Okay, so I have a strange dilemma. I am currently using GB08 Stock Rooted of the ROM. Last week I was using my phone when suddenly my phone rebooted by itself, at first I thought it was an app crashing or something normal which happens to all of us so I restarted it. Strangely, on the bottom left hand corner displayed a text box saying "SAFE MODE", to my knowledge I had this on my original Epic 4G and the solution for me was to restart the device, but it didn't go away. In addition all my apps were gone and the volume down button seemed to malfunction when turning the music down. As a solution I tried to ODIN GB08 (strangely the volume down button works when trying to get to Download Mode), but the volume up button doesn't work even though it does work when I boot it into "Safe Mode". I tried to use Mobile Odin but it the device won't allow me to use apps other than those that were pre-installed into the device. I tried taking out the battery and waiting up to 10 minutes and restarted it but no luck, so I want to know if any of you guys know how to fix this?
:crying:
I had this issue happen about a month ago. The volume down key is sticking.
You need to take the phone apart and clean it up. Repeatedly press the volume rockers until you feel that it is back to normal. Then put the phone back together and put the battery back in.

Here's a screenshot showing what happens when the volume down key is held while booting up.

I have done what you have said but the volume rockers seem fine and it still boots ups into safe mode.
Do you use a case that is a tight fit around the hardware keys?

Seems fine and is working properly are two completely different things. Sounds like a bad rocker fosho. Mattix nailed it I'll bet money.

I'm telling you that's what's happening.
If you hold power from a cold boot it enters download mode? And if you try to boot into recovery it just boots normally in safe mode?

Well the volume rockers seem to fix itself, but went back to safe mode, I guess it is broken. I guess I'll have to get a new phone, I'll wait for the GS4 to come out since my contract is over in mid April. But thank you for helping me!

A work-around for phones stuck in safe mode due to water damage etc but that seem to work fine otherwise is to convert the (trusted) apps you need from data apps to system apps (move the .apk from /data/app to /system/app after installing via the Play Store). You may need to use Mounts2Sd or something similar with an sd-ext partition if you don't have enough space in your internal /system partition for all the apps you need. (With Mounts2Sd, placing the apps in /data/app-system on the sd-ext partition will fool the phone into thinking the apps are in /system/app and you can then use them in safe mode). If anybody is aware of a simpler script that does the same thing, please lmk.
If this helps you, please hit the Thanks button.

you can actually boot into the SAFE MODE in galaxy y as you do in computer or windows.........the thing you have to do is while switching on your phone when the samsung boot logo appears keep the options key (the key to the left of home key)pressed for 5 to 7 seconds till you fell a large vibration after that let the phone boot...... now you are in the SAFE MODE.....for proof i have posted the screenshots.......... currently i dont know what are the advantages and disadvantages of it..but you can try and find out...............

1) power off your phone
2) turn it on normally by pressing the power button
3) as the samsung boot logo appears, when the samsung logo starts to blink keep pressed the options button which is to the left of home screen till you feel a large vibration
4)after the vibration allow the phone to start...it will boot into the safe mode......worked for me on STOCK DDLC2
safe mode works
I can reproduce it here !
it works ! I accidentally was in it before some time.
works on LC1 as well.
"as the samsung boot logo appears, when the samsung logo starts to blink "
what you mean is, at the moment the first still logo changes into the animated boot graphics (after approx. 20 sec).
i.e. the word "YOUNG" is no longer visible
but no earlier, dudes !
Safe mode is for force close loops. In safe mode, the Android system only loads necessary applications. Third party apps like widgets are not loaded on boot up. You only need Safe Mode when your phone goes haywire and does a force close spree.
u mean it interrupts boot loops
I guess what ure saying is, when u feel unsafe due to terrorism , there is no point in bootin ya fone in safe mode
What's the use of this safe mode ?

Worked first time for me. I pressed the Menu button as soon as the 'Samsung Galaxy Y GT-S5360 Young' bootscreen disappeared and held it pressed until you feel the first small vibration. After that small vibrate I got the big vabration you mentioned. No apps at all can be loaded, even if you try to load them from the Play Store. Only apps installed to the system load...

Try a factory reset.
Or try changing to some other rom.
Make sure its not from holding the power button, like in your pocket when you sit down or something like a case pressing the button.
This used to happen to me anyway, it's a feature!
Yeah, it happened to me few times. Power button sucks.
My oneX until today 2 error msg and my phone restart.. when this happen,my bottom button (back, home, recent apps) blinking and my phone restart..anyone can help. Me?
If you're on stock Rom and factory reset doesnt helps, it is a hardware issue. Send it to service center

Same, the home+back+recent app buttons start blinking but it most of the time doesn't go off, just in a deep sleep mode.
You should not keep the home button pressed, but press it a few times [3,4 times]
I believe this will be fixed in 1.3.3 , but I am not sure.
I have talked to HTC about my HOX restarting and they suggested that before a factory reset I should try using the phone in safe mode. It's been turned on in safe mode for quite some time now... and guess what?! No other resets so far...
In conclusion: it's a stinking play store app / app update / app bg service.
Will use it like so for a couple a days and get back with feedback, or until JB rolls out globally in a few days.

