We will all be seeing a very nice thing march 28th from tmobile... soon thanks to a big mouth rep .
Postpaid 4g no caps on data no "contract" Truly unlimited.
This is like a contract without the contract.
Get a device with out contract just as u would with one .
Pay it off on monthly payments, this is like metro pcs no Data caps, but faster data and pay minimal down toward a new device NO CONTRACT.

Seems like they are starting to implement "merge changes" from their deal with metro.

This doesn't have anything to do with metro, this has more to do with them trying to pioneer something new. More of a European business model, for people that see the value of it it will be a great thing. Some people still think that getting a phone cheap with a contract is better no matter what though. They rather pay out the ass then save money by buying a phone full price. I for one hope it's insanely successful because if it is not only is it good for tmobile but we might see manufacturers finally compete to have lower cost devices rather than, all these carriers charging an arm and a leg just so they don't lose profit subsidizing handset. The reason I said this doesn't have to do with the metro thing is because tmobile is keeping prepaid around and credit will still be required for you to be trusted with a phone payment plan on postpaid. Tmobile is trying something new and if it catches on then we should see nice growth for tmobile and carriers having to change up there prices and stuff to compete.

Its kind of like the value plan they have now. That is what I have for over 3 years now. I pay cheap on monthly plan and unlimited everything '5gb' and when ever I update phones I pay a down of like $200 and then $20 per month for the phone till is paid off with no interest rate
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda premium
I'm already on post paid unlimited plan with no data cap. The only thing I'm missing from my previous "unlimited" 5 gig plan is data tethering (hotspot feature) but they dont even offer it as an add on for note2
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
I'll stick with my current prepaid plan, it's still cheaper and has better coverage. When Tmobile gets better coverage I'll consider it. In my area they are way too spotty. I do believe it's a step in the right direction.
Can you imagine how fast IPhone sales would drop if all the carriers stop subsidizing the phone purchase. I'm sure super Android phones would suffer too.
All prepaid as of 2 months ago is truly unlimited NO CAP after 5gigs , if anyone hasnt noticed this just tether all your devices, run up a gig a day after 5 gigs you'll see that your still pulling 10-16mg downloads depending on coverage.
The post paid will be just like prepaid but they will offer insurance on existing and new handsets same unlimited data NO CAPS even after 5gigs.
And you will be prioritized in the network coverage when the coverage becomes congested, this isn't the same for prepaid customers.
All in all unlimited hspa I call it not really 4g lte speeds but good enough, option to add something like 120 $ down extra to finance a phone into monthly payments and all this with NO Contract
March 28th they say Or so a tmobile corporate rep told me the day I went to reinstate my contract and he said why bother stay on prepaid for a few more weeks and reap the benefits of contract features without a contract!
This is about the best thing tmobile has implemented in some time now.
It's essentially same as if Verizon was to all sudden flick a switch and give everyone back there unlimited data .It's a great move by tmobile, giving back something they once took away.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
To reiterate, I was trying to say this new revision on tmobile data ,is in part like Metro pcs , in which up until recently Metro was the only carrier that gave u true 4g lte for" one set price a month" that's the key one set price..... For new customers, no contract which used to be 10gigs max on contract
Now tmobile has this since they did away with the 5g caps on the prepaid .They also did away with a data cap on contract plans , , essentially they are giving back truly unlimited this would make tmobile and Metro the only two carriers doing so for new customers , unless you are "Grandfathered in " with att or vzw on there UL data.

I'll go ahead and confirm this as well. I work for the company. There's going to be a HUGE switch on March 24th to be exact. Trade in programs. No contract plans. Unlimited everything. $50 starts you with unlimited talk and text with 500mb throttled data included already. $20 extra for just truly unlimited. Or $10 for every 2GB, pay per use. You do what you want. If you leave while paying off the device, you just get billed for the device. Family plans are the same way except it's 40 instead of 50 starting out. Add a line is simply $10 then $10 for data.
Huge question everyone is asking is can I move to this plan right away? Yes. You'll still finish your contract though. They won't just let everyone cut their contract. This only applies if you're already on the value plan (monthly installments). If you're a classic/legacy plan, they will charge a migration fee. But I'm pretty sure that'll negate your contract.
This is all leaked info already on the Web, so I'm not really doing anything bad here by disclosing this. Just making it easier for people to understand, I'm super excited about what these plans have to offer and you all should too. With them doubling their coverage this year and rolling out LTE with no contract, it's a great time to be a customer or an employee. If you have questions, ask!

