Huawei Ideos x3 u8510 Battery Drain. - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Good evening fellow Xda forum members! I'll try to get to the point here. I have a Cyanogenmod based Rom known as "Supertoast", (I got it from a german site, since Xda doesn't let me post outside links, just google "Ideos x3 supertoast rom", the link that starts [ROM] Supertoast -v1 is the page I got it from, just check the first forum post on that page to see which is it). It is the updated version. So, I was quite happy that I could personalize Cyanogenmod, everything basically. But I am not quite comfortable knowing that it drains my battery life faster than my stock rom, and even worse, it drains a lot when I play a game... For example, when I play angry birds, it five minutes, my battery loses 2%, while in stock that didn't happen. Also, Pinball Pro right now has a 21% usage on battery life, even though I played like 5 minutes and then stopped it a half hour ago. So, how can I solve this? I am kinda getting convinced to return to stock, since I have the nandroid backup on my PC. But that is what I want to know. How do you fix this? Or can someone suggest me a better rom to flash? Since I like Cyanogenmod, but the battery life does not make me confortable.
P.S: I forgot to mention I charged my battery to 100%, used Battery Calibration apk, and am now draining it completely.
By the way, if for the rom issue, I have CWM 5.0.2.7 installed, just in case that info is necessary. Thanks
Quick answers are appreciated!

Is this the last word on the subject?
This was posted several months ago, and to date, there has been no reply. Can anyone help now, after the Supertoast build has been in use for a while longer?

I'm about to make the same decision, with the same phone ... stock or CyanogenMod. Can this problem be confirmed?
Maybe this slipped through the cracks, or was it posted on the wrong forum? If that's the problem, could someone please point me in the right direction, and I'll repost the content there.

[Q] Advice needed on whether to flash or not

Hey guys,
Firstly, Thanks for taking the time to look at this post.
I bought a Desire HD last month and have been reading about how the battery adapts to your usage and eventually improves within two to three weeks. This hasnt been the case for me unfortunately. I take my phone off the charger exactly at 12 30pm before going to work and by the time I leave work around 9pm, my battery is usually sitting around the 40 - 45% mark with literally two to three minutes of usage throughout my shift! I tried JuiceDefender but didnt help at all. Also, I uninstalled all the apps I installed when I first got the phone just to check if that made a difference - it did not.
Now I'm no expert at this but from what I could make out from other threads, flashing my rom sounds like a promising option.
My question to the experts is, I have only had this phone for a month, I know it will void my warranty if I flash the rom but do I really need the warranty? I mean I never used any warranty before on any of my phones and since this is such a promising phone, I highly doubt it that something could go wrong (ofcourse with the exception of human error like dropping or losing the phone etc.) If I plan on flashing, which rom would you recommend to a rookie with almost no knowledge about flashing and roms etc but very eager to learn? Any tips, advice, anything at all would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance to anyone thats going to contribute!
Hello,
First I am no expert . I have rooted and flashed just recently but I have learned a few things or two by hanging around excessively on the forum .
In my opinion battery life does improve ,Before rooting n flashing my overnight battery drain on standby mode was abt 9-10% n Now its abt 2-3%.
I started off with CM7 , though it is a very good ROM you won't get battery fix which you are looking for..still you should give it a try..may be it will work for you..
I tried 3-4 More ROMS before settling on MIUI..I keep coming back to it coz the battery life on it just amazing!!!...I get 20 hours+ on moderate usage..
Also radio for a ROM matters a lot...your battery life depends hugely on it...I tried about 6 different radios tll I found the correct one..
Also If you like Sense too much then you can try LeeDroid n RcMixHD both are very good Roms...though RcMicHD is better acc. to me..
So I think you should try these 3-4 Roms n see which suits you best.Hope I helped
Hi, I wholeheartedly agree with aradhyat.
MIUI IMO has all the benefits of Android & Cyanogen + Excellent UI Design.
Your warranty is safe. jkoljo contacted HTC and confirmed that software modifications do not void the warranty. Your carrier/network maybe a bit funny though.
Thanks heaps guys for such quick responses!
If flashing the rom doesnt void warranty, thats just superb. So I will give the mentioned rom a go and see how it works for me. Any tips for a guy who has never flashed a rom or anything like it? I'm pretty good with computers but just havent had any experience on this side.
Also, one question that was unanswered, is this normal for a battery to act this way on a stock rom? I mean the way its acting up for me, drains almost 60% while just sitting in my pocket or on my desk. Did any one of you also experience such a sucky battery life before flashing your roms?
No, your battery should not drain that fast under those conditions. It could be simply a misconfigured app that's hogging your juice.
What firmware are you currently using?
Andriod Version:
2.2
Baseband Version:
12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M
Kernel Version:
2.6.32.21-g66cfb7a
[email protected] #1

