[Q] One x won't recognise computer. - HTC One X

Hi,
I want to root my One X (international) but I get stopped straight away because my phone won't connect to my computer. When I plug the USBs to both my computer and my phone nothing happens, except charging. There are no options given and the phone doesn't show up as a drive on the computer.
I've installed HTC Synch Manager, tried 4 USB cords, tried 3 computers, I've switched on USB Debugging.
The HOX is on Android 4.1.1
Any ideas? I've scoured many forums to no avail. I'd really like to try some custom roms.
Cheers,

Hello
I have the same problem with my HOX and no solution
Gr

Are you saying there is no solution or that you don't know of one? Can someone confirm that this is a known and unresolvable problem or should I keep looking for a solution?

I will have a try then.....the bootloader is untouched (locked) and the phone has never been detected by the pc before ?
Also interesteded in what OS you are running !

Do you have the latest HTC usb drivers installed? Have you checked in device manager to see if phone is visible? Latest version of HTC sync installed?

Thanks. I bought the phone second hand from a young lass who had broken the screen (which I have replaced) so I presume the phone is standard and been updated to 4.1.1.
Some software information:
Software number 3.14.862.27
HTC SDK API level 4.63
Kernel version:3.1.10-g5ebf4bc [email protected]#1 SMP PREEMPT
I don't know if the phone has ever been detected by a computer before. I have installed the latest HTC Sych Manager on my Vista computer and no, the phone isn't detected in the device manager.
Although I have rooted my previous phone (Defy) and had kept up to date with the latest roms I am still fairly new at this.
Thanks for any help.

And the OS on your pc ?

Vista

Drivers or not, when you plug it in it should be recognized as something. Or a HTC phone or a unknown device anyway....

That's what I thought but I get nothing except charge. That is why I've tried a number of cables. I'm suspecting my micro USB socket is faulty. I've cleaned it and even checked how it's mounted. Solidly soldered so I'm checking every other avenue before replacing it as I have a dead Hox for spares.
Any idea if there is a way of rooting without a computer?

Nope ...not possible without a pc

Ok. So is it your opinion that I'm stymied? Are there any other avenues I can try?
The phone is pretty good the way it is, I just like playing around with Roms etc. I'd also like to get rid of the Vodafone crap.

My guess something is broken somewhere in the usb connection....ofcourse, otherwise it would be recognized. But you figured that out already. Maybe a phone repair shop can take a quick peek at it ?
Otherwise your stuck on what you have now.

Well, it connects to the PC, but it only charges so I think this might be a software bug. Maybe you could try to root it and see if it fails at adb commands. My guess is that it will work. Just follow a rooting guide CAREFULLY and don't skip any steps.

But he can't flash anything because there is no data connection, only power connection

First make sure usb debugging is on in settings. Maybe unlocking the bootloader and rooting will work. It's done from the fastboot usb screen where adb and fastboot commands should work. Give it a try before sending for repair.

I definitely agree with his idea, but the first thing you should do is completely restore you're one x.
Then check in hboot, that's power volume down wether the device is locked or relocked.
After that get the latest drivers, connect your hox in fastboot and try to unlock your device via HTC devs.com
Good Luck.
P.S. tell us what happens, we might find a solution all together

Thanks for this. You have given me some hope.
I've done a factory reset, checked that Debugging is on and checked in Hboot, it says *** LOCKED ***
I've connected the HOX to my Vista computer in which I've installed HTC Synch Manager. I presume this installs the latest drivers?
My Hox is still not recognised by the computer. When I request the identifier token it gets stuck on < Waiting for device >
Have I followed your instructions correctly?
Edit 1: Just to be sure I repeated the procedure on my desktop computer which is also running Vista. Same results.
Is there any way of extracting the identifier token within the phone?
Edit 2: I pulled the motherboard out and checked the micro USB port with a microscope. Pretty grotty inside so I cleaned, tightened and checked it. All clean but still no computer connection.
M

Any news/luck? Would like to know the outcome for this. :banghead:

Okay, so far so good. What you can do next is: go to settings/apps/all apps
and search for the pc-sync app and check if its enabled.
Next thing, try this special debugging driver http://blog.gambliser.com/dl/?p=144.
Good luck

