Managed to crack my digitizer yesterday so I need to bring my baby into the AT&T Warranty Center.
I can't find the an AT&T stock ROM posted anywhere here, does it matter which 'stock' it is or can it be international stock?
Thanks

The problem was I wasn't sure if an non-AT&T stock ROM would be caught and have them void my warranty. I could find International Stock and other unmarked stock, however, I wanted to make sure that my warranty would be in tact. Thank you for providing me with links, however.

I would not risk taking a rom'ed phone in for returns. I would follow the links posted. Not worth the hassel trying to explain everything to them.

If I'm not mistaken, you can't take a broken phone into the warranty center. I tried to take a friends in and the manger said it had physical damage. They'll replace anything that had to do with hardware problems. Phone not turning on, connector problems, etc. But you can try and c what happens! So if you have insurance you'll probably have to go about it that route. :banghead:

yeah, that isn't warranty so I don't know why you would waste time taking it there. It is damaged and a damage claim doesn't care if you are rooted, or Rom flashed or whatever. You will be purchasing a new phone or paying an insurance deductible.
Is there a new program that just replaces the screen for cheaper than the deductible on insurance?

Does anyone know the official root policy at At&t? I waited about 3 months to root my Galaxy S but I want to root and flash mine now without worrying about the warranty in case I screw it up.
Root voids warranty... Just flash back to stock for warranty purposes you can get the odin tar at wwww. Samsung- updates. Com

It should, but I don't think it matters.
The way I understand it goes as follows: The terms of your warranty are set by Samsung. When you bring a phone to your AT&T store to have it replaced under warranty, AT&T is simply taking that phone and returning it to Samsung for you. The Samsung warranty clearly states that rooting your phone violates your warranty.
Despite that, when I called the support number and asked several people at AT&T, all of them assured me that rooting does not void my warranty. I even made one of the people I spoke with email it to me in writing, for what it's worth. I ended up deciding that it shouldn't really matter though because:
1. It is really easy to root without tripping the counter, and
2. If you go into the store to use your warranty, do you really think the person there will know what the binary counter is, no less how to check it? And if Samsung ends up saying that your phone's warranty was voided, AT&T takes the loss, not you.

So if the warranty is voided according to Samsung, at&t will still replace it?

You can unroot/reset the flash counter so why risk submitting a phone that is rooted?
Just unroot and return it to stock first to avoid any hassle - even if some AT&T reps tell you it's ok they are not the decision makers and are OFTEN wrong/mis-informed.

What if your phone has been rooted, and the phone will not power on at all. Will I still be able to return and be covered under warranty?
Will AT&T be able to tell that the device has been rooted if it won't power on at all? (I flashed a rom for the 19300 accidentally)

Ouch! Well, you can only try and see but if it they tell you that "You bricked it, you bought it" you don't really have any options.

Luckily I am still under the Manufacturer's Warranty, and they replaced it with no problem. Although they did ask me if my device was rooted. I just told them "No" and crossed my fingers.
UItimately they replaced the phone. Thank you for you quick response.
With any luck they'll just go straight to re-imaging it and overwrite everything without bothering to look too closely at it. Then it would be sold or made a warranty replacement as a refurb and everything will work out. I'm sure this isn't the first time someone has brought them a brick and hopefully they're not bothered enough by it to look very closely at what happened to it.
However, I would take a closer look at what ROM you're flashing on which flavor of SGS 3 this time around. Bring in more than one brick and even the slowest sales person might get to wondering!
If you get lucky and the AT&T employee is a good person and your phone is having a hardware issue that could never be caused by root, they sometimes don't care about your phone being rooted. It has happened toa friend of mine.

Hello. I got my note2 a few weeks back and now I'm noticing that the screen has two Black lines when late in the night and lighting is low. It's really annoying so I called Samsung Greece and they told me that If I went there they would fix it for me in about an hour depending on if they have the needed parts. (Does Samsung check for custom ROMs and stuff like that when sending a phone to service? Because if they don't i won't have to backup and restore and all that)So, how can I go completely back to stock 4.1.2 with stock bootloader and how can I restore all my apps and ROM when they return my phone? How can i reset the flash counter and basically remove anything that may disable my warranty?
I'm running
*DN3 4.3 3.2 ROM
*MJ5 BL
*TWRP 2.3.6.1
If you need any more info tell me. Thanks in advance for your help.

If you have bought your device less then 6 months ago then you are under legal warranty which guarantees the repair of hardware issues if you are not responsible for that issue, no matter if you are rooted or run a custom rom. If you don't believe me, ask a lawyer nearby! (Afaik only in the European Union!)
Otherwise you can restore by flashing firmware but pay attention that you don't flash the BL, reset counter with "triangle away" buyable in the playstore and unroot the device. Good luck!

@Androidwizzard thanks a lot for your reply. I bought this phone no more than 1 month. I'm from Greece. So I can just take my phone there(service) and not worry about being rooted and running a custom ROM at all? Because if that's the case that's some great news. And no I'm not responsible for the issue, I heard this is a common problem with Super amoled screens but can't really remember how the problem is called. Anyway thanks a lot and waiting for your reply patiently.

