First off, I am a noob, but I have worked for hours trying to get my phone to S-OFF and i'm getting tired of all the methods I've seen and my phone not allowing them. So please, no hate for saying you're a noob don't bother rooting, because I'm still determined.
I have followed the HTCdev's guide to unlocking your bootloader. It then successfully got unlocked, and SuperUser even installed onto my phone, I can load up superuser just fine and I've also got ROM Manager. I tried downloading the CyanogenMod File, and it worked. Then I tried flashing the ClockwordModRecovery, it said it was succesfully, however, when I went in to boot my ROM it came up with a red triangle, and said the custom recovery wasn't working.
I then checked my phone to see if it was S-OFF but it wasn't.
Currently my phone details are:
Android Version: 2.3.3
HTC Sense Version: 2.1
and when I go into recovery these are the details displayed:
**** UNLOCKED ****

PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS.
I would like a suitable method to root my phone which isn't too complicated.
I'm willing to reset to factory settings if needs be.
Thank you very much.
This is the best, most reliable, and most supported way to get s-off on the G2/DZ.
Unlocked bootloader (which HTC Unlock gives you) and S-Off are not the same thing.
If you want S-Off, you still need to downgrade, then root and run gfree the "old" Wiki method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1453066
You can still flash the recovery and flash custom ROMs without S-Off, but you have to do it through fastboot, which is also explained in the link I just gave. If you did not use fastboot to flash clockwork, then I would assume this is why you are getting the red exclamation (stock recovery).

i rooted via unrevoked 3.2.1 and now i need to unroot to return the phone... i downloaded the new RUU but i need to turn S-on first right? i keep flashing the s-on tool and it says it installs correctly but the next time i boot it up it still says s-off. i flashed it like 35 times and it keeps saying s-off, why isnt it working? Please help... time is of the essence.
That is easy. What boot loader are you using? If it is an engineering boot, like the one Needed for cyanogenmod, it will always say s-off. Just flash s-on a few times and then use the ruu. Boot into boot loader after to make sure s is on. Should Be as simple as that.

I have been in knowledgeable of root since the Droid Eris and I rooted my past Incredible perfectly fine but it had an AMOLED screen so it was no biggie, so I'm really no noob. Just need really detailed advice lol.
I tried to root my Droid Incredible with unrevoked 3.22 and flash the custom recovery 5.0.2.0 but it failed like many others. It would say my firmware was too new. So I decided to downgrade with a PB31IMG of 2.2 but now I'm at a constant boot loop with the HTC Quietly Brilliant and the Droid bootanimation and cant get past that. I tried to flash the latest OTA from ---> http://pvillecomp.com/?page_id=22 <--- and it didn't flash because it said it was too old. I'm just tryin to root my Incredible. I need to use my phone. Somebody please help asap! I just bought the phone and I'm not done paying it off from someone. Or if I can get a PB31IMG file of the 6.20.2012 update. Much appreciated.
It doesnt matter if its stock, I just want it to turn on.
I have used the method I used on my old incredible from here ---> http://mobile-overload.com/topic/18-how-to-rootdowngrades-off-234/ <--- so my laptop is already ready for hacking.
EDIT: I can't get passed bootanimation bc I flashed old software through bootloader
Problem SOLVED. Read posts below if you have the same problem, it works.

Use the htcdev site to unlock your bootloader. Then you can fastboot flash cwm recovery, and then flash su thru recovery, and your rooted. Getting s-off takes a couple more steps if you want it. You can follow one of these guides.

It is all done thru fastboot, while in hboot. Just skip the ruu part of the htcdev instructions, as you already have an unlockable bootloader.

Alright. My device won't show up and it doesn't install drivers....so I'm just going to install the drivers in the instructions.....once I remember how lol
EDIT: Didn't need to download drivers. My usb cable didnt read my phone through fastboot but i switched it with another and now it does. I didn't know there was a proceed button on the HTCdev website lol I wondered where the "step # through # came from. I think I may have it from here. Ill update.
EDIT2: I'm at the point where Im re-writing the misc image but when I type "adb devices" in the command prompt it doesn't see my device it says "adb devices listed and nothing shows up. What could I do? I'm so close to rooting this thing. I set it up before when I rooted my old Amoled Incredible and don't think ive changed anything, it shouldve showed up. Please help.

EDIT3: I flashed 2.3.4 pb31img bc i needed a rom to have adb working & to recognize my device. After that it was a breeze. I now have a rooted slcd incredible [SOLVED]
Hello,
About a year ago, I rooted and S-OFF’ed my HTC Desire HD. I ran a lot of custom ROMs and was very excited about custom ROMs. About a week ago, my volume button came off. I wanted to return it to HTC, so I downloaded a RUU and installed it. I couldn’t get it to become S-ON again, so I decided to fix the volume button by myself (it’s completely working again, thanks to glue ).
Now I have the stock software version 2.50.405.2 with Android 2.3.3. My bootloader gives the following information:
Code:
ACE PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-0.85.0024
MICROP-0438

