I flashed a CM7.1.0 official in my Motorola Defy and now when I put the battery on the phone, the statusbar shows a "?" on the place of the battery. I've already tried the MacGyver solution and tried to charge the battery with a external charger but still doesn't work. When a use the phone it stays awake for 1 hour and then it turn off. When I charge 100% with the external charger, the phone shows 50% of battery. What I should do???
Sorry for the bad english, I'm brazillian.

Would that ROM also help a screwed up green lens (defy+ BL7 rom flashed on it) that simply won't run off a battery? Any battery?
The thing boots OK, but reboots when the PIN input is requested. But I can enter recovery and stay there as long as I like, it won't reboot.
And it runs fine when on charger or USB - like a normal Defy. Unplug -> instant reboot.
Also, battery is not charged but is "recognized" - displays the charge remaining.

No problem - I understand you
Problem is that BL7 was indeed flashed previously.
But this si the first time that I saw a battery problem this big.
I mean it's not the ususal 50-80% charge - it doesn't run off the battery, only off the charger.
No matter what battery I put in.
I guess the mainboard is a goner.

Hi,
I'm a proud owner of the Motorola Defys and was happy until yesterday :-(
I have already read much in the forum and everything about the Defy.
My problem has already tried a post by someone :
1. Jan. 2011 ... As always, I close with my laptop to Defy the load on - but nothing happened. Only a white LED is on permanently.
Its similar in my case:
- Defy flashed with RSD (UK U3 2.1)
- RSD showed: Finished,
...but the
- Defy is not booting anymore
- LED light is white
- RSD does not recognize my Defy
- Charge the battery: Defy did not respond
- :-(
I'm desperate .. and hope to find some answears here...
Best Regards
ditto except mine actually goes through the boot pic and then loops. If I try to boot to USB cable restore (Volume up+boot) =white light. : (
hi there,
I had this after upgrading to the UK 2.5.1 and then wanting to run a 2.34 build.
If you plug the usb cable into the phone while rsdlite is active, the table below should say connected. Simply reflash the full version of 2.5.1 again and it works fine. There is then a method on the forum about gaining root access on 2.5.1. This worked fine for me and i am now running the clean 2.34 blurless rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894650 and this is superb and highly recommended.
As long as you get connected in rsdlite, dont worry your phone isnt bricked and you should have it up and running in no time at all!.
If you get really stuck, i can quite easily get mine into the "state" yours is and do a little video or document the steps for you if that helps.
Andy
ja, that means you have less voltage then you need to boot.
send it back or reload the battery, no chance of getting it up with no bootloader
*edit* me post is not related to andy fletcher, but to you two.
if ye connect the cable to load the battery, does there appear a sign of a batt with a questionmark in it?
First of all: Unplug the phone and power it off. Now hold the [Volume up] button while powering on the phone. Now you get to the bootloader. If it says battery ok, connect the USB cable and go nuts, RSD Lite will detect the phone when it's in the bootloader.
If it says "Battery Low, Cannot program", you can either send it in, hoping they'll just replace it without figuring out you have been rooting and flashing the phone. Or you can do what I did here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10264115 - Just take your time and pay attention to what your'e doing and you'll be fine
RSD cann not connect the Defy
hi Guys ...thank you for your answears...
no I can not start in bootloader ... defy is probably elsewhere ... No Booting No Recovery .. no boot loader ... only the white LED on USB
The Defy ich fully charged...and i tried to turn off take of tthe battery ...hard reset
nothings works :-(
I think i have to send it to Motorola :-(
Best Regrads
Have you tried the USB jumpercable solution?

Mine acted like the battery had collapsed, reporting "Battery Low, cannot program" after 12 straight hours of charging, but after the usb jumplead trick, the battery has been just fine. I suspect that the problem was in the phone the whole time and being force-fed 5 volts snapped it out of it. Be sure to post what happens when using another battery!
Many thanks to Sorensiim!! wow it worked! I have used the battery of my friend who is also a Defy owner ....
the problem was the black screen ..
I could not see that the Defy was hanging and my battery was too low indeed... .... I had to continue to work with screen black and start the boot loader (Volume up and power on) and then the RSD has also finally recognized my Defy.... I'm going to flash the CleanJitDeodexd2.34CE and keep you informed. .. hopefully l finally also my market will work ......
thanks to all the nice guys discussed with me my problem... i am proud to be a member here ...thanks guys!!!

