Boot animation sound, disable - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Good day to all.
This is my very first post in this great community. :highfive:
Although I am no a developper, I do wish to start helping out while studying development sufficiently so as to really make a difference.
So here it goes.
-----------------------------
I was once made uneasy while at work and rebooting my phone after initial ROM flash first boot, and being victim of dirty reprimands from my colleagues with the loud boot animation sound.
I then put my phone to vibrate before reboot and was greeted with a simple vibrate, soundless boot.
I tried again, this time, with sound on before boot, and the boot animation sound was reenabled. Simple.
-----------------------------
This is to help someone on this post. I am no sure it would work on any ROM, but I do not see why not.
Perhaps some of you could reply for confirmation.
Best regards to all.

Renaming /system/media/bootanimation.zip gets rid of the default i747's animation/ or what is included with the rom
• Renaming /system/media/audio/notifications(whatever the sound is) is the only way to get rid of the boot up sound.
Hope i helped

dude thank you stock rooted here.. and it worked

on stock rooted rom.. I did the following..
system/media bootsamsung.qmg = rename ex. bootsamsung.qmg.ori hated the bright white att logo... not sure which one it was so i did it on both files..
system/media bootsamsungloop.qmg = rename .ori
system/media/audio/ui poweron.ogg = rename .ori
then I started making my own stock rooted and added this..
found one from another rom, cant remember which, I used there bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg without the bright white att logo.. at night in bed this was very annoying..
and renaming the bootsound found above..

Hey guys.
Thanks much for your input. My goal was to get more data on the subject compiled here from other users, and to let itself develop.
It seems to move forward. Kewl!

Htc Kaiser 2.x Bootanimations and splash screen request thread

Hi all,
in this thread i will continue the work from zenity (which inspired me to start with custom splashes and boot animations)
The main purpose of this thread is mainly for splash screens and boot animation requests for Kaiser.
I will start the thread with 1 custom splash and 1 custom boot animation,
so you can all see what the possibility's are.
When you request a splash screen ----> please attach the picture you want as splash screen.
For boot animations ---> a video or other file might be helpful, as im not going to make 200+ png art files for you by hand
And of course credits for zenity!
I will try to handle the requests as soon as possible, and if there are people willing to help that's perfectly fine
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for any damage you cause to your phone by flashing custom splash screens or using any boot animations.

Dude, thanks for the credit, but really I'm not sure I deserve it, lol, I only a few bootsplashes and bootanimations.
Glad to see someone take up the challenge though, my thread was really just a collection thread for others work
I guess the idea of this thread was ok, but till now i didn't get any responses yet might place this thread in the general android forums or something.
and you still get the credits, because of you i got into the bootanimation stuff

this does not work for me it does seem to boot faster without a boot animation though
Boot animation working
It works for me, but only if i integrate it in the installer (but thats with all bootanimations for me). Though, i guess i had a bit too much enthusiasm putting 1,5 minute of movie in this bootanimation.
But still, this is just an example of whats possible. I can make simple bootanimations as well on request. So if you have an idea, just post it here and your request will be made
updateandroid.tar method wont work?
how about a basic few frame boot ani, it possible that the boot process has gotten faster than the animations take.
?
how you mean that exactly? i dont really understand what you mean with it.
to change the bootanimation.zip file an updateadroid.tar file must be use because of the file permissions.
this method produces the error i fore mentioned.
you are saying i must put the file in the androidinstall.tar next time i update?
i wonder if fix permission in boot does not fix permissions for bootanimation.zip and that is why it does not work
how about something like these....
click on the skeleton guy ....not sure why he isn't animating on here?
Procedure
You could use androidupdate.tar method,
or use adb push method and push bootanimation.zip to /data/local (did not check, but thought this was the right path)
though i always experienced problems with changing the bootanimation
ok, im very busy with school right now. I will be looking at them next week.
Ill post the bootanimations in this thread

