[Q] galaxy note 8 factory restore

Hi guys. Im a noob, first post here and need some help. Be searching all day for how to load a stock rom to my device GT-N5110.
Heres the low down.
Purchased in Australia. No updates applied.
Success rooted with framaroot.Was running framaroot for more than a month
Install busy box today in normal mode I think. I chose the safe option.
Edited build.prop product model so I could install Navigon
Navigon working fine
Now..........
Unable to change the product name back using es explorer or file expert.
Thought it would change after restart but device entered bootloop. I think busybox was the culprit.
Discovered recovery mode and did factory data reset. Can acces odin screen on device too.
Device boots but hangs on language selection screen
I have found and downloaded stock rom for it that I found here somehow
I tried "Mrjraider" tutorial "how to flash back to a stock rom"
but odin crashes whenever I load the rom file and it wont recognize my GN8.0
Computer runs on windows 8. Kies is up to date too. Kies reconizes device but is unable to update or anything
Was running odin in win xp sp3 with administrator
can try on a win7 computer tomorrow.
This is the name of the file its about 1.2 Gb....... N5110UEDMD1_N5110XARDMD1_HOME.tar.md5 do I need to rename this or something
There was also a .dll that was in the package, wtf with that?????
be looking through this forum all day and night and cant quite find what im looking for. If what I seek is here please point me to it. Or if any one here in Brisbane, can fix it for me,What are your thoghts? PM me.

If I'm not mistaken, remove Kies, then try using Odin. Also, dll is a Windows file. I could be wrong about Kies, but I think I remember reading that it conflicts with Odin.

Yesterday I installed same firmware in my computer runing win7 with Odin and Kies installed at the same time without problems. You don't need to rename the file, dll is a library for windows and needs to be on the same folder as the md5 file. Just remember to put the Note in download mode in order to get the firmware installed by Odin.

I have a thread in the development forum with the only file you need just flash in odin and done.

Tutorial is ok, problem seems to be elsewhere.
I have Windows 8 (x64) too, and Odin works i my case, i successfully flashed (and restored counter) N5110 before returning tablet to shop (it was exchange for N5100). Kill all Kies components via task manager, i have two more things in processes when i quit Kies. Next, try another version of Odin, but I remember one ROM from SamMobile, which crashed every Odin i had, so its may be this problem. Try another version of ROM - older, if exists. If crashes Odin too or not exists, try uninstall both Kies and Samsung USB driver, dowload toolkit from xda (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2251033) and install new driver via toolkit.
In rare cases may be problem in your computer, so try another one without installing Kies. I wish you luck.
Edit - That big file is ROM, dll is not needed for Odin. Run Odin, press PDA, select your rom. Turn tablet off, connect to comupter by original or hi-quality short cable, set tablet into download mode (hold vol- and home, press power on for 2 secs, select continue by pressing vol+). If all is ok, first field in Odin change color to yellow (i think), then press "Start".

Thanks to all. Let you know how I go. Odin 4.43 keeps crashing when loading the rom, on both my win8 laptop and fresh installed win 7 pc. Uninstalled everything from laptop except nero. Nothing installed on pc except modem drivers and Samsung drivers. I will redownload the rom. I think it may have become corrupt. Cheers
ok success. this is what I did. eventually got the rom to sit in odin without crashing it by simply renaming file by deleting the .tar.md5 extention. clicked off the file to save the rename. Right click on it again to rename and type the extension back in. Loaded it in odin and it worked. File name in odin showed up with duplicate file extention eg .tar.md5.tar.md5 but it worked. Odin 4.43 would not detect my device. Senior Moderator Mskip toolkit for Samsung galaxy note 8 would not detect my device .This was very frustrating

loaded rom in pda. Found in janjannsen99 development thread.
connected device ,odin 3.07 detected it, unlike 4.43 for some reason.
clicked start.
Walla. Im a happy man.

This is the kind of story that are the most scary. Now I am kind afraid of root my note 8 or do anything unofficial.

That's what I use odin 3.07 . Don't use the other versions for some reason they don't work
Secondly guys when you download that file in my thread tO your computer it has to be extracted first you only Click PDA In ODIN and use the file you just extracted with the tar md5 extension. Thats it. That ss.dll file has no purpose its just there and you need not even bother with it.

Could you tell me the filename? I am using the Note 8.0 toolkit.

