All,
Just a post to share some info - may not be news to most, but someone may find it useful.
Last night, I plugged my phone into an after-market wall charger, see http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA1TX0K36623. This unit has worked well for the last couple of years, keeping my wife's HTC Hero (retired), my HTC EVO 4G, and her Samsung Galaxy S2 charged without any problems. However, after having had my Galaxy note 2 plugged in for four hours, the battery had not charged appreciably.
After doing some searching, largely in this forum, I discovered the issue with media indexing; and yes, on my phone, this process was consuming about 25% of the CPU (despite the fact that the total number of pictures and songs I placed on the phone can be counted with the fingers on both hands). I installed Rescan Media ROOT (which resolved the media scanning issue), but the phone still wasn't charging (with this charger - with another one, it charges just fine).
I know that the charger and cable are fully functional, so I was puzzled as to the cause. A little more research turned up the fact that the Note 2 draws more current than other phones, and I surmised that the problem was that the charger is simply not capable of providing sufficient current. I just ordered this charger, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16875984917, and expect that charging issues will disappear.
So, bottom line: If you phone is not charging in the manner expected, check the charger. Even if it works with other devices, it may not work with the Note 2.
Not that it doesn't work so to speak, it just has a lower amperage than the note 2's charger. The note 2 charger is strong enough to quickly charge an iPad but if you're left with a knock off like the one you mentioned, if you turn off your phone or under clock it severely when your asleep it should get a full charge by morning

Considering thats a 1A charger and the Note 2 charger is 2A of course its not going to be able to keep up with the draw of the device. You're putting in half of the recommended amperage and expecting the same results, not going to work. Most other devices use a 500mA to 1A charger so of course it will work for other phones. Most tablets use 2A chargers, the note being a phablet would need a minimum of 1.5A to not lose any power but barely charge, 2A to charge faster. Put the battery in a 1A ext charger and it takes almost 8 hours to charge from 0 - 100% with no draw from the device, add in device draw and it's just not possible to charge off a 1A while the battery is in the device.

You need a 2A non-apple charger (or an apple charger with a modified USB cable).

Of course you can charge with a 1amp charger (with battery in phone). I do it all the time. Bought a couple Samsung chargers off ebay. (Old kind that came with older Galaxy Sii and SIII's. 1amp. They work fine to charge. Slower of course, but adequate for the job. I'd want a decent OEM charger and not some of the cheap aftermarket junk that you find all the time.
I use them to maintain and charge when I'm using the Kindle app and reading on my Note2, or just to charge while I'm watching TV with my phone beside me.

1A is so slow if you do anything radio intensive like talk on the phone or download anything the battery will actually drain instead of charge. It doesn't work well for charging while in use, maybe charging overnight, but charge and use and it will never charge and more than likely actually drain. Single usb at 500mA will definitely drain while in use. Charging on a 1A while in use is a terrible idea as it will damage the cells so they won't hold a charge as long and can permanently ruin your battery. You're better off just using the oem charger it came with, than risking damage to your battery. If you look in the manual it states quite clearly not to use any charger besides the 2A due to heightened risk of damage to the device from the constant voltage spikes as the phone draws and then backs off allowing the voltage regulator to continuously engage and disengage. It's similar to standing at the outlet and repeatedly plugging and unplugging the charger.

Quick follow-up: this charger, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16875984917, works great. No issues simultaneously charging my Note 2 and my wife's Galaxy 2.
What's interesting about my note2, if i use the OEM 2A charger, the battery will increase it's charge by about 5% over night (about 8hrs) . I started using another charger (this one a Samsung charger for a bluetooth keyboard) that only outputs .55A at 4.75V - this charges my Note2 just fine...I can go from 20%-100% in about 2 hours.
Any theories on what is going on? Perhaps my battery is just going bad? I've had the phone and battery for about 4 months now.
As far as I can tell, battery life has not changed.
ppines01 - I am not expert, but:
Are you using the same cable with both chargers? If not, perhaps one of them is bad.
Could be that the OEM charger is out of spec.

I can confirm this. My wife has the s2 with the newer oem charger looks just like the note 2 and s3 chargers, (not the little box plugin). Ive plugged my phone in to hers and actually watched my battery drain while surfing the net. Ive also plugged my phone in to her charger to see how long it took to charge from 1% to 100% woke up in the morning with only 30% charged.