EVOlvedROM r3chargeD RC1 - Boot animation

I'm posting this to see if anyone has tried changing the boot animation on this ROM. I've tried to use the apps on the market and I grabbed a few from blackmart too, but I couldn't get the boot animation to change. I grabbed root explorer and moved files. I used android sdk and tried pushing them into the system folder. I can't get the damn boot animation to change. I'm using the filename "bootanimation.zip" correctly. Ummm at the moment that's all I can think of that I've tried. If anyone has any valuable input that might help me out, I'd really appreciate it. Once the revolution tool came out, I've become a flashaholic haha. I really like this evolved ROM. Mainly because of all the green in it everywhere. ....I'm straying from my point, Boot animation. Posted a shootme shot of my ROM and kernel that I flashed.
Anyone?
Thank you

Via root explorer:
Copy the boot animation you have selected to data/drm. I could be wrong since I flashed out of that rom already but I think that is where it goes. Leave it as is once pasted there. Remember the name of the old one in there, delete it, then rename the new one with the old one's name. I did because I liked this one I found of android man wearing a circus like jacket that snags the Apple logo with a cane and then he comes back on dancing. If data/drm doesn't work, do system/customize/resource.
The boot animation goes in data/local, make sure you give it full permissions also just to make sure it sticks

What do you mean give it full permission?
and I haven't touched that data/drm folder yet, so maybe that's it. I wanted to put the dancing android guy as the boot animation and the party rock anthem ringtone mp3 that I grabbed. I want that song to play while the boot animation is goin. So its like the android guy is dancing to the party rock anthem hahaha. Do I put the mp3 in that data/drm folder as well?

System/media.
Well I've cleared out all the bootanimation.zip files from the phone to try and get no boot animation so I can start from there. I'm still getting the "EVOlvedRoms" boot animation. How the hell is that? lol Any Idea what I'm missing. I even moved the bootanimation.zip.orig to my sdcard from system/customize/resource
You need to go to data/local

Gahhhhhhhhh I'm getting ready to pull my hair out with this boot animation stuff. Where's this hidden "EVOlvedROM" bootanimation file???? I can have no bootanimation.zip files on the phone at all, and it still loads that boot animation for the ROM. I've put mine in...I've changed permissions ....I've done everything I can think to do. I've taken all the suggestions on this thread so far, and I still see "EVOlvedROMS" when I boot the phone up. It's a nice animation, BUT I wanna figure out how to change it and I can't. It's been days now ....any new suggestions out there? I even sent a message to the guy who posted the ROM, and he hasn't messaged me back at all
Man that sucks, here is my set up data/local then inside local HTC_bootanimation.zip
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
The "htc_bootanimation.zip" is when it flashes the "htc" name ...no? Or is that the "EVOlvedROMS" animation that I can't find? lol
<BootAnimation animation="/data/local/hTC_bootanimation.zip" audio="/system/customize/resource/android_audio.mp3" />
this is from that roms default.xml that is how its suppose to be named and where it goes. when using root explorer you have to make sure the permissions are rw-r-r
user: read and write checked
group:read checked
other: read checked
Yes it is the one you can't find

That was it...I had to change it from "bootanimation.zip" to "hTC_bootanimation.zip"

[Q] Change boot animation on roalex ICS for Bravo

Hi all,
I looked and tried for a while now, but I'm not able to change my boot animation on the COS ICS by roalex. A bootanimation.zip stored in system/media and/or in data/local doesn't work for me. I'm shure it changed in general in ICS. Can anybody help me please to find a way to change my boot animation?
Some ICS threads recommend to store in system/customize/resource, but I don't have a customize file.
For all changes I use root explorer.
Thanks and have a nice day!
What do you mean with "does not work"? Is any bootanimation shown or do you just get a black screen? Did you make your named it correctly and really replaced the old bootanimation?
Thanks for your answer
The bootscreen in general works. In settings I can enable and disable boot animation. When I enable boot, then the old school android boot animation is showed. I think this is maybe a fallback mode, when there is no bootanimation.zip. But I don't know.
When I look into /system/media and /data/local after a fresh installation, then there is no bootanimation.zip. Maybe the builder of this ROM has diasabled custom boot images to speed up the device (it is indeed very fast).
And because he has disabled boot animation per default, I'm not able to set up my own.
It's not the first time I created my own animation, so I'm shure it works at least in gingerbread.
My new question should be now, how to enable bootanimation in this special case, when it is disabled by default?
I suggest, that this is no big deal, when this doesn't work on this rom. I can live without a nice boot animation. It's more for my general comprehension, how android is working.

