Wonder if the new Heimdall (1.4) will work on os/x 10.5.8? I'll msg the dev

So I totally forgot about this thread as there was no rom development anyway. Now there are some nice roms for this tablet so want to root and flash. Except can't figure this out, I tried different Heimdalls and they all do the same thing, they say "heimdall crashed" when opened up, but the program is there. When you click on detect devices it says "FRONTEND ERROR Heimdall Crashed".
I messaged the Dev but never heard back. On os/x 10.5.8 and tab is T310 wifi. Some say this Heimdall works for these devices but not on osx version whatever, then vice versa..... ughh confusing lol. No clue what heimdall works with this combo or if there's another way on a Mac. I have Win7 in a virtual machine, but Android never mounts in a VM or at least I've never gotten an Android to do so all these years.
I got this error when I try to download the .pit file:
Initialising connection...
Detecting device...
Claiming interface...
ERROR: Claiming interface failed!

Any ideas?
The device I try to root it's a Tab3 7.0 SM-T211 with Android 4.1.2
This method doesn't work for me either.
I'm on Ubuntu 14.04 and using Heimdall 1.4.0.2
I've tried uploading TWRP 2.6.3, 2.7.0 and 2.7.1
I've tried using ADB too, but to no avail. It seems that the only mode I can get ADB to work is sideload, but when I sideload images it says signature failed. I'm starting to hate this phone.
EDIT: Somehow, after 12 attempts, it worked!!! (with TWRP 2.7.1 flashable recovery)
Hey there
Backstory: Ive had my Sprint SGS3 for awhile and rooted it after I came across a root required application that promised faster youtube loading times called hola one day after using this app for awhile my SGS3 froze mid-video. I waited about 4 mins then pulled the battery out and my SGS3 hasn't been working since. That was about 5 months ago and I haven't used a phone since.
Current state: Now my SGS3 wont boot or go into to recovery mode so CWM or TWRP will not work in this case. The only thing my phone CAN do is go into download mode.
Now the catch to this story is I live in an all Mac hardware family, and setting up bootcamp is currently out of the question so my only other option currently is Heimdall. Now ive used Odin once to achieve root but other than that im not very familiar with either programs.
PLZ HALP: So now my question is if anyone can help me install a new rom step by step (point me in the right direction for the files and how to apply them via Heimdall) I was aiming to install Cyanogenmod 10.1 but quickly got confused, but I will settle with a stock 4.2 rooted rom.
I have limited knowledge of this and am at my wits end so I come here begging on my knees if anyone can help me

Well thank you for taking time to post those links but that's not covering the issue I'm having trouble with.
I've seen a few videos on how to use heimdall now but my issue remains the flashing. I downloaded a stock rom with root but I don't understand how to flash it. There is no .img file which heimdall requires.
Every other method I've seen requires custom recovery
Also sorry for the long response time. I've been having a very very bad week and its only getting worse

http://download2.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.4.3-d2spr.img
download that and rename to recovery.img to make it easier. Flash it using heimdall and boot to it. I recommend you put your rom of choice on the external so and flash from that

You could try http://www.rwilco12.com just make sure you download a tar or tar.gz file so you can extract the images from it. Only problem is that heimdall may be a no-go. I thought I heard something a while back about heimdall not working with the s3 after a certain firmware. You can save yourself so much headache and save a ton of time if you could just use Odin. You don't have any friends with a windows pc you could use?

Phone Stats
Sprint Galaxy S3 (SPH-L710)
Cyanogenmod 10.2 (Stable)
Last ROM update flash was months ago, no issues
TWRP latest
Can not get into recovery
Can get into download mode (using HOME+VOL-DOWN+POWER)
Using Odin 3 (1.85)
Phone was sitting on table, just started boot looping.
Tried to flash (everything) - stock Sprint image, CM ROM, etc.
Odin fails when it gets to reading the PIT information.
I looked everywhere for a Sprint GS3 PIT file, only found one, but it was labeled "i710" (probably by accident) and did not work.
If anyone has or can dump an image of their partition information (PIT) I would be extremely grateful, and willing to compensate you, because I'm an Android developer and kinda need my phone =)
More information:
Yes drivers are all installed and working. Phone is recognized as usual on three different laptops.
Yes phone was charged at least over 80% when trying anything.
Yes, tried multiple cables and USB ports (esp. powered ones) - phone connects fine.
Brought it to Sprint - they actually tried to flash it for me (nice guys!) but the software denied b/c of the custom binary.
Yes, I read every post here/elsewhere containing the keywords "PIT", "S3", and "brick" - many solutions would work, except for the fact that Odin won't get past reading the PIT.
No, I didn't do anything dumb like flashing GSM, international, custom crap, or by checking "repartition" or anything like that.
Not using any custom kernel or anything else - only the recovery (TWRP) and ROM (CM10) are custom.
Even more information (yes, I'm desperate!):
I tried all methods I could find - literally days worth of searching - including reinstalling the drivers, installing drivers while in download mode, connecting from Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Linux (Ubuntu - Mint).
Tried flashing stock recovery.
Tried flashing stock Sprint/Samsung image.
Tried flashing various PIT files claiming to be Sprint SGS3.
I basically gave in and was going to buy a new phone, but the dude at Sprint even said "this is fixable - you just need that PIT file", so I'd like to give it one last try before calling it. The phone really has been good to me, otherwise.
Any help is greatly appreciated! If you read all of this, you're a saint =)

Thanks. That's real helpful. It's not my thread, it's a related one I found after I posted, and this info is still relevant.