New to the Nexus, recently purchased from the Play store. On my commute I generally am running Waze (or google navigation) and Audible with screen on auto brightness. With these running I get a slow drain. With these running on my old iPhone 4s, I would get a slow charge (unless it got hot, then it drained). I am using the same charger (capable of enough power to charge a iPad) I guess I am worried about long trips, don't want to show up with an almost dead phone...
I did flash jelly bean last night, still a slow drain this morning on the way in.
Is this just the nature of the phone?
EDIT; disregard, found a prior thread...delete function does not seem to work??

the reason your nexus is still draining with your car charger is that it's only recognized as a 500mah usb, look at charging state in the settings and it will say USB. you can either mod a micro usb wire or the car charger buy connecting the two middle D pins. with this mod your nexus will recognize as AC charger that you can see in the settings.

i have the 5 dollar moto charger and it does really charge at 700mah, enough to charge while using maps, but the blue led is super bright and covers the entire circle. its very annoying at least for me to have a light that bright at night.
im using this one now, its an official motorola rapid charger that came with my Atrix's car mount. it charges at the same rate with 2 usb slots. http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Rapi...42088485&sr=1-4&keywords=motorola+car+charger
Another +1 for Motorola charger, only charger I have found that keeps charging my nexus while using navigation

I also use the Motorola charger, works great.
Out of curiosity, would there be any way to modify a USB port on the computer to induce the faster charging of an AC port? Is there an adapter for that?
I know there are kernels that allow for "fast charging,"but I don't know that there are any working with 4.1.1 yet

You saying just short the two middle pins together?
Edit; or better yet, is there a standard color code to the wiring? Will open the cable and tie them together in the middle... guess I could ohm them out as well

USB 2.0 ports are only designed to output 500mA. If you value your ports I wouldn't.
It is alway important to notice that, no charger will be able to keep the battery level or at least charge it a little bit if temperature is high and phone is hot... This is just the way Li Ion batteries are, their efficiency decreases exponentially when temperature is higher... So, sometimes charger is not the one to blame, but, the climate/sun shinning over the phone + screen on + 3G/4G + GPS = a phone that is smoking hot and a battery working in adverse conditions...
They're work ports so I wouldn't mind too much.
The truth is I don't really mind, because it does charge the phone, regardless of what I do. However, it does so slowly, and I was used to the fast charging of the iPhone. However, I've also +1 the Motorola charger in the car, it's a lifesaver. My battery never dies down in the car.

i've never modded my wires so im not sure if they are color coded. for the chargers though i didnt even use any solder just open up the casing and i just bent the two D pins on the usb adapter that were soldered to the board so that they touch. but yah thats the basic idea just connect those two lines somehow and your phone will recognize the charger as AC.
I have the motorola charger. The other day, I was getting a slow drain while using navigation. I confirmed the phone said it was charging (ac). I'm running JB. Anyone else with JB see a slow drain while using navigation with the motorola charger?

Working just fine for me, but it is a little bit cold in Brazil (about 58F, the higher the temperature, higher the battery temperature and higher the chances that battery efficiency is down the drain and/or phone just stop charging battery to avoid battery hitting dangerous temperature thresholds where it starts to degrade permanently and if temperature keep increasing, it might even explode).

I did a Palm Pre wireless charging mod on my nexus and HAVE to use a kernel with fast charge settings to get AC. Regardless of cables/chargers/whatever. Most kernels support it, and most popular kernels are running good on JB. My flavor is Trinity

UPDATE: I've tested and verified that a 2amp charger isn't any faster than 1amp.
The charger that comes with the S3 outputs 1.0 amp (5V), and my old Galaxy S1 Captivate came with a 0.7amp charger. Both are better than the measily 0.5amps that most computer USB ports output, which is barely enough juice for the phone to break even (let alone charge) when you're using your phone with the display brightness at 100%. Obviously the fastest way to charge is with the phone off, or a spare battery, but most of us don't do that.
How many of you are using an aftermarket 2amp usb wall charger without issue, and have you measured how much faster it charges? Also, will this faster charging reduce the S3's battery life, or is it within tolerances and Samsung just cheaped out on the included A/C charger?
As long as it's safe, I'm thinking about buying one of these $10 2amp chargers off amazon...