[Q] USB not connecting to pc

Hello everybody,
I've got a problem related to the USB not doing anything when connected to the PC. I've tried several things found on the internet. Also looked the first page of threads at the forums on XDA to this problem. This is my dad's phone so i don't know very much about known problems about the one X.
This is what i tried:
1 - 10 seconds press reboot
2 - installing drivers again and again. This with trying step 1 a lot.
3 - trying to find the "HTC one X" in the device manager to change the code to fix finding the phone in Sync manager, it couldn't even find the usb port
4 - enabled USB Debugging
5 - trying different cables and USB ports
The phone does charge the battery when connected to the PC. We unlocked the boot loader and put CWM on the phone. I thought it might be related to that.
It's the - "HTC one X".
- Branded phone Vodafone Netherlands
- ICS 4.0.4
- Root explorer can find both internal memory cards
We can't OTA update it. it goes to CWM and that says it can't find the memory card.
Could someone explain this?
It would be much appreciated :good:

It's never related on the recovery, if connecting doesn't work. Try it on another PC, and if it doesn't work anyway, try to flash a ROM.

Oke thanks for saying that.:good: I forgot to say we already tried 3 PC's. We did try it with the same HTC sync manager drivers on all three. I can't flash a rom because the device manager can't even find the device. I'm beginning to fear that it's a hardware problem
Can't connect to ADB for backup
I can't connect my HTC One X to PC either.
Is there a fix?

I have the same problem, no fix until now. The only thing I found that might work is to modify the driver itself to include the phone. But I have no idea how to do that...
You tried the latest 4.1 drivers?

You cannot OTA with a custom recovery.
Follow Brdst7t7 link above and update the drivers. then if I were you I would flash the stock recovery and relock the boot loader, then you will be able to ota to jb4.1.1. Once you have done the above steps you can unlock again and reflash cwm. Then you are free to install custom roms

My phone is not even rooted... Now, ive even tried updating it to the latest version:
android version 4.1.1 htc sense 4+
software number: 3.17.631.2
ive tried multiple PC's none work.
It could be hardware related. Return it for warranty if you can't get it to work.

[Q] Is my phone's bootloader bricked?

I am trying to update the HTC One VX AT&T version to the new JB official rom. however, i cannot use the update software on the phone or the recommended manual update as described at htc's website.
I have previously rooted and unlocked via the HTC developers code that they sent to me, and that all went fine. However, now my PC will not recognize the phone when it is in fastboot, and the HBOOT menu says I am ***TAMPERED***
Phone is recognized via HTC Sync program, and will go throught the initial steps in the RUU update file from HTC.com but as soon as the bootloader starts up, I is unrecognized again...
If anyone has any ideas or recommendations, or if there is any more information I can give you, please let me know.
Thanks in advance!

If you were unlocked and s-on then you must relock bootloader before updating with ruu.
Just type this in fastboot, without the quotes
"Fastboot oem lock" in command prompt.

how would one do this if phone is not recognized in fastboot mode via adb?
uninstall htc sync. drivers will stay. sync gets in the way sometimes. I just used the ruu from the htc site and the setup wizard did it all. very easy, you could do it that way, no need to relock bootloader. or flash one of the Jellybean roms jmz has out. that would be the easiest way.
Thanks. Tried uninstalling HTC sync, and rebooting my pc. Still hangs when the phone restarts into bootloader. Still telling me it is unrecognized...

hboot and fastboot menus are the same. the tampered part is because of the custom recovery. if you are selecting fastboot and pc is not detecting the device, thats odd. if you havent, change usb port and cable.
it is possible to get drivers issues with fastboot/hboot. when connecting usb cable after fastboot is selected does it change to FASTBOOT USB?
did you turn USB debugging on? are you going to fastboot after going into the bootloader?

I have tried with about 3 different USB cables, and every different available USB port. all to no avail. If i select fastboot manually by holding the power and volume down, then it will say fastboot, until I push the volume up or down, then it will switch to fastboot usb.
when the RUU program triggers a reboot into the fastboot mode (I'm assuming that's what it is trying to do, anyway) it just hangs on a black screen with a big white HTC logo, until the program times out and I have to exit. Restarting the phone is no issue, because it just starts up like normal.

