HTC One V - USB connecting problem - HTC One V

I am facing a problem with connecting my HTC One V to computer via USB cable - Whenever I try to connect the phone via USB with computer, I get this error message "USB device not recognized". I tried connecting on different computers but get this same message. However the phone starts charging.
Even if by chance it gets connected and if phone is moved even a little than it gets disconnected and same message reappears.
I am facing this probelm from long time now. What could be the problem?

install htc drivers

If you can get it to connect occasionally, then it disconnects if you move it, sounds like a bad USB port on your phone. Contact your carrier or HTC for a replacement, if it is still under warranty. I had the same issue with my old Optimus V.

You can install HTC Sync Manager to install the drivers

HTC Sync not connecting ..... (HTC Sync 2.0.28 with Vista)

Got my first android after using WM for years.
Tried everything to get HTC Sync to work but in vain.
Installed HTC Sync that came with phone on the SD card i.e., version 2.0.28.
Tried different USb ports on laptop running Vista but still no connection.
Can anyone help in getting HTC syn to work please ????
You wrote really very good fault description.
So please, have You installed HTC sync and restarted PC?
Have You changed USB connection on Desire to HTC sync?
Dos it find new hardware on PC? Does it installed correctly drivers?
If all is OK, so You should have in bottom right corner of HTC sync written connected.

Already installed three times.
No luck so far. Please help. I try this three times everyday since I got my desire. Don't know what am I doingwrong. Installed/re-installed HTC sync on Vista laptop multiple times. Each time restarted computer. Connects device, USB device detected and installed successfully. HTC Sync option selected on attaching USB to device and computer ....... after trying for 30 seconds, gets msg on the device that "unable to find HTC sync on your PC". Though it is open in front of me.
Can you mount it as a disk drive? If you can it at least proves that the usb drivers are working?
You might also want to try disabling any firewalls and virus checkers.
You also need a USB 2.0 port -How old is the laptop?

It easily mounts as a Disk Drive.
Disabled firewall/Antivirus too.
Got USB 2.0 ports. Its Sony Vaio with Vista, less than 2 years old.
Umm..............
Are you loading HTC Sync twice. It sits in the tray. To sync you do it all from the desire. Plug in USB lead, switch from charge only to HTC sync, after 20 to 30 secs it should connect then press sync now.
im having exactly the same trouble, let me know how fixing this goes!
I feel like crying. 2 weeks since I got the Desire. No progress with HTC Sync. Even downloaded the newer version 2.0.33, which supposedly metions Desire as a supported device. Tried all possibilites but phone doesn't find HTC Sync on computer. No problems in using it as a disk drive but it is just sync which doesn't work.
This is pushing me to the wall and I'm seriuosly thinking about going back to WM/ HD2.