I got mine stuck on white led also, this was because of a mid rom flash interrupt (the cable got pulled out, dont ask who did it cuz i dunno)
Nothing i do makes the phone work, RSD did recognise my phone the first 2 times with white led and i tried to flash a rom but after it said "pass" the result was the same .. no image no bootloader just white led when phone is connected to pc.
Hi everybody. I also have the same problem like astearon. I tried the jumper cable solution but no result: rsd lite don't recognize my defy, i can flash it but it don't reboot after flash, just black screen.
Thanks to people which will help me!
(sorry for my english!)
try some other versions, preferably downgradable, try your original one
I had the same problem after flashing a higher version then noticed it is not supposed to be flashed on the original version my defy was on.

so how come you can flash your phone with RSD Lite, if it doesn't recognize your phone ??
Hi All,
I am also having the same problem i.e., white led and RSD lite is able to recognize my defy. Tried to flash Defy_2_2_CN.sbf rom. Not sure what to do.
Appreciate if any one can suggest me something.
Thanks
Listen everybody!!
You DO NOT have to use the jumpercable method thingy..
You just have to buy an AC power supply and charge your defy...
It will light up after some minutes!!!
Sometimes when the battery is COMPLETELY low (empty) you cannot charge by plugging your phone to the PC over PC, only the white LED lights up..
But if you charge it by the AC power supply IT WILL CHARGE!!
From my own experience.

AC power supply what you mean by that?
is it the wall charger that come with the box (charger+usb cable) ?? or like a built in wall charger like the normal one??
(*try charing with charger come with defy, finger cross) !!!!
Original wall charger not working ~~~
But Mcguyver Hack Works!!!!
Ran into a wall while trying out the new froyo ROMs...
Stock: 2.51 SEA version (i'm in Malaysia)
- Successfully restored VanillaFroyo. Camera flash cant be fixed.
- Wanted to try Higgsy's RC2. RSD'd China 2.2, process finished, but phone didnt reboot. No 'M', just a black screen with the white LED lit when US?B connected.
- RSD can see the phone but nothing on phone screen. Power+up vol and Power+down vol doesnt work.
- Tried mmty, USB not detected, activesync off. No joy there...
Any ideas before i send it back to the shop?
you may try flash with this sbf.. sorry i cant post link..
hxxps://rsddownload.motorola.com/download/JRDNEM_U3_2.51.1_BLUR_P3_SIGN_SIGNED_USAJRDNEMARAB1B8RTGB02C.0R_USAJORDANRTGB_P035_A011_HWp3_Service1FF.sbf.gz
as long as in RSD lite 4.9 and your phone connected with one single press on power button, i think u could revive your phone.
The same problem has been addressed at least 8times with hundreds of users. But i will reiterate. "Your battery is dead", so please use the McGyver trick to give it a jump and then flash with RSD only if does not boot again.
Warning: Always make sure your battery is close to 100% while flashing roms and do not leave phone in bootloader or recovery for a long time.
ok thanks will try the suggestions from the other threads..

Good evening everyone,
I own a Motorola Defy, and tried to put the ROM "For Adlxmod Froyo Defy, "but I had the UK firmware 2.51.1.
It was there that a lack of attention, my phone now does not care anymore.
He only gets a white LED lit in front of him and does not happen any more, nor even acknowledge again by RSD.
I read in several places that this is due to firmware 2:51 and I believe I have given a HARD BRICK on my device.
Has some way to fix my phone without having to take it to an authorized?
I thank everyone's help,
Felipe

