I almost always have trouble synching to my PC. I connect the USB, the PC makes the bong-bong sound. My phone reads USB connected. I hit Turn On USB, then OK to Turn On USB Storage. I get "USB storage in use" but cannot see it on my PC and can't move files. Again, this is almost every time, which is odd. Every so often it does work.
I'm using Windows 7. I have tried multiple SD cards and cables and USB ports. If I connect the SD cards to my PC with a card reader, it works every time. As per T-Mobile, I have tried with debugging both on and off, no difference. The USB cables do charge the phone.
Does anyone have solutions I can try?

Hi,
I bought an used Dash and when I try to sync it through ActiveSync nothing happens. I tried to intiate the sync from the Dash and nothing happens either.
Basically, nothing happens when I connect it to the USB port in the PC. It doesn't try to sync, the PC doesn't see a new unit or anything else that happens when you connect something to the USB. I used to have another Dash sync'd to the same computer and everything was fine.
Is it possible that the usb port in this Dash is broken? is there any way to verify it? I've tried with two different cables that I know they work and plugging it in different USB ports in the PC.
Thanks.

PD: the Dash does charge through the usb cable. And after charging for a bit, I can see that the battery is full, led is green.

Check this:
on the dash
Start menu
Settings
Connections
More
USB to PC
remove the check-box in the advanced connection setting
save and try again
also... are you running a firewall? if so, that's quite likely a problem as well. i run comodo and it blocks the connection. i haven't figured out the proper setting yet to allow the phone through so i just shut comodo off when i'm needing to access the phone from my computer.
When you plug your usb cable into your phone, does the light on the top turn either amber or green? If so, usb connection is working. If it is still not syncing, open Activesync on your PC got to tools-connectionsettings and make sure Allow usb connections is checked.
Is there a way to ply the TP2 into a desktop USB running XP and have the ability to access the storage card or the device? Do not want to Install Active Sync. Maybe just want to copy some files or something without having to remove the storage card.
If you plug the device into your computer, you should see a selection screen that gives you the option for ActiveSync, Disk Drive, and Internet Sharing. Simply choose the second option and the MicroSD card will be mounted in Windows as a removable disk. If this dialog does not pop up, go to Start>Settings>Connections>USB to PC and choose the Disk Drive mode. The only limitation of this is that your PC can only access the MicroSD (not the internal NAND), and the device cannot access the MicroSD while it is mounted in Windows. However, file transfers will be noticably faster than with ActiveSync, and ActiveSync will not actually be needed to access the device. HTH

Thanks. I had forgotten about the USB Connections settings and I had it set to always ActiveSync. Changed it to "ask" and I can access the storage card. Would love to look at the file on the device, but guess you need activesync or some software on the desktop for that. thanks again.

You meant to say "Plug and Pray" instead of "Plug and Play"?
I've tried checking and unchecking the ask option, but I do not get the popup when I plug in my usb cable. I can't activeSync. The only hints that the computer even recognizes it is the ding of plugging it in/out and "PocketPC USB Sync" shows up under Mobile Devices in device manager.
EDIT: I can get it to work as Disk Drive, just not as ActiveSync.

do you have activesync (windows mobile device center?? for vista) software installed on you desktop?
i run xp and have activesync 4.5 on my desktop. i had problems but then noticed my mini usb cable was not secure. i have my device set to charge when connected usb and the charge light was not always amber. found a better cable and used a different usb on my computer (the problem was with the connection to the desktop). that has fixed all my activesync problems.
but i have had problems in the past with the dialog box not popping upasking if i want active sync or disk drive. some people say there tp2 has a third option os internet sharing, mine does not. try a soft reset, check the cable, uninstallin and reinstall the desktop software and see what happens. oh yeah, what are your setting under activesync on your device, in programs?