Build Number:
1.32.861.5 CL277010 release-keys
Software Number:
1.32.861.5
Browser Version:
WebKit 3.1
well, no, not really, its not normal for the battery to act like that with Stock ROM.
I think it depends on your initial first battery charge time.
::The following story is copyrighted!::
me and my 3 brothers all got the Desire HD.
my first brother charged for approx 20hrs at the first time with the phone being closed, and his battery is fine.
my 2nd brother charged till the battery got full with the phone on, and his battery finishes in half a day without alot of usage.
They both warned me, 1st brother told me to charge for 20hrs, second told me to charge for 24hrs, i charged inbetween (22hrs), and my battery is good!
(but true story)
:::::::
my overnight battery drainage is 3%. once i didnt use it for a whole day, and it was still in its 90's.
I think it depends on how you intially charge your phone, it matters greatly (HTC recommends 8hrs charge at first)
Great, your firmware is Ok for rooting directly.
Follow this thread -- > HERE
Then this one --> HERE
There is some overlap, i.e Visionary so no need to perform that twice.
Once done. Install ROM Manager from the market, and flash Recovery from there.
Use 3.x.x.x for Gingerbread based ROMs
Or 2.x.x.x for FroYo based ROMs.
Now you are ready to flash some ROMs!
I turned it on the second I unboxed it (being the impatient pr**k I am). Does that mean I need a new battery? Or is there a remedy?
If you are experiencing such huge battery drain, I think you should get it checked b'coz Even when on stock I never had that much problem.t
Lol..I did the same but did you let it discharge it completely before charging it again or charged it right away after playing with it a little ..
coz I switched mine on as soon as i bought it but let it drain before charging for about 10-12 hours for the first time...
Yea, need new battery.
(try charging battery for a long time, i dont know if it'll help, but it wont hurt to try - IF that doesnt work, then i strongly recommend a new battery)
I was going mad waiting 22hrs!!!, but that meant wayy better battery power!
Search google or something on how to use the battery properly. i've had many issues in the past with batteries, but after reading articles, my batteries last longer now
Not sure if I remember what I did after playing with it, the excitement was so great I forgot about anything and everything else that mattered at that time
Sweet, thanks heaps for your help guys. Will be calling HTC and my service provider today just to double check with them too and afterwards flashing. I'm thinking of going for RcMixHD as alot of people have only good things to say about that rom. Any thoughts or ideas?
Turns out I had 28 days from date of purchase to get it swapped on the spot if there were any issues with the handset. Today was the 28th day, how fortunate!
Anyway, had it replaced and its on charge now, wont be turning it on any time soon though
just some advice
hey just a few words of advice from someone that has done a lot of flashing on numerous phones with numerous software types.
i reccomend getting a few little apps;
1. Titanium Backup (for safety i only back up apps I install + data)
2. SMS Backup and Restore (specifically for backing up sms/mms and works across different roms and even handsets)
3. Faster Fix (just in case if your phone doesnt set gps pool correctly causing a delay in time for fix
and just generally its pretty straight forward how to flash different roms especially after you do it a few times. but i do reccoment patience and time, and you will be fine and if anything happens just ask, everyone ehre is happy to help
Regards

Started charging at 5pm yesterday and now its 1 30pm, think I'll take a nap before I get down to some serious flashing business. Thanks heaps for your help guys, some day I'll pay back in the form of experience and maybe add something to this community.

[Q] Best ROM for Skype?

Hi all
I'm so sick of switching ROMs on my EVO 4G!! My battery life seems to suck no matter which ROM I try. I've tested my battery; it's fine. What I'd like is to be able to use Skype (just chatting; rarely use voice on Skype) with my EVO and get more than 3 hours battery life. I don't use Skype constantly; just want to be able to use the phone for more than a few hours before it becomes a paperweight!
Right now, pretty much as soon as I log into Skype on the EVO the batt drops to 80% and continues to drop every 30 min or so. Forget web browsing or texting; that kills it so fast it's dead in 2 hours.
I'm running Deodexed 4.24.651.1 and have tried Cyanomod, Baked Snack, Stock rooted and they all suck for battery life with Skype.
Maybe I need a different kernel?
Any ideas???
Thanks in advance!