Hi there,
what version of Windows are you running? Is it 32/64-bit?
Did you try different USB slots on your computer? Cured the connection issues for me.
Hello,
I use this
http://www.htc.com/fr/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=933&news_id=631
She works fine with my Desire with W7
Ensure your phone is setup to recognise HTC Sync:
1- From the Home screen, press MENU, and then tap Settings -> Accounts & sync.
2- On the Connect to PC screen on your phone, tap HTC Sync and then tap Done. Your phone attempts to find HTC Sync on your computer. Wait for a few seconds for the process to finish.
3- If your phone displays a message indicating that it’s unable to find HTC Sync, try disconnecting and reconnecting the USB cable, and then repeat step 2.
4- When the Phone Connection Wizard is displayed on your computer, click Next.
5- Enter the name you want for your phone, and then click Finish.
Check the HTC Sync icon at the bottom-right side of your computer screen. If it appears green in color, that means your phone has successfully connected with your computer and HTC Sync recognizes your phone.
If you still are unable to connect, please try the following (On a Vista 32-bit computer):
1- On your phone go to Settings -> Applications -> Development and turn USB Debugging ON.
2- Turn OFF your Desire and OPEN HTC Sync on your computer.
3- Connect USB cable to computer AND THEN to your phone.
4- Turn ON your phone again.
5- Now you should see a sync icon aside of the USB icon on your Desire's status bar. Pull the notification bar down and click on the sync icon and follow the steps in the HTC sync manager on your computer.
If still unresolved, try this:
1- Navigate to c:\program files
2- Create this directory structure underneath \HTC\HTC Driver\Driver Files\Vista_x86\
3- Unzip the uploaded zip file to that folder http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VCAV799X
4- Plug Phone into Computer via USB
5- Under Notifications Mount as USB Drive
6- Navigate to Storage Card\HTC Sync Tool_2.0.28\HTCSync_2.0.28 an run
7- Reboot
8- Open HTC sync, plug in your phone and follow the Wizard
First time I install HTC Sync( on my PC with Vista(32bit), it can not connect the Desire. I read the help file again, then I stop anti-virus software and re-install HTC Sync, and then it works fine.
@ Mastoid. Thanks for detailed reply and your help. However, nothing worked yet. Your file at megaupload is "unavailable" and therefore I haven't been able to try the third option.
OK - I was in the same boat and thought I had got one step closer but now back at square one::
Windows 7 32bit - and a 1 week old install so as clean as it gets - on a 1 yr old usb2.0 dell. Brand new desire - likewise.
Initially installed HT Sync from web site - no luck despite all the usual shutting down of firewalls (zonealarm & Windows) / AV (avira) / multiple reboots of PC & Desire.
Uninstalled HT Sync and associated driver.
Installed the version that came on SD card.
Rebooted Desire & PC.
Plugged USB into a different port (in case).
Win reported "android phone usb device - ready to use" but still couldn't find HTC Sync.
Then I disabled Avira AV and eureka - I connected.
Renabled AV and couldn't connect again.
Disabled it and connected again - left the default "My Desire" as device name and seemed to be paired with the PC.
Rather than syncing there and then I decided to check I could replicate the connection so I unplugged the desire without syncing.
WITHOUT CHANGING ANYTHING with the previously successful setup I immediately plugged the desire in again and ... no connection and cannot find HTC Sync.
I have now spent another hour plugging in and unplugging rebooting enabling disabling and I simply can't get a connection again - DAMMIT.
One thing I do notice though is that regardless of the fact I have turned off the annoying "usb debugging" in settings/apps/developer (that box is thouroughly unticked) it continues to run whenever I connect via HTC sync (HDD mode is fine btw).
It was running when I connected successfully though so my first thoughts that this was responsible somehow seem unfounded.
I'm now wrestling with a new OS on my PC and my mobile and am pulling my hair out - any thoughts / suggestions (other than "HTC Sync is ropey, unstable and doesn't play well with other apps) would be a blessing.
Tnx, M1
@ Mark, I am still in that boat with a hole.... sinking. No luck with HTC Sync. Tried all suggestions/advice. Both versions 2.0.28 and newer 2.0.33. Disbaling antivirus, all processes, multiple re-boots, multiple usb ports ....... I have given up.
Currently focused on Drivers and that "usb debugging" mode that just won't turn off.

Computer won't recognise my Desire.