Thanks, I managed to settle with the tip given!
Hello Everyone,
My Defy run out of juce with a special 3400mAh battery from china in the night. When I came home I changed the battery (the stock battery) which was fully charged. After that the defy was stuck in a bootloop (cm7) but i did not recognize this for a couple of hours. Because of this bootloop I removed the battery and put it in again from that time on the defy was dead. Maybe I did not wait long enough - I mean I saw the bootloop and thought 'crap' took the battery out and stuffed it right in again (I was a bit frustrated). Maybe i should have waited at least 5-10 seconds before putting the battery in again?
I tried to get access to the defy by RSD lite. But the PC does not recognize it. I got a white LED by connecting it to the PC. The defy is recognized only for to seconds and than disconnects again.
I tried to flash via sbf_flash on ubuntu without any result. The defy is simply not recognized. Only white LED. No Bootloader, no recovery, no logo.
Has anyone a suggestion? Is there a possibility to get acess to the defy to reflassh everything. Since the white LED is active there has to be a way. What about JTAG and riffbox? could this be a solution and if yes - how ?
I bought a used iPhone4 last week. But honestly: I hate it!! I do not like iOS, I dont like the edges of the iPhone - it is so uncomfortable to hold it in the hands. Wifi connectivity and connection is catastrophic. I will sell it a.s.a.p. again.
I want just my beloved defy back - the only phone I ever loved !! I appreciate any suggestions - thanks in advance !!
Your "special" battery is not that special afterall
What happened to your stock battery? Just get it charged - ask a friend with a Defy to charge it for you or do the McGyver trick, in order to fire it up again and then flash your stock SBF via RSD Lite. Calm down - Defy is like a Terminator and is immortal (as long as you don't kill it by flashing wrong SBF )
Thank you for the reply. However I have a dockingstation for the defy with which I can charge the battery without the phone. The battery is full for sure!
Hope you are right that the defy is like the Terminator - I have not lost hope yet.
Any other suggestions ?!
If Defy doesn't even get into bootloader, this means there is no juice in the battery. No matter what crap one would flash, bootloader is ALWAYS accessable! That's the beauty of the locked bootloader - you can't kill it! So as long as there is charge in the battery, you can always get into bootloader (Vol up + Power) and flash a new sbf. Peace of advice: don't trust your cheap, no-name, chinese battery. Use the original one, charged in another Defy phone, so you can make sure it really IS charged. The fact you left it in an external charger, doesn't mean it is charged - battery might not be working, charger may not be working, or both at the same time might not be working. There is no reason not to get into bootloader if there is charge in the battery
Cheers!

It's blank screen problem, happens when you flashed an SBF older than your previous one.
You still can get into Bootloader, just nothing on screen but it's definitely in there. Then flash the right SBF, the same or higher build than your previous stock rom successfuly to fix it.
Which SBF are higher than other? It's about Bootloader(BL) version, read here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966537
If not sure, try DFP-231 builds, it's highest BL version to ensure fixing this.

Look, I've suggested to one who use Defy+, so I said he should try DFP-231.
But not for Defy mb525, you shouldn't flash DFP-231 or any 2.3.x SBF files to your mb525...
Now you've stuck to Bootloader V.7 and no way back.
What's done is done, stick to that DFP-231 SBF you've flashed for now.
Did your flash finish with "Finish/pass" or "Please manually power up phone"?
If it Finish/pass then try again on Stock recovery, you almost there.
But if "Please manually power up phone", means you're not yet flashed your phone completely...
So do this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38187413
Hello all!
Help me please, if it's possible. Some days ago I tried to downgraade from 2.3.4-134 firmware by this guide:
Code:
Firstly flash this build: .........3_97.21.51.rar/
This is version 2.1 rooted easy
then install clockworldmod.
Install nandroid backup .................................
Wipe it!
Flash fixed SBF ......................................
Wipe it again.
But I unfortunately forgot fully charge a battery. As a result I couldn't turn it on, if connect phone to PC I saw white flash LED... I charged the battery in external noname Chinese charger and flashed firmware but now phone can't recognize any batteries
I thought my battery is dead, but another Defy recognize it correctly. In this time my phone can't recognize original battery from it's, another, Defy.
I tried to calibrate battery, but if I connect phone to "stock" chardger, I see only big battery picture with "?" sign
Thanks a lot for any suggestions to solve this problem!