Maybe because it's Saturday. I'm surprised they haven't jumped on you for posting this in this section. None of the roms that are gingerbread will have the life you had on 2.2 unless the code gets released and the guys that make kernels can make new ones. Battery life on the roms vary but if it means alot you should try Calkulin's rom. He has an undervolting script built in that may work for you. If you flash a kernel from the 2.2 roms you might get better battery life but something will break in the rom, ie camera.
Awesome development work dude!!!!!! Cant wait to try it out. Where's the download link??
My first idea would be posting in the correct section, or, it sucks that Skype and battery life blow on this rom you developed.
Since that is over, are you wiping properly with a formatall.zip? Are you making sure to flash the correct kernels with the corresponding rom? Are you restoring any data with titanium backup?
Move this to the q&a and you will get the information you are looking for.

I thought you had to have 10 posts before you could post in the dev section?
simple answer - skype though awesome also sucks.
for example just think about a laptop. my 7 hr macbook pro dies in under 2 hrs when i'm video or phone chatting on skype... shouldn't the same be expected for a cell? you're getting 3 hours, albeit only chatting as you say, but skype has been and remains a highly demanding application which although is convenient and widely used IMO is poorly written considering it's cpu and battery drainage. compared to simple web based google chat w/ video I get far superior battery life. like i said, my opinion, my experience. and yes as mentioned, try undervolting or SBC kernels or both. My EVO has ranged from stock settings 5 hr life to deck's w/ tiamat sbc + vipermod approx 40 hours (the 40 was when it was honestly just idle most of the time, occasional call or text a little bit of browsing, i was sick so on laptop mostly- although typical moderate daily use I would still be above 20% before plug in before sleep)
as long as you mentioned it, anyone happen to know a stable skype apk with video that was pulled? i've tried different sources and a bunch of my usual roms and I either get only back camera for a little then crashing or front camera green fuzziness and crash instantly.
Why is it I needed like 10 posts to post here but this guy can ask questions like this with 6 posts? WTF?

First off, I apologize for this being here. I THOUGHT I was posting in the Q & A threads so please don't be snarky. I had the other thread open in another browser tab going back and forth looking for input. How it got accepted I don't know; as I said I thought it was going into the QA area. Sorry.
To altman, yes; I am doing a complete format/wipe and only restoring essentials via Titanium.
To 'crammed', try Tango; it's decent video chat, is free and is soon to be released for desktops too so cell to pc video chat will work. Tango is nice that it lets you utilize both front/rear facing cams (and did I mention it's free?). The big problem is trying to chat with folks who don't have cell access/unlimited minutes who need a desktop option like Skype, which is why I use it. With family in Poland and UK, Skype's the best way to stay connected for free for me but again, they don't have the same cellular access/plans so it's not possible to do cell to cell.
Thanks for the input
OP created his/her account before the 10 post restriction went into effect. The change was not retroactive.
tango is cool....i also use ClearSea...it's got the pc support so you can video chat between cell and pc...works pretty nice over 3g...
just an idea....
Decks 1.2.1 stable ROM in "advanced settings" in settings go to performance, go to VM heap set to 48
Savaged Zen 2.2.1 cfs SBC kernel
Battery calibration (market app) follow in app instructions
Setcpu (market app) my settings are 1152 Max 245 min savagedzen governor
Download rom manager and run fix permissions
Let it all sit 3 days, takes kernel that long to set and battery life gets better after a few full charges
I get great battery life. I get upwards of 20 hours easy and I use my phone heavily so, hopefully this will help
Next time please post your questions in the q and a section, dev is for someone who has something they have developed for the community to use. Thanks

You guys sound like he should be hanged for posting here. Lol people make mistakes, it isn't that big of an issue.
If battery life is an issue for you, you have a few options. You can jump to CM7 or Evo Deck and set them up properly. With either of those, you can flash a nice kernel and set clock speeds accordingly. Battery life is going to suck on any 2.3.3 Rom right now, because developers have no access to the source code for the kernel. HTC is taking their sweet time.
However, you can also look into extended batteries. I have a one I found on ebay for about $16, and it's wonderful. The phone has a little bulk now, but I am currently sitting at 16.25 hours off the charger, and I'm at 32%. This is also on Synergy currently, so there is no custom kernel or anything in use.
Just a few thoughts.

+1. It's easy to screw up when you've been up all night downloading and flashing the newest versions of your favorite ROMs or desperately seeking the answers you need. No need to grab your torches once the first 14 people have cried "wrong section" (most of whom then offer advice afterward, enabling much?)

