Rom creating and what not

Hi, i've been reading up on some post and videos around here, gathering info on how to create my own custom rom. Im 17, i know some of you might not take me seriously, but i need help. What do some of you Devs use to create the roms? any tips or suggestions?
Anything is appreciated.

Do you just want a modified/themed stock ROM or do you want to learn how to build from source?

well right now im wanting to do a modified/themed stock rom, but i do want to learn how to build from source.

Idk what I can say about making themed stock ROMs other than check out dsixda kitchen and uot kitchen. In my opinion I don't like themed stock ROMs. They are all pretty much the same with a different theme and the devs keep releasing full ROMs calling them something new but in reality it's just a new theme.
On the other hand for building a ROM from source, do some research on source.android.com and wiki.cyanogenmod.com
You can also join everyone on irc.freenode.net channels #ics-dev-e4gt and #jb-dev-e4gt and just see what the devs are working on, most are willing to help out and give advice, even for noobs like me.

Someone needs to say it... why should we download 300+Mb when we could download something like 30Mb instead.

Totally this.
I'm on FI03 Rooted, SGS Launcher, JB AOSP drop down notification, De bloated manually, Under Clocked to 1100, etc. etc. Hmm only dump it make a zip and Magic....
[ROM] [NEW] [Debloated FI03] ICS/JB Wirlpool v1.0.1 ROM[+Battery Saver Mods]....... Pssstt to make It only added about 30Mb+ to stock FI03 to make it look different.. Shhhhh! :sly:

I know we're derailing this topic, but in my opinion we don't need all these themed ROMs. Just wrap it all up in 1 zip, flash it over the stock ROM it was built for, and voila... you have a themed/modified stock ROM.
Back to the topic, if you want to learn about ROM development you can learn a lot from what I posted earlier and just browsing XDA.

Go through the forums and read, pick whatever looks appealing. There's a lot of choices...if you want TouchWiz check out all of the great TouchWiz ROMs (there's several Jellybean ROMs now), if you're tired of TW go to the Original section and check out the AOSP ROMs like AOKP and whatnot.

ROM OdexedBlue
Kernel Stock LJ7
Baseband LJ7
A beta JB version is in development right now, & will be out within next 2 weeks. The ICS 6.1 version of the ROM though is fully themed, beautiful, stable, and impressive in every way.

Personal favorites are aokp for aosp ROMs and JellyBomb for TW ROMs

I am currently on the "Goodness" "Jellybean edition" LJ7 rom v.4.0.0 posted by Big Toys Rock under SGS3 Android Development section and loving it!

You got to try wicked sensations!!! Had it on my epic touch now on my gs3

Aosp, I'd recommend aokp/cm10.
For Touchwiz, I'd recommend freegs3 v1.0.

If you want a working wifi tether, an AOKP rom.

I tried cm10 it was a lot of fun and better when used with NOVA launcher.
But I missed some of the basics of my TW JB.
Plus but seemed to have some problems with my Pandora it was weird.

@OP. Best ROM threads are generally frowned upon because the almost always turn into pissing matches.
Your best bet is to go to the Dev section and read a few OPs. If one of them is your style, then go to the last 10 pages or so and see about any bugs or whatnot. If you like, then read, read, read.

Initially I wasn't having good results with your build but I re-flashed it just in case it was a bad flash and it's smooth as hell now and works great. Thank you guys for working on this for the community!

im the same way im die hard aosp but this new tw has a lot of features and is worth a look at. like news and facebook feeds on the lock screen and a very customizable messaging app and more.. downside, its hard to judge now because its still in beta phase but yeah its a little slow and unresponsive

Ptmr3 is using the skyrocket JB TW leak and making it work better for our phone. Like TDJ did with ICS skyrocket leaks for our phone