I have checked that, but I don't see US Note 8.0. The search seems broken to, since United States is not shown in the list of country for Note 8.0

No one knows how to get the stock US based ROM?

U have to register on sammobile.com to download firmwares (stock ROM). Put the model as SGH-i467 and u will the file

people keep posting to go to sammobile but every time i look there isn't a rom labeled for the US, and they dont give an explanation of what rom would be the equivilant or even if any of them would be. Should I use UK version? is it the same as the US?
I'm having the same exact issue as OP and I can get into download mode and i have odin 3.07 but i am just looking for the exact rom to load and cant find an exact answer so far. I've already messed up my tablet enough today so I don't want to flash the wrong rom and make things worse lol.

ok I did some more reading around the web and found that a lot of people used the UK version as I kinda suspected. Would have been nice to get confirmation on that but its cool, I flashed it, no problem, and now I'm setting up the chainfire root and getting back all my apps. So all in all it took a few days but I'm back on my feet *sigh of relief*

odin fail sytem.img.ext4

I had a beautifully running dlk3 at&t SGH-I747. had problems with battery so I flashed odin to stock DLK3. then I took the OTA from at&t and let it complete. at the end I told cwm not to let it lose root or lock boot loaders, I answered 2 questions about preserving root and secured or some thing like that. rebooted and I have the jb4.1.2 . all good.
you know I gotta see if I am missing out on any thing by using cwm to preserve root ect.
so I start over clean DLK3 take the OTA form At&t . this time I have cwm not interfear. ok great i'm jb 4.1.2 again works good.
I used CF-Auto-Root-d2att-d2uc-samsungsghi747 and now I get fail at system. as you can tell i'm still learning and learning my lessons, but if some one could direct me to what step I should try i'd appreciate it.

after I tries keis to fix it it failed and after a battery pull and retrying odin to DLK3 stock. open oden , plug phone in com does not light up but it lists the top 0 failed threads. so I un plug and plug in and retry DLK3 and end up taking screen shots
I have lost my recovery all together I only have download mode

Start with the basics...try a different micro usb/usb cable. Then if that doesn't work, try a different usb port on the pc. Don't use a hub. Make sure the phone's micro usb port is clean of debris, as well check the ends of the cable and usb port to make sure they are clean.
The cable is usually the cause of the failure in urs and other similar instances. :thumbup:

thankx for your reply I broke out the original usb cable and tried different portsand stilo the same.
I here searching the forums now looking for a clue as what to do to get my stock recovery back.

Just for giggles, try using Odin v3.07. Several people say the version your using is ok, but I've always used 3.07 on the s3 with no problems.

that's the version I'm using. I found a pit file reset it and got a recovery flashed. it allows flashing from external storage, but when I try to do that it sends me to the internal storage where I cannot put a file yet.
I'm thinking about sending it to get jtag repaired but then I wouldn't have gotten to fix it my self.
as I know see I flashed cf auto root on locked boot loaders ( the method of checking for locked boot loaders I used was dumb) and I got bit.
can any one tell me of how they handled this?

Bootloaders on this device, I747/m, are not locked, afaik. And the screen shot you posted was from Odin 1.81.

Try flashing lg1 stock, not rooted. It will o wipe your internal sd, but may get you fixed up. Lg1 is the only full wipe stock package we have.

oh crap i now know what happened. th file that had odin 1.81 in it. i knew better but it was in the pre packaged auto root for the at&t sgh-I747.
after you pointing out i didn't use the rite one for the auto root (even tho i uves 3.07 sgs3 odin rite after i didn't notice that i used 1.81.
thats why i posted the errors in full scren shot just ncase i did some thing stupid hopping some one would point it out.
so i can get in to download and if i work at it i can now get into a buggy but usable stock recovery.
i was using stock not rooted DLK3 from the same place as the Lg1. i tried but still only barley alive.... but i believe i can fix it. no proof yet tho.
i already bought a brand new sgh-I747 off of swappa and it will be here about the 9th. so now i have time to fix it. it'll be a project / testing phone.

i am using odin 3.07 galaxy 3 odin.

