[Q]Gaining S-OFF again, after flashing a RUU. - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
About a year ago, I rooted and S-OFF’ed my HTC Desire HD. I ran a lot of custom ROMs and was very excited about custom ROMs. About a week ago, my volume button came off. I wanted to return it to HTC, so I downloaded a RUU and installed it. I couldn’t get it to become S-ON again, so I decided to fix the volume button by myself (it’s completely working again, thanks to glue ).
Now I have the stock software version 2.50.405.2 with Android 2.3.3. My bootloader gives the following information:
Code:
ACE PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-0.85.0024
MICROP-0438
RADIO-26.09.04.11_M2
eMMC-boot

So, in a weird way it seems to be S-OFF, but I can’t flash a custom recovery. I’ve been trying to root my Desire HD for about 6 hours now, and I really can’t get it to do what I want it to do. I tried it with AMT ( forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1037315 ), and SuperOneClick. But everytime I try to use GingerBreak V1.20, it keeps hanging on the screen where it tells me to wait. I let it turned on and running for about an hour, but it doesn’t work. (Before the Desire HD can be downgraded , I have to root it first. As far as I know.)
This is what I think is happening: The bootloader has to be ENG S-OFF, instead of SHIP S-OFF. But to achieve that, I need to downgrade, and before I can downgrade, I need root acces.
Am I doing something wrong?
I searched everything, and I can’t find it. If I missed something, my apologies.
Can someone help me to restore ENG S-OFF (so that I can install a custom recovery and run custom ROMs), after being S-OFF and flashing a RUU?
Thank you very much in advance!
If I didn’t supply enough information, please tell me, and I’ll give it.
I'm getting pretty desperate, as everything I try fails. I hope someone in this awesome comunity can help me.
Kind regards, Tom.

You merely need to fastboot flash a recovery.img. Instructions are part of post #7 in the link in my signature.

Thanks for your reply!
I thought that I posted a reply a couple days ago, but it seems not to be placed. I might failed to press the "post" button.
It's fixed now, I flashed an ENG S-OFF HBOOT (forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1248608). Now, I can flash as much ROMs as my DHD can!

i can boot to ClockWork Mod and i can install any custom ROM and the installation finished successfully and then the device is getting stuck in HTC logo screen.
is there any solution or idea to get "S-Off"?
have you tryed following this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=964996
This might have been your case:
...
"Do NOT attempt to downgrade a Inspire or DHD shipped with Gingerbread with a Froyo RUU.
Do NOT attempt to install the ENG HBOOTs on these models.
Doing this WILL severely degrade bootloader performance on Inspires (and likely DHDs) and causes issues trying to install RUUs. In other words, it WILL jam you up. (Note: Issue now confirmed on later DHDs - ignore at your own risk)."
...
Get on the irc channel specified in the AAHK thread and ask for help there.
The guys there are really helpful.

[Q] How do I perm root and get s-off?

First off, I am a noob, but I have worked for hours trying to get my phone to S-OFF and i'm getting tired of all the methods I've seen and my phone not allowing them. So please, no hate for saying you're a noob don't bother rooting, because I'm still determined.
I have followed the HTCdev's guide to unlocking your bootloader. It then successfully got unlocked, and SuperUser even installed onto my phone, I can load up superuser just fine and I've also got ROM Manager. I tried downloading the CyanogenMod File, and it worked. Then I tried flashing the ClockwordModRecovery, it said it was succesfully, however, when I went in to boot my ROM it came up with a red triangle, and said the custom recovery wasn't working.
I then checked my phone to see if it was S-OFF but it wasn't.
Currently my phone details are:
Android Version: 2.3.3
HTC Sense Version: 2.1
and when I go into recovery these are the details displayed:
**** UNLOCKED ****
VISION PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-085.0015
MICROP-0425
RADIO-26.10.04.03_M
eMMC-boot

PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS.
I would like a suitable method to root my phone which isn't too complicated.
I'm willing to reset to factory settings if needs be.
Thank you very much.
This is the best, most reliable, and most supported way to get s-off on the G2/DZ.
Unlocked bootloader (which HTC Unlock gives you) and S-Off are not the same thing.
If you want S-Off, you still need to downgrade, then root and run gfree the "old" Wiki method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1453066
You can still flash the recovery and flash custom ROMs without S-Off, but you have to do it through fastboot, which is also explained in the link I just gave. If you did not use fastboot to flash clockwork, then I would assume this is why you are getting the red exclamation (stock recovery).

