Hey guys,
I am having this issue with my BELL note 2. I am not able to flash this ROM ([ROM][2/9] CleanROM ACE 4.5 -★| Unrivaled Performance Stability! | The Clean Way! |★-Like Tweet +1 ) because TWRP gives me an error saying missing MD5 file. But when i try to load another ROM for example the Paranoid Android ROM, i am able to flash it with no problems because i think it skips the MD5 fiile check.
Also the author of the cleanROM ACE 4.5 has provided the MD5 number, but i just dont know how to use it and dont want to do anything stupid that would result a bricked phone.
Link for clean ROM ace 4.5 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1986893.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

No, i did not change any file names.
- saved the rom in sd card
- went to recovery mode, on twrp
- did a factory reset
-installed the rom
- wiped cache and dalvik cache..
i still get the MD5 file missing error......
You missed a couple steps.. go look at the rom op
and cheach again

Another trouble shooting path is to dl the rom onto your computer then transfer it over..
After factory reset,, wipe system then flash rom
md5 tool is missing on Note 2
If you look in the /system/bin folder there is no symbolic link from md5 to toolbox, like there is on other android devices.
Is this your problem?
---------- Post added at 03:16 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:06 PM ----------
If your tool is trying to verify the rom using /system/bin/md5 it will fail because AT&T has removed this command from their build.

Im trying to flash the evo classic rom and it keeps telling me it won't open. I looked at the rom and its compressed so I thought that could be the problem. I tried uncompressing it with astro and it wouldn't work. Does anyone know if I can flash a compressed rom or why my phone can't open it? Currently I'm running myns warm 2.2.
All ROMs are compressed into a .zip you probably have a bad download or you downloaded the update which requires a previous version of classic to be installed check your md5 sum if it matches make sure the rom doesn't have update in the name it should just say classic and the version number v0.0.4 0.0.5 0.0.6 etc

I'm not sure what the md5 sum is or how to check it. I downloaded classic-v005-01-02-finale-senseless.
I'm not sure if thats just an update or what. Thanks

If you double click the .zip, does it open or say invalid?
if it's invalid, it's a bad download. Re download and try again.

Seems to be a full rom.

I downloaded CM 10.1 nightly build ( cm-10.1-20130130-NIGHTLY-d2tmo.zip ) and got the error Installation aborted. Did I do something wrong? I know it maybe a dumb question but... did I brick my phone??
This is what I got:

Oh boy, what recovery are you using? I'm pretty sure you are using an old version and need to update... besides the 1-30 nightly is loaded with bugs I've been reading. restore your nandroid and update your recovery and wait for the next nightly.

A little to over my head I guess. I think its clockworkmod recovery version 5 (CWM-Recovery-LTE-SGS3-v5).
Restore my nandroid? I don't think I made a restore point, after the error I just went back and rebooted..
Was I supposed to do that?
It looks to be working, I rebooted twice and I don't think I messed it up. Though now I'm paranoid..

Yeah it's because you need to update cwm, make sure you flash the correct one.. And if its booting fine then you're ok, but you should always make a backup of a working ROM if your gonna do some tinkering with your phone as a safety precaution, it really bails you out at times

I'm in the process of backing up now. Is there anything special I need to do to upgrade my cwm recovery? I've heard updating cwm recovery could result in a soft brick, is that correct?
If you have rom manager just press update cwm.
(It actually says flash cwm)
If you don't have rom manager download it from the play store.
I wouldn't worry about bricking during this process

So the whole issue of installations being aborted is because of the outdated cwm.
I asked if it'll do a soft brick because I did a google search and came across multiple posts warning the use of Rom Manager. Any way to uninstall CWM and replace it with something else.
Yes to installation abortion.
To replace CWM, just flash another recovery over it.
You can just get TWRP from goomanager from the play store. Just flash it over and you'll be good to go.

Great... another error. Rooting isn't working out for me is it? Invalid MD5 sum from Goo Manager. What does that mean and what exactly can I do about it?
Nope, actually worked out after allowing download from unknown sources in security. Since I installed TWRP, can I delete the backup I made in clockworkmod recovery? I think its in my SD and its 3 GB. It titled "Clockworkmod" has folder titled "backup", then two folders "1970-04-23.05.07.43" and "1970-04-23.05.00.14".
I want to have space so that I can make a recovery using TWRP. I'm not sure if deleting this would cause more harm then not.

Thanks, you guys have been extremely helpful.
I'm about to install the rom now, I wanted your insight into if its a good rom and if I'm doing everything right.
- I've made a backup using TWRN
- Downloaded Titanium Backup, made another backup (Not sure what this will do)
- Changed Rom to AOKP Milestone 1 ( aokp_d2tmo_jb_milestone-1 )
- Downloaded Google Apps ( gapps-jb-20121212-signed )
Installation
- Run TWRN
- Going to wipe ( data/factory reset ) 3 times
- Going to wipe ( cache ) 3 times
- Select install zip from sdcard (First AOKP, then Google Apps)
- Reboot
Alright, does that look good to you? Do I have your blessings.

