So I've kind of decided to attempt to flash a ROM again in this phone.
Some of you may remember my previous problems months ago, running into a boot loop caused by the updated radio version (i thought). But when I flashed the old radio and tried to flash a ROM again, same thing happened, so since then I've left it alone.
What might I have been doing wrong?
I used the All in one kit last time to easily unlock my bootloader and root the phone, that's the easy part.
The hard part is not soft bricking r thing.
Is a cricket device handled differently?
Thanks for any advice (Idk if this is posted on the right area)

Picked up my US (T-mo)Defy last month, it was running Eclair.
I've been reading as much as I could before I attempted to do anything that voids my warrenty. I couldn't wait for the US Froyo release...
So I rooted with SuperOneClick because z4root did not seem to work. Then I got clockwork installed. My first attempt was to install Jboogie3's "beta4Offical" thinking it would keep Eclair and just clean up this blur nonsense. But when I used clockwork recovery, it just hung. No worries, I've still got a working phone.
Next I attempted "JBoogie3 Deblur Honey" and that put me in a boot loop <that was a Oh ****! moment>. Since I could still get into stock recovery and bootloader, I was not too worried. I happen to have the T-mo OTA update.zip on my Defy, so I attempted to flash/install that...but I got the "status 7" error (I think b/c it was still rooted). Since I wanted my phone back that night, I went ahead and installed 3.4.2_145(Finland) .sbf (I think...it was late) with RSD Lite. Anyhow, it got me back up! I had saved my APN earlier, so things were working, but still stock.
Not leaving well enough alone, I figured "why the hell not" and rooted->clockwork and then recovered to "JBoogie3 Deblur Honey". That worked this time.
Happy as a clam now. I was worried about the "H" for my network, but I did speedtests and browsed around and I'm getting 800-100kbps and I can live with the "H"...like a sleeper!
I'm gonna continue to read and try new "roms" (I'm still wet behind the ears on the terms).
I also did it wrong when I tried to restore the orange recovery, and ended up flashing the orange sbf. But its working well and I'm happy as well.
i also own the phone from less than a month and i also messed up everything , install 3.4.2 before reading about non downgreadable....... rooted 3.4.2 finland installed clockwork , took a nandroid backup of 2,34 trying to restore to official 2.1 eclair version it restored and i was happy but no luck it got me on the bootloop....... now i am flashing to 3.42 but not finland ... its uk version hope it works and the phone dont dies.......
by the way my moto swimmed already but its fine ... its very cool to watch your phone at the bottom of water sparkling v ery tough on the outside hope i wont kill it from the inside
edit: installed the uk blur rom but it doesnt give the starting options (LANGUAGE) to change them... now its in german , and reset factory settings doesnt work pushing the button button but it dingoes nothing.... crap , reseting with system recovery also doest help resets but its in german again
Thanks for the report, im relatively new to the defy as well ( just over a week now ) and at some time i will probably start looking into the various roms+upgrades.
the only thing holding me back is the official 2.2 update is due soon ( apparently )
and im not sure if i would be able to return back to my current settings/ version 2.1 should i need to.
New to android, new to Moto-Defy
Fellow Defy users,
Greetings of peace!
I am noob here in the xda developers
First off, really don't want to spam threads.. So I chose to post my message here in this thread for a semi-short explanation of what I want to share.
I am new to the android phones (previously a symbian user), and I just got my new Motorola Defy - Black which I bought here in the Philippines.
I bought 2 models actually one for myself and one for my brother as he requested one as well.
To cut the chase..I just want to share some inputs.
To my shock, the phone has some mods already as I opened it.
**take note that the battery is sealed and all other stuffs are sealed when I got the phone*
It has adobe flash player 10 (not flash lite)
Super User
R. Explorer
ITFUNZ (which is all in chinese)
UC Browser
I believe this are the things needed to "root" your phone.
I heard it's better when your phone is rooted.
android version 2.2.1 Froyo
And the as of my brother's phone, no additional apps as mentioned above.
Android version 2.1 eclair
** Noticed that my camera is better than his and has slightly a different camera interface**
I heard that it's cooler to have a rooted android phone and I hope you can enlighten me with my curiosities.
1. My phone has a 3 day replacement warranty and 1 year Motorola service warranty, should I return the device since it's rooted? Or Should I keep it to save me of the hassle since I would like to root anyway in the future.
2. Prior to question 1, do I lose/void the Motorola warranty since it's already rooted the day I purchased it?
3. I know it’s possible to unroot my device, my concern is that the ITFUNZ and R.Explorer applications are in Chinese. How am I able to understand and access.. “just” in case I need access to these files
The seller told me that the models they’re selling are open to all network or factory unlocked which are processed already by their suppliers.
That’s true since my bro’s phone is opened to all network. Maybe mine was just special because it was already rooted.
Here are the details of my MOTO-DEFY (Setting>Applications>about)
**I hope some one can give me information on each item so I can get a head start working with my phone**
System Version
Version.34.0.117.MB525.Retail.en.GB
Model Number
MB525
Android version
2.2.1
Baseband version
EPU93_U_00.56.00
Kernel Version