You have the right to get it repaired either by your trader or by samsung, just ask a pal, who studies or has studied law in your country. You can also use google to find it. I have only studied your ancient language, so I can't do it for you. It IS European law in the Union. Best wishes from our law firm in Austria :fingers-crossed:

You are talking about your country, but we are in Europe, where law is different and we need no warranty from Samsung. Within six months the trader has to repair hidden hardware issues, no matter how many times a rom is flashed or knox flag has turned to x1. In English both is called warranty and we are talking about warranty origin in European law. A customer secure regulation.

Im currently running 4.4.2 with knox free bootloader and im happy with it but my screen is shattered and has been for awhile. Im really ready to have a phone with new glass but dont know what option to take.
1. Keep phone I have and pay 160 to get glass replaced. (or do it myself / not too comfortable taking this job on. The screen is shattered pretty bad)
2. Take advantage of warranty and return phone and hope that insurance gives me the same model and knox free bootloader (the later of the two is unlikely at this point right? as all refurbs have been updated?)
3. Keep shattered screen phone as is and wait another year to get new device. (I really dont want to take this option)
I want to be able to flash roms and create backups. I dont want to be one with KNOX 0x1. What option would you take? Let me know if there's one I missed?
Thanks :good::good:

I personally would just get the screen replaced. Either do it myself (after watching a few tear-down videos numerous times) or try to find somewhere that will fix it for cheaper than $160.
I don't know how it works, but how exactly could a shattered screen be a warranty claim? I can see an insurance claim, but a warranty claim?

Yeah. I would replace it myself but it seems that using LOCA in between the new glass and old digitizer is the only way to go and that process seems risky. I cant find any places around here (Austin, TX) that will do it for cheaper than that. Most of the places only replace the digitizer and glass b/c the process of separating the two is more work.
I meant insurance claim. Sorry bout that.

Yeah, I dread the day I bust my screen... I know it'll happen, just a question of "when." You have quite the predicament. I still say I'd go the route of either doing it myself or getting it done. This would be a sure-fire way to not catch the KNOX-pox. Worse comes to worse and you mess the phone up... insurance claim and hope you don't get one with KNOX.
I thought knox was only for warranty checking. If you hey a replaced device with knox, you should still be able to root install custom recovery and flash away you'll just have a tripped knox.

That is correct. To my knowledge, Items received through an insurance claim have no warranty. So if anything were to happen to it, you can simply make an insurance claim on it. You pay for the insurance, so they can't deny you.

Just do a warranty swap, trust me when I say T-Mobile does not care for any of that (as long as you dont have an absurd splash screen or boot aniamtion)
Yeah Im trying to replace the phone with T-Mobile. I have to ship it to them, and I don't want them to find out I rooted the phone and voided the warranty.
Try a 24 volt AC power adapter... Like from an old sprinkler timer. Strip an inch or so off the leads, jam one lead in the headphone jack and the other in the SD slot. Or go between the power port and the SD slot. Or some combination thereof. It oughta brick the hell out of it! I've roasted a few pieces of electronics that way.
Being this is a metal chassis phone, I might wear gloves when you do it. Or hook it up to an outlet with a light switch so you can remote control the fireworks.

It does! Just modify the updater script a bit. I accidentally flashed it and took it to a service center, they had no clue what went wrong. They ended up giving me a new phone. Or, just corrupt an M8 ROM

How do I corrupt a ROM?
Easiest way to brick the phone would be to download a kernel from a completely different device, remove the assert check from the updater script, and flash it. Should brick the phone in no time.

Don't know if it's possible since most recoveries verify the MD5. But editing the important files of the ROM may work. Or, is chrome said, download a kernel for a different phone. Or, a modem. But those will destroy your phone and there'd be no going back.

I'm getting a replacement through warranty with T-Mobile. I called them and told them that the phone wouldn't turn on or display any LEDs, or anything, and that I already tried charging it. And they said that they would send me a replacement for $20. The $20 is to cover shipping to my house and from my house to them, so I don't mind it. But that's only if your phone isn't cracked or water damaged, exc. I do that if/when I hard brick my phones. This time it's because I ****ed up with flashing something, and now my phone doesn't get signal from T-Mobile, and since my phone is rooted, S-Offed, and on GPE RUU, I can't go back to complete stock until an RUU is available for the T-Mobile variant.

Gaining root most always technically voids all warranties. I have always unrooted in those situations. With physical damage they might not even check. When I got a replacement for my S5 they didn't even want it in person. Just sent a new one, and I sent back the old one in the mail. So maybe initiating it online would help you.

OP asked about insurance, not warranty. Warranty doesn't cover physical damage by the user.
It technically does void insurance but they don't check your system for root when it's a simple screen replacement. They don't even need the unit to be on. Ask me how I know!

Because I cracked my screen and took the phone in to Best Buy and I conveniently left my battery at home and the geek squad guy told me it wasn't an issue because they didn't need to turn it on to replace the screen.