UPDATE: I read elsewhere that a 2amp charger can't really hurt your phone because there's obviously "smart" circuitry inside that limits the current anyway. If it really is smart, then the upside to 2amps SHOULD BE that when you're charging with the screen on @ 100% brightness, that more juice goes to the battery with the "extra" going to the display, instead of subtracting from what the battery gets.
Short answer: the two amp charger won't hurt the phone, plus it also is highly unlikely it will charge any faster on this particular phone.
The preceding discussion applies to "dumb" chargers and batteries (which ShannonPricePhoto pointed to a few posts ago). Increasing the charge voltage causes the battery to draw more current depending on the state of charge. The trick is we have both a smart charger and a smart battery in his phone. Lithium-ion batteries actually contain circuitry to prevent them from being overcharged inside the battery.
The cell phone industry has agreed on a worldwide standard cell phone charger as follows: it uses a micro USB connector (not a mini USB) they all charge at 5 V, the smart controller for charging the battery is inside the phone, and it determines how much voltage the battery receives during the charging cycle. (Not the charger, like a dumb charger used to charge a car battery, which changes its output voltage)
The standard allows for charger supplies ranging from 300 milliamps to 1 amp, and the phone can actually inquire what the capacity of the charger is through the USB data line.
Reading the standard makes me wonder if using the larger charger would allow the phone to take advantage of the full 2 amp capacity of the charger. One post indicated that older devices that were not covered by the cell phone standard may likely have charged quicker with a two amp charger, but I seriously doubt your phone will because it wasn't designed to do so. This however is an educated guess. One way to really find out is get two chargers and compare by measuring the actual current?

The stock charger provided with the Note 2 charges my phone extremely fast, after all we do know that it is rated at 2A. But naturally being a power hungry device I carry around a portable charger (5V 1A). It worked fine on my previous S2 but with the Note 2 the charge is insanely slow. Less than 10% per hour on standby. With that being said, if I use it while it's being charged, the battery % does not even budge.
Is this normal? Because if it is that slow, it defeats the purpose of carrying it around since it barely charges my phone. Are there alternatives? Do I need to resort to looking for a portable charger that also has a 2A output?
For the other Note 2 Users out there, do you experience similar issues?
Yes sir, normal.

I bought it for around $35USD. It may get cheaper but it solves all my problems. It charges your second battery while you use your phone, whenever your phone's battery is low, you swap the charged battery with the low battery one. That way you never have to keep your phone charging! Hell, one extra 3100mAh battery is less than $20 bucks, imagine Hurricane Sandy and you have saved up some leisure money to get a few extra batteries instead. You can last for a week without power.
It's a very good investment. Trust me. You can even ebay the used batteries when you upgrade your phone. Cos they are official accessories. Not those ugly battery sleeves.
BTW if you do want fast chargers, I recommend the Apple USB charger for iPAD. It is rated 2.1A. Any 1.0A chargers result in slow charge. Oh one more benefit, the battery cradle charger charges FASTER because there is no power drain on phone while you charge (compared to charging the battery inside the phone itself)
Hope it helps!
I'm curious on how you use the phone. The original charger fits in a pocket, and you can detach the cable and put that in a other pocket if you like. You travel around for so long that you are able to drain the battery and do not have access to either a usb port or a wall-outlet?
Regarding the stand/charger mentioned... The flimsy battery cover alone is a reason for me not to change batteries, unless the battery is broken. My future Otterbox totally wipes out any battery changing thoughts Personally I do not drain the battery so fast that I do not have time to access a usb port or a wall-outlet before it shuts down... I've even beat my record this weekend. 34% at 3d 6h 58m, 3.5h screen time with Juice Defender controlling the screen brightness. Some Facebook, surfing with Firefox, 10 minutes phone calls, reading (g-)mails, installing some apps and such...

Thanks everyone for their comments. Yes indeed I do agree the stock charger isn't all that hard to carry around. But it's a good question that you asked about my usage. So to shed some light, my heaviest usage is during lectures. Some use notes, others fire up their laptops, another group their tablets. For me I whip out my Note 2, put it on a stand and I'm good to go. Wall outlets don't appear often, and even if I sit close to one, the cable length disallows me to use my note while charging. Other than that I would be on the move or in some classroom somewhere.
And yes I too am reluctant to remove my phone case and the flimsy back cover. But I will keep the spare battery option in view.
Right now what I'm doing is plug in my portable charger during lectures. It at least still can sustain the battery. My portal charger has a 5000 + mAh capacity. But the charging speed is so slow, it really doesn't matter. I also use it to listen to music while travelling, but that itself puts minimal strain on battery consumption.