Build number
ITFUNZ_DEFY_Eclipse_CN_Base_UK_SP1
Well that’s it for now. I’m just reading and reading more threads to feed my knowledge. (sometime reading to much information confuses already your understanding)
Thanks for reading my post and it will be highly appreciated for you masters out there to give a helping hand on how to maximize and enjoy our Moto-Defy.

I am (unfortunately) running this Rom on my second (first was a portable hand warmer) One X on T-Mobile.
I have basically unlocked the bootloader and applied (seemingly the temporary) Clockwork mod which I got off Modaco. I checked with a Root Check app and everything is ok and SU is present.
But i've literally spent my day off trying to get another rom on this thing, tried some official roms, older versions, similar versions, newer ones, they always fail on flashing. Nothing seems to work.
Seems things have gotten difficult since I was slapping imate Rom's on Orange SPV's !
Anyone succesfully updated this ROM ?
cheers
I would like to know this too, have same ROM.
I got myself a wildfire s a short while ago, so I could teather my galaxy tab 10.1 (my S2 was stolen). It seemed a good idea at the time, to get a cheap, small Android phone, for this purpose and just making phonecalls.
I knew the phone had limited storage, but at the time wasn't really an issue.
I unboxed it, started it up, put my sim card in, and away I went. ( I bought it sim - free brand new from carphone warehouse )
once set up, it informed me there was an ota update, which went fine, no problem. I continued to set the phone up with my favorite softwares, and everything was great.
This is where the problem started.
A few weeks later, It told me there was new update, so update i _TRIED_ . And failed. It told me that the firmware on the phone was not HTC, and would not be updated.
Not a problem, I dont care, i thought. It does all i need to do, and I didnt really want to do a full reset on it, so I didnt bother for a couple of months, it was fine.
Eventually, I started to find the tiny storage quite irritating, so got myself a class 10 8GB SD card, and looked into using somthing like Data2SD.
No problem, Iv rooted a few phones, so did the required reading into getting root and s-off. Easy ( I thought ).
I took myself off the htc dev, to download the unlocked bootloader today, and attempted to install. UH-OH.. Error 190 .. Wrong firmware version.
I decided now was as good a time as any to hard reset, as it would happen anyway, and retry the ota update..... FAIL!
I contacted HTC, and they said I would have to send off for repair ( I guess I could, its stock, unmodded in any way yet ) but that would mean I would be without my phone.
then I tried this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445867&page=1
didnt work. I need the new 2.33.401.3 software, but im stuck on 1.33.401.3 (Android 2.3.3)
Is there a way to root and s-off the older firmware as HTC DEV now require you to have the newer firmware to unlock the bootloader, or atleast manually flash the newer firmware??
Plz help me, before i chuck my phone in the sink!
Thanks,
Dave
Get the RUU of 2.13.401.whatever from somewhere (You'll find it in the 'Shipped marvel rom collection' at the top of the dev section) and run that first before you you run the unlockable bootloader one and tell us what happens
This worked perfectly. Thankyou. I downloaded the HTC EU rom, for 2.13.401.3, Flashed it in, and the rest worked.
Thanks again,
Dave
Hi, digitalwarfare
you flashed this
RUU_Marvel_S_HTC_Europe_2.13.401.3_Radio_47.23c.35.3037_7.54.39.28M_release_236989_signed.exe
or this
Marvel_S_HTC_Europe_2.13.401.3_Radio_47.23c.35.3037_7.54.39.28M_release_236989_signed_ROM.zip
What are the differences, please?
Hi all, Its been almost 2 years since i did an OTA update on my play and bricked it. Using the first patch that came out to fix this problem of phone not booting, i "destroyed" the bootloader or something or RadioRom and my phone does not accept any sim. it was originally unlocked.
Has anyone come up with a way to revive the play to make calls or something. cos its really depressing having a phone jus lying there wasting away, only to be brought out when needed for navigation or games.
Someone please helppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp
Assuming your radio/sim is in working condition, I don't particularly see how bricking your phone can cause the phone to act like that. Have you tried flashing the stock firmware on again after it was bricked? And have you tried reunlocking the phone and putting on a custom rom/kernel?