Trouble unrooting my HTC Evo

I've been having a lot of trouble unrooting my HTC Evo. I've worked through a lot of the methods I've found posted but nothing has worked. I could really use some help.
The phone was rooted about a year ago. I rooted the phone, but never flashed a different version. It's been on the original rooted version since it was done.
I'm currently running Android 2.3.3
I've got Superuser installed with Clockwork Mod for Recovery
This is what I have done so far.
I downloaded the unrevoked S-On tool and ran it. It didn't work and or didn't change to S-on I tried it at least a dozen times and kept getting an error.
I then ran a different version of the radio because it was recommended and It Did Work.
I then tried Unrevoked S-On again and it still wouldn't work.
I then saw a thread that said to flash the PC36IMG and it would then change the S to On after I did it. I couldn't get the PC36IMG to flash I kept getting an error on that.
I've looked all over for a possible solution and haven't been able to find one. The phone is having some technical issues with the screen and I need to take it back in to Sprint to have it repaired or switched out. If someone could help me I really appreciate it. I don't know if I posted this in the right place, this is my first post.
My root info is:
Revolutionary
Supersonic EVT3 Ship S-OFF
Microp-041f
Touch Panel-ATMEL224_16ab

I really could use some help. Let me know if you need any more information.
Thanks in advance for all your help,
Matt
Try this
I am on HBoot 2.18, so you may or may not have to do this. I was on Decksreloaded and could not unroot to take the phone in to sprint. I had to flash a sence rom, follow the unroot instructions, then flash an unrooted stock rom. It would not work with decks on the phone. Not sure why that mattered, but it did.
It worked. Thanks for all your help!
Thanks for all your help!

[Q] Deeply confused by unbrick attempt - can anyone help ?

Hi All,
Apologies in advance... I'm a noob.
Well for a long time I was a happy camper running the excellent Marange MIUI ROMs on my HTC desire (which had been replaced by a PVT4 motherboard version). This was S-OFF and running HBOOT 0.93... but then one day a couple of months ago I got into a boot loop where all I got was the MIUI boot logo... not really a loop more just stuck at the logo.
So I tried several clueless attempts to reimage using the TeamWin TWRP boot loader... but nothing I did worked. So after several failed RUU attempts and random PB99IMG boots and one successful run of:
RUU_Bravo_Telstra_WWE_1.15.841.14_R4_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_123851
I had what I imagined was a stock phone running an ancient Telstra release (it is a Telstra branded phone - the other world wide English RUUs refused to recognise the phone - 130 error).
I tried re-flashing the baseband radio, ClockworkMod v2.5.0.7 Recovery and MIUI... and wound up back to square one stuck in the MIUI logo and the RUU I used to get back to stock is now refusing to do anything) and this time I noticed my phone reports:
BRAVO UNKNOWN SHIP S-ON
HBOOT 0.75.0000
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYMT0101
RADIO-5.17.05.23
Mar 5 2010, 21:12:15
So somehow my PVT4 S-OFF 0.93 changed to the above. Which I don't understand... I thought that only a Goldcard could do something like that. None of the recovery tools seem to want to deal with HBOOT 0.75 and the fact that I'm S-ON would appear to be a pain.
The other thing that really confuses me is that how come if the phone is S-ON it lets me wipe everything and install the latest Marange MIUI ROMs ? Surely if it's S-ON then these would have to be signed (maybe they are for all I know).
Finally, if I use adb when the phone is stuck in it's MIUI boot logo I'm amazed I can get a root shell.
Anyone got any advice on how my phone got into such a mess, how to fix HBOOT and get a decent ROM running again ?
Any help hugely appreciated. The more detail the better.
Many AtDhVaAnNkCsE
Cheers,
Doug

How where you s-off, with hboot 0.93? Alpharev hboots have 6.93 etc.
Anyways, did you try the 2.3 RUU? Check my sig.
You can flash roms with s-on, but you can't change recovery.

To be honest I couldn't quite remember the state of my HBOOT I just new that it had been newer than 0.75, possibly 0.80, and that I had S-OFF and PVT4.
Your suggestion worked perfectly! I ran the RUU without issue to upgrade to 2.3 which gave me a new 1.x HBOOT and then I ran revolutionary and was then able to install MIUI. Smooth as...
Thank you so much!
I find the howto guides out there have lots of how but not too much why. I like detail on why things work or don't. Like why did that RUU work when so many others I tried didn't... did HTC make RUU 2.3 more forgiving in it's identification of supported phones ?
Anyway, once again many thanks for your kind help.
Cheers,
Doug

[Q] Red Triangle Screen - rooted device

Sorry if this has been asked, i just cant seem to find the answer.
24 hours ago i finally decided to root my device. Used HTCDev to unlock bootloader. Used "Unlockroot" to root the device (2.3.5)
So now i was ready to go (or so i thought) installed and ran ROM MANAGER, then manually pushed Blackout_ICS onto the SD card.
Every time the device boots into Recovery i get the same problem regardless of what i have tried.....Red Triangle Screen. Nothing happens beyond this.
I'm open to ideas...this is really frustrating me. If you can fix this then...you da man!

solved
Just solved this one. Turns out the HTCDev unlock is junk. So if your having this problem then what you will need to do is relock the bootloader and go across and run the AHHK setup. Its much easier then i thought.
for others who made the mistake dont settle for anything below s-off