[Q] Failed Sprint Note 2 Root Stuck in Loop, Dev not answering

I attempted a root on Samsung Note 2 Sprint version (in white). Followed all steps, however phone got stuck in a reboot loop right after I put the option 2 (root only) Odin step in. Sprint ver LPH889 (I believe that is what Odin is calling it, option 72). Toolkit used was ADB 4.1.0.
Original symptoms were that the Android updater was looping trying to load everything; being new I made it worse and tried recoveries and reloads which also failed. Now it boots, goes to splash, circling blue oval image and...it stays there.
Good news: I have access to download mode and recovery reset mode (including sideloading).
Bad news: every thread I've followed has given me an issue.
I have recovery access but I need some idea of where to go from here and searches have shown near but not exact symptoms. I have unplugged it from the pc, removed the battery, done a factory reset, attempted to reflash via Odin (root) attempted to reflash stock via Odin and so far I am still stuck in a reboot loop. Windows detects the phone but shows a problem in device manager because possibly it won't stop rebooting. Any help you can provide is appreciated and if at all possible I need to recover some form of working phone here, and soon. My girl needs it for work and Sprint's network in my area barely works from day to day (which they admit but don't credit my account for). This phone has problems sending/receiving calls, they claim it's fine, and I was forced to try a root to get some form of working device. That failed too.
I'm a newb at this...it's been years since I flashed a phone (Razor v3), so...any help would be appreciated, otherwise I have to crawl to sprint/samsung and get it replaced, which I don't want to do. Thanks.

What method are you using to root.....I used the "toolkit" and had no problems at all.

I thought it would to but I did not want to dig through 70+ pages of the thread when searching failed...unless I really needed to. Most of it is old and doesn't apply.
I was directed by the referenced Youtube vid. I used the options referenced for the phone in this thread with that toolkit. I backed up existing files (not as one unit, but internal files and I think OS), went for the option 2, followed the instructions and things went great through odin...until android went to update and started looping with the 'updating files' percentages. At that point I tried to restore to basic and started clearing caches and such and that is how I got to where I am.
When that failed I started looking at the leaked stock flash and that failed on shoot.ini which that guy never addressed because he thought his international version was all versions (that's why I choose 'doesitwork?' as screen name ). So i'm down to sideloading or something. I really need guidance, and I emailed the toolkit author but I'm still waiting on a reply.
Any thoughts?

When used the toolkit a year ago, I found that I had to turned off all firewalls and antivirus apps for it to work properly. Once I did that it worked fine....give it a shot...can't hurt......might even be able to repair what you've done so far.....Good Luck!!!

I'll give this my best shot...download a rooted rom from the development section and place it on your SD card.
Download toolkit from here (I take no credit for this) http://d-h.st/iu0
Put phone in download mode.
Open ODIN and uncheck "auto reboot". Then click "PDA" and add the .tar file (recovery).
Plug phone into PC (make sure to have samsung drivers installed).
Once ODIN sees the phone you can click "start".
When the recovery flash is complete, pull your battery to ensure power down.
Boot into recovery : volume up, home, power all at the same time.
Flash rooted rom.

Toolkit is an extra and unnecessary step.

Grab the one click flavor of choice. Use the one with 1090526 in the name as that's the full version.
Open in windows, put phone in download mode and flash. Easy Peasy.

hello @garwynn im trying to do this same thing.. its been so long since ive odin'd, how would i put TWRP on this now after these steps? i tried goomanager and that didnt work. (couldnt find recovery) and i tried flashing in stock recovery and got a fail . im kind of lost right now and am wondering if there is another way or do i have to do the toolkit? thanks

[Q] Boot Loop/Stock firmware/I seriously need help PLEASE!!!!

This is my very first post although I have used this site countless times. I'm just going to jump right to it because I seriously need some help!
I am trying to fix my SGH-M919 (Tmobile S4) that just suddenly stopped working one day. I have tried EVERYTHING! Kies, custom roms, Odin but my phone still will not load past the Samsung logo. It will boot into recovery (TWRP) and Download mode. I know that using Kies is the quick fix but (LUCKY ME...not) my phone is one of the few phones tmobile/Samsung sent out with no S/N on the sticker under the battery. Since I cant get into my phone I cant get the S/N and I do not have the box anymore.
I have tried using the many sgh-m919 Stock Rom files online, including this site, but nothing is working. When I spend hours downloading them and begin to use them in odin, Odin doesn't load the file for me to flash.
I know I am using Odin correctly because I have done it successfully countless times in the past. I have also tried EVERY download file out there, but I can't find a good one that I can flash in Odin. I have also tried all of the guides on this site several times so please don't redirect me to them, because I have seriously and correctly tried them all. If you have any suggestion please let me know. I can't afford the 161.00 Samsung is requiring or the 175 warranty fee tmobile is charging. PLEASE HELP.
And if some has a good copy of the Stock Rom for SGH-M919 that they would be willing to email me I would FOREVER be greatful!
also my sdcard and battery are not the issue.... tried that too

Were there any symptoms or anything you may have done out of the ordinary that might or might not have caused the problem? By saying that odin will not load files, is there an error message or what exactly do you mean by that? And what version odin are you using?