Hello again,
1st of all... to get into safe mode just hold the power button pressed until your phone restarts... after it powers on wait it passes the first image on the boot screen, once it reaches the animated HTC logo (the one with the sound) press and hold the volume down until the phone completely starts. In the bottom left corner you will see SAFE MODE.
In my case it was the Viber app that screwed my phone. After complete uninstall my HOX runs just fine... and a bit faster...
Even got better scores in benchmarks...

i have to send my phone to repair, it keeps shutting down and when i turn it on sometimes i see a '!' on the battery indicator, and the battery stats graph looks like this http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18387650/2012-10-03_21-46-06.png
it stopped doing this after a while, but today, after 1 or 2 months it started doing like that again. it started after i removed the tpu case to clean it, probably there something improperly connected, and when i apply i little pressure to clean it , it give some problem. it shutted down 4 or 5 times and now looks ok again... i just hope it won't take too long for repair.

I believe you can remap your keys in generic.kl to wake with volume
check this out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2203059
a very basic guide on how to get the .kl file then just edit as you wish
I have been looking for a solution for this for quite some time. I am using gravity off right now. I just tried to change this file many times. I commented out Key 116 and put the POWER in key 115, the vol up, but that didnt work. I then tried to comment out all the POWER buttons in the file and replaced VOL up with POWER button - that didnt work. Then i reverted back and added the WAKE to the ends of VOL up and down, and that didnt work either. After all changes, i reverted the permission to the correct values.
Any one get this to work? Stock rooted GB27.
I just took my phone into the sprint store, and they are ordering a new one. But its on backorder My upgrade is up in December and I'll probably go with the note 3, so I'll just give the new phone to my brother, since he has the EVO LTE but the screen is basically unreadable because he shattered the screen

Hardware failure is what they are there for. (Unless, apparently, your usb port is jacked, in which case they tell you its something you did, and it'll be $500 to fix...)

Hi, randomly this morning my phone now flicks between media volume and headset literally every half a second rendering the phone pretty much useless for calls etc. I'm running cyanogenmod 7.2.0-ace.
I didn't do anything different with my phone this morning and haven't had headphones even plugged in for a few weeks.

I've tried:
- apps like headset blocker etc.
- plugging in/removing the headphones repeatedly
- rebooting the phone
- rebooting the phone with headphones in
- wiggling the jack to straighten out the wires (can't see them though, haven't got a torch)
- turning volume on and off on settings
- calling someone, playing music then calling someone, all variations of this
- restored to sometime last year, still no change
- updated to a nightly cyanogenmod rom, no change
Any other ideas please?

Wait, if he has a software problem, factory resetting and then reloading his backup just gets him back to the exact same position he started with. If it truly is a software problem, factory reset and flash a brand new ROM (say Android Revolution HD, which is extremely stable and stock-like). If the problem still exists, it's not software (which the fact pattern seems to imply that it's not). I'm betting that something is triggering the headphone jack, so that's a hardware problem. Whether it's something internal or external is harder to say.
Also Try flashing a custom rom
This may help u:thumbup:

Hummm my best guess is a damaged headphone socket at this stage so unless your skilled with surface mount electronic components and have a decent soldering iron its probably best to take it to a repair center or as you say a new mobo. I got my s4 for a real good deal

Gonna take my desire hd to the repair shop and see what they think at the weekend.
My D710 is driving me insane with the phantom menu button. Its so bad my search button has been going off at random too. This of course only happens when I am sending text messages, or receiving them. Which makes it extremely frustrating.
I know there's ways to disable these buttons. I do not have my phone rooted, and would rather not root it right now. I am still fighting sprint to replacing it with a different brand, but they insist on repairing it over and over again. If I root it, that will just give them ammo to deny my claims.
Is there anyway to disable the buttons on a bone stock GB27 setup?? Thanks in advance.
If you hold down the menu key. Search will pop up. So your search key is fine. The menu phantom press triggers a "hold" on the menu key at time thus, search pops up. There's a thread someone in the general forum that "fixes" the problem with the menu key.
EDIT: Unfortunately, the file to remap the keys are at system level, so rooting is the only way. You can temporary root, however.

No, if i hold my menu button down... nothing happens. But if i hit the search bar, search pops up.
I am having phantom menu & search buttons. My phone has a mind of its own whenever data is being transfered over the network. My daughters D710 does not act nearly as bad as mine does. Her's does phantom menu every now and then, but mine phantom menu & phantom searches EVERY SINGLE TIME. Unless i am at the sprint store of course.
Anyhow, I understand now that its not possible without root. When you say temporary root, does that mean just root, do the mod & then return to stock? Or is there some other method of temporary rooting?
Hmm.. On stock the way the keys are for me are the way I explained.
Anyway. When finishing running the exploit, you reboot, once the phone is booted, you'll have root. Once you finish editing the file, reboot. Once booted, root is gone. There's an app called frama-root for our device that let's you temp root if I remember correctly.

I sent my phone to Samsung twice for warranty repairs. They replaced the screen first, then when I sent it back they replaced the PBA. The problem never got any better, so I took it to my local sprint store where the tech was well aware of the issue. He replaced my screen (again) and it seems like the problem has gotten worse.
I will take a look at the tutorial you linked and see if i can make this work. Does that tutorial require me to root my device?
Yup, you'll need to be rooted.

Great, so I followed the guide and Disabled the softkeys, then enabled the Navbar. Seems like that took care of it, so far I have had 0 phantom keypresses.
I hate giving up screen space for the navbar. Especially when only the Menu button is at fault. Is there anyway to disable JUST the menu button, and leave the Home, back & search keys?
Thanks again for the help guys.
