Hey guys,
I'm doing a favour for a friend. he got a Galaxy Nexus last week, tried to flash AOKP and messed up - I'm gonna try and fix it for him while he's away for the week. I've posted this on the AOKP forum but xda is where I live so I figured I'd see what you guys thought.
So the basic situation is -
He went to unlock the bootloader after he bought it and got "error - already unlocked", so he thought, cool, it's unlocked. Flashed root, installed ROM manager, flashed latest version of CWM permanently.
Didn't make a Nandroid backup, because he's an idiot.
Went to install the GSM maguro build 37 version of AOKP, flashed that and gapps
Now the phone won't boot and gets stuck at the pink unicorn screen. It's not a bootloop, it just shows the pink unicorn for infinity.
I've flashed a few roms on my device in my time (HD2, Sensation) but I've never owned a Galaxy Nexus. If this was me I'd just put another rom on the SD card and try again. But it's not removable, recovery gives me an error of "unable to open ums lunfile (no such file or directory)" when I try and mount USB storage in CWM.
Even if I could put another ROM on there, I've got no idea what he's done wrong, as from what I can figure out the GSM build 37 of AOKP should be booting fine.
Basically I'm at a loss and I really want to help him out - can anyone offer any advice?
Thanks for reading,
EDIT: forgot to mention we're in Australia and he purchased the Galaxy Nexus from Vodafone if that makes any difference
If he has the recovery flashed then with the power off hold volume up and power to get into bootloader

Reflash the stock rom and go from there. See the "flash" link in my sig.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Use adb to push the new from zip to the sdcard, you can't mount storage from cwm because the gnex doesn't use ums.
If all else fails you can flash factory images via fastboot so nothing is broken.
I don't think I was particularly clear - I don't know how to get the stock rom onto the "storage" part of the phone. When I try and toggle USB storage in CWM it gives me the error unable to open ums lunfile (no such file or directory)
Also, in fastboot, when I try and do "adb devices" it says "no device connected" even though it is connected
You don't need it in the phone storage to flash it by fastboot.
Does your PC have the correct drivers for the phone, if it doesn't adb won't find it

yeah it does, i downloaded the samsung ones, navigated to device manager and installed them manually

If you are in fastboot mode, "adb devices" will tell you nothing is connected, as adb does not work in fastboot mode...

I've got stock ICS back up and running on the phone, and have made a Nandroid backup to make sure this doesn't happen again. Still can't get AOKP to boot though - I've got no idea what I'm doing wrong
MD5's verified?
And you're flashing for the correct device, yes?

After you flash aokp in CWM, are you wiping? In most cases, that is the problem people are having. Wipe data, cache and the Dalvik cache, and it should boot.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
It wasn't either of those things actually - it was the kernel. I'd tried clearing data and cache with no luck, but when I flashed the GLaDOS kernel straight after AOKP it booted fine and is now running with no problems at all.
I've got no idea why, but it's all working fine. Thanks to all who helped me today, my friend now has a fully working GNEX with AOKP!
Hey guys,
I tried flashing the ICS rom (cm-9-20120420-ODIN-galaxy2.tar.tar) yesterday, My Samsung Galazxy S2 is already rooted, but when the phone rebooted after flashing the custom rom, it reboots to a black screen with a blue light lit. i can boot into CMW recovery, but when i try to restore from the NAndroid, it gives the error E:Can't mount sdcard. when i try to mount the sdcard, it gives the same error. When i put the phone into download mode to use ODIN to reflash it, ODIN doesn't even recognize the phone. if itry to format the card through CMW, it gievs Error mounting sdcard.....skipping format....Done.. If i try mount USB storage, it gives E: unable to write to ums lunfile (no such file or...) How do i fix this, is it bricked? i never ran into this problem when i use to flash my EVO 4G, TP2, TP, or WM 6.5 Mogul.
Make sure you have the proper drivers installed on your computer and try a different cable. I think Odin is your only hope unless you try an external SD card.

I download the Samsung drivers from the website and downloaded Kies. When i try to push the rom through ADB, ADB cmd does not show the phone under listed devicesor it does not show up in Device Manager.

try reformatting the card in a PC or different phone & see if it reads.. it could be a corrupt card, but if you can get to recovery it shouldn't be bricked

Once again. Your do not own a Galaxy S2, you own a Galaxy S2 Epic 4G Touch. Unless the page you downloaded the file from has Epic 4G Touch written all over it, it probably has NOTHING to do with your phone.
You will not find any CM9 build for our phone on Cyanogen Mod's website and you will never flash a rom, tar or anything that is marked for the i9100 or any other variant other than the SPH-D710 to your device.
The bootloader in the International tar you ODIN'd will not work with your phones USB. You will never ODIN anything again in this state. Get it jtag'd or replaced. You can sit here and fart around with it but you flashed software that was not compatible with the your hardware and most of it will no longer work until it has been replaced.

