Right off the bat, i want you to know i am a complete noob at this. Please hold back from your insults :silly:
Here's my dilema... I read through a lot of posts to see how exactly i can root my phone but I'm very confused. I have a fear ill brick it.
I have warranty until August of this year.
I live in Toronto.
I bought an S3 - Has T mobile logo on the back. It was advertised as a "pentaband phone", which to my understanding is unlocked.
Under about device:
SGH-T999
Android version 4.1.1
I use the phone on my Wind Mobile sim.
I want to get my phone to be like the one in this video on youtube .... watch?v=FoueWzEH4c4[/url]
I really like that multiview feature.
Please help my out guys.
Thanks in advance..

Read the second post. The ODIN method is usually the easiest for most people. It is very hard to brick your phone if you follow the instructions. There are YouTube video's available to walk you through the process.

Thanks for the help, i really appreciate this.
There are ton of instruction on youtube.
When first time I rooted, I followed the instruction from the guy name max who post on you tube. How to Root T-Mobile Galaxy S3 SGH-T999!
It works for me. make sure you watch a couple times before you start rooting.
Good luck

Does the tutorial at that site void my warranty?
Of course warranty will be void when you start messing up with rooting.
Rooting your phone will void your warranty. You can always odin back to stock if anything ever goes wrong keeping your warranty in tact

My question is because i have a HTC EVO 4G and I rooted it. I had ensure for it and i had to send it back to Sprint, and I looked every where and couldn't unroot it. The S-OFF is always there and found other people with the same problem. (I did tried the S-on zip and all that, new custom, Stock Roms but none worked) I ended up paying the $100 for a replacement EVO... Now I have a S3. (my EVO still on the closet)
I want to root my:
Samsung Galaxy S3
Model SPH-L710
Android 4.1.1
..............................But before I do that I want to make sure I can unroot it and run the stock rom, is there any file that I have to backup or anything before rooting it? My HTC EVO I rooted and loss 4G with the stock rom because I want suppose to backup something first accourding to some articule that i read..
Again, What steps I have to take before rooting my S3 in order to unroot it without any problem?

Quickest root possible. Nothing to backup. Granted this is shiit you should know already
Pre root steps.. Open laptop/Start desktop. Watch video. Drink beer (if of age) download files needed. Plug in phone..
This is probaly one of the easiest/Quickest roots i've done yet.. Just follow the instructions and you shouldn't go wrong. Just ensure you don't flash anything for the wrong carrier or for the I9300 International version of our phone. And you'll be fine! (The things i mentioned could cause a hard brick rendering the phone nothing more then a paperweight.)

Also, if you ever need to return to pure stock after you root all you have to do is flash http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1904099 in recovery.
Hey everyone,
I have rooted my GS3 prior to US Cellular's update to android 4.1.2, but after the update, every rooting method I have tried has failed. I almost bricked my phone the other day attempting to use a toolkit.... It tripped teh flash counter apparently and my device status was "Modified" instead of normal. I downloaded the Samsung update tool for the USCC GS3, and did a manual update after i discovered that my prior rooting attempt tripped the flash counter, disabled my Wifi, and caused me to be unable to download an OTA update.
The question is this...... what rooting method shoudl I be using for the USCC Galaxy S3, running 4.1.2? I'd love to be able to block ads again....... and I'd like to stay with the base OS if possible (not flashing it atm)'
Thanks in advance!

Using that method should would, oldest method and always proves true. Like always, you're responsible for everything.
Tripping the flash counter doesn't matter... I have never had USC reject warranty service, and I don't use any counter reset tools.
Unfortunately, XDA isn't the best place to find support for USC phones... Do a Google search for TeamUSCellular and go there for detailed step by step guides.
Then, look carefully at some of the ROMs here on XDA... Several of the ones that use Aroma support multiple carriers.

Root build 4.1.2?
Newb here,
Has anyone had any success in rooting the US Cellular SCH-R530 with build 4.1.2? I donated to the Samsung Galaxy S3 Toolkit cause but after an auto update the most recent build listed for US Cellular is still 4.1.1.
Thanks!

No I didn't 'ready' it but I did read it and that post was from a week ago. So I am following up as a lot can happen in 1 week. Either way, TeamUSCellular does not have anything on it at all. But thanks for all your help. I am now regretting the fact that I donated to the development of the toolkit. I guess if this isn't a good place to find help on US Cellular phones then there shouldn't be any US Cellular phones in the toolkit, but yet there is....hmmmm.

I think you need to look a little closer.
Go to Forum, go to the SG3 Development forum, go to SG3 Guides & Tutorials, then the 5th topic down is what you want (How To Root Jelly Bean LK5 & MB1).
It takes you step by step and even provides links to the files you need.
I just used this last week on a friend phone and it worked fine.

i say before you do anything to your phone like unroot it or flash the newest update thats rooted , to read around A LOT. AND I MEAN A LOT you dont seem to know what to do at all so i really suggest read a bit before any action. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1949687
just read and follow instructions if you're t-mobile usa you download the file with the name t999 if you're in canada you most likely have t999v. remember to read! gl :good:

I want a simple root so I can run apps that otherwise I could not

T-Mobile Image
April 2013 - 4.1.2 JellyBean
Note: This is based off of the stock image TMO T999UVDMD5
Perm Mirror: Download - root66_TMO_T999UVDMD5.7z
Flash that one with Odin.
The best possible thing you can do before doing anything, is to read the sticky threads.
The beginning part of the build is never referred to, so you don't need to worry about it. Just go from where is has T999********.
Stay in this part of the forum. Flashing anything from anywhere but here could cause you problems or a brick.
The thread you linked is imo the best choice for rooting. There are several options, but I like root66 best.
Start with the stickies (yes including forum rules), then search for any questions you still have. I can almost guarantee 90% of any questions you come up with has been covered before.
ALWAYS read the entire OP of anything you want to flash!
Just to get you started though, use the root66 UVDMD5 firmware to root.
This is not the international forum. You are in the right place.
In my signature, you will find just about everything you need to get going.
Good luck and welcome!

Now that you're rooted, make a backup with whatever recovery you installed(TWRP or CWM).
This will be your backup incase you flash something and your device becomes unstable.

i really need some help, i have tried almost everything to root my t-mobile samsung galaxy s3 SGH T999, i've watched all the youtube videos and downloaded all the links but nothing works... please someone tell me why this is happening ??
Use towelroot if on 4.3 firmware, root66 if below.. Or root66 for both, really doesn't matter.. Search the general section and you will find everything you need to know
Hi
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1735561 This is the best tutorial I found for you.
Towelroot is the absolute best and easiest option now. Makes all other methods nearly pointless to use. So many extra steps and flashing only serves to give more opportunities to make mistakes. They are good to know about, and will still have their uses, but if someone simply just wants root, Towelroot is the way to go now imo.
easy to root
my t999 is rooted by this way, easy to do! good luck