So, in a weird way it seems to be S-OFF, but I can’t flash a custom recovery. I’ve been trying to root my Desire HD for about 6 hours now, and I really can’t get it to do what I want it to do. I tried it with AMT ( forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1037315 ), and SuperOneClick. But everytime I try to use GingerBreak V1.20, it keeps hanging on the screen where it tells me to wait. I let it turned on and running for about an hour, but it doesn’t work. (Before the Desire HD can be downgraded , I have to root it first. As far as I know.)
This is what I think is happening: The bootloader has to be ENG S-OFF, instead of SHIP S-OFF. But to achieve that, I need to downgrade, and before I can downgrade, I need root acces.
Am I doing something wrong?
I searched everything, and I can’t find it. If I missed something, my apologies.
Can someone help me to restore ENG S-OFF (so that I can install a custom recovery and run custom ROMs), after being S-OFF and flashing a RUU?
Thank you very much in advance!
If I didn’t supply enough information, please tell me, and I’ll give it.
I'm getting pretty desperate, as everything I try fails. I hope someone in this awesome comunity can help me.
Kind regards, Tom.
You merely need to fastboot flash a recovery.img. Instructions are part of post #7 in the link in my signature.
Thanks for your reply!
I thought that I posted a reply a couple days ago, but it seems not to be placed. I might failed to press the "post" button.
It's fixed now, I flashed an ENG S-OFF HBOOT (forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1248608). Now, I can flash as much ROMs as my DHD can!
Hi XDA-devs,
I have a HTC Desire HD from Telus. I've hit a dead end after hours of searching, trying to no avail. I have seen similar attempts by others on the forums who have had a degree of success, but they also come from other paths.
I WAS running Clockwork Mod, with Cyanogenmod 7.2.0 and was attempting to bring my phone back to original Telus stock.
I was following this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1731324
I had downloaded the RUU EXE from that thread and ran it in administrator and like many people before me, the RUU could not detect my phone, I had tried installing HTC Sync, still no effect.
So like someone had suggested on that thread, that I extracted the ROM from the RUU, by using this method:
https://sites.google.com/site/androidbyyorzua/home/tutorials/extracting-rom-files-from-htc-ruu
I went to recovery, and tried to install that ZIP. it said. E:Can't open /sdcard/rom.zip (bad)
Assuming I had chosen the wrong option. So then I went to look how to FLASH the ROM. Searching I found the ULTIMATE ACE GUIDE on here: (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30020025&postcount=7)
Followed it's steps starting on Page 5. So far I only completed steps 1-7 which include Formatting Data/Wiping Cache and Formatting System. haven't actually installed anything new yet.
Upon rebooting, I got stuck on the White HTC Boot Screen, Pressing Vol-down + Power does not do anything, Pulling the battery just repeats this symptom.
Fortunately, I used ADB, and managed to get it back to HBOOT and eventualy back to Clockwork Mod Recovery. So as far as I know I'm not yet Bricked, but still need a good ROM to properly install.
Things you may ask me:
Clockwork Mod v5.0.2.0
My SD is goldcarded.
Obviously my Phone has been Rooted Before.
The Rom I was trying to install is: "RUU_Ace_Sense30_S_HTC_WWE_3.12.405.1_Radio_12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M_release_225512_signed.exe"
Update: I just reloaded Cyanogenmod 7.2.0 back on, so again, my phone is fine, it's simply a matter of finding a Telus Stock Rom that I can install via ZIP.
I cannot help in RUUs, but if you want Sense 3 you should really give a try for Android Revolution HD 9.0, that's a great ROM for that and doesn't have much changes in look compared to stock.
What's the point in all these RUU's and steps to extracting the ROM from it if they don't do anything ;P?
Are you S-Off or S-On? Is your bootloader relocked? What does hboot say?

Is there any other information I need to provide?
Long story short.....
Ive had my DHD for about 2 years now and have flashed the crap out of it without any issues.
My DHD is non branded, and Ive never had an issue with it.
I bought the Wife a DHD with Stock Rom, S-ON locked Bootloader etc. Locked to Orange UK
Ive scoured the XDA forums for an answer but unable to find it. Although I found Soooooooo many post with dead links or incomplete / Not working information etc.
I have used the HTCDev site to unlock the bootloader now, and also installed CWM and managed to install a Stock-rooted Rom.
SU works etc so I know I have root.
Problem is that I cannot get S-OFF at all nor Install my Favorite DHD Rom, SVHD.

Recovery = Clockworkmod v5.8.1.5
Android Version = 2.3.5
Sense = 3.0
Software = 3.12.405.1_rooted_by_nitr00
So, Ive tried Easy S-OFF and all I get is "Unknown Error"
Ive tried to install the same ROM that I have on MY DHD and it gets stuck at the HTC White logo screen.
Question is, how come the SVHD Rom wont run once installed, and how can I get S-OFF !
Any info would be a Huge help...

Did you forgot to flash boot.img? Being s-on and unlocked require you to do that every time you flash new custom rom. The boot.img can be found in the rom zip file.

Yes, because unlocked bootloader with s-on does not allow you to alter boot partition through recovery. From your post, you said you are using easy s-off. If im not mistaken, that tools cannot be used on bootloader v2 (new bootloader). The only way is by using aahk2 which can be found in general section. Im not sure whether u need to flash a ruu in order to use that tool. It is better for you to ask in that thread.

Actually found a way to do it via Terminal on the phone.
Ill see if I can find the link I used.