You can actually take out your favorite portable charger and test the charger v.s. cable combination to find the best match.
I am now using the YOOBAO 8400mAh which is a famous brand in China. I do not dare to use unknown brand in China, but this brand is famous and the quality is great. You can easily search on Amazon.
When I use the original Samsung USB cable with that portal charger, I can get a stable of 1.4A current during charging. Which is by far the best current I tested on 1A output portable charger. Some statistics for your reference:
When using USB cable with computer: 0.46A
When using bad cable with 2A output charger: < 1A
When using Samsung original charger + USB cable: 1.8A
So, if you could get a value between 1A and 1.8A, it is good enough to charge the note 2 in a quite reasonable short period of time!
Cable is very important, if you use an iPad charger (2A output) with a bad cable, you may get less than 1A output to the phone...

I have read your link. My phone is rooted, unfortunately due to known errors between Samsung and Windows Updates regarding the drivers to access the phone via USB, I at the moment cannot view my phone on my laptop. And unfortunately the app CurrentWidget does not work with Note 2.
My portable charger has a rated output of 1A. Provided along with it is a retractable charging cable that is much thinner than your conventional USB cable, presumably a dedicated charging cable. Now since it is the provided cable, I'm going to assume that the cable can release the full 1A? And here's another observation. Before this phone I had a Galaxy S2. It charges fine, and over time I can actually see the portable charger's power being drained. (It has 4 LED lights, 1 corresponding to 25%). Meaning from 4 lights, it becomes 3. So far, even after 2 hours of charging the note 2, the charger still registers at all 4 lights. Which is baffling, because this indicates that the charger, is charging my phone slower than it was compared to charging my previous S2. And indeed it does feel that way. A stock S2 charger is rated an output of 0.7A. So in the same amount of time, wouldn't my charger be drained faster from charging the Note 2? Is there some property of chargers that I'm not aware of? Like the phone only recognizes the stock charger to enable fast charge? It seems pretty apparent to me that somehow my phone is not tapping on to the full 1A output of the portable charger. I bought the charger at my local electronics store, also it worked well with my previous S2. So it's hard to imagine that the problem lies with a defective charger.
I'll add in some more information in case it helps:
- I have Juice Defender Plus and Advanced Task Killer. They do save my battery consumption.
- My brightness is always at 0% (I hate the glare, I do this on every screen I use. Laptop etc)
-I have the habit of restarting my phone after heavy use to ensure all background apps are closed properly (e.g. Lecture has ended and I'm hanging out with friends; or before I sleep)
- My phone is rooted, I use Gemini App Manager to disable the bloatware, so the respective background processes do not run anymore
- My ram usage is typically in the low 500s. After a restart It's in the 400s. I also have the habit of clearing my RAM via the task manager.
Edit:
I used ES File Explorer to view the files. And this is very weird. Using the charging cable, on both the laptop and portable charge, it showed an result of 100! I also tested it on my spare, micro-usb charger registered at 0.4A. The result is 400, which is correct.
So what happened here???
Guys the rear battery cover is not flimsy. It is thin But it has very high flexibility. It will not crack or deform unless you deliberately try to destroy it. It can be bent to 90 degrees without deformation.
I have put the cover on and off so many times that not even a single plastic clip has broken off. This is material science.
Get the charging cradle and battery pack. We are not iPhones with undetachable batteries. Utilize this advantage!
THE N7100 has a high power draw when you use it. It charges slowly especially when you are using it. Also, the USB cable grade and length IS VERY CRITICAL also. Try using a long micro USB cable n u will see How even more slowly it charges.
I have three batteries now n one charging cradle. I use my phone like I'm driving a Ferrari. Instant refuel When I'm out of batts.