That is a garunteed brick. Just like the ICS leaks from samsung the bootloader borks the usb and storage can not be mounted.
It is NOT for your phone. Flashing roms from that section is just plain suicidal. Its like playing russian roulette with a full cylinder. The SPH-D710 is not an i9100. Lets say had it even come close to working you would have NO voice and No Data. The i9100 is a GSM phone, not CDMA and it does not use WiMax. The hardware in your phone is WAY different.
Our phone is here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1563658 and the nightlies are on goo.im
Something has gone horribly wrong... I was running rooted/stock using the Team Epic procedure for several months now without a problem. I attempted to return to stock tonight using the method posted here:
http://www.epiccm.org/2012/06/sprint-sgs3-stock-restore.html
Something has gone horribly wrong. I get the Samsung splash screens but then it goes to a pulsing blue to purple LED and that's it.
I can get it into download mode and bring up CWM to select the ROM, but that's it.
I'm in over my head here, big-time I thought I had it figured out, but apparently not.... Help!!
Thanks, gang!
if you can get into recovery mode this is the best i can think of to do, is go to this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1904099 and download the one for your size phone then copy it onto a sd card, put it in your phone and enter recovery mode and flash it. youll be back to factory.

I'm still a HUGE rookie... what's a nandroid? (and if I have to ask, I'm sure I didn't...) It wasn't in the instructions from the Team Epic guys...
I have been using Titanium Backup Pro for Root to do backups every few days to DropBox... I'm hoping that will prove to be useful here... If I can get it working again.... Download time is up to 32 minutes now... Nuts!
nandroid is a whole phone backup that you do in recovery.how your phone is, is what the back up will be. and yeah that download time is carzy but sometimes it will speed up.
tb is only app backups really, so after you get your phone running like a champ again, you run tb and re install your apps and their data.
hope it works out for you thou

OK, so once this is finished downloading, what comes next? I'm still a little confused on the whole 'odexed/dedexed' thing... I'm assuming I need to load it onto the SD card (which I can do), plug that into the phone, and then select it from CWM? Or do I need to go back to the stock recovery first using Odin?

Don't worry about odexed or deodexed right now, after you flash that, you will be back at stock as if you just walked out the store with your phone, factory, then you can start all over,,, that rom/file will make your phone stock.

So far, no luck... It appears that the download aborted after I went to bed. The file was supposed to be 806Mb, but came in at 432Mb. If I try to load it onto the phone, it says, "Can't open /external...(long file name)....zip (bad). Installation aborted.
I also downloaded the MD4 file last night, and that appears to have been successful. It seems to be working properly for the moment. It's mounting the partition which is a good start.

ETA: Looking good.... Got the Sprint splash screen, and now the 'Android is Upgrading, Optimizing app XX of XXX'....
Aaaand, we're live people!! Success! MD4 is up and running, and there doesn't seem to have been ANY loss of data.... It didn't exactly return it to stock either as all my data is all still there, but it does appear to have removed SuperUser, which would mean I'm no longer rooted, correct? It also appears to have gone back to the stock recovery. So to re-root, does the 'Team Epic Root from Recovery' method I used before still work? (i.e. use Odin to install custom recovery, then flash the Team Epic Root from Recovery .zip file)
THanks a million, gang! At least I have a working phone again, with apparently no loss of data at the moment. It'll be nice to have my Root back eventually, so Tasker can do its thing, but for now, it's more than a paperweight!

If I understand correctly, I can still use the same Team Epic Root from Recovery file to install the CWM recovery regardless of which version (MB1 or MD4) I have on my phone, right? Or is there a different tar file I need to use to root the MD4 version?
Sorry for the dumb questions... Very new to this stuff still...
just use the same method you did the first time you rooted and youll be good to go.

you will note that in recovery mode, you can mount your sd (formatted or not) to your pc. This will allow you to transfer files from/to your pc

It has to do with non stock kernels. With my kernel for aosp occasionally it'll sit at the splash screen for up to 5 min. Sometimes flashing something to system helps. When it does this to me I reflash my kernel and it boots right up even though there are zero changes

Do you have another Rom you can install? Or a backup you can restore from? Reason why it's stuck on white HTC screen is there is no operating system loaded in it. Go in to recovery do a full wipe and install a Rom.

Try to push a file to your phone while in hboot using adb. Power and volume down to get there.

Tried all day (about to pull my hair out) but could not get the rom in the bootloader using adb..Everytime I selected install zip from sideload it said files not found. Have seen Micro SD adapters in some other threads that are supposed to work on the One. Some of the dudes in the thread said they keep their roms on the sd card and flash them with the adaptor. Anyone think that would work. Sounds like the old days.
Any ideas on what I should do next?

USB to go works I know I've done it.
I ordered the Meenova SD adapter last night because it said it was compatible with the HTC One. Is that what you used?
How did the process work?

You could always flash the stock RUU and copy the rom that way.
Do you flash the ruu with adb? I am having trouble getting the data to the bootloader.

Download the RUU from here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2437436
Reboot to the bootloader, go to fastboot
do fastboot oem rebootRUU
After it reboots to RUU, do fastboot flash zip nameofzip
Let the process finish and you should be back on stock.
Once you fix it never wipe the internal storage. I learned the hard way with the nexus 7 lol

Yeah,it was an accident, hit the wrong button while talking to a friend. I guess it was a problem with the kernal that caused it not to be able to reboot and started all this. Thanks for the help and will work on the phone this afternoon. Guess the Meenova OTG usb will be here Monday or Tuesday.