I was wondering if anyone has any idea why. It's not a hardware issue, I just had it plugged in at work, same cord etc. I have tested the USB port with other devices and it works correctly. When I plugged in my Desire, it said installing new device and came up with this error:
Blah, can't post screenshots. It says:
Device driver software was not successfully installed
USB Composite Device X FAILED
This is my Device Manager. I tried completely uninstalling HTC Sync and the HTC Driver installer, then re-installing and the same thing happened. I'm confused and frustrated, anyone know?
And Device Manager shows the
USB Composite Device with the yellow triangle with !.
shot in the dark but try updating your pc's usb drivers
first try another computer...could be a pc problem or maybe usb brick?
I fixed it. I found in another thread after a while of searching, I uninstalled Sync, turned off my pc. While the PC was off, I unplugged all USB's bar modem/mouse/keyboard, then turned on my pc again. Booted my Desire with Disk Drive in a rear port, instead of front and it works!
Cheers ^_^
All u needed to do was uninstall the USB disk drive drivers in device manager, then plug it in again. It will detect it!... happens to other flash disks too occasionally...
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I have the same problem in extended form:
I have tested my Desire by installing the file "_HTC Wildfire_setup_3.0.5422.exe"
and then plugging the Desire in "DiscDrive"-Mode into 5 PCs,
Windows 7 32, 64 (OK, that went wrong of course), XP Pro 32 and Ubuntu Linux...
It is not recognised at all. It seems to be totally ignored by the PCs.
As if nothing would be plugged in. No searching for a driver, not announcing a new component -
simply nothing.
Do i have a non functioning USB-interface in my Desire, a damaged USB-cable, or
what is wrong here.
It never connected, since i have it, and i do not have a reference-Phone
to check, if the PCs are the reasons, or the phone.
Uninstalling & restarting, and reinstalling & restarting i have tried a hundred times -
with no luck of course.
Is therte a checking routine or a trick, how i can persue the error from here?
Thank you for any clue!
I have had the same issue but only when I plugged my Desire to usb-hub. When it's connected directly, all work flawlessly.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Interesting, but i don't use any hubs in my testings.
Any other idea, how to veryfy the function of the Desire's USB as such?

The problem wherein the device doesnt charge when connected directly, and starts charging after plugged in while switched off, is not unique to you. I have faced the same issue. However I have been unable to solve it fully. Cynogenmod Rom when installed does not have this issue, and seems to be unique to Sense based Roms.
Have you installed HTC Sync?
If so, try uninstalling all three HTC Software from Windows-HTC Sync, the Driver Setup, and BMP Driver.
Disconnect the phone.
Now reboot the PC.
Reinstall HTC software fully.
Reboot PC again.
Now start up HTC Sync, and now connect the Usb cable.

Thanks for your response, Actually I am unable to connect my device to pc, then how can i install any other ROM??
The procedure I have read from the websites require the PC to be connected with the device.
Also I didnt installed three things in my PC to sync, I just installed the HTC sync I downloaded it from the HTC website, Please tell where can I find the other two things.
Also there is an update, I have replaced the cable, Now when I connect the device to the PC, windows 7 shows un known device. But nothing is shown in the Mobile, no notification, & no list to select either "charge only" or "Disc Drive" etc
Thanks for your help
Regards
Hmm this sounds allmost exactly as USB-brick (i had one). Did you buy completely new phone or used one. You say its unrooted? Have you messed with your phone (flashing custom roms etc)?

On phone after connecting nothing appears too?

Try reinstalling the usb drivers or use a different cable. Make sure you reboot after driver installation. Also, connect the phone with pc and go to device manager and see if it appears there. if it has a yellow triangle in the device manager then you need to update the driver.
Edit: when you connect your phone, does it start charging? because if that is not the case then your phone`s usb port might be damaged

also try another usb port, sometimes one usb port at my pc makes problems.
have you tried another PC?
Maybe is there anything corrupt whith your USB connector..
I had this issue and assumed it was the PC. One day I used the HTC cable that came with the phone and it worked fine. Turned out to be the cheap USB cables I got on ebay. Phone would charge fine, but would not connect properly.

Uninstall all HTC Drives and HTC Sync.
Plug the phone to USB, and see if the PC responds. Does it try to automatically install HTC Sync? If so, don't allow it.
Does the PC recognize the phone at all in Device Manager (with all HTC software uninstalled)? If so, select the option to select drivers manually then pick generic Android MTP device (or something to that effect).
Have you rebooted the pc... Then plug in the phone?
And did it work on that pc before?

Not a good sign that your PC doesn't recognize at all. Its possible the phone's USB port is damaged, so it will charge but not connect to sync to data.
Can you try a different computer?
ill try and update u