My wife and I are on the 1000 minute family plan. Switching to this new plan would be a price jump for us. we both have 2 GB data plans. I guessing the soft cap on those won't go anywhere unless we change plans right? Also, if I want to get a unlimited data plan but keep my current plan will I need to make that move now? would I be forced to switch plans to get it after the 24th?

You aren't forced to make ANY switches. You can keep your plan. But it's considered grandfathered as of the 24th. It should be cheaper. The plans aren't solid, but they're making them the cheapest they've ever been ever. Things are still up in the air and not definite.
If you decide to upgrade to unlimited data, you shouldn't have to change plans just to change your data package.

i pay $124 a month for
unlimited text/mms and 1000 shared minutes between 2 phones.
i'd like to cut my contracts and separate the phones. but my contract isn't up for two years.
what's my best plan of action.
also note - that i only get $124 because of my 15% educator discount or else i'd be paying somewhere
along the $180 mark for the above plan.
Amen for the Lte can anyone confirm that with the lte rollout we will see better coverage in dead zones , lte on new towers? I only ask cause it is spotty in many areas .Hoping the lte band will give better reception.
Any word on lte speed comparisons to the other two carriers ?

You'll essentially be paying 70 per line for truly unlimited data txt calla so 140 $ .I'd say for the extra 16 $ its worth it .No hassle no contract still get insured on phones a lot of upside to the move .

Well, right now in areas where they are preping LTE (like mine in OKC) HSPA+ has gotten a lot slower. If I have the 1900 Mhz refarm, it is fine, but otherwise it is down to 3-5 mb/s. I know that T-Mobile has AWS 1700/2100 in two groups in OKC. A 2x10 and a 2x5. My guess is that they moved the HSPA+ from 2x10 to 2x5 so the LTE can be on the 2x10. So right now they would be in testing on it and gradually hitting the 1900 refarm. Eventually, I think the goal is for most HSPA+ to be on 1900 with LTE on the AWS 1700/2100.
Getting back to your question and my point, I think LTE will improve existing coverage slightly as I think it does offer a little better transmission over HSPA+ at the same frequency. However, unless they roll it out in more towers/areas, it won't have a drastic improvement. The other possibilities is that pepping for it might be hurting your speeds as they have to free up space on the AWS 1700/2100 for the LTE. So that might be part of the problem for you.

well seeing as how there is currently no shared data plan for family plans atm, it will probably be per line, not per family account.
The majority of people use 2gb of data so that's $30. Right now data cost 30$ so this won't affect the majority. Power users use more than 2 using anywhere from 5-10gb so these power users have to pay extra because Verizon loves money. I use 6gb and sometimes 8gb so ill worry about this when I grab my Droid Incredible 3

This tired plan really should be renamed to "lower caps and more money plans"..... I'm not entirely sure how on earth anyone could think this is good for the end users.
Wait ... can someone please tell me if I'm on a family plan with 3 Smart phones (my Inc2, and 2 Droid Charges) with the unlimited data, when we upgrade or renew our contract, do we get to keep our unlimited data? Or is it unclear to everyone at this moment?
If you renew your contract, you are no longer grandfathered as you are agreeing to new terms. If you have current data plans with no intention to change/renew in the near future, you are covered with unlimited data. If you buy your device at retail without renewing your contract, your contract should remain the same.
More than likely if you have an unlimited plan, you will eventually start being harassed by Verizon to renew, upgrade, or do something else that will cause contract changes on your part to switch you to a limited data plan.
I am a power user. I have used upwards to 8gb in a month on 3G. Capping at a max of $10 for an ungodly amount per month is unacceptable. This would be too easy to break on 4G and I think that is their intention.
Sprint is pretty proud of their unlimited plans. If Verizon doesn't see the light before it comes time for me to renew again, I may forego my discount and move to Sprint if Sprint continues down the path of unlimited.

