[Q] How to connect to PC in mass storage mode ? - HTC One X

After the lastest OTA update (Android 4.1.1, 3.14.707.24) my HTC One X can only connect to my PC in Portable Media Player mode.
Used to be it would prompt you to choose if you would like the phone to connect in "Charge Only" or "Mass Storage Mode".
Now I've noticed they've removed the "Connect To PC" option under system options and the default mode is simply Portable Media Player mode.
Is there a way to revert back to "Mass Storage Mode" ?
Thanks.

Hey umm... I know it sound stupid but I've recently lost all my pictures, video and music on my HTC One X and now I'm trying to connect it in a USB mode, but apparently HTC has removed this option and I can't even try to restore some of my data. Can you please help me? I can't understan what you mean by saying all of this (flash the kernel...) :fingers-crossed:

[Q] How to deactivate automatic Dataconnection when USB is plugged in

with ICS ( KA10 and Arconium ICS 1.1) i got a problem , when i connect my Phone to my Computer with USB , it automatically locks SD-Card for File Access from the Computer, how can i disable this feature? I just want to charge my Phone on the PC!
Thanks!
+1
I have the same problem on the official ICS (.562)
I often charge the phone by the computer-usb, and each time, it mounts the SDcard to be available for the computer
I saw that there is a service USB connectivity and storage capability in the running services...
I unplug the USB, kill both services, and plug usb, then:
the service USB connectivity is running again, and SDCard is so plugged to the computer.
Problem in the option Connectivity (Xperia menu), we just have: MTP or MSC
(we don't have option "do nothing, and let me choice" )
seems like we are the only with this problem..
I installed the ROM arconium v2.0, and had the same result. I asked them why, and they gave the simple solution :
it's because we are using the MSC mode (mass storage).
To change it into the MTP mode (multimedia transfer):
Settings > Xperia™ > Connectivity > USB connection mode > MTP
It's better when we choose the correct options

I had this annoying problem too when I tried ICS and sadly changing the connection mode to MTP is not a solution for me since Sony messed up the protocol and doesn't work on Linux at all.

Thank you! I'm on official ICS and I was getting annoyed with this.

Solution I proposed need, when you want to plug your SDCard to the computer, to go each time in the menu Xperia to select the corresponding option (MSC <> MTP).
It doesn't correspond to that I needed, because I'm using a widget which allow to do this by one-click (like widgetsoid).
So, to keep this one-click ability, I finally freezed (with Titanium backup = root needed) the services 'USB capability' and 'Storage capability'.
Now, only my widget is activating/disactivating the USB
-> but be carefull: you can do it by a widget, but the option is not displayed in the toolbar and the menu anymore...
Little remark after some days of use:
To keep this one-click ability with a dedicated widget, only 'USB capability' has to be freezed. No need to impact the service 'Storage capability'.

You can do everything from recovery
We might want to FTP or Airdroid
Disk mode has been replaced by MTP mode... you can still transfer files to your phone without going into recovery.
Windows handles it automatically (XP needs some updates)
Mac needs Android File Transfer software to make it work.
Hi Guys,
Even I'm facing the same issue. It says MTP USB driver failed.
I'm not able to connect to Internet-pass through.
Any suggestions ?
Try this (its a driver issue)
Okay, download the latest sync manager, i.e. 1.0.66 i think.
Remove older drivers, connect your phone, go to device manager, remove any thing that looks like my htc or android phone.
restart system -> connect phone-> install the latest drivers -> enable debugging on phone -> go to device manager, there would be an unknown device over there (android phone)-> right click 'update driver'
then select 'browse my computer for driver software' ,
then click 'let me pick ........'
then 'show all devices', .
then 'have disk.
browse to 'c:\program files\htc\htc driver\driver files\win_7...' or 'c:\program files (x86)\htc\htc driver\driver files\win_7...'
(for Mass Storage Device)
select then choose 'htc, corporation' and the 'my htc'
(for MTP)
->'htc corporation' (without the comma, usually at the top of list), choose the MTP driver from list
(for Internet)
-> just select the rndis driver
Let me know if it works.
I'm also seeing the USB debugging message on my phone but my notebook running Windows 7 able to detect it. I'm able to browse and copy files just like a mass storage. :cyclops:
I also have the same issue with my HTC One X, every time i try to use it as a Removable Disc it doesn't appear on my mac.
as i was reading i found out that i need a mac Android File Transfer software ?
Where can i get this software?
thank you for any information about this issue.

