Hello peepz...cannot create nandroid backup. Everything is good until its passes :
backing up android_secure...
After that I get:
Unable to find mounted volume:/ sdcard
Error finding an appropriate backup handler.
Upon attempting to restore that back up I get the message:
MD5 mismatch....
Only thing I can think of is erasing to boot sound. Is that what happen?
Running Darthstalker X1....I tried to back up also on exsdcard

Update recovery. And make sure you aren't using any spaces in the filename.
Fix

I can'tcreate a single nandroid backup, nor restore old ones when gear shifting my roms and room manager always fails to create a backup, it's tragic.

Are you booting into recovery, or using ROM Manager? I've had issues in the past w/ ROM Manager actually creating a backup, but if I reboot into cwm and start a backup, it works fine.
As for restoring prev. nandroids, are you changing the name of the file/folder of your backup? From what I've heard, it cannot have any spaces between characters, make sure it's a . or - or something.
Hope that helps!
I've tried using cwm and ROM manager and none of them work, I'm wondering if I should use my internal SD.

If that doesn't work, you can try reflashing cwm through Odin
I'll give it a whirl.

So I made this backup of cm7 to install lewa, I renamed the backup using Rom manager itself . When I wanted to restore, it told me MD5 MISMATCH. I opened the backup folder, I couldn't find the cache image and the MD5 file !!! There's only the images of system, data, android_secure and boot image.
I have some important data in this backup and I really need it. Any suggestions ?
PS: I have the android kitchen if that makes any difference

What if I want to restore the whole thing ?
Is there anyway that I can regenerate the md5 sum?

You can try to fix the MD5 mismatch error using this procedure:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=714114
Or, as an alternative, you can simply use Fastboot to flash all the Nandroid Backup IMG files. fastboot flash system system.img, fastboot flash data data.img and so on.
I tried out a different ROM last night, decided to revert to CM9 via my nandroid backup, but when I select the backup I get a message "MD5 mismatch" and the restore fails. Anyone have an explanation for this?

For the MD5 to match, the folder (and path) has to have EXACTLY the same name as when you created it.
If you can't remember what it was, just redo the MD5.
Thank you. I had changed the folder name and added spaces. Never would have thought that would mess it up. Thanks again.

Pretty much ANYTHING will cause an MD5 mismatch to be thrown. Learned that yesterday
If you have multiple backups and need to rename them you can edit the names with Rom Manager. Its the only way I know of that won't cause MD5 mistmatches. Also some people have success just renaming but without any spaces.

Hi guys,
So I'm a noob so don't stab me or anything. But I have just rooted/flashed my s3 with frosty jb. I did make a backup of the stock rom. However, when I did the back up I had a HUGE cache from google music, like 1.5 gb. So when I tried to get my data restored it kept failing. I have sifted through some other threads that direct people to unzip the data.tar and then remove some files and rezip it. And I did do this and deleted all of the music cache. Even after I rezipped it, put it back in the backup directory, and redid the whole md5sum it still doesn't work and says failed to restore data. :crying:
Any help is GREATLY appreciated.
Try Mobile Odin.
Search it here on xda for a free version and instructions, or get pro on app store.
I highly reccomend pro.

Does that mean I can use the original 2.4gb data file?
Use a cache cleaning app before backing up. Like App Cache Cleaner (has a free version), or SD Maid.
Actually, Im not sure it will work, but could be worth a shot. With mobile odin it doesn't have to be zipped. Just point to the .img file.
This is a nandroid backup I'm assumin so you will have to restore it using the same recovery as before. Cwm won't restore twrp backups and vice versa. Usually the recovery version won't matter, but if your having problems try restoring with the exact same version you made it with.
When you stripped it down, did you rmtry it without adding the md5 back? Again not sure if it'll work but you could try....

Ok so I did make a nandroid backup using CWM. After I got rid of the files that I didn't need I deleted the md5 and reassigned it using the whole android terminal commands. But now it doesn't fail once it reaches 2gb in the restore process. It just fails to start /data restore.
Try renaming it to data.img and flash in mobile odin (you can find with a quick search)
Or archive it into a .tar and try regular odin. Never tried this so don't know if it'll work or cause issues. It will trip your flash counter with the pc odin method.

I usually use cwm rec but I flashed twrp recovery, I wanted to verify its correct or ok to check mark every option before starting first back up?
There is options to check efs backup cache modem boot and md5
I just choose to include all in the backup is this the correct thing to do, im use to cwm where that doesn't give u all these option's

You will have to use the NV Backup tool to backup your IMEI (and I think efs?).