i dont know if this is being charged when is turned off, but the battery works fine, it is on during all the process with the RSD lite...
try to boot into boatloader modus ,
If it says battery low cannot program you know what's wrong
If your battery don't charge use McGiver trick ,other battery or else
If it don't boot after flash with rsd
Factory reset from stock recovery would solve your problem

you have flashed the worst sbf you could have. i am afraid to say that the phone is now in dire straights.
the battery fixes dont work for that bootloader on normal defy red lense phones. the only chance you may have is to read through my thread but ultimately it may not help so please do your own research before you come knocking down my door.

i havent fixed the issue but i am able to use the phone but only if the battery is pre charged. no matter what i did or what battery fix i flashed i can not get the phone to either tell me how much charge is left or get it to charge the battery and sometimes i need he mcgyver trick to even get the phone boot.
basically i still havent properly tested it but i have an external battery pack on its way and will be able to confirm one way or the other tomorrow. if it goes as i hope then i will be able to charge the battery sing an external pack put the battery in the phone and use it until it runs dry. then i can charge the battery again using the battery pack and so on and so forth.
i am using white rabbit rom which has a cm7.2 base and is really very good. it also has four battery fixes you can download and there are a few more found dotted here there and everywhere on xda. you will have to search for them. all told i tried 6 and none have fixed the issue however you may have better luck than i did.
i have been told it is fixable but i didnt find one and have given up now. if the battery pack doesnt work then i am just gonna throw it in the drawer and buy another phone.

Seriously.!! Why you didn't read before doing anything. Full SBFs kills the option to revert back.
Now flash that SBF again, see if you can boot into recovery and wipe data/factory reset.

i havent fixed the issue but i am able to use the phone but only if the battery is pre charged. no matter what i did or what battery fix i flashed i can not get the phone to either tell me how much charge is left or get it to charge the battery and sometimes i need he mcgyver trick to even get the phone boot.
basically i still havent properly tested it but i have an external battery pack on its way and will be able to confirm one way or the other tomorrow. if it goes as i hope then i will be able to charge the battery sing an external pack put the battery in the phone and use it until it runs dry. then i can charge the battery again using the battery pack and so on and so forth.
i am using white rabbit rom which has a cm7.2 base and is really very good. it also has four battery fixes you can download and there are a few more found dotted here there and everywhere on xda. you will have to search for them. all told i tried 6 and none have fixed the issue however you may have better luck than i did.
i have been told it is fixable but i didnt find one and have given up now. if the battery pack doesnt work then i am just gonna throw it in the drawer and buy another phone.
sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

You are not understanding, my battery is fine so i can turn on my phone without using the Mcgyver trick...
My defy is just stuck on the ( M ) screen, i read already others threads and they call it bricked, so my phone is bricked and i have to unbrick it.

Go into bootloader by pressing Power button and Vol+ button
Connect your phone to your PC via USB cable
Make sure everything is OK
Locate downloaded SBF. In popup dialog press Uncompress and start flashing
If you get " Please manually power up this phone " in RSD Lite pull battery out > put your battery back > reboot into stock recovery by holding Power button and Vol- button > Choose Wipe data/cache > Choose Reboot system now
That's it, you unbricked your Defy!

actually i did understand totally what you said and if you had read the thread i linked to you would have found the answer in there but no big deal because neo.ank has spelled it out for. do that and the phone will boot again.
the problem comes after you have got the phone flashed and running again and i guess in that respect you didnt understand what i wrote.
if when you get the sbf up and running can you please post back on this thread and let us know if the battery charges and is registered as being used... ie the percentage drops down after 2 hours of use from say 100 to 90 or whatever.
i am very keen to hear if your battery will work when you have the sbf flashed and running though so please do post back and confirm one way or the other. cheers and good luck.
THANKS!!!!

hmm thanks for replying.
are you running the stock sbf? if you try a custom rom can you let me know if the battery works and which rom you are running. did you flash a battery fix or did it work straight away with no issues?
anyways glad to hear it is all ok and if anything changes if you flash a custom rom let us know.

Don't try to do anything about it. It won't change.. It will remain MB526.. That's why it is said to be non-downgradable.