Do "fastboot oem rebootRUU". You should see the device in device manager. Then run the ruu again.

you said that the phone gets into black screen with htc white letters. that means normal fastboot still works because the RUU sends that same command. i ask you again to check windows device manager and see if your device is there. if its not, try unplug and replug usb cable.
Unplugging and plugging the cord back in did nothing. Device manager lists the device as unknown. It says something about device reporting error.

OK. I will try that. I'm running a system I built myself with Windows 8. Do you think that windows 8 is causing some issues? my wife's laptop is still windows 7...I will try that tonight. fingers crossed!
So I tried on windows 7, and the RUU is able to get as far as the part that says updating signature, at which point it sits there for a few minutes, then gives me error 132 and tells me to download the correct rom update utility for my phone??!
Is there any chance that having twrecovery is causing this? If so, an ideas on how to go back to stock recovery?

[Q] no usb connectivity

hello
I'm having problems with no usb connectivity and would appreciate your comments
have been on viper X since I got the hox 18 months ago
coinciding with an upgrade to v 4.0.0 my usb stopped working
it charges but will not connect to a pc
I am pretty certain the problem is not with the PC or the cable as
I have used clean installs of current htc sync
and my htc desire connects happily
I've been updating incrementally with viper from stock for a while and
have successfully flashed and reflashed kernels using fastboot from sdk
and Minimal ADB
so kernel is from full rom for v4.0.0 but ROM is 4.0.5
kernel was installed and reported successfully
since then hox will not connect to PC
in bootloader it goes into fastboot usb mode but also does this when plugged into a charger
the hox is in good condition generally although has had a few falls
it does suffer from overheating when used in the car with google maps
wifi is very weak and even when connected the data is very slow
data connection is unstable and cycles H 3G G and x although will hold still for a bit
all other functions seem fine and it has reasonable battery life
I appreciate that wifi and data connection could be attributable to modules and have reflashed from zip file
I've had help so far from viper crew but I don't believe it to be a ROM issue
many thanks

Are you see your device in fastboot? If yes your USB working. Try to install viperx after full wipe everything except SD. Try other rom and see if the problem it's still there.

Give us some information to have vision on to the problem.

We already gave our pointers in the viper thread, it looks also hardware related to me. If updated drivers, differrent usb ports, new (other) usb cables dont work.
When you plug the phone stated in the bootloader/fastboot menu to the pc does the pc recognizes anything at all ?
If the windows device manager says MYHTC it should go well.

Try on different PC if no change send it for repear it will be hordware problem like @Mr Hofs say. No fastboot = hardware problem
in bootloader it goes into fastboot usb mode but also does this when plugged into a charger ----- in this I think only the Tx from the device to computer is broken your device not send information to the computer and you go in fastboot becouse the Rx on the device is working and the device go in fastboot.

Little bit of common sense and google search will get u a long way
thanks for the reply. i thought i had the drivers with the android sdk package. after a bit of googling i have downloaded an android usb package, which i had to install with the phone in hboot usb mode and it was successful. however my laptop no longer recognizes the phone when plugged in as charge only. so i am now looking for the relevant driver for this. p.s, i am a total noob at this custom /android/sdk thingymajig! once again thanks for any help
hi.after installing the driver my laptop recognises the phone in hboot mode but will not recognise it in the normal mode which it needs to be in, in order to start unrevoked. when I install the htc driver it no longer recognises hboot ! any suggestions on what I am doing wrong?

And have u installed htc sync then uninstalled sync only, leaving the drivers installed?
yes I have! I have even un installed the corresponding driver's and installed the ones required as the phone goes through reboots, and I have got to the end (surprisingly! ) whereupon it says It cannot do it, maybe because I have a newer firmware. I would gladly deal with the last hurdle (firmware) if I can get there without the malarkey of installing/reinstalling drivers. I downloaded android usb driver's from another website before seeing your reply with the link. I will try the drivers in your link and if I have no joy I would be grateful of any help in the future. thanks for your help.
