Back button defective? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hi all,
Not sure if anyone is having the same issue I'm having. When I hit the back capacitive button once, 30% of the time it'll register 2 backs with 2 vibrations. It gets kinda annoying cause sometimes it'll get you out of an app if you it back twice. I called Samsung tech support and they told me it's a software issue and they can fix it out I pay$49.99. Their tech will remote access my phone and fix it on the spot. I just don't understand why I have to pay since my phone is still under warranty. I had this issue since my phone was brand new and stock but didn't complain cause I didn't think it would bother me but now it's getting annoying. Anyone had this same issue, and knows how to fix it?
Thanks in advance!

HELP! Capacitive Back Button keeps activating on its own

I'm sure this is a common issue and I've already done a search, but did not see any resolution for this? Anyone know of a fix?
The capacitive back button keeps going off on its own, non-stop, and I'm not able to use the phone whatsoever.
I've done a nandroid restore and it's still happening. Also the fact that it is happening while in CWM makes me think it's hardware related.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

If it happens on stock then its hardware related... if you have insurance take it to sprint and they will fix/replace...

Unfortunately, I don't have insurance and it's already over a year old.
Even without going back to stock, I'm sure it's hardware related because right when I turn it on, the Samsung Screen and Capacitive lights come on, and the back button is blinking.
Mine rarely does this sometimes, if I have the keyboard out. I think its a connection issue somewhere, but its so rare, I just deal with it. Besides, I'm gonna get an upgrade in late June early July. Why bother?

went to sprint did theyre tests did find any major issues but still having problem with power button. ordered me new battery if that dosent work will have to replace with a referb
This seems to be an issue with these devices. I have one that just started after switching to FF11. I don't think it is rom related as I have seen people with EL29 start to have the same issue. From search it seems that this issue is something to do with a faulty power switch. Your button will physically still click but you have to fiddle with it at times for it to work at all. It causes the phone to randomly reboot as well as the phone come on immediately after removing the battery. Sprint will think it's a software issue due to the screen sometimes flickering but it's a faulty switch.
I wonder how many more of these devices will have this issue. These devices are still under the manufacturer 1 year warranty so if you go through Samsung I think they will have no problem fixing it or pay sprint for a replacement.
I believe this is hardware failure of the power button as I have switched between roms and nothing has worked.

I think mine has the same problem. Sometimes it will just turn itself off.
I had the same problem a few months ago and then i jigged it and then it came back just today. Maybe i have been delaying the inevitable and just go get it serviced.

GT-N5110 Sleep of Death

Hello! Just got my note and am having a major problem with SOD while running stock 4.2.2.
Since I only just received this not sure if this was an issue with previous firmware. What happens is I will just leave the tablet and come back and it won't turn on with power or home buttons. Happens pretty frequently. Thought I'd had something to do with the magnets in my case but it does this even out of the case. The only way to power it back on is to do the long-press reset of the power button.
Also when this happens the tablet won't charge either even though it's plugged in.
Searched all over the web for this and could not find anyone suffering anything similar on the stock android firmware.
Can anyone help me? Beyond this issue this is a wonderful tablet.

[Q] Brand New Note 3 problem

Hi guys, I have a weird problem and I need your advice.
My brand new galaxy Note 3 Sm-N900T is having screen blackouts....
Its like after the screen timeout the screen goes off and then when I press the power button it doesn't go back on again.
Or if I turn the screen off it doesn't go back on again... the buttons are working the sounds are on, I can answer calls and everything but the screen is black.
If I play with it (pressing power or home buttons) for a while it comes back on. Sometimes the phone restarts (rarely, I think because i press power button).
I have tried everything from playing with settings to wiping the cache and resetting the phone few times.
It looks like its a software issue to me, or maybe sensor.. but i think that when power button is pressed the screen should turn on regardless of sensors.
I do have the custom S-Case but I had the issue even before I got that.
Now.. I have few choices :
1. Go to t-Mobile and get a replacement.. probably refurbished, not a fact that the problem will away because I heard of lots of people having this issue ...
I of course do not want to do that.. I have this phone for less than a month.
2. Wait for KitKat....
3. install some kind of custom rom and see if problem goes away.
If anyone can help, Id really appreciate it.
I would do an exchange.. you paid good money for it and a defect is a defect, I wouldn't depend on a 3rd party patch for this

go to the store for change this defective note.
This may be jelly bean bug... Lots and lots of people report the same problem...
If I replace my piece I will probably get a refurbished one with a great chance of having this or some kind of another problem......

sucks man.
I know on my htc onei have the purple camera problem but everything else was fine. they had to send me 2 replacements because the first one had a yellow screen and worse camera then mines.
Tmobile doesnt even check there replacement. Most of the time there phones that people traded in. And all they do with those is a power on check.
Now if you just got the phone and within the 14 exchange you can take it to the store and get a brand new one.
Had it for more than 2 weeks now.. since i was always playing with it i did not notice the problem .. (the screen was always on).
I called Samsung and Tmobile. I told tmobile that samsung said i have a defective phone. so Tmobile is sending me a "Like new" phone meaning that someone returned it within 14 days. I get to check it and if i dont like it i will just send them their phone back. and suddenly mine doesnt do the problem for 30 minutes lol.. maybe it got scared. Personally i think that KitKat would fix it.
Any force closes? I had this problem too untill I stopped using the crapy My Magazine bloatware, which was also sometimes force closing...
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
No, no force closes, but one time it was funny, a little bit of status bar appeared from the bottom and on top it was a little bit cutoff.... like someone slid the screen up few pixels.
And whatever was cut just came from the bottom. Its weird... for $700 phone it should be flawless... I hope they dont send me crap phone and i hope they dont send my phone to someone else.
How can i get rid of it to see if that was the problem?
My phone works perfect and I had if since the first week they came out. .. It's not a jellybean thing you phone has a problem. ..

