Was cruisin' on my motorcycle yesterday happily listening to Pink Floyd via Bluetooth when an earshattering buzz let me know the phone was receiving an Amber Alert. Anyone know how to disable the Alerts?
You can't. They are pushed from your carrier. These notifications are a good thing, what if the vehicle described in the amber Alert would have been in front of you?

It's in the SMS settings. Just open the settings in the stock SMS app and scroll down to emergency alerts and turn off those you don't want. The only one you can't turn off is presidential alerts.

I agree that they are a good thing, but not gonna do me any good if I can't hear the 911 operator 'cause my eardrum is pierced LOL.

Yeah, I'm with you in this one.
If you're asleep, no, it won't help - but I'd look for a way to change the notification instead of just turning it off. Strangers have come to my aid, I'd feel downright evil just cutting off something like that if it made a difference even one in a million times.

You must not ride....
The air horn I have on my motorcycle startles other motorcycle riders that know I have it, when I set it off, so I can imagine a scenario where some loud ear splitting noise could startle a motorcycle rider and cause them to crash. Concentration, especially with regards to where all of the other vehicles are on the road and who could be potentially driving stupid so you have to watch out for, is necessary when riding a motorcycle.

So....I unplug my phone this morning, and it no longer seems to vibrate. I tried making sure vibrate is on, and it is. I shuffled between normal mode, normal plus vibrate, and vibrate only. Nothing seems to bring it back. Rebooting did not fix it.
Suggestions? I'm on Cm9 right now. Tempted to Odin back to gingerbread if this doesn't abate. would probably look better if I have to take it to a spirit store too to be on stock.

figured i'd share this experience with my fellow epic users.
anyway tonight i made a quick run to the grocery store before it closed, mind all of you this is a 10 min trip to,grab and check out, and back home. as i get half way to the store i realized i forgot my phone and got irate. saying to myself "how could you forget that of all things" and honest to what ever greater power there is i stopped and almost went back home for it. and i really had to stop myself and say "what the **** are you doing? it's not even that serious."
i know some are gonna come with the cool story bro line. but i really took this as a sign that i need to lighten up on material things. i was really willing to risk getting my phone and skip grabbing some form of nourishment.
Watch the movie the transcendant man. Its on netflix. The main character has a crazy idea that computers will eventually shrink to the size of blood cells and we will become human hybrids of technology. Computers have already shrunk from taking up a whole room to sitting in our pockets in a short amount of time, so his idea makes sense.

Kind of useless though, right? Raining for hours and then a text message warning you about floods?
Yeah i got this too (while on stock rom, have since switched to Paranoid Android). I thought it was a cool feature as well but did anyone else notice that these notifications would pop up CONSTANTLY?
One night, my wife and I's phone (we both have the S3) were literally buzzing every 5 minutes for an hour straight with the same flood warning. Note that there were no thunder storms or rain or anything of that sort in our area but obviously this warning could have been for my entire county or something like that. Regardless, we ended up disabling the feature
You can disable it in the stock message app settings. The only alert that can't be disabled is the Presidential alerts.
Yeah the feature is cool when its accurate. Unless I have that setting disabled, I get those alerts constantly even when there is no severe weather in the forcast... sucks!
Are you sure you do not have the "Alert reminder" turn on? Or are you actually getting multiple text messages? I also live in the DFW area. I also got this warning. However, I got one and only one text and only once did it sound off.
Its only gone off once for me, but it seemed pretty accurate. There had been a flash flood warning for PART of my county (uses the polygon warning boxes), and it didn't go off for me until I drove into the warned area. Only went off once too. Though I must add that we were under a flash flood warning again a couple of days ago and it never went off. I'm using a custom rom now so I'm curious if something was removed or changed that it depends on.
Has anyone with a custom rom received any alerts?

Possibly a couple reasons for this:
When weather alerts are issued they are based on the polygon warning boxes. So you could have just been outside the warning area.
The tower you were connected with may have been outside the warned area.
If you are using the old radio and had wifi on, you may have the bug where sms/mms may not have been working properly.
GoSMS may have tried to intercept the message but isn't able to process CMAS msgs. (Not sure how those 3rd party apps work though)
Could be they are still ironing out the kinks in the system.
Who knows what else?!

I always wanted my gnex to be able to flash when receiving phone calls with the camera flash like the iPhone has as one of its built in options.I tried like a dozen play store apps that do the same thing but none of them work for my galaxy nexus, does anyone know of one that actually works or a custom rom that has this feature.I know the gnex has the notification pulse light at front but camera flash would be better to also have.
That would consume more battery than you think, also I doubt that's a sensible idea. Last thing you need is a lighthouse when someone decides to call you at 4am in the morning. Vibration was invented to counter that.

Thanks , finally one that actually works on my gnex.
I just got my watch yesterday and I love it! Very easy to use and "Ok Google" simply works.
I wish battery life was little longer.

When I saw this setup on the iWatch I thought it looked really strange but now having seen that face on the moto 360 I'm really hoping someone implements a launcher in that style as it looks great!

When using as gps, does the screen go off?
If so, when a new direction is needed, does it wake up?
Thanks.

ya the screen goes off (its good its saves battery) But you can tap and it wakes up. You get little vibrate for new directions.

Thanks.
And with that vibration, does the screen comes on?, or it does when you make the move to see the screen? And the new direction is there without intervention?
If that's the case, it's an awesome way to navigate

the screen comes up. You can expand to get the full screen from the dial. I usually use in car GPS but I love the google maps gps integration there no distractions. It will tell you ETA, the miles for the next exit or street and you don't have to look at your phone screen. You can even say "navigate to" and the address and you can choose driving, walking..etc.
Congratulations