I don't know if its something I have done wrong or not. I followed all of the instructions to the letter. I think (but am not sure) that I don't have a usable copy of the Stock Firmware.
I am using v3.10 but I have tried them all.
When I click on AP in Odin, then click on the file I am sent back to Odin, but the file (and filename) doesn't appear in the AP box like normal.

The stock firmware files take a while for odin to validate md5 check I think. Select your firmware file in Odin's selector, then wait a few mins for bit to process before giving up. This time lag surprised me first time I flashed stock firmware. Big file means longer wait!

The longest I have waited has been an hour, do you think that I should still wait longer?

Try different version of odin. Even if the file was bad, it would say something

Try a different pc.

Help getting my Note 8 flashed properly

Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong forum here, but I wasn't sure where to start.
I got an ATT Note 8 unlocked running Nougat that would not come up on the Verizon network using my working SIM card. I had read that there were known issues with this and that an upgrade to oreo would fix things. Googling around I found an upgrade zip file from N950USQS2BQK2 to N950USQU2CQL1. I used the recovery method to upgrade from that file and at first things seems to be fine. I started having lots of issues with apps dying, eg Contacts, Phone and Bixby and started to wonder if perhaps the OS could be further upgraded. I hunted around and installed the samfirm tool and downloaded the file
SM-N950U_1_20181126150901_ouxwmh265r_fac.zip and extracted out all the parts. Using Odin (13.1) I tried to install this file but it got hung installing
system.img.ext4. Realizing that it would likely cause problems I powered off the phone after a couple of hours with no progress. As expected the phone was pretty pissed off when I tried to boot it up. It was stuck in trying to upload a crash file and took a lot of fiddling around to convince it to go back to download mode, thanks to one of the posts from this site I was able to make it work.
I've tried the same file again and it is stuck again at the same place. So the question is should I be using a different file? If at all possible I'd just like to run the standard Verizon load, in hunting around it seems for the latest Oreo I should use N950USQS5CRK1. but I can't figure out where to get that file in the format that Odin uses I've looked on the firmware.science website but have only come up with the zip version that would work with the recovery mode. Unfortunately with the state my phone is currently in I don't think I can get to recovery mode. It is in the endless upload mode, hitting the down & power button will shut it down but it comes right back to the upload screen. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the rambling post.

If at all possible I'd just like to run the standard Verizon load, in hunting around it seems for the latest Oreo I should use N950USQS5CRK1. but I can't figure out where to get that file in the format that Odin uses I've looked on the firmware.science website but have only come up with the zip version that would work with the recovery mode. Unfortunately with the state my phone is currently in I don't think I can get to recovery mode. It is in the endless upload mode, hitting the down & power button will shut it down but it comes right back to the upload screen. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the rambling post.

Download this odin firmware and FIRST extract it one time and the files for odin will be in the extracted folder and flash. You must flash AP, BL, CP and CSC all at the same time. Fill all the slots in odin.

Thanks for this. One question, I had the same issue the last time, there is a CSC and a HOME-CSC file included in the zip archive, which of these should be used with Odin?

if I wanna odin without losing data I use home instead of CSC correct?

I would suggest also using Samsung Smart Switch before doing it. It gives you the option to back up pretty much your whole phone including just about all your apps, settings and customizations to an SD card. It also saves your custom icon groups too if you do that. The it makes it a breeze to restore after doing an Odin flash. It has helped save me a time or 2.
Eta: After rereading the OP, looks like you may not be able to use this as you need to be able to boot all the way up.

Right, I was not able to boot so smart connect isn't an option, but luckily it's a new phone so no data to transfer. I did run into an issue using Odin with USB C on my laptop to the phone, I think that is how I got into that predicament in the first place with Odin downloads failing to complete. Works fine with USB 2.