I'm not misinformed. If you upgrade using their upgrade option, you are also renewing your contract. Renewing your contract means new contract terms should your current contract no longer be available/valid. This means upgrading after the 7th would mean you lose unlimited data. This is why people are rushing to get their upgrades in, so they can be grandfathered in.

well the month to month is being abolished, that's a given. it was a marketing move to reel in more business. Once the contracts are established they were given quazy deals to move from month to month to contractual.

i just called into their corporate accounts customer service and asked all about the how to of upgrading my current min/data plan come the end of July.
the rep verbatim said "there is no change that would take affect to my account when upgrading either. She said if necessary they can actually help me by giving me some extra min's if infact i am running low on my current set to hold me over till my next billing cycle".
"but as far as upgrading there are no extra fee's nor changes in packages coming any time soon, that she is aware of".
"so when the time comes in July to simply call and make the upgrade and go ahead and do so".
I talked to some Verizon employees and they all told me that whenever I renew my contract/upgrade with Verizon, I'll still be grandfathered in with the unlimited data, I'll try asking a different store if people have heard different.
I just called last thursday, and I was asking about canceling. I was really thinking about going to another carrier, I was interested in getting a Nexus S. I wasn't eligible yet for an upgrade, but they gave me an early one which was great. But I was talking to the guy, and his argument to stay was unlimited data, I said that tiered data was going to happen for them as well. He said he nothing of this, hadn't heard anything at all.
So now this, but who knows maybe they leave their employess in the dark. And maybe they dont read up regularly on engadet and droid-life like I do.
But they really need to get the prices down a bit. Tmobile you can get 500mins, unlimited text and 5gb of data for 79.99, The same thing on verizon would now be like over $100 I could be a bit off, but this could hurt them in the future.

I was dumb for two years on Sprint after the premium data thing, getting an Evo 4G and Evo 3D, neither of which had 4G WiMax in my area, and slow ass 3G speeds of about 1mbit on a good day.
I have an HTC Thunderbolt on VZW at work and I have LTE in my city. Getting upwards of 20mbit down on that, and 2mbit+ on 3G, and we get 22% discount for personal lines from my job for VZW...so yeah...the day my GS3 comes in for VZW, I'll be dropping Sprint (finally). I've had it with all these empty promises. I'll pay an extra couple bucks a month for good service and limit 5GB data.
I considered TMobile and AT&T but neither of them have 4G here. I don't think they even have fauxG.

Looks like TMo has a good deal right now with unlimited minutes & text with 5GB data for $95/mo. The main problem I have with TMo though is that they throttle you after your cap. I'd rather be charged $10 and continue to dl at ridiculous speeds.
So I was browsing Expansys and I saw that I could have the $60 4G plan simcard without having to purchase a phone!! Did anybody try such a simcard and what are your thoughts?

You've been able to buy the SIM card activation kit here for $0.99 (w/ free shipping). And activate it here for free. With any of these plans. For a very very very long time.
We've discussed these plans for hundreds of pages here....
The $60 plan is a great value for people who are looking to buy phones unlocked and not have a contract that costs more every month. On the $60 plan, you get 2GB of full speed HSPA+ data, then are throttled to about 60kbps down / 150kbps up (although you can switch to EDGE and get faster speeds). The $70 plan is the same but has a 5GB throttle threshold. If you have good T-Mobile coverage in your area, you should definitely give the Monthly 4G plans a look.

Don't love it, but unless people start learning how to search and find things out for themselves, I don't mind helping (that much) people out.

But it says I need the IMEI of the phone from tmobile and activation code found with the phone. How am I suppose to get both? Is there a way to activate the sim without having to enter those 2 infos?
And let's say I buy it from Expansys, does Expansys give me the activation code and phone or what? how does it exactly work? Cause I have my prepaid AT&T number and I want to port it to T-mobile monthly 4g plan.
Thanks man I really appreciate you taking time to answer.

