i have this kinda problem awhile back. just put the charger. wait couple of minutes (for me it was about 10 minutes, there are reports that theirs need hours) then the sony's logo show's up. the i "unplugged the battery" (power+vol up till the phone's vibrating 3 times). then flash kernel via fastboot. i was using nova kernel back then.
Odp: Xperia S wont charge and boot.
Hey. I had this problem too. When phone automatically turns on, hold power plus vol up to reboot and put your phone to fastboot mode and flash advanced stock kernel 17. When you'll succeed reboot phone. (it won't boot) leave it charging for a few mins, fastboot flash your previous kernel back. Enjoy

NB: ROM FXP CM10 204 + Nova Kernel 1.51 on Xperia S block charge.
It's because nova kernel doesn't heve offline charging function

I have an Acro S. Flashed the Nova Kernels... All of them.... my phone wouldn't charge. After reading these forums I went ahead and flashed the Xperia SS Speed V8 and V6 kernels, Advanced Stock ICS kernel for the S, I think another, in an attempt to get my battery to finally charge. It ultimately died. After dying, and letting it sit for days after quitting out of frustration, I read all these forums and tried so many things that worked for others, but not me.
Finally the 6.1.A.2.55 Stock Kernel based on Arakmar's ICS Kernel showed a sliver of hope. This is the only one that works for me, but it only charges up to about 8%, then steadily drops and dies again. I have also managed to use Flashtool to flash the original FTF (LT26w_1265-3909_6.1.A.2.55_GENERIC), returning it to nearly stock, but it still won't charge. I also managed to flash (from the sd card) CM10 and Gapps, but still no charge, even when I mix all those same kernels with it...... Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

If ur able to flash kernel like 1.32 it would definitely charge but if its not charging even then, then might be problem with usb or charger
Sent from my LT26i using xda app-developers app
It's definitely not the chargers. It does charge, but only when the phone wants to. I don't know why it worked this time, but I re-flashed the the FTF (still didn't charge), then the AcroS_Kernel_61A255 and now it magically charges!! This is probably my fourth time doing this exact same thing. It baffles me why it finally decided to start charging. These phones are so picky! But, first time charging in a couple months, I am happy right now :good:
Edit:
Stopped charging again. I put CM10 on it and it wouldn't charge again. Flashed back to the FTF and it still won't charge.. Anyone had this happen before?

Try this
Instructions:
It's best to complete this procedure in the evening before going to bed, so you can leave it at 100% overnight and check in the morning if the drainage issue is fixed!!!
The whole procedure along with recalibration might take up to 5-6 hours!
1. Take the case off your Atrix (one of the latter steps involves taking the battery out from the phone while it's plugged in. Make sure your case won't stand in the way.)
2. Install Battery Calibration app from the market
3. Plug in your Atrix to charge while it's on, wait till it gets to a 100%
4. When the charge is 100%, open the BatteryCalibration app and lookup what the charge is in MV while at 100%. (Explanatory pic, needed number circled in red). Write it down.
My Atrix was showing ~3400MV while at 100%, which is definitely not the maximum capacity.
5. Discharge your Atrix completely until it shuts off.
A good way of doing this quickly is by turning on wifi, and a video player.
6. Without turning on the phone plug it into a wall charger and let it get to 100%
7. When it's at 100%, without unplugging it from the wall charger, take off the battery cover, and take the battery out.
Your phone will "reboot" and show a Missing Battery icon.
8. Without unplugging the phone from the wall charger or turning it on, put the battery back in and wait until the phone recognizes the battery.
9. Your battery should now be recognized by the phone, and showing a charge % significantly lower than 100%.
Mine showed only 5%. Back when I used a Milestone, it usually showed 60% after doing this.
10. Let it sit there charging for 2-3 hours.
My phone wouldn't charge past 10%, but yours might. The numbers don't matter much as the phone is definitely getting additional charge that could have been lost while flashing ROMs, etc.
11. After 2-3 hours, turn the phone on while holding the volume down button and get into CWM.
Do not disconnect it from the charger still!
12. Install jug6ernaut's CWM battery fix (even if you had it installed before), do not reboot yet.
Do not disconnect it from the charger still!
13. Wipe battery stats in CWM, reboot.
Do not disconnect it from the charger still!
14. When the phone turns on, go into BatteryCalibration app again and look up your MV numbers
- if you were like me, they should be significantly higher than before. After this whole process I had 4200MV at 100%, comparing to 3400MV before calibration.
Do not disconnect it from the charger still!
15. Before going to sleep - Install Watchdog from the market. Go into it's preferences, set CPU threshhold to 20%, check "Include phone processes", check "Monitor phone processes", check "Display all phone processes", set system CPU threshhold to 20% as well.
Do not disconnect it from the charger still!
16. Make sure your wifi and data connections are off. Now finally unplug the phone from the charger.
Go to bed, let your phone sleep too.
17. Success! Next morning check where your battery % is at and if you followed the instructions correctly / got lucky like me, your battery life should be 90% or more.
I went to bed with 98% and woke up to 94%. So, I consider this mission a success.
(Your general battery capacity should have increased, even if something still was draining the battery, you will be able to find the infringing process in WatchDog with the settings we've set up in step 15 )
Also calibration+wiping battery stats more or less the same thing

I flashed a CM7.1.0 official in my Motorola Defy and now when I put the battery on the phone, the statusbar shows a "?" on the place of the battery. I've already tried the MacGyver solution and tried to charge the battery with a external charger but still doesn't work. When a use the phone it stays awake for 1 hour and then it turn off. When I charge 100% with the external charger, the phone shows 50% of battery. What I should do???
Sorry for the bad english, I'm brazillian.