What's your opinion on AOKP nightly build JB-MR1 ( aokp_d2tmo_jb-mr1_build-2 ). I was looking into this because it has 4.2.1 jellybean and it was suggested I avoid CM 10.1 nightly.
I use cm10 alpha 7 , when I swap sd card by changing vold.stab I get unfortunately android.process.media stopped and I tried to open storage in settings then I get settings stopped . Possible solution ? :/ Sorry for bad english
Did you set the permissions correctly? Or did you sure the value in vold.fstab are done correctly?
Sent from my HTC Sensation using Xparent Green Tapatalk 2
as long as ur editing the vold.fstab file not copying a replacement then permissions won't change
just make sure that u only change the "1" with "0" and vice versa , don't change anythn else, then save then reboot
If u prefer just flashing a zip then u can find a link for it in another question thread i guess

CWM 6.0.2.3 ..and yes, it working..because I was able to re-install the ROM zip so I can get back the system.
During the installing of the swap sdcard zip file. I did not see any error message as well.
I had flashed SWAP ICS Version: Android 4.0.x on the S3 ROM by ipromeh..
okey then i guess the only thing you can do is try again. try this, i know you know how to flash but just try it:
1) wipe data/factory reset, wipe dalvik, wipe system, wipe cache
2) reboot to recovery
3) redo step 1
4) reboot to recovery
5) flash rom, flash gapps
6) boot rom
7) reboot rom
8) install es file manager (you may download it from play store)
9) start es file manager, enable root browsing, and edit /system/etc/vold.stab like in the attached picture
10) reboot
try and lets see
Hi. I had used manual editing on the /system/etc/bold.fstab

you should use twrp.. check the md5 of your download after you download it for accuracy. try that.. if it doesnt work u can always flash cwm again
Flash in twrp. Get twrp by downloading goo manager app and selecting install open recovery
Also are you grtiing a status 7 error?

For whatever reasons, sometimes when flashing in cwm or twrp, you will have issues and installing the other custom recovery will allow you to flash the desired ROM. you obviously then have the option to return to the custom recovery you were previously running either because you prefer it or all your backups were made in it.

Some ROm's are picky or you have a bad download. Issues with downloading that rom seem quite common. I tend to lean more towards android file host than anything.

Hey guys
I've gone through all the steps as instructed, but can't install HD RSL15 successfully. I downloaded the installation file from a mac which then automatically unzips the folder. Zipped it back up with 7zip and threw it on the phone. I went through all the prescribed steps using TWRP 2.6 and AndroidUnite's video on youtube (How To Install TWRP Recovery And Flash Custom ROM) as example . This is the 2nd time Ive downloaded the file and I switched over from CWM based on this thread's recommendations.
When it comes to installing the ROM the window ends up looking like this:
Checking for MD5 file...
Skipping MD5 check: no MD5 file found.
Error flashing zip...
Updating partition files...
FAILED
Have I done something wrong during the previous steps (flashing, installing recovery) or does it have something to do with the method of zipping the files (tried fastest and store as compression options, doing store makes the file unreadable by the phone during recovery mode)? Please help

Most likely you tried to flash some rom which was not 100% compatible with your phone.
If you can get into CWM or TWRP recovery just do a factory reset/wipe cache/wipe dalvik cache.
Do NOT wipe or format SYSTEM . This should allow your phone to boot completly.
Be sure NOT to try flashing the same rom which gave you the error 7.
If you are still having problems then continue reading...
If you have a cwm/twrp backup (nandroid) of your previous rom go back into cwm or twrp
and restore your nandroid backup.
If you don't have a nandroid backup but you do have a proper zip file custom rom saved to your sdcard
then you can flash the rom making sure you first do a factory reset/wipe cache/dalvik and system.
After that you can start over again but be sure to make a nandroid backup first.
If you still have problems after doing the above you will need to ODIN flash the stock-rooted
Samsung Galaxy S3 T999 Jellybean v4.1.1 firmware.
P.S. You would NEVER get an ERROR 7 if you would only flash stock based "Samsung Galaxy S3 T999 Jellybean v4.1.1 custom roms"
instead of those CM/AOKP/AOSP or Ported roms.
Good Luck!

First of all, make sure that you redownload the ROM, check that the MD5's match, and that you are indeed on the latest CWM recovery.
Secondly, I've heard of these status 7 errors, even when on the latest CWM recovery. There's times when installing certain ROMs where these errors occur, which usually happens when the ROM’s updater script file checks to see if the phone model of your phone is compatible with the ROM you are installing and this portion of the script are called “asserts”. with this it prevents you from accidentally flashing a ROM intended for a different model.
Normally you can fix the issue by installing TWRP recovery but there's another possible solution for this if the TWRP method doesn't solve it but take some serious precaution. You need to be very careful and do this at your own risk.
Follow this step by step guide
http://highonandroid.com/android-roms/how-to-fix-status-7-error-with-cwm-recovery-on-rooted-android/
Following this will remove the asserts thus removing protection upon flashing the wrong ROM. Do if you choose to follow this make absolutely sure that the ROM you're flashing is for the T999.

---------- Post added at 01:57 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:40 AM ----------
Status 7 errors can very well still occur through CWM recovery on stock based ROMs.. It mostly all depends on the ROMs updater script and if the dev accidentally made an error within that, which is why the asserts would normally correct that error by forcing the ROM to be flashed regardless.