The IMEI is from YOUR phone that you want to use, and the activation code comes with the SIM card.
Obviously, since you can buy it from the T-mobile website (linked by martin's post earlier), it'll come with everything you need to activate. Why bother buying from a third party (Expansys) when you can get it direct for 99 cents?
Ah ok, I just bought T-mobile sim card. Thank you guys.
My current T mobile plan is: Unlimited Minutes, Unlimited Text, and Unlimited Data (2GB of 4g, then throttled) for $79.99/month, plus a discount, so I pay $78 every month.
Now I never looked at Verizon plans because I have always heard they were so much more expensive.. so tonight I decide to look into it.. and I don't know If I am looking at them wrong or what..
But I see a plan.. SHARE EVERYTHING UNL TALK & TEXT 4GB $70 0612
Which I would read as Unlimited Minutes, Unlimited Text, and 4GB of LTE/4G Data for $70???
Is this correct or what? If it is that means I can get more with Verizon for less than T-Mobile? OR am I not seeing some extra fees and what not?
and BTW, with the 2GB on T mobile, I never go over, the most I used was about 1.8GB a month.. so I don't need unlimited data.
I just made a plan through their mobile website and it looks like they charge an extra $40 per smartphone on top of the plan price. The total for a 4Gb plan would be $110.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Their "share everything" plans are a great concept, but you probably overlooked the device fee ($40 per smartphone).
They charge a fixed fee for each device that ties into it, and then all devices share all data/voice/text allotments and you simply purchase enough for your combined usage.
It's a great concept for families where everyone uses just a little more than one tier gives them and so instead of all of them having to pay for the next higher tier, they can aggregate and their average ends up with a cheaper combined tier. As an example, if they have a tier at 500MB and everyone uses 600-700MB then they might all have to individually upgrade to the 2GB plan. But, if they combine then they can get away with a single 2GB amongst 3 family members.
One of the big benefits for individual users is that you can share data between your smartphone and your tablet and the tablet only had a $10 fee to buy in. Typically you access things on your tablet or your smartphone, so the usage on both is usually not much higher than the usage on a single plan with one device. Essentially, you could probably get a tablet and add it to your plan for only $10 a month total.
But, at $40 per smartphone I'm not sure how much of a boon it is for families compared to the "add a tablet for $10/month" scenario.
Wow! That's a joke! 40$ a month just because you're using one of their devices, that doesn't even make sense.
So after all the mobile is cheaper

Yea the plans are REALLY deceptive. I think it's $30 per dumbphone and $40 per smart ON TOP of the $70 for the plan. So even when you share with a flip it's almost like adding a whole nother plan. Tmo is cool because you can add lines and NOT give them data/texting.
Yes, Verizon works well if you have three phones and not much data, ie two people is $75 per person shared 4GB. But for three smartphones it would be $64 for 4GB shared. t-mo is cheaper, but omg you better like edge and gprs even.

Actually, I guess it's all depending on your market. I never have any issues anywhere around the Minneapolis area.

Uhhh.. grandfathered with data for one phone 2GB and two flips was $140, shared plan was $170. I went with tmo for $95.
Ohh you said PER PERSON. The difference is huge still.
Yeah I'll just stay away from them. To get the same plan with Verizon that I have with the mobile it would be 100$ plus tax... And right now I pay 78.
When I renew my contract I'll most likely get the 500mins (I checked my bills for the last three months and I never go over) unlimited text and unlimited 4G for 79.99$.
Orrr I might switch to simple mobile... Unlimited everything 50$ a month and they use the t mobile towers. I've had them before and had no problems.

Verizon is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Sprint is probably cheaper than Tmobile for the most part + unlimited, but it's very deceptive advertising as their LTE is hardly rolled out anywhere. Their 3G is almost like Dialup too. Just keep Tmobile.