I figured id try to reflash (not data reset, but reflash via Kies) so far so good no problem.
The whole thing looks like soft prob, not hard.
If it comes back Ill let you know. This could be a nice fix if works.
I'm in nyc, and my local store called the warrenty center and got me a brand new SGS2 one time. It still had all the blue plastic in the sim card and sd card slots, and plastic on the screen. So I'm know they can request it, just depends on your store if they are willing.

My sgs2 had problems out of the box. After I installed custom ROM they went away. It does happen. Restored stock via Odin, still no problems. Sometimes the software doesn't flash correctly from the manufacturer.

Well, I dont know what to think anymore... Looks like the problem persists but happens so rare that without the past I wouldnt notice it.
This makes me believe that with KitKat it will probably disappear. If soft changes cause this to go away or be less it means (to me) that the phone is not defective. New phone is still on the way, to bad I did not purchase it at local store... I did it online, so there is no one to yell at.
It will arrive on Feb 6th so I have plenty of time to test my phone, with some luck KitKat will roll out during this time and then I will be able to definitely see. And if new phone is cool I have the option of exchange anyway .
Thank you all for your help, keep posting, its an interesting issue.
:/
Phone went worse and worse everyday ... now the S-Pen "Air Command" doesnt pop up, several weird disfunctions...
Waiting for the replacement.

Haptic feedback broken?

My haptic feedback, and vibrate in general appears to be broken.
I noticed the haptic was gone from the keyboard, and it was turned on in there 'Sounds' menu.
Running the Vibration test from a Diagnostics results in nothing, Failed.
I have rebooted and it's made no difference.
Anyone else noticed a lack of Haptic, or is it back to the shop with it?

Ah, if I shake the phone it starters working again.
This has happened once, hopefully I can make it happen again, so I can return the phone maybe?
I think perhaps the vibration motor gets stuck.

Hi! It was me posting in the sonymobile forum. Do you guys know whats wrong? feels like it could be a software problem...or the touchscreen dont register... What do you think?
I think it's a hardware problem.. As you're saying it is working when you shake it.. So I would recommend you to take it to the service center.. You should get a replacement as it is a defected piece or some hardware malfunction..

Not sure how I can take it to a service centre. There are none that I can find.
Back to the shop, I suppose, but I can't make the problem happen at will
Anyone got a cast iron method of making the haptic go off?

My z1 compacts vibration stopped working when I was texting and would start working again when shaken. I took it into phones4u (my retailer) and wrote a text in front of them until it stopped. They gave me a new handset which so far has had no problems after a week. Hope you can get yours replaced or repaired!
Try searching the service center on their official website or try contacting them using their helpline no.
If not flash your phone with a latest ftf which is available.. It might help you out..
Revert back for more info..
Hit Thanks if I helped you

I can't make it happen again. Perhaps it won't. If I can't demo the problem I've got no chance.
On the other hand, if it never happens again, *shrug*
Worse, would be if it starts happening regularly a month or more down the line. That'd be more of a problem.

A-ha.
I can recreate it in a few seconds by texting in landscape mode.
Which I never do.
But... It serves to demonstrate the fault.
So, I'm going back to CPW tomorrow with it.
I really hope they let me refund and get a Z1 instead of a compact. The production faults with this handset seem to be growing, even though I actually do prefer the form factor.

You say that like it is easy, but as far as I know there are no Sony Mobile Xperia service centres in the UK, and even if there is one that I haven't been able to find online, it'll be hundreds of miles away.
'Take it to a service center' is just not an option.
It's going back to the shop tomorrow and I'm going to try and get them to refund and I'll get a Z1 instead. If they won't (they don't have to) then I'll check the replacement handset very closely in the shop for the same problems I have on mine (loose screen, stuck vibro motor, flash bleed).
I demonstrated the fault to the salesman who'd never heard of the problem before.
They showed me another handset upon which I created the fault again. Even the diagnostics won't turn on the vibro. Weird.
They had no more Z1C to give me, so I got a Z1 instead.
So now, I have no Z1C any more, but a brand new and so far fully functional Z1

I'm having the same issue with mine, consistently since buying it. Vibrate stops working after typing a few characters, and then the phone won't vibrate for notifications either. if I leave it alone for a while, it will work again, until I type and then it kind of "fades" away to not working again. Shaking it does seem to get it working again, if only for a second or two.
Problem is I bought the phone on Amazon, and there are no service places even remotely near me. I kept the phone hoping the update would fix.. and when it didn't, I was hoping a fix would be released.. but no. I guess I'll send them an email.
My wife's Z1C had the same issue with haptic feedback, but also the sound would cut out at the same time. Indeed, giving the phone a wack would start both sound and vibrations working again. But finally it never turned back on, so had to RMA it....