Would that ROM also help a screwed up green lens (defy+ BL7 rom flashed on it) that simply won't run off a battery? Any battery?
The thing boots OK, but reboots when the PIN input is requested. But I can enter recovery and stay there as long as I like, it won't reboot.
And it runs fine when on charger or USB - like a normal Defy. Unplug -> instant reboot.
Also, battery is not charged but is "recognized" - displays the charge remaining.

No problem - I understand you
Problem is that BL7 was indeed flashed previously.
But this si the first time that I saw a battery problem this big.
I mean it's not the ususal 50-80% charge - it doesn't run off the battery, only off the charger.
No matter what battery I put in.
I guess the mainboard is a goner.
I'm using just ARTMOD 5.2.2 and at the same time I also changed recovery, switching to the TWRP (2.8.0.1)
I can no longer charge the battery with the phone turned off:
If it's already off then just plug in the cable the phone turns on again
If I power off the phone while it is charging, rather than turn off it restarts (same thing by powering off from TWRP).
I've tried several cables and chargers.
What is the component that charges the battery from the phone off? One that shows the charging icon with the percentage ... The kernel?
Does anyone have the same problem?
thanks
As far as I understand from what was discussed before about this topic, this is the issue with the unlocked bootloader, and is not related to a particular ROM or recovery. I have the same issue - the phone can't stay off when charging. Doesn't bother me much, frankly...

Thanks for your reply.
This makes sense even if the behavior varies depending on the rom / recovery installed.
I do a search on the subject but if you have a good link...
I hazard a guess that it has something to do with your TWRP 2.8.0.1 install---if you unpack recovery.img, under \ramdisk\res\images, you will find the offline charger icons stored in a directory called charger. I've heard rumors that 2.8.0.1 is somewhat problematic.
Have you tried to flash an earlier version of TWRP to see if the behavior repeats, such as TWRP-2.6.3.0_E975_MR.zip (google it and you'll find the download; apparently I am not allowed to post outside links)?
Personally, I am running an unlocked bootloader (z30d), TWRP 2.6.3.0, PA 4.5 BETA4 with faust93's experimental Franco kernel. Offline charging works fine.
Hope it helps and good luck.
Hello all,
having a really aggravating problem where I'm using my g3 where periodically I'll be using my phone (playing pokemon go usually, think it happened once while using the web browser) and the screen just shuts off and will not power on or do anything at all, totally unresponsive, no matter how long I hold the power button. I either have to pull the battery or plug it into a charger to get it to power on again.
When I plug the phone into the charger, the battery screen pops up. It shows my current percent and after some time it will boot back into system.
This wouldn't be so awful if it wasn't for the fact that there's no way to reset the damn phone when it's unresponsive without pulling the battery or charging!
Please, would anyone have ANY clues as to why this is occurring? Any logs I can check?
At the very least, is there any way to modify the boot firmware to allow me to reset the phone when it's unresponsive?
The only thing I can think of is that I replaced the battery recently. The replacement is (supposedly) genuine.
Thank you so much!
[edit] Currently using stock marshmallow that is just rooted no custom kernels or xposed (clean flash) and still having the problem but also had the problem on an older version of fulmics with an old version of xceed kernel
Sorry for the bump, but I'm really desperate for any pointers to solving this. To reiterate:
1. I'll be using my phone (touch screen is being pressed)
2. Screen suddenly shuts off, completely black, no rhyme or reason
3. Phone completely unresponsive, will not power on until battery is pulled or phone is plugged into the charger (in the case of the latter, the phone displays the battery charging screen like the phone was completely off and dead)
Please I'm desperate for any kind of help at all. The problem doesn't seem to happen while charging, only when drawing directly from battery though I generally don't use it while it's charging
I also have D851 I had the same problem as u Flash custom kernel like xceed check the andriod development page for g3 u will see it there use 4v beta mentioned on his thread u need TWRP n root for this if ur in clean stock rom ... Just to clarify, you've had this issue described in the OP, but installing the exceed 4v kernel solved the problem for you?
I've installed the exceed 4v kernel so I will report back if I still have the problem.

Yes i had the same issue mine gave problem when i was rooted n xposed installed on stock kernel i havent checked it in complete stock cuz i recently bought this phone n whenever i buy a new phone i root it after flashing xceed wipe delvik cache also i no longer have random reboots of tmobile logo n no phone being complete dead to pull the battery out n place it back again ... After flashing xceed u also may need to flash super su via twrp for root download synapse from playstore apply on the lower power state mode then ur good to go
Hey everyone. I've installed the exceed 4v kernel as described in Jinderation's post and sadly I still get the shutdown / won't respond without pulling battery or charging problem .
I noticed I almost always have the problem when the battery is under 50. It NEVER happens while the phone is connected to some kind of charger.
I will be extremely grateful to anyone who can offer further advice. Is there anyway way I can run a log to catch what's causing this problem?
Also, thank you so much jinderation for taking the time to help me.
Regards
I was on the stock MM rom about a month in use for the d851 had no issues. Yesterday my phone blue screen wont power back on or no charge no nothing. Plz help!!!

Thats strange u shouldnt be having this issue on that kernel ... Here is one another solution go back to stock via restore via twrp if u had a backup in there ...n flash solid kernel ...solid kernel is best for performance try that... I played n completed Fahrenheit indigo prophecy game on that kernel no reboots or being complete dead... Try it n report back ...also buy 2 stock batteries try running them on ur phone also use geniune stock cable n charger install ampere app see how many ampere are showing when charging the value needs to be 800mah in normal
