my bro got a rooted galaxy nexus with CWM recovery !
we want to install the OTA updates (Device status is normal so he can download the update) the problem is he gets Failed message when he tries to install updates because of CWM recovery! anyone knows how to get back to Stock recovery on nexus i'm noob in nexus fastboot stuff (CMD fastboot command)! also the proper stock recovery.img PLZ ... (i've attached a screen shot of the setting -> About device Screen).
he does not get the error message because of CWM.
he gets the error message because something isnt stock.

not in CWM the phone downloads the update pakage restarts and tries to install the updates and it fails there is not error message just fails!
If you want to set the phone to stock...

If you want to just update to a newer/non-stock ROM, pick one and flash it.

My goal is to have it rooted, running cyanogenmod 10, and carrier unlocked.
Which order do I do things in, and which guides should I use for each step?
I am a little worried that if I first root, then install cyanogenmod10 that the **** docomo app will not work on cyanogenmod10..?
and do I have to unlock a bootloader? (i dont even know what that means)
Thank you.. I:m a relative newbie and am looking forward to exploring everything available for a power user of a rooted nexus.

Download the .zip from your computer, move it to the root of your sdcard and flash in cwm.

I did as you said and got closer to success, but it CM10 got stuck in bootloop.. so I went in to try to hipe or restore, and now it seems i:ve wiped too much, when I click reboot, it says *no OS installed! are you sure you want to reboot?* so now i:m pretty messed up..
when I click install it shows two nightly:s that i:ve downloaded, but when i try to flash it , it gives me that same erorr

ok i used galaxy nexus toolkit to reinstall stock rom.. i guess i:ll be using that until I figure out how to successfully install CM10
I know this has been asked hundreds of times, and i searched the forums for days for a way to fix it, but with no use.
I have a rooted AT&T Galaxy SIII with JB 4.1.1. I am trying to install the CM 10.1(4.2.2) Nightly version, but i always get the infamous "Status 7 Installation Aborted" error.
Yes i am sure im downloading the correct ROM zip file for my phone and carrier.
I have CWM 6.0.2.1, and i followed the steps correctly. (Clear data -> Clear Cache Partition -> Clear Dalvik Cache -> install ROM)
I have tried so many times, i also re-rooted my phone, reinstalled CWM, and redownloaded different nightly versions of the ROM, as well as other ROMS like JellyBam.
I also tried to delete the assert lines in the update-script file, but that also wouldnt work.
Thank you. :good:
And please dont hate on me, im new to rooting and flashing. :crying:

if you can boot into the phone, download ROM manager and update your cwm recovery. latest version is 6.0.2.8.
CM10 and 10.1 are picky about you having the most recent version. cheers

Hi guys, I'm having same issue but on N7000 international version. I'm able to go in the recovery mode and download mode but phone won't boot normally. It's stuck on Samsung logo so can you please advise something? How can I update CWM if that's the issue. I was on ICS 4.0.4 XXLRK before trying to install CM10.1 on Note.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I would be doing my research in an N7000 forum, friend.
Also, your post seems confusing as you seem to be saying you also got a status 7 error but then you appear to have installed abroad and are stuck at the boot logo. If you successfully flashed the correct rom for your device without any errors, pull battery, replace and wipe data in recovery. Reboot

If the phone itself is functioning fine but you simply cannot flash a new rom or rom update, you need to update your recovery. Go to clockworkmods website and download version 6.0.1.2.

I would take up this situation in the correct forum. The more we discuss your device issues the more likey you are to download the wrong file or use a procedure not designed for your device software.
If you came from stock, flashed a rom and are stuck at the samsung logo, boot into recovery, wipe data and cache. Reboot to see if that helped. If not, seek advice in the N7000 forum. Cheers
Thanks for the guidance.

What procedure are you using to flash? What file are you trying to flash and where did you get it from?
I start up the phone using volume down and power. Then in teamwinner i chose install zip and then the file
so far have tried, all downloaded from here or linked from here, those files
CWM-Touch-6.0.2.5-DJ
Hellybean-20130405-crespo
TWRP-2.4.4.0-DJ
jellyshot_crespo-v3.3
nothing works. all of them exist with error 7

I wouldn't be surprised if your recovery is either not for your device or not even a flash able zip.