Ok an update. I experimented with the combinations. Using the default charger and cable, looking at the current_max, it gives me 1800. Current_now is 1698. But for that thin cable, it only gives me 100mAh.
Now here's the interesting thing. When I tried using the default cable with my portable charger, I also get the same numbers. 1800 and 1698. Also, by using other USB cables with the portable charger, I also get the same numbers.
My problem is solved. But for curiosity why is a charger, registered to have an output of 1000mAh, able to squeeze out as much as an 2000mAh wall charger? Or is it my phone that dictates how much power it wants to draw?

must be the thin/cheap cable not having the right amount of circuit
Now I have a new question. Just now I have been monitoring my phone's charging speed. Looking at the current_max, it was at 1100. This was when the phone was at 40+ %. After 50%, no matter what combinations I used, even with the default charger, the max_current freezes at 400. Is this some feature the Note 2 has? That it cuts the charging speed after 50%?
Just to ask, how long did your phone take to charge completely with the stock charger and cable? And how do you monitor current charging value?

From the method described by ardatdat here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33585646&postcount=31
As I'm doing work I just open up the current_max file to have a look. Starts off at 1000+ but after a couple of minutes it'll go right down to 400.
Now I've never actually timed it so I'm not sure.
Does the number of pins affect charging? Upon close inspection the micro usb end has 4 pins instead of what I believe usually is 5. I need to reconnect a few times for the charging rate to be stabilized at 1300. So perhaps that accounts for the weird numbers I've been getting?
Mine has 4 pins too, that's the way it is I think.
Btw- What other chargers are there with same freq/spec as Note 2's Stock charger, i.e 2A/5V? iPad or anything?
I have current max 1100 and current now 1700 with original charger. Isn't it supposed to be the other way around?
Edit: with the galaxy s III's charger it's the same. Wtf

Friend. I STRONGLY suggest you to get a Samsung Battery Charger Cradle Kit.
It comes with:
One Battery Charging cradle + Phone Stand
One Extra Battery

It's supposed to be that way. Refer to the post by ardatdat (Link in previous post). He says to look at current_max and current_avg. Not current_now. The value of current_now doesn't change no matter what charger you use. current_max and current_avg will display the amount of current going through at that moment. You can try plugging the usb cable to your PC. current_max will drop to probably 400 while your current_now is 1700. For me it always shows 1698.
I have some powerbank, which my friend bought to me in Singapore. It is 12000 mah with 2 outputs : 1A amd 2.1A. When i use cable that i got with powerbank i get 400 in max on 1A and 700 on 2.1A.
When i use Samsung cable with 2.1A i got 1400 in max.. Is that ok?

Yes it's ok. I get 1400 from the stock charger. I believe when you compare the stock usb cable to that of your power bank, it is thicker?
From day one when I got ZeroLemon 9300 mAh battery, the question of external charger for this battery was on my mind. You get a monster capacity, but it will also take at least 3x as long to charge it up and you can only do that inside of your phone. It's OK if you run out of lemon juice and put your Note 2 on a charger overnight, but otherwise you better have a spare fully charged battery. Plus, for some of us the use of ZL battery will be not daily thing. Bottom line, external charger is a must have. I have talked to ZL support and they confirmed about looking into rapid external charger, but no details about it available yet. So I figured to try something out myself.
The challenge is that ZL battery looks like a stock footprint on top of a large plate. Most of the regular single battery charges have small footprint where they could mate with battery contacts but ZL will be top-heavy pulling out of the charger. I came across this cradle charger from Tmart.com, it's about $15 and as a bonus you can charge the battery and sync your phone. Got it from here: http://www.tmart.com/Twin-USB-Cradl...for-Samsung-Galaxy-Note-II-N7100_p173079.html - they actually have it in their US warehouse so it arrived very fast. As a cradle it's OK, although just like any vertical cradle-stand it can accept only a slim case or Note 2 without a case. Also, for some reason with an included ac-adapter you can't charge at more than 500 mA (it was forcing it into USB charging mode). But that wasn't my main purpose.
In order to fit ZeroLemon, I had to modify this case where the back support of the cradle/stand had to be leveled off. Since I use dremel for my mods, I actually included a picture below for those who are interested. Using a cutting wheel to slice it off, and griding wheel to smooth out the rough edges. Turned out to be very functional! Because of the wide base of the charger/cradle, there is no wobbling or worrying the battery will pop out of the charger. The only drawback is that charging led light is covered by the battery, but if you look sideways you can actually see it [edit]... tried charging with a stock battery, light was staying red while battery got charged up, after awhile turned blue, so don't count on red/blue as reliable indicator, although it charges up ok... [/edit]. I took my depleted ZL (it was down to 3%) and set it on the charger overnight from midnight until 7:30am. I did use an included AC wall charger since I figured it said 1500 mA so it should charge it fast. In the morning popped the battery into the phone and to my surprise found it to be only at 32%. That would mean that wall charger was actually providing about 415 mA instead of 1500 mA. No surprise since you can never trust these labels. It could have been a typical 500 mA charger with some efficiency loss down to 415 mA of actual current. I decided to use my other "trusted" 2A wall charger. Kept it charging in the same setup from 10am till 1:50pm, popped it into the phone and battery went from 32% to 97% in under 4 hours!!! Which is approximately 1550 mA of supply from a wall charger, with some efficiency loss from original value. So if I would have used this wall charger from 3%, most likely I would have gotten to a full 100% charge in under 7 hours, maybe even 6 1/2 hours.
Pretty much charging circuit of that cradle/charge is able to handle high current input and can charge Zerolemon at relatively fast rate of 1500 mA supply. Plus, even after slicing a layer of back support of that cradle, I was still able to plug in the phone and charge/sync it (although through that micro-usb connector it was charging at USB rate, not AC).
Bottom line, it worked! Oh, and as a disclaimer I have to mention that I'm not responsible for any damage to your battery or your fingers if you decide to duplicate it Here are the pictures:

