[Q] Rooted Note2/CWM. Error on OTA AT&T update - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

Phone: Samsung SGH-I317
Android Version: 4.1.2
I got my new note 2 last week and made it about 2 days before i had to root it and install CWM as i had on my Galaxy SII (which was on US Cellular). I rooted it without difficulty, installed rom manager and installed the newest version of CWM for the Note 2 v6.0.2.5. Here is where my first and only problem has come up.
I tried doing a small 8.45mb OTA AT&T update on the phone ( i did the 4.1.2 OTA update before i rooted it). It downloaded no problem then brought the prompt up that the phone must restart to install. It goes to CWM recovery no problem to install then i get this.

So i know at this point something went wrong as it is bringing up failed outputs. So i go ahead and click - Yes install untrusted zip. Just to see what happens. Then i get the following:

I have searched XDA, google, ect trying to find an answer but am at a loss to why i cant install the OTA updates. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks XDA for the help.

Generally if you have a custom recovery installed you can not install OTA`s

Same happened to with the S3. Any fix?

No fix...
Unless the device uses the stock 3e recovery. ..
The device can be returned to stock...then the OTA taken. ..then root and flash the custom recovery again. ..
Then back up the newer build for later use. ..g

I downloaded the e4gauto root from the sticky. I followed the instructions, selected option a, the program did its thing and said its complete. I downloaded the rom manager from the market and downloaded Calkulins E4GT ROM v 2.8.1. I tried to install it through rom manager / sd card but I get an error message. I also tried to back up my current rom and got the same error.

Then use the auto root and install the el29+cwm.
After that wipe wipe wipe install calks rom.
Edit: make sure to have ure phone in usb debbuging when using the auto root program.

lol. why is everyone doing auto root and all that. I would just odin a kernel with cwm infused. then go into recovery and flash your modems roms and kernels.
Make sure you are rooted. The "complete" message doesn't mean it gave you root access. You can look for super user in you apps . If you have it then download a program that requires root from the market to test and see if the root access is functioning properly. then download the ROM again. sometimes roms will have corrupt files when you download them. And to be safe and sure boot in to recovery and install from there instead of using ROM manager. Follow the standard procedure of flashing (wipping and etc...). Good luck.

this. and then you could a new ROM rather than just a kernel.

Here is what i tried to do:
1) In settings- update os
2) It said that here is a new one
3) Download it
4) Press "Install"
5) Phone is rebooting
6) ClockworkMod Recovery v5.8.2.7 opened
7) Error in the bottom of screen:
Code:
"Finding update package..."
"E: unknown volume for path [INTERNALSDCARD:Download/blah-blah-blah.zip]
"E: Can't mount INTERNALSDCARD:Download/blah-blah-blah.zip"
"Installation aborted"
8) I tried to install it manually, choose "install zip from sdcard" and click on file->Yes, install
9) Errors again:

Finding update package...
Opeing update package...

What should i do to update my firmware? Thx.
You need to flash stock recovery and make sure you haven't deleted any system apps or flashed any system mods for the ota to work.
Or you could update using a ruu, it wipes your phone data but you get a fresh install

If you do not know even the basic steps to unlocking, flashing etc... then I suggest you stop right now before you end up with a $800 paperweight on your desk.
There are a number of threads in the Dev section that give you step by step instructions on what to do, just search. If you still don't understand then read again. If you still don't understand after reading again then stay clear of rooting, it's not for you.

I unlock it and it's working good. I flashed some programms, but i just don't know how to update, cuz in ClockworkMod there is nothing about firmware update.
I tried to search, but didn't find exactly what i need.

I guess you did not relock your bootloader.
You should follow this tutorial.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1660807
Hi Guys,
I ahve the same problem. I unrooted my phone, flashed stock recovery, locked my bootloader and resetted to factory default. It still won't update and gives a "warning" logo and then resets as if nothing happened.
I had the same errors.
I could't recovery - it just keept rebooting to fastloader.
I send it to be repaid but was told that the phone was parallel import and it would cost me the same as a new phone to fix it bcos of new "motherbord"...
It seems reasonably. The box did't have any danish manuals and the firm closed down few weeks after I bought it (danlet.dk). The repair guy said it was ment for Germany...

You could try one the custom roms based on 1.29.401.11 which is flashable in clockwork recovery along with the kernel via fastboot.

If you have Clockwork Recovery installed you cannot update over the air. You have two options:
1) Flash back to Stock recovery, update OTA and then flash Clockwork again
2) Flash a custom ROM that is already based on .11
thanks man

[Q] Cant install OTA jelly bean update with CWM

So I've been lurking these forums for quite a while over the years. Anyway I used the root method here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2039421which worked flawlessly, I must add.
Today I received notification that a new version of android was ready to be installed and now upon reboot I'm stuck in a loop. CWM recovery boots but cannot install the update.zip. i get the following error messages:
installing /sdcard/update.zip
finding update package
E: cant mount /sdcard/update.zip
Installation aborted.
Manually trying to browse for the zip file does nothing. Ive tried clearing davik/fixing permissions. Is there any way of updating besides flashing the stock recovery?

You are currently unlocked and thus cannot update via ota. Also, the current update is still ics. You probably need to come to irc for help.

I have the same problem with my optimus g. Can someone please help! What is irc?
The IRC is a web chat room where the devs work on the device and help people with soft bricked phones and many other issues.
Can find it at WWW. http://webchat.freenode.net and the room is lg-optimus-g if I remember correctly I at work and don't have my comp with me.

This is caused by your bootloader being unlocked. Restore your boot.img and associated files that you backed up during the FreeGee process and you will be good to go.

I think trying to install an ota without the stock recovery screws up the misc partition. I would recommend:
1. Don't upgrade with ota's (duh)
2.If you do, get help in irc before you do something the helpful folks there don't know how to fix.

If you want to just update to a newer/non-stock ROM, pick one and flash it.

4.1.2 Update problem

I started posting on a thread in the general section but think it is better suited over here. I apologize for the double post but thought it would get more eyes with a suggestion on it over here.
I was running a Stock ROM, rooted and unlocked 4.1.1. I have not been able to update to 4.1.2. I tried using CWM, TWRP, stock recovery and ODIN. CWM and TWRP give an error and won't install the update. I completely reflashed to stock and downloaded the OTA using the stock method. It tries to udpate and stops. After restarting it gives a message that the update was interupted.
I have tried installing the update through stock recovery with the file on the external SD card and the following message appears.
The other message that comes up when trying to update through stock recovery is
assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/app/Facelock.apk", :c0c83a8c5d02786abed70758022dce17e1fb3a6f", "1bel1a17f8063aba12220a38a38caa7b3382ec96bbeb")

Flash stock rooted 4.1.2 in cwm or twrp, you can find it in room development, you need to flash modem and firmware first which you will find in loser skaters first post of stock rooted 4.1.2

It sounds like your stock Rom is rooted. Unroot and try again. Same thing happened top me this morning as i did the update.zip again for a project. Unrooted with SuperSU and then it ran like normal. Don't forget to back up your internal sd, as it will be wiped in the process
You can just flash the already rooted 4.1.2?
Unless you want to download it from att? Wouldn't make sense to me.

I had similar problem, but the error was with bootanimation. I found my original file and put it where the update was looking for it. I am willing to bet that the Facelock.apk is not in /system/app or there is a problem with that file.