I've used Sprint for years and their data is PAINFULLY slow. Even "4g" was giving me 1ish Mbps. I switched to VZW and the service is awesome but the cost is really bothering me. I'm currently on VZW paying $75.00 a month for 4gigs of data 450min and 1000 text messages. Every month I go over in texts and it pushes me to $80ish
I just ordered a S2 from Tmo and I'm going to check out the $30.00 prepaid for a couple of weeks to see how well the service compares to VZW. Upon telling my boss this he laughed and told me Tmo sucks in our area and he just switched to VZW from Tmo so I might be stuck on VZW for the forseable future.

I would switch to Verizon but they are just too expensive. 2gb data unlimited mins and text=100$ plus tax.
On tmobile I get that for 78$. And don't have to worry about over fees because t mobile just throttles you. The highest speed test I got was 30mb. But average is 10mb and about 2.5 up

If you want cheap T-Mobile is the way to go. The 2 line unlimited plan for $99 cant be beat, unless you go prepaid. But you probably wouldn't be in the s3 forums if you were wanting prepaid.
If you haven't, try to see if you can get any work discounts. It would probably help a bit on costs.
Lol don't know why people make such a big stink over Verizon. I had them for the last 8-9 years and I switched to Tmobile. It was easier than expected honestly. Sure their network isn't as good as Verizon but it's not so distinctly different where if you put the same phone and did a Web browsing test that someone would tell a difference. If I am downloading a huge rom then it's noticeable but for forum surfing and websites (don't do much more than that at work since... Well I'm working lol and I have wifi at home) its just fine.
It's funny because if you knew me then you would know this doesn't sound like me because I am a spec freak... Also it isn't the cost that bothers me. I work 60 hours a week and I can afford Verizon its just the lack of value. Maybe it's because Verizon doesn't give a **** about its customers and they don't try to hide it. Maybe it's because I do work so many damn hours and if I don't see value in my spending I won't buy it. Idk. Either way I'm thrilled with Tmobile and have no reason to go back. Also, I'm in a sort of crappy Tmobile area where everywhere around me gets 5-25mbs and I'm in the one patch that gets less than 2 lol

For 3 lines with ins.:
Sprint had me at $222 (15% off)
Verizon would have been $228 (25% off data)
Tmobile has me at $180 (15% off)
The speeds are way better than what I had on Sprint even with the EvoLTE and the download speeds are on par with every Verizon phone I have come across. Verizon's upload speeds are faster (like 5 to 2)

Just left sprint for t-mobile, so far so good, I live in Northern New jersey work in queens, haven't had any signal issues yet, strong signal indoors. Defintely a better data experience. I can actuality get a signal and use at my job in LIC. Nice to have functional service. Still have to test in philly where I go a lot, but for right now sprint < tmobile.

Yeah I'm with sprint now. I switched from tmobile from being customer for 6 years. And I gotta say worst mistake!! I'm so upset with the speeds. I mean I cant even get Pandora to work.
Needless to say I will be turning this pretty gs3 back to best buy and cancel my sprint. And reactivate my T-Mobile account.
Can't believe I shot my self in the foot like that.