I guess you mean folder, not file, don't you?
Yes, indeed. Sorry.
Tried to create folderpath (/customize/resource) yourself and then move the bootnanimation.zip there?
BEFORE TRYING, MAKE A NANDROID-BACKUP!!!
Ok it didn't work for me. I'm a backup profi now, but nothing seems to work.
It's ok for me, I'll close this thread now.
Gracias!
It works flawless on my HTC Desire with this ROM.

I know the issue......install disk usage and tell me size of your system partition free space, then tell the size of bootanimation.....it always happens when space not enough.....Android tries to write your file, and if no space, it just shows.that file is written.....please check free space and tell.....

Galaxy S III Boot Animation Sound Delay

First off, let me thank you for any help that I might get resolving this issue. Second, I have searched all over xda and cannot find this question about this particular phone, let alone an answer. Please be kind on me, I am not a complete noob, but I still have some learning to do as well. And forgive me if this is posted in the wrong place.
I have an At&t Samsung Galaxy S III running 4.1.1. It is rooted with custom recovery (TWRP) and stock rom. I have flashed Bootanimation4U.Samsungani.Only.zip, created a custom bootanimation.zip file, placed it in system/media and set the permissions with root explorer. The animation is working fine. I have also downloaded a sound.oog file that goes along with the boot animation. I renamed the sound.oog to PowerOn.oog, placed it in system/media/audio/ui, and set the permissions using root explorer and the sound plays just fine except there is a 3-4 second delay before the sound starts playing after the boot animation starts. This is driving me crazy. I know there was a similar issue with the Droid RAZR here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771089 . However, I have tried changing the desc.txt and that unfortunately didn't fix the problem on my phone. I cannot find any answer that has solved this issue. Please, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also, I have the same issue with a Sprint Galaxy Note II running 4.3. stock rom with TWRP recover. I really don't want to flash a custom rom but I will if you think it will fix this frustrating problem. Thank you
I've done some more digging and found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1633685 that the audio driver configuration and policy implementation is located in /etc/tinyucm.conf . Based on this information and my own observation of the boot process, I think the sound delay is just a natural function of the boot process itself as the drivers take a few seconds to load after the boot animation starts. I could be way wrong. If anyone has any information about driver load priority, or anything that could help me solve this, I would be grateful for your help. I am wondering if there is any way to fix this by modifying the tinyucm.conf file? Probably not for what I am attempting, but if it can be done I would really like to know. I'm going to try to pull the file and see if I can make any sense of it. For now I have added a custom splash screen before the boot animation and sound starts. Since I am using android 4.1, I modified the desc.txt file to allow the boot animation to play until it finishes so it wouldn't get interrupted by the completion of the boot process. It is a lazy work around, but it works for now. As always, thanks for your help.

[Q] Can't change my boot animation

Hello! I've been trying for a very, very long time to change my boot animation. I've tried a lot of stuff, and none of it works. I've tried changing the bootanimation.zip, hTC_one_boot_up.zip, I've tried flashing a bootanimation.zip, nothing works. Can someone walk me through some steps to take to change it, and then listen to me to see if it works or not? I'd appreciate it.
Please bear in mind, although I've rooted it and all that jazz, I have a very rudimentary knowledge of my phone. So be careful about terms and such, as I might not understand everything.
Thanks in advance!

The information you give are a bit scarce.
How did you change the zips? (which one is the right one and where it should be located depends on the rom you are using).
Did you set the right permissions for the files after changing them?
Did you use a verified working zip file?

I apologize, it never notified me that you responded, so I'm sorry for the late response.
I would put my personal boot animation in the same folder as the original boot animation. Then I'd rename the original to something else (like bootanimation.zip.bak) and rename mine to bootanimation.zip (I also did this with the hTC.one.boot.up.zip).
I did change the permissions, rw-r-r, which is what I've been told they're supposed to be.
I don't know what you mean by "verified", but I always downloaded the animations either from websites that specifically host boot animations, or from users on forums that post their own. So I'm assuming at least one of the tens I've tried would've worked.