Which OS are you using?
Also, there is a setting in the communications setup - USB to make the Activesync connection slow or fast. Try the slow setting.

at some point when you plugged in your device, did you happen to select the option that says "never ask again" if so, you will get no notification that it's plugged in. Active sync page wont even open. That's how I got mine set up 'cause I got tired of always having to select whether I want to do Active sync or disk drive.
Already tried reformatting Windows and installing any and all drivers I could find.
When I connect my EVO to my PC via the USB cable, the connection type window appears, the amber light turns on, and it shows up on my PC for ~2 seconds. Then it disappears. I have been unable to keep it connected.
It works on other PCs I've tried, just not mine for some odd reason. (Any other USB item works fine), and I've tried multiple USB ports.
Any ideas?
I had this exact issue when I was going through a non-powered USB hub. As soon as I plugged it into my computer's direct USB plug no issues. How old is the computer you are trying to plug this into? Is is USB 2.0? I'm on windows 7 64bit if that helps. Hope you get this fixed, it's annoying as hell.
Forgot to mention, this is on Windows 7 x64 as well.
Im using the ports on my mobo, and its a rather new mobo (XFX 780i). Tried every single port =\
my Evo wont connect to CPU any more ive tried reading all the other threads but still not working
I just want to flesh out some of the details here.
Is the phone charging when you plug it into the computer?
Is there any activity from your PC or the phone when you select "Disk Drive" from the USB menu? (Like maybe a USB error/not connected sound in Windows).
Are you able to access or see it through ADB using the SDK?
Does it work on any other computers?
Have you done anything recently? Did it just happen today?
usb connection not working
I'm having the same problem--my original usb cable was damaged, and I just bought a new (generic) one. Does the EVO require a special type of cable rather than just a standard micro usb?
Here's the details:
USB Debugging is enabled.
Phone is set to ask for connection type (default is disk drive).
Phone charges when plugged into the PC but the computer doesn't recognize it.
In the notification bar, there is the usb debugging icon, but not the other one that usually says charge only/disk drive, etc.
ADB doesn't see the phone.
So far I haven't been able to get to another computer to see if it does the same thing. I tried disabling usb debugging, no effect.
update
Ok, yesterday I got my phone replaced because the screen was damaged. I also got a new usb cable; this one specifically for the EVO. Same thing. I plug it into the computer, and it charges, but the PC doesn't recognize it, and the phone just seems to think it's plugged into an AC adapter. The phone is set to ask what to do whenever I connect it to a PC. Since this is a brand new phone and cable, I would think this would have to be a computer issue, but the PC doesn't seem to recognize that anything has even been connected.
Update: solved--it was the usb port. For some reason the usb ports on my pc case stopped working; plugged into one of the back panel ports and it works fine.
Any microsd cable will work, I'm using my palm pre's now, my htc cable went out a month ago.
I
Chevk device manager whole you are plugging your phone in. just in case there is some bad driver issue, it should show there.

Had my A70 since July time, no issues so far, except for now. First time I needed to connect to my PC, Win 10 comes up with the 'WIndows didn't recognise the device' error. Have tried 2 different USB cables thinking it might be that but no different. Then I plugged my partners identical phone into the PC and it recognised it straight away so am assuming that there's no issue with the PC itself in terms of drivers etc. USB configuration/connections settings on both phones are identical, i. e. 'Transferrring files'. Tried Developer options with USB debugging on, I get connection sounds but eventually the error message on the PC. Anyone had similar or any ideas what the issue with my phone might be because i'm stumped?
OK, sussed it. With phone connected to PC I turned it OFF. Then turned it on again still connected. PC recognised something as an ADB device and said I needed to restart the PC, which I did. On restart, Device manager showed a Samsung Mobile USB Composite device connected but still didn't show in Windows Explorer. I disconnected the phone from PC and then plugged it back in again, this time I got a message on the phone asking me if I wanted to allow connections, I pressed 'Allow' and there it was.
Didn't have to do this with my partners phone so have no idea why mine should be any different!