For some who don't know T-Mobile is undergoing a huge network upgrade so expect some big changes soon with service its only getting better from here guys jump on the Tmo express
I just switched from att to tmo because i was able to get the phone cheaper on value plan (250 down and 20 a month) and mainly because they are the only ones who have good unlimited data, sprint sucks, who knows when lte will eventually be available for sprint...
The plans are really cheap! im on the value plan because i bought the phone outright, but i moved my mom and dad over from att family plan too.
before we were paying about 340 for all 3 unlimited everything, now it comes to 177, and we were able to get 8 percent off every bill because of my fathers company which happens to be on their list. And, we can add my sister for free for 500 minutes and unlimited night, weekends, and mobile to mobile and text.
The question was service, but i didnt care and my parents said that to save like 150 a month, they dont care either. i live in brooklyn, ny. service seems to be pretty good. The data is amazing! Honestly, you dont need more than 5-10 mbps and i get solid 10-15 or sometimes 8. thats amazing! who needs effing LTE! and according to tmo store employees theyll have lte next year.
From what i hear, customer service sucks... i havent had that yet....
My mother does sales, so she drives all over the tri-state area not just in heavily populated areas so it remains to be seen how happy she will be with it... but still Its so freaking cheap it doesnt matter
anyone else's thoughts
We have been with T-Mobile going on 8 years now. Currently have 5 phones on the Classic Unlimited Family plan. The coverage is great, with few dropped calls. Customer service is good, but their Automated Directory is a pain in the [email protected]#$. 1 suggestion to get to a live agent is to say "Loyalty" when asked what you want to do. My biggest grip with them, and I'm sure this goes for the majority of carriers is their Tech Support is worthless.
I switched after 5 years with Sprint. Since they keep dropping support for the device I purchased it was time for a change. Plus with all the same features on the plan I had, I'll pay 147 at Tmo vs 194 at sprint.
And Hspa+ 42 is soooooooo much faster the the wimax I had on my Photon
noted for future reference on my Note 2
I had switched to Sprint for the EVO 3D and the plan at the time seemed like a good deal.. biggest mistake ever leaving T-Mobile.. 3 months of painful service from Sprint... they canceled both contracts, kept the phone, sold em and moved the wife and I back to T-Mobile. Not planning on leaving for the foreseeable future.
The gf had an AT&T iphone and after 2 years and no longer in contract..., she wanted to cancel her $30 dollar dataplan and continue to just use the phone. They said No to her and that she must keep the dataplan. She said she would go to T-mobile. They didn't care and dare her.
So now she's on T-mobile with her iphone, no data plan required. T-mobile is very flexible.
Also Sim based phone > CDMA phone all day. Not only is the resale value higher, you can actually use it outside of the US.
I've been a TMO customer for 10 years. I would disagree with the poster that said their Customer Service is a negative. I haven't called recently other than lighting up the SIM that came with the Note 2 from Wirefly (I wasn't cutting my GS2 SIM) and that went similarly to every other call I have ever had with them. Outstanding every time. The only issue I have ever had with Tmobile is coverage. It sucks at my house so WiFi calling is mandatory IF I care about talking on the phone, I don't. This part of the country is Verizon for excellent coverage. Tmobile struggles in rural areas but again, I don't really care about that. It's rare I find myself in those areas. Customer support, in my experience, has always been a very positive experience.
You can't cancel your data plan on AT&T while on contract, you can pay a min of $25 a month for the data plan. I moved from ATT to Tmobile because of unlimited data. My contract is up with ATT in Jan. Was paying $50 for 5G, $30 unlimited text and on a $69. 99 family plan of 700 min. a month. Screw them... Moved to Tmobile for a valu plan of $79.99 + tax... UNLIMITED EVERYTHING. I don't miss ATT' lte cuz there ain't none in my area and seriously Tmobile runs faster.

Love Tmobile. I'm on their prepaid Monthly4G $30/mo plan. Can't beat it. Sure i only get 5GB of 4G data, but with WiFi all day at work and at home, I don't really need the unlimited data.
I've been reading a lot about some of the carriers LTE and how TMO is faster. What I have heard is TMO is going LTE sometime next year, I'm hoping this doesn't effect our current speed?

at&t is so stupid........you can't even cancel your data plan even if you're not on contract. Smartphone = data plan REGARDLESS.
That's why I have T-Mobile even though I work for at&t.
I have 5 smartphones on my plan but only have data plans on 2 of them. My kids only use data wherever there is wifi. Why can't at&t understand that I don't know but T-Mobile does.

This is true. They won't let you cancel your data plan even if you're off contract. If you're using any smart phone, they required you get a data plan. lol. Plus i think they have a 2GB data cap on their LTE and if you go over, they charge for it.
OP, I was in a smilar boat as you. Transferred the fam over to value and have 4 great lines for less than $140. I thought service would suck compqred to AT&T, but quite the opposite. The only carrier coverage and speed envy I have is for VZW, but with their dumb CDMA, locked bootloaders, and double high prices they can keep it lol.
Very happy Tmo customer for the last 14 months.