I have a better question:
Why is it that someone felt it necessary to bump a post that clearly was ignored by everyone and put on the second or third page just to flame someone?
This thread went unnoticed with no replies for over an hour and yet someone felt that necessary.
That **** is just as bad as posting in the wrong section, if not worse.
i have been a member of this forum for about a year now. and as you can tell i have very few posts. The ones i do are simply to say thanks to someone who made an awesome rom/kernel/etc. I spend most of the time searching for the answers im looking for. perhaps if you looked in the right section and researched a bit before you continuously flashed your phone you would know what is going on with it.
gotta love people that just jump of the cliff because the guy in front of did...
Check out my sig, AOSP setup would probably help you with battery life. Current radios too

Can you elaborate on this a little? I don't necessarily wanna bump this thread, but being a Comp. Sci. major, this seems odd to me.. What does it mean for a kernel to 'set'?
Or are you talking about the collection of data for the accurate battery reading (batters stats)?

Thanks for the tip. I wasn't directing the 10 post mark at you btw, more at moderators/XDA in general. My first account was locked for "spamming" I presume to get 10 posts whereas I actually spent hours answering ppl's questions in the q & a but I guess the short time frame wasn't liked. But I digress, I'm not so in need for cell to cell as much as a nice universal cell to cell/desktop cross platform and unfortunately skype is the most popular. My girlfriend as well as many friends/relatives also don't have the latest phones so the cell to desktop is wanted. for now I'm just sticking to gtalk, with isn't without it's errors either.

... Kernel to set meaning it takes a bit for it to settle down to the way it will normally function, call it "breaking it in" or like how you gotta drive a car a few thousand miles before your performance and MPG are where the manufacturer claims itll be... Yeah I kinda like the second analogy, go me!
Frequent flashing or flashing too soon sort of doesn't give the rom or kernel a chance because they haven't stabilized, often why some people praise while at the same time others curse a rom/kernel. Myself included :/ yikes. I found that to be true when deck was held up on his updates for almost a week and my phone was amazing, but I updated and went back into the loop of constant flashing so keep that in mind, if you're set on giving s rom and kernel a shot, give it at least a few days of the kind of use you NORMALLY would. If you're playing with it all day and it dies don't call it shotty battery life until you keep it in your pocket most of the day during the week. Not trying to berate anyone, I've done these same things myself, patience is a virtue after all.

I DID research the ROMs extensively; that's why I'm frustrated. I've tried so many after reading about how great they are. I'm not saying they AREN'T great either, just not working where I live. There's no 4G coverage already and 3G is spotty. Even if I don't load Skype at all I can't get 8 hours off my EVO before it dies.
When you rely on your phone for business like I do, even without Skype at all, you gotta be able to get through a normal workday or the phone's a pretty paperweight and not much else. Right now, I HAVE to plug it in at work or it won't last 8 hours and that just sux.

Please Help.(Individually bizzare Problem...I think.) DHD

Hello all,
I made this thread in hopes of getting an explanation and maybe a bit of guidance to my problem. My problem is that my Desire HD(T-Mobile UK) crashes all the time. I have had this phone for just over a year, and had it rooted for the past 8 months with little problem, however only recently, in the past 3-4 months it would just turn off at random points and then need restarting. It has not made a difference what ROM I have had, whether it was Cyanogen, Android Revolution, RCMix3d, ClearDroid, or MIUI, after a few days of having the new ROM it would crash throughout the day, with any amount of battery on it. I followed the most respected guides put on this site, and still it made no difference.
At first I thought it was the way I'd been flashing my ROM's, so as I have never been able to get HTC Sync to recognize my phone, I re-flashed a fresh stock 1.32 and then manually installed the ADB Drivers, the phones USB Drivers, and rooted the phone with Visionary+ all over again. This made no difference.
So then I moved on to thinking it was my Battery, so I bought a new battery and that made no difference either. This made me assume it is a software issue.
I then began thinking that it could be the Overclock/Undervolt settings, even though I hadn't touched them, I thought it might fix my phone if I made the minimum it could reach 350+mhz instead of 280+mhz, thus keeping the phone running at a faster speed and not crash. But this made no difference either.
The only thing I have been able to do has been to flash the 1.32 Stock and that seems to get it working, battery drains a bit quicker but doesn't die while still saying 55% left. I have also tried charging the phone til 100% using Elixir's mA widget, deleting the battery stats file(re calibrating the battery), and letting it reach 0 and charging again. But no luck.
If you have any advice I will gladly listen, I'm baffled as to what has happened, and am not sure what to do next.
Apologies as well if this thread is posted in the wrong section, I am quite new with this site.
Thank you very much in advance guys.

Oh bumsicles.