about 2 years back, shortly after this phone came out, a problem was noted with OTA updates on unlocked bootloader.
The phone was bought "sim-free" or factory unlocked depending on which nomenclature is correct.
With an unlocked bootloader, the OTA update caused the phone to go dead.
in a haste to get the phone working again, a patch was released which broke the radio rom but got your phone to boot again. i believe the initial patch was released by BLAGUS.
well that killed my radio and now, no sim inserted works.
I reinstalled the stock firmware on it. tried several variants from different regions in the hope that it might work. was getting help from Wazz, Blagus and Bin4ry but seems they've moved on to more important projects now.
2 years ago, I would've brought my phone to the carrier. While your warranty would have been voided, you still should've been able to tell them that it is THEIR fault that it's not working since it was their OTA update that broke the phone. At the very least, they should've been able to get you a discount on a replacement Xperia Play, or at least I think they would have if they wanted to keep a happy customer.

Alright, I understand now. I wish I knew more, so I could help you out.
Was this the patch you used? I believe I used this ftf to relock my bootloader when my phone was bricked after I accepted an OTA update, just as you did. My radio never had any issues, though.. That said, my phone was sim-locked, since I have the R800x, so maybe that has something to do with it..
I tried flashing n910vvru2cql1 partial firmware in odin and phone info is still showing cpd1 as my bootloader.
history:
my phone was acting kinda buggy, wouldnt charge, turned off, got really hot about a year ago on a old version of RR and wasnt responding to anything usb so i threw it in a box and used one of my backups, a month ago or so, i moved some firmware files over by sdcard and flashed with twrp and it seems like it cleared up a lot of my issues.
I have been trying to get any rom past 6.0.1 on it and they just dont seem stable enough to run everyday so I found modest rom flashed that and it seemed pretty good except for the random restarts and lagg. i flashed flashpoint v4 kernel to try to clear problems up and it ran better but yet still kinda buggy so said screw it and flashed stock firmware cql1 kernel and over 2 days seems like everything cool except now im trying to get my bootloader up to CQL1 just so everything is unified and Sam Phone Info shows CPD1 for bootloader but CQL1 for pda, csc,baseband-radio
Are there any reason to upgrade bootloader since im already on 6.0.1 unlocked?
I wouldnt think so because my thoughts are its more like an efi bios/grub2/mbr which load the os and the kernel later gets lowerlevel access to the hardware????
Bottomline, I guess i would like to upgrade the bootloader, someone please clarify and help.
Thanks.

Sorry for responding late but in case anyone else is wondering, most partial firmwares that you see posted for our device model (even the ones posted in the international snapdragon rom threads that have Lineage, RR, and ported TW roms) do not contain the aboot.mbn file, aka bootloader. So it will not change our bootloader in anyway.
That's not say a dev or someone like myself who's just a beginner couldn't make a mistake and forget to remove it or maybe they don't know that it's supposed to be removed. So it would be best to stick with the tried and true links that have been posted of you're needing to update your modem. I know for certain the ones that have been posted by ripee, hsbadr, and me are safe, but I've never used not have heard anything negative about the other ones posted.
All that being said, you can update the SM-N910V bootloader if you'd like. Mine is updated to where it ends with CQI2 which is the penultimate update. If there is a difference between CQI2 and CPD1 (initial 6.0.1 bootloader) then it is a slight difference. Sometimes I think I just want to believe that tweaks and changes are working, especially if you put a lot of effort and time into it(which is required when you don't have much knowledge).
This was just posted recently;
VZW_NOTE4_EMMC_15_Chipset_Only_Bootloader_Unlock_U p/Dwngrade_Bootloaders_KK/LL/MM by jkruse
I haven't tried it yet but it looks much easier than the method I used, which is below;
For the folks that just like to tinker and break things....... How else you supposed to learn how to fix it?
