I have succesfully modded my s3 with root access, however since applying a rom, i can no longer get to clockwork by pressing power, home, volume up
do i have to run Odin everytime i want to install a new mod?
thanks
Just to make sure.. when you are trying to access recovery you press vol up + home, while holding those also press and hold power. that should get you in. don't press power first.

Having root doesn't give you clockworkmod recovery. You need to install clockworkmod or another recovery. Depending on what root you did may only give you root on the 3e recovery (stock recovery). Plus you should be able to get into recovery with the method above whether it is stock 3e recovery or cwm recovery.

You can download rom manager from the play store, Which is cwm's app. I also use Powertool from the play store to reboot into recovery and download, makes it a million times easier.

Hey all,
I'm an EVO user. My cousin wanted me to root his G2 last night which we successfully did (permanent root method). We loaded the Virtuous ROM but could not get flash to work so we then loaded the Sillian Sense ROM and shortly after running the ROM LOST ROOT. I wasn't sure if this was due to not flashing the Superuser Patch or not. I had to load all ROMS with ROM Manager as the device is not liking Clockwork Recovery. When I try to wipe cache and Dalvik, It just displays the ROM Manager Icon and does nothing. Can someone please assist? Right now he is running the Sillian ROM as we can not reboot into recovery to load the Stock ROM backup.
So you have s-off when you hold down volume + power at the bootloader?

Found out that you have to use the camera button to make selections in Clockwork Recovery instead of the power button.

With the latest ClockWorkMod recovery (v3.0.0.5) you can also use the trackpad to both scroll and select.

Why does my phone not have a recovery or download option in the power menu? I recently unbricked my phone and i used a stock rom root injected so im on 4.0.4 and I want to flash this camera mod but i dont have a recovery option in the power menu to do it. So i used toolkit to boot into recovery and flash it but it just bricked my phone again. Does my phone not have a real root? Or is it the camera mod?
You're describing a feature normally associated with custom ROMs that's not present in stock.
If you have an alternate recovery (e.g. CWM) installed and want to enter it from a stock ROM, you'll need to use the three finger salute (reboot phone and hold Vol Up + Home + Power at power cycle) to enter recovery.
Download Quick Boot from the Play Store. It has the option to boot into recovery. Also if you have Rom Manager installed it also has the option to reboot into recovery.
Which version of cwm are you using? Have you tty to flash one of the ROM you can find in the development section?

I have already rooted my S3 and installed AOKP, but I forgot to sync my contacts with Google, so I had to install the stock ROM and then get all my contacts back using Kies.
So, I want to Root my phone again and get AOKP back as I have now syncd my Contacts with Google.
I booted up Odin and put on the file CWM Recovery.tar
I try to go into Clockwork Mod Recovery mode (volume up, home, Pwr buttons), but I get into just the regular Android system recovery (3e) mode and not Clockwork Mod Recovery.
Any suggestions?!?!
Also, in download mode, it states that I have:
Binary: 4 counts
Current Binary: Custom
System Status: Custom
How can I get into Clock work mode recovery???
All I want to do is install a custom ROM...!
After using Odin to install the .tar file and having it downloaded successfully with Odin, I still cant get into CMR mode. I am definitely holding down the Vol Up, Pwr & Home buttons at the same time.
Maybe I should clear a cache or reset something?!

So in ROM Manager, I select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" or "Flash ClockworkMod Touch"
sorry for the nOOb questions...
I have tried to "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" using ROM Manager and get an error: An error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands!
I have also installed Triangle Away to reset my binary counter, but that doesnt work since my phone needs to be rooted.
Use this toolkit. It worked perfectly fir me. Just make sure you follow the directions.

And make sure you read everything carefully before you start flashing. Also make a backup of your IMEI. This will save you a headache later.

I have a rooted bone stock UCALG1 ROM that you can flash in ODIN. Then download ROM manager like the other member said to flash CWR. If you want touch without paying for it through Play you have to use Terminal Emulator to push it. I can give instructions for that also if you need them. If you want the rooted UCALG1 zip let me know.
If ROM manager is giving that message either it asked for root and you accidentally clicked deny or it isn't rooted properly. That's the only time i've encountered that message myself.
And Triangle Away will reset that flash counter for you
Hi guys, I know this question might sound stupid, but how do I enter the CMW recovery menu?
I tried the Home, Vol Up, and power button, but that gets me into Stock Recovery.
I tried, Home, Vol Down, and power, but that gets me to the upgrade menu.
I have flashed the CMW recovery, and only been able to get into right after the flash by holding down the Vol Up, Home, and power. The phone is rooted with the stock ROM.
Do I have to upload the CMW everytime i want to access it?
You are doing it right with volume up home and power but for some reason your flash is not staying. Try flashing twrp with goo.im and see if that stays.

Download Rom manager from play store an use it to flash recovery. Then do the vol+ menu + power or use the Rom manager to reboot to recovery.

Are you shure you are rooting right? Did you use odin to root, make shure that when rooting you dont let odin reboot your s3 after root remove battery put back, then press vol up vol down and power, after it vivrated let go, now u should be in cwr, now flash super su. If you let odin reboot ur s3, then you will not have root. And b back to stock recovery.

cwm not staying
If you have the stock ICS version, it erases and overwrites the CWM recovery every time you reboot.
Might be a good time to check Triangle Away at the same time. I believe each time you install the CWM Recovery it ticks the change counter too.
You will need to rename or delete these two files.
/system/recovery-from-boot.p
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
use root explorer to rename them

I think you mixed up something.
Volume down+home+power button is download mode. Which is for odin flashing purpose.
I do believe you wanna root your phone by update thru recovery. The 3e recovery is samsung stock recovery, you can root your phone thru update related file.
To flash or install rom thru sd card you must be in custom recovery not the 3e stock recovery. That means you must be root your phone 1st thru stock recovery.
Use search button and find * dr.ketan note 2 rooting guide. It is most comprehensive guide to newbie. ( and remember to press thanks button on dr.ketan tread.)
Warning: check you model thru antutu scores before do anything.
Good luck mate.

Sound interesting. ....if you press volume up+home+power what mode you get?
Im really have no ideal at all. Although I knew same of the devices like korean galaxy s having different way to boot into download mode if compare with galaxy s international model.
If I were u, I will :
- double check device s model and bootloader.
- flash related stock rom thru pc odin.
- root devices with cf root thru pc odin .
And see what happen.

when I press the Volume up + home + power I get something called "Factory Mode" with "Full Test/ Item Test/ Clear eMMC/ Reboot" as options.
I just want to know how to install recovery then I will all set.
How can I flash the related stock when I can't get into the downloading mode?