Where did you get that CWM? http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager? If so those are img files, for flashing from fastboot. But I have no idea what "DJ" is for. To flash from recovery it needs to be packaged in a flashable zip.
Or you can install CWM from the ROM Manager app. Or TWRP from GooManager.
quite frankly i wouldnt use CWM. The UI is annoying as hell, and it tends ot be a lot slower, at least from my own experience.
I recommand TWRP, http://www.teamw.in/project/twrp2/90 latest version here for maguro.
if you have adb set up, installing twrp is cake, simply open adb and type:
1) adb reboot bootloader
2) fastboot flash recovery TWRP.img <-----assuming you are in the directory of that img file you just downloaded, and TWRP is just the name of the img file, its usually attached with version, so i would rename it for easier access.
3) after you flashed it just boot into recovery and start flashing your new rom.
If all else fail.....use the toolkit and flash factory image for a fresh start, i havnt failed with factory image yet
Ok so I am not the greatest when it comes to flashing ROMs but so far I have managed to get by.
I went from MMuzzyROM 4.2.2 to [ROM] [4.3] [JSS15J]. I wiped my data/dalvick/cache, flashed the new ROM and Gaaps and installed SuperuserSU. As of right now SuperuserSU will not install and I get an installation error. And when using Rom Manager I can not reboot into recovery. And there is a bit more, when I try and boot into recovery from the holding the volume and power button down, after choosing recovery the android with the error shows up. From what I understand is that the 4.3 rom I flashed removed the stock recovery, but I am just confused how to get back recovery.
My main question is did I loose root and how can I get the recovery option back.
Thanks, Noel

what error message?
what's the fastboot command you're using to flash recovery.
about loosing your recovery after flashing/boot/reboot OS for the first time, it's probably the same that 4.2 had
/system/recovery-from-boot.p
/system/install-recovery.sh

The error message is when using the clockwork mod app to install the recovery, once downloaded it states an error has occurred. Then when trying TWRP I am following these steps I get "fastboot is not a recognizable command..." I am pretty lost as you can tell and am thankful for the help.

Mainly because I thought if I had rooted my device and done all this once, I should remember how to do it again. But through ignorance I thought I could and be able to remember the steps and what not. I'll read through it and figure it out, it was just a moment of panic of losing the option of recovery that I have had for a long time and not being able to use it means (or I think it means) I am just stuck of 4.3 for a bit and hopefully the ROM isn't too bad.
Hello,
I am having some trouble reverting back from TWRP to Stock Recovery to do an OTA update to the 5/30 update. Whenever I flash the recovery in TWRP, it fails. Another problem I had was, when I was in stock recovery (before jumping to TWRP), I tried doing the OTA update, but when the phone rebooted to perform the update, it would stop half way and reboot back into the OS and no change would happen (even though it said "Updating ColorOS". Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Man, I used your recovery flasher to install the recovery, but it still doesn't let me install the OTA. It boots into recovery and nothing happens. When I reboot the phone, it says updating, but when I check for OTAs, it still says to install the update.

That's odd. You could try this recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53065486&postcount=84
It's official TWRP except it's modified to report the device as "FIND 7" (just like stock recovery) so it can flash stock ROMs/updates. I doubt the stock recovery uses open recovery script so I doubt you'll be able to initiate the flash via the settings menu. However you could try to install the OTA manually. I think the zip is placed in /sdcard/ota or something like that. I sent my Find 7a in so I can't verify the correct path.

Maybe check if the OTA is available for download here or on Oppo Forums with an MD5 so you can verify integrity. If not you could delete the .zip and redownload via software update. If all else fails you could switch to ColorOS 2.0 beta or try Gummy or Omni. I personally hated colorOS however I feel that 2.0 beta is actually more stable with less bugs.

I already tried it, but even that failed.. Color os didn't install either.
So no one has an idea on why I can't install the Ota? Even tried unrooting and trying the Ota that way, but it still failed. Even if I use recovery of color os to flash the Ota without root, it still fails. I don't know what else to do... I want to get Ota in case they update to 4.4 kitkat...
