Dear All
I need some help
Got a new HTC One XL today (UK, Everything Everywhere)
Unlocked the bootloader using HTC Dev
Tried to flash recovery (recovery-clockwork-5.8.4.0-endeavoru.img)
Now I get the "This build is for development purposes only ...."
I can sometimes get to the bootloader but the PC does not recognise the phone when it goes into bootloader
When i choose recovery it boots back to the splash screen with "This build is for development purposes only ...." again
I am lost for things to do now and desperately some help
Let me know - thanks
Caolfin
You're in the wrong forum, this is for the Tegra 3 One X - you need to go to the AT&T forum...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1538
Out of interest though, what build version does the phone run (if you noticed)?

Augh no - sorry about that !
I didnt take a note of the build version I'm afraid - is there a reason for asking the question that would help me ??
You're the first person I've seen with a One XL and I was wondering whether it has an EU software build as the only other XL I've seen was in Australasia and that has an Asian build. Curiosity more than anything.
I take it your device says 'Evita' in the bootloader and not 'Endevoru'?

Yes, it says EVITA in the bootloader screen
I am seeing plenty of the bootloader screen - this thing wont even normal boot into the phone software any more ;( I'm devastated !
You're going to need to get the right recovery.img but it's dependent on the ROM version you're running...There are fastboot commands that might work...
fastboot getvar mainver
That will list the build, then we can hopefully go from there

Hey, thank you so much
I tried that and have got the following
mainver : 2.34.61.2
I will try a search of the forums for th recovery img for this build but would really appreciate your help ?
So it's running an Orange build - interesting...
I'm having a look about, can't promise anything but we'll see
Noob Alert
Hi, I Just picked up the HTC One X earlier last month and decided that I wouldn't root until I realized that there's certain apps I use that won't run without root (sixaxis controller for example) so after I had already updated to 4.1.1, I figured that I'd enable USB debugging and so that I could receive root access using Hasoon 2000's simple all in one toolkit, however I can't get the xFactor root exploit that changes your CID working..
I'll get prompted to restore first backup, which doesn't work (starts, then ends immediately), it automatically tries a second time, then sends me to the bootloader. I then get prompted to check my CID before I proceed, and it still hasn't changed from my original 'Rogers01" CID to the 1111-sequence of numbers. I have the latest HTC drivers installed for my One X..
Anyone have a clue on what's going on here? Could this be happening because I updated?
You have an evita or a endeavoru ?
Dual-core of quad-core phone ?
I have the Dual core for sure, I think that's the evita?
Ah yes, then you are in the wrong forum. Don't flash anything from this forum !

Nvm, checked the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1538
these are all my specs..
Those are all codenames. If the bootloader say EVITA you need to be in the one XL forum
I bought this one x which comes with locked bootloader, no root,
Stock recovery with s off and super CID(111111). It is prompting an ota update to 1.28.708.10
Is it alright to install the OTA? Will I lose S-off or the super CID? Any harm in flashing
the OTA with S-Off?
No just install it. 1.28 software is very old btw ! Jellybean latest software is already up to 3.14 - 3.20 .....
And you cant have S-OFF on your Device, only unlocked bootloader
And yes you can update

there are a few places, using official htc software, in china that you can send your HOX to get s-off, some people did, sold their devices and some lucky guy got it, there are of course the preview devices that were sent to sites, magazines and some devs with s-off from HTC, so yes, there are s-off'ed HOXs running in the wild, if I could I would send mine too.
Some phones come back from repair with s-off.....some come out the factory with s-off.....
Just happend to some !
You can also run the 3.14.708 ruu which you can download from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2189048
Then you have stock JB software on your phone.
Thanks a lot guys! I am OTAing at the moment, installing the 3.14.708.28 right now, Chinese people have a way to get phones s-off and super CID. Not sure exactly how they do it but I got it like this, it is refurbished though. So basically after unlocking the bootloader, root and a custom recovery I can flash a rom just like old gen phones.. Copy the zip to sd, perform wipes and install zip from sd.. No need to flash the boot.img seperately from fastboot.. Is that true?
Basically its true yes, but.....many rom devs took out the boot.img flash script because not many people have a s-off device.
Do if you hit a bootloop its wise to flash the boot.img manually
Thanks a lot for the information Mr Hofs, really appreciate it!
So all is fine now ?

Not sure anymore, but what you need to do is to start the conversations about this phone in the hox + section because it can be confusing for hox owners.

You do know that my comment is from 2013, yes?
lol
So, if you're S-OFF you can flash the radio separately if I remember correct.
But, despite it being a beautiful phone with a good camera and arguably
the best form factor ever with the three capacitive buttons that can be
swiped for screen on-off and the 2.5D display,
it's a REALLY old phone, and unless you got it for under 70 bucks
it's not worth the money and the time unless you're an enthusiast and you want the experience of owning it.
if you flash a stock RUU I believe you will lose s-off or maybe it won't even flash. Do some research on both HOX and HOX+ forums since they run similar chipset(the + is just factory oveclocked).