Battery draining faster than b4

Ok I know this question has been asked so many times but I have searched and read and read and then read some more but I can't find a real answer. I used to go more than 4 days on a single charge with minimal phone usage but then I updated to 4.2.2 (kk) and noticed a significant amount of loss in battery life. A couple of days later, the batt was back to normal however I got another update (whatever the hell that was supposed to do) and since then (a couple of weeks now) my phone barely lasts 2 days with barely even making one phone call. When I check the batt. usage I don't see anything that's more than 25%. (Cell standby for example is 23%). Anything I can do?
Also, after the update, the sidebar thing (I'm not sure if that's what it's called but it's the menu you get when you press and hold the return button) is no longer there. What happened to it?

Spoken to samsung/your carrier about their update? (assuming you're using stock)
Tried another battery?
There simply isn't any reason or excuse for creating yet another battery usage topic. What anybody will say here has already been said and discussed. You can also just reply to one of those topics. We do not need another as it just adds to the already diluted forums.

Hello there, here I am to help you out, not to tell you off or scold you. Hope no one banned me for this jaja. well so let's begining. I found something interesting concerning to battery draining starting from kitkat. The first one is "media scanner" it drains a lot of battery, so if you use dr ketang you can handle this, or if you don't want to use dr ketang just install his apk + security settings -obviously rooted device- (to get it working good - available in playstore too) and there you got something good. My next step is just research for android system usage, that is high on kitkat custom sammy roms, don't think this happens on the aosp (not sure). so I hope this is useful for you. :highfive:

No thanks for the no help. No one twisted your hand to reply. Like they say, if you have nothing good to say, then don't say nothing at all. But if you bothered to read, there's was another part to my question that was NOT related to the battery draining thing. You guys think it's being smart when you parrot the same words.

Thanks austtin. I don't really know anything about that ketang thing. No my phone isn't rooted. But thanks anyway. At least you tried instead of being rude like the guy above.

I did have something good to say, I told you how to post correctly and search instead of just diluting forum with your duplicate posts/questions. You will get your answer more quickly by actually reading instead of creating duplicate posts and waiting to be spoon fed.

No, we find it annoying when newbies create duplicate topics/questions and "parrot same words".

Okay good, can you give us the propper direct link to it, because we're facing the battery draining too. Searching through xda I didn't found anything, so if you know where's the thread we'll be glad. But remember this: NO ONE'S BORN KNOWING EVERYTHING. Bye felicia

Poor battery life...

Hello,
The battery life of my Z1 compact is very low. This only started the last month or so.
Are there things I can do to improve it?
I have been thinking of putting another rom on it, but not used to this anymore. A few years ago I did a lot (with my HTC Hero), but at the moment I don't have time to do this regularly (read: I was single on those days ). I can remember that there was an option in the recovery to whipe the battery stats, so maybe this can help me.
Then, is there a light yet stable rom out there?
Maybe you can give me also some guides on how to start with this: rooting, replacing recovery image and flashing a custom Rom.
Anyways thanks for your help.
Sorry if I made some mistakes, English is not my native language.
Bart.
This additional info can maybe useful:
Currently I am on Android 5.1.1 Build 14.6.A.0.368 ...
Most people have noticed that battery life on LP is generally a little worse than on KK, but usually stock rom battery life is pretty good, so if it's just getting worse suddenly, you might want to try an update, (.368 is not the newest fw), or maybe some changes you made are draIning the battery, or maybe the battery is old and needs to be replaced. Most custom roms are fine as far as battery drain goes, but most are not better than stock, so probably not a solution to the issue. Have you been using any battery - saving options, (stamina, Greenify, etc.)?
Are you using Pocket (readitlater)?
The new version of the app sucks alot of battery... =(

I have seen that there's a newer update (14.6.A.1.236). The problem with this is, when I try the update, the phone says there's no update for the phone. Is there a way to force the update?

I have been looking and found some local repair center, which can do it.
While it is still under waranty, I don't want to send it to Sony, as I expect to lose the phone for more than 3 weeks???
Anyways, big thanks for all your replies!

I found it pretty easy to replace the battery myself, but that will void the warranty so you might not want to do that if there is still significant time left to run on the warranty.

Is there some good description on how to do it yourself? Because I have no clue on how to even start with it?

I'm pretty sure there are instructions in that thread, but otherwise there are various videos such as this one:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/son...l/best-stable-rom-battery-life-daily-t3367431
This is how i get most juice out of this xperia. 2 years old battery shouldn't have degraded more than 10%
I should have posted this. I have found some useful info about changing the battery (mainly youtube), and I already ordered a new battery and adhesive for the back cover.
Another question I posted earlier: is there a way to force update to version .1.236