No, that charger is a joke even for a standard battery, toooooo slow in charging due to only 350mA supply. Also, it plugs in to the wall while you need something that will plug in to the external wall charger with usb/micro-usb. Not every charger will work. You need something similar to what I have above.

I agree that the supply is too weak on that charger, however the form factor should work if you have an outlet on a horizontal surface. Powerstrips are often placed in this way. You just need to find one with a good 2A output.

Does your led turns blue when it's done charging? I think I have been tweaking my charger too much with mods and fitments, cause now I feel like charger is not making a good contact with a battery. I had it on for a long time and only got up to 78% which wasn't like before. Either way, this is the only charger cradle I found so far that can fit ZL and uses external USB wall charger. I hope ZL will come through with their own fast external charger!
Wonder if my Anker charger will work. Debating in this battery, but been happy with my Hyperion 6200 so far a d fits fine in my Anker external charger. Takes about 10 hours to charge, but don't use it everyday and always have a back up Anker 3100 on back up.

hey vectron, since you have ZL's "ear", tell them they should expand this catagory to include home /desk chargers, car chargers, and a couple of cases. Obviously, the chargers need to be a bit higher capacity, but, they should already have this stuff on the drawing board/test phase..
I was in the automotive battery/charger business for many years, and I know how successful a program like this can/should/will be!

I think they are well aware of the demand for all this stuff, but it seems they are focusing mainly on batteries. Heard from someone ZL will have 3x capacity S4 battery in a few weeks. So their #1 priority is a battery, and with so many new popular phones, it keeps them pretty busy.
What we need is one of those universal wall chargers that can supply 2A. If you look on ebay, they do have universal chargers where contact location could be moved to adapt to different batteries and it also expands for different battery sizes. But they all have internal converter built in and limited to 500-600mA. Someone in HK needs to realize all new phones use 1A-2A chargers.

I was able to zoom in on Amazon into Anker charger and from close up its 600 mA, so we are talking about 16 hours of charge time for ZL. This confirms your charging time of 6200 mAh / 600 mA = 10.3 hr. I do believe Anker charger will fit ZL.

I decided to get the 45W charger for whatever reason. Plugged in at 1% and 30 minutes later was sitting at 54% percent. Phone was on with the screen off. It took exactly 70 minutes to charge to 100%.
The 25W charger charges from 0% to 100% in 66 to 68 minutes for me.
Fast cable charging is enabled in the settings. The cable that came with the 45w brick is being used. I'm very confused. I've noticed other times that it was greatly slower than my 25w charger.
Obviously it varies a lot based on temperatures but this is charging in the same room at the same room temperature off of the same wall plug.
No joke at this point I'm charging slower with the 45w charger than the 25w charger.
Anybody wanna chime in here?
From the results I see here I do NOT see any reason to purchase this 45w charger at all. At the very most I saw a 7% gain when charging while the phones were off at the 25 minute mark.
Here is some actual data
25w Charger vs 45w Charger Phone ON
25w Charger vs 45w Charger Phone OFF
25w Charger vs 45w Charger Phone ON and OFF
I've seen a lot of negative reviews on the 45 watt charger. I'm not sure why. I don't know if varies its speed on differing factors or not. I know a lot of people were complaining about spending the extra $50 and it either being slower than the 25 watt or it was only slightly faster....by a matter of minutes. You would think it should almost be twice as fast but it's not. I stuck with the 25 Watt but I'd love to know other's input as well and testing.
Try testing the relative time from say 20% to 80%. You should see a substantial improvement with the 45w charger. I think the phone heats up more with the 45w, so charges more slowly as it nears 100%, resulting in what you are seeing. The benefit of the 45w charger is getting a quick large boost, not in going from 0 to 100.
Lol no no what I'm saying is that the 45w charger has been slower than the 25w charger at all points of charging. I can understand throttling from heat and all that, and throttled from 80 to 100. This is just ridiculous though.
In 30 minutes I go from 0 to ~62% with the 25w charger.
With the 45w charger I barely make it to 54%.