I meant the entire ruu..I only mentioned the radio as I see that evitare only has three ruu. I thought if we were s off, we could run any regional ruu. As long as it's meant for this device

I can't remember anymore, it's been 4 years since I last played with the HOX, I believe that all the procedures remain the same since it's an older device and noone bothered to look into it more since it was running a Tegra chip, that made it a difficult device to work with as for example NVIDIA never open sourced the kernel and everything had to be written from zero.
Being S-OFF on the HOX just gives you the luxury of flashing radios separately and engineering bootloaders (I think) and being able to return the phone to untampered for warranty purposes.
I know I'm not a big help but this is the reason I turned to Qualcomm based devices that are easier to get custom kernels and ROMs then.
Also bear in mind that I'd spend dozens of hours researching for that device progressively with the development so I could see the steps on new things one by one, there's probably a megathread with all that info somewhere in here.
EDIT: Why do you need a different region RUU? Do you need to keep it stock? There aren't any updates anymore, if you like the stock look try Android Revolution ROM by mike1986, it's not being developed anymore but it's a great rom with great battery life and all the HTC goodness without anything else bogging it down.
I'd love to get my hands on an S-off hox+ or even a normal one. that feeling it had in your hands was amazing.
I recently took a backup in clockworkmod, as I installed a new ROM.
Now I want to go back, as that ROM was bad, and I like the old one better.
I then went to Clockworkmod, then restore the old backup and rebooted. It was stuck at booting, and wouldn't do anything.
I then cleared cache, wiped data and factory settings and restored the backup again.
Same issues.
I then cleared cache and rebooted again... Same issue
Anyone know what I did wrong? I would like to know what to do...
Thanks in advance!

One X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting
Why is this the wrong forum?
AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL
Trust me. This is not the right forum for you, the title is a bit confusing because at&t and Rogers market this phone as the One X, but it's actually the One XL. You need to use the device search window at the top of the page to find your forum.

So what's the difference between my HTC One X and this forum's HTC One X?
Your phone has the quad core tegra CPU. This forum's phone has a dual core qualcomm CPU and LTE. Software, hardware, and partitions are not the same and therefore not compatible. Plus, nobody on this forum has any experience with your device so we can't offer any guidance.
Your phone: HTC One X (codename Endeavor)
My phone: HTC One XL (codename Evita)
This may seem confusing but this forum is strictly for the One XL. It only says One X in the title because some carriers stupidly marketed this device as the One X, it causes a bit of confusion.
I've asked for this thread to be moved to the appropriate device forum so the people there can help you out.
Also, my advice to you is to find your device's forum, bookmark it, and stay in it. If you flash any software found on this forum you could brick your phone.

Well that be damned... My phone wasn't even indexed, so when I did CTRL+F and looked for One X, this was the only forum I could find.
Oh well... I'll send the phone in for repair (after I've installed stock ROM and un-rooted it).. We'll see if I get a new phone, as the WiFi card has a faulty connector, and only provides half WiFi signal.
So either I'll get a new One X, or a new One (I hope I'll get a One instead).
Take care, and thanks

It is indexed where it should be, you're supposed to use the device search box to find your device and make sure you're getting stuff from the right place. Searching and getting software etc from the wrong spot is a sure fire way to damage your device.

Hi guys, I just got my HTC One X, shiny and all, but came updated to 4.1.1.
I want to downgrade to ICS (4.0.4) for certain reasons, but I'm not sure how.
I searched and found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1921781
But that thread doesn't seem right as I don't have a nandroid backup of ICS.
---
Is it possible to downgrade from 4.1.1 to 4.0.4 here? Assuming I am planning to unlock my bootloader using the tool here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604439&highlight=4+1+1
Well actually before you unlock the bootloader you can check the software number ! Not all phones are capable of running a 4.0.4 rom because of the updated touchdrivers.
If the software number is higher than 3.16 you can't revert to 4.0.4
Yes, that's true, i tried. ICS will flash and phone will boot but touch won't work so you can't use your phone. Because we don't have s-off we can't downgrade hboot (firmware) so you can't do anything about it, unfortunately.
Unfortunately my software number is 3.16. Looks like I'm out of luck.
Unless my phone has S-Off?
By the way, why is there "S-Off" option in the AIO toolkit found here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604439
Attached is a photo.
On photo it says that's for Htc one x Evita, not for ours (Endeavour).
You can easily check if you are s-off: boot into recovery and see if it say s-on or s-off.
3.16 can run ics mate

I haven't gotten to flashing recovery because I don't want to make a wrong move. For example, I was going to use that toolkit for the Evita I just linked to you.
But I wasn't aware of the evita/endeavour info you just told me of.
So I downloaded Hardware Info from the playstore, lo and behold, my HTC One X is Evita.

Sorry, that was a typo, it's 3.18.
Knowing my device is Evita though, do I have to downgrade my hboot to get to ICS?
Edit :
Evita can be s-offed and downgraded indeed. Then you can run ics roms.
But do it in the right forum. At&t forum
Sorry, i meant to reboot into bootloader, not recovery, you can see there what is your device, is it s-off or s-on, hboot version...