- Intergalactic Connectivity (Rushing)-------Very fast rom no "intergalactic connectivity" same tmobile meta redirect great reception no reboot to recovery cant really say anything else everything else is posted by dev.
- Official Slimbean 3.1 (Gmillz) ****ing amazing! super fast, lots of personalization features, sounds amazing with "pimp my rom" downloaded beats and poweramp combo (Best I've heard on any rom I've flashed) be sure to get Beats installer from play store for the icon follow the install instructions. Don't use any custom boot animations, they seem to all make the system become unresponsive right off the bat
- Unofficial Slimbean (onlychevys)-----Haven't flashed yet.
- Slim AOKP Light / Superlight (android88) ----Flashing next <3
- JediKnight 6 (Ptmr3)---Haven't flashed yet.
- Party boy v2.1 (thepartyboy)---Party boy 1 was a huge let down for me. Everything was force closing or freezing. Flashed it twice, meh. I'll wait for it to evolve.
- Lightning Zap Kernel Kang (Krazeecracker)-----Haven't flashed, not too big on ****ing with Herc's kernel, I leave that to the Dev in thier roms
- Kko Kernel KANG (TheLastSidekick)-----^^^^^^^^^
- Miui 2.12.7 (OxD34D)-----It's been a while since I've flashed Miui, not since thier earlier jb releases. Looking forward to it.
- All Star ROM v5 (Tmogalaxys2)-----Average rom, not bad or good really. everything worked had all the winning features from different devs. didn't wow me in any way though. Went back to Infamous 3.1 after a day. Btw, The Unicef Rom is the ****ing ****! I loved it, only reason I switched was to find a rom I could tether or hotspot with. (no such luck)
- LiquidSmooth Rc9 Kang (TheLastSidekick)----Haven't tried the Kang version yet.
--For fully functioning ICS rom straight out of the box, I will always go back to Infamous 3.1
--- So far, my JB preference is a toss up between SlimBean3.1 and TheUnicefRom10.5
I really enjoyed AOKP milestone1 official
OH YEAH!!! BRING BACK THE ORIGINAL CM10 BOOT ANIMATION!! CID FTW! THATS **** WAS LIKE GOING ****ING SUPER SAIYAN!! RED EYE CID IS BEAST!!

I'm currently running Jedi Jelly 2 ROM - best one I've ever ran on ANY phone I've ever owned. I absolutely love it and it does everything as advertised! Only way I'm going back to stock is if I sell the phone!

[Q] Any ROMS with original S3 look?

So I know that ROMS aren't only for looks. I know they're good for making the system run smoother and heard in some cases, it can save battery life. But unfortunately I never liked any of the looks of the ROMS. I remember having CM10 at one point and crying to get back to the stock ROM. So are there any ROMS that are better for the phone but still give you the original S3 look?

You have to decide which rom is best for you.... just look for any thing stock.

Depends on you, but I like LiquidSmooth ROM

Freegs3 gives you the stock look and runs great. Only negative to that rom is that it hasn't been updated in a while

Jedi X is an international (N7105) based rom, and so is the theme, so it would make sense that there are no issues with that combination. Tweaked is T-Mobile based, and I mess w/ a bunch of things in SystemUI, so I'm not overly surprised that you had a statusbar (SystemUI) issue.

You could just run my ROM or wait until make the theme for tweaked (and only tweaked )

Actually was hoping for a port for Tweaked, especially since dwitherell is taking a little break. Hopefully, that would make it easier to complete and then not have to worry about the ROM being updated.

Well I decided to make the theme from my ROM for tweaked (and tweaked only) while maintaining my ROM. I won't be adding apps to the theme so it won't have the new svoice etc like my ROM because that would be changing the ROM itself in a way, though these are all easy to get yourself. I'm a big tweaked fan and dwitherell has been so helpful to me that it only seems right dive fellow tweaked want the s4 theme.

It's stock T-Mo based, so it would have wifi calling
EDIT: This is in reference to kintwofan's stuff - sounds confusing in hindsight given the original Jedi X conversation... my bad.

What theme? The one on the op will only work on jedi x because it's international based (so no wifi calling)