A lot of Problems after JB update
Hi. I recently updated my one x to jb and honestly it hasnt been a gud experience:
1. Slower than before
2. Boluetooth audio streaming over any device is either jittery or does not connect at all
3. Front came does weird blackish color to eyes that seems as if you r a ghost
Is htc gona be releasing any sort of a patch or update for these issues? or is this the end of the line now?
Does anybody else feel MTP is much much slower than USB mass storage, especially when transferring a long list of small files (example 1000 photos)??? Speed seems decent when transferring one big file (example movie)

Gday mate,
I have the same issue, and this option does not work. The issue is not a driver issue.... even if the htc driver isnt installed on your pc, the pc will still pick your phone up as unknown (as you stated), however the issue is that the pc doesnt pick up the handset at all..... Been doing abit of research and it appears htc are away of this issue, something to do with a collaboration with Google, and disabling the usb hard drive option on the handsets... (its happened to 3 of my friends all who have htc one xl handsets)....

Mine is a lot faster, don't really use bluetooth, but have experienced the front camera problem and other bugs, such as home and back button doesn't respond after coming from lockscreen, and suddenly it goes from being on vibrate to normal.
My phone is full stock, but now i think i may want to root it and flash a custom, non-sense ROM.
MTP- problem
hello
I have the same problem. I upgraded my HTC to 4.1.1 via OTA. Since them I have no chance to transfer data between win XP-computer and the HTC. (sorry win xp is the employer PC). (myphoneexplorer helped me later)
the next problem is, it is not possible when I want to storge data bigger than 4 GB!
I had a harshley contact with the HTC service - oh my god, HTC switched the storage format from NTSC to FAT32 for Linux.
it is complete ****ung **** what they did.
welcome to apple
very dissapointed

USB Drive Mode not working

Have the international version. After the recent OTA upgrade to 4.1.1 Android (unlocked bootloader and rooted, stock ROM), I can't seem to put the One X into USB drive mode on a MacBook pro.
When I connect the X to the MBP, USB debugging mode gets enabled and in the notification bar I get an option to change USB setting but tapping it gets me to the tethering options. Also, in "Setting" section the old "Connect to PC" option is no longer present!
What happened? Am I missing something?

[Q] Mounting One X as disk-drive

Hi
I recently got the office Jelly Bean update for my One X, but I have one unsolved question.
When I plug my One X into my PC I can't get the internal storage to show up, neither get a menu on the phone to select which mode I want to use. I have managed to get it working in Ubuntu by enabling USB-debugging under developer tools, but neither my Windows 7 laptop or my Mac will do this. They just mount a CD-drive and the only thing I can do is to install HTC Sync Manager. This is frustating as I use a Windows Server to store photos and videos from my phone. The server operatingsystem wont install Sync Manager, and honestly I don't want to install some software I don't need.
How do I get the disk-drive functionallity back in Jelly Bean?
I don't think you can, I use WiFi file transfer pro to exchange stuff on my phone/pc

I understand what you mean by not wanting to install software not needed. Maybe this will be the solution to your problem. I the "[ROOT] One Click HTC One X (AT&T/Rogers/Others) (Win/Mac/Linux)" here on XDA I found a link to the driver only. Maybe this can help you... :fingers-crossed:
I tried using the drivers from the link, but unfortunately they didn't work.
If your phone is rooted you can do it via CWM.

Airdroid uses wireless connection. My computers don't have wireless access.
The JB update enables MTP and disables USB Mass Storage. It should show up in My Computer under 'Media Devices' or something like that. You can view all the contents of the internal memory there. This is the way it is on Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4 and other devices.
MTP compatibility is flaky on Linux and OSX but is built into Windows 7 and works fine. The One X with JB should behave just as described. If its not showing in My Computer at all then something is messed up. Maybe a factory restore will fix it.

You're absolutely right. I got he JB update yesterday and i had the same issue. As it turns out, there are 2 links in Windows 7 in "Computer". One is to install the software but the second one talks about portable devices. Go in there and you will find an option for Internal Storage. It looks like an imitation of Apple iPod where you access the drive that way... Anyway, thanks for the solution.
or you can boot into recovery & mount usb storage from there thats how i do it with TWRP recovery
I eventually got my MTP drivers to force-install correctly by changing the USB network mode to Internet Pass-through. This was the only way that Windows would forcefully look for drivers and HTC Sync manager finally recognised it after this.

Same problem still persists in build 8.
Edit: After a few tries and after a reboot I managed to get it working.
Having this problem now with SlimKat 4.4 RC3 2.8 for samsung Galaxy S i9000 (trying to upgrade to official 3.0)
It refuses to detect that its connected to a computer. Have to reboot several times to get it working, and once it works, it only works for a short while. Then all of a sudden, connection dies.
I suspect it's the low memory condition that causes this. Slimrom has an extremely aggresive memory management, and some important services, such as bluetooth, usb connection, wifi etc...etc... is killed due to low meomory condition.