The 0 to 20 it so is no faster than the 25w. Just try the experiment I suggested. Or don't. If you don't see a marked difference, then you have a bad 45w charger, or some other issue.
There is indeed a small difference, I own both 25W and 45W and from 0% to 50% the 45W is faster by a matter of few minutes maybe less than 5, while on a full charge is only 1 minute faster. Is not slower for sure. With the 45W charger I can also charge my laptop decently
yeah it's definitely not recommended for most ppl.
Just get another 25w for half the price.
At the very least the 45w option works for other stuff too like laptops, or ive used it to power my switch in a dock.
With most of these chargers. The only way to get a real figure is powering the device off. Then charging. Most of the older commercials were stating that the "device can charge to 1/2 full in 15min on fast charge." Then they would power off the device and charge it up. It was the commercial with the guy in a bar if I remember correctly.
With the device powered on, there are factors that could impact the charging speeds like energy consumption with process intensive apps.
I too have the 45w & the 25w. Don't like the size of it. Like they could have done GaN components to make it more compact. Been looking for a GaN charger that supports PPS. Not really coming up with anything. IF any of you want a 60w USB C PD/PPS & USB A QC 4.0 charger for the car 12v. This one is whatI am using. I integrated it and modified a Switch Blank . Charges the Laptop no problem. Charges the Note 10+ no problem.
Half the price. and the USB A is 18w too.///

Still getting one of these. Disappointed that they skipped over the protocols for everyone else and stuck to Apple protocols and the standard PD. Size and output is a win still for me. Wont do PPS or any Samsung specific profiles. Still will do PD stuff so 45w will still do its thing.

Long and short of this whole "Which charger is better for the Note 10+" is this. - 45w PPS max is what it supports. Any charger that supports that profile should do the same thing. Size, dimensions, features, are the only other wild cards.

Your switch game is on level 5000
45W fast charging will start when the battery is below 30%
But there is also a starting condition is that the phone battery temperature must be below 30˚C,when it exceeds, it will drop to 25W
It is impossible to satisfy all conditions at the same time
However, it is not fully loaded with 45W below 30%, and the highest speed tested is only 36W

Appreciate that. I was lazy that day and did the whole thing with what I had in my pocket. My Leatherman Charge TTI KNIFE, A lighter, and a Glue stick. Imagine what it would have looked like if I used my real tools ??*?*??
Hello guys, here are some actual results from some data I collected. The 45w charger is a complete bust in my eyes unless Samsung releases some software update where they allow more juice to flow through, but at this point I think heat might be an issue. DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT purchase this charger, and if you did I hope you complain to Samsung and let them know through social media or reviewing the product. This 45w charger is a complete waste of money because having access to higher wattage matters nothing when the phone limits the wattage it allows to be charged at as heat becomes the limiting factor. You can get a 100w charger and it will make no difference with the heat being the bottleneck.
From the results I see here I do NOT see any reason to purchase this 45w charger at all. At the very most I saw a 7% gain when charging while the phones were off at the 25 minute mark.
Here is some actual data
25w Charger vs 45w Charger Phone ON
25w Charger vs 45w Charger Phone OFF
25w Charger vs 45w Charger Phone ON and OFF
Your 45w charger is defective.

Your comment is pointless towards somebody with actual data. This is real world data not YouTube sponsored video and YouTube reviewers that use phones that have zero usage. If you have data to share from your 45w charger please do so we can see, but don't just say your charger is defective.
