Hi guys, I know this question might sound stupid, but how do I enter the CMW recovery menu?
I tried the Home, Vol Up, and power button, but that gets me into Stock Recovery.
I tried, Home, Vol Down, and power, but that gets me to the upgrade menu.
I have flashed the CMW recovery, and only been able to get into right after the flash by holding down the Vol Up, Home, and power. The phone is rooted with the stock ROM.
Do I have to upload the CMW everytime i want to access it?
You are doing it right with volume up home and power but for some reason your flash is not staying. Try flashing twrp with goo.im and see if that stays.

Download Rom manager from play store an use it to flash recovery. Then do the vol+ menu + power or use the Rom manager to reboot to recovery.

Are you shure you are rooting right? Did you use odin to root, make shure that when rooting you dont let odin reboot your s3 after root remove battery put back, then press vol up vol down and power, after it vivrated let go, now u should be in cwr, now flash super su. If you let odin reboot ur s3, then you will not have root. And b back to stock recovery.

cwm not staying
If you have the stock ICS version, it erases and overwrites the CWM recovery every time you reboot.
Might be a good time to check Triangle Away at the same time. I believe each time you install the CWM Recovery it ticks the change counter too.
You will need to rename or delete these two files.
/system/recovery-from-boot.p
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
use root explorer to rename them

Ok i had a rooted phone,
and installed rom manager it was also flashed to cricket wirelss also.
anyways i decided to try and install the cm7
So i did and before that i made a back up via rom manager app
And so i updated and it installed
and now when i turn on phone
It stays at the cyanogen mod 7 with icon blue icon screen
and circle thing
How do i boot into recovery menu????
I had the latest recovery menu also,
I NEED HELp i just want to restore my backup from before.
First off you should power it off completely, then hold the power button and volume down at the same time. Next, you need to navigate the bootloader and go down(with volume down key) and select recovery with the power key. That should take you to recovery. I hope you made a nandroid before you flash another rom; if you did just restore your nandroid and you should be good to go.

I have attempted to install CWM Recovery on the Samsung i747 (Bell Mobility). At first, I flashed the Recovery using Odin and could only access the stock recovery. I soon found out after searching the forums that the phone writes over the recovery on next boot with the stock recovery.
I then read that I should turn off auto-reboot in Odin and after installing the recovery, pull the battery and reboot directly into recovery. Upon doing this (holding volume up, home and power), I get a quick flash of the Samsung boot screen with the blue text at the top and then a blank screen for a few seconds, the phone vibrates and reboots normally. It seems like the recovery is corrupted and no matter how many times I re-flash the recovery in Odin, I can't boot into it.
Download mode works normally and the phone boots normally. I need to be able to fix the recovery, even if that means recovering the stock recovery.
Does anyone have any idea how I could do this?
Thanks!
Are y ou rooted?

Follow the proper directions for adb push of clockwork. Two methods easy as it gets. No need for odin past acquiring root.
Yes, rooted.
I am rooted now, yes.

As soon as you see that Samsung logo with the blue at the top, let go of the power button but continue to hold the volume up plus the home button until it reaches the recovery screen. If u don't let off of the power button at that point it will boot normally.
Noob here... So I just bought a Galaxy S3, my second Android phone, yesterday through AT&T. I decided to root the phone right away and istall clockworkmod recovery using Odin for both. I rooted the phone first and then rebooted to make sure everything was ok and it was. The phone would still boot into recovery and into download mode. After this I flashed clockworkmod recovery and everything seemed to go fine ... Odin did it's thing and I got the green "pass" box. I then tried several times to enter recovery using the button press method and the only thing that happened was my phone turned off. When I couldn't get into recovery mode using the button press method I downloaded rommanager and tried to boot to cwm recovery using that method and got an error message that told me I first needed to flash cwm recovery to the device so I flashed cwm recovery to the phone using rommanager. After flashing cwm recovery to the phone using rommanager I am now able to boot to recovery using rommanager but I'm still not able to use the button press method and I also realized this morning that I am not able to enter into download mode using the button press method either. I really want to flash the stable cyanogenmod9 rom to this phone but am scared to without having the button press recovery method as an option incase anything goes wrong.
Just to double check, what button combos are you using?
recovery=from a powered down state.volume up,home button, and power. hold all three until blue writing appears on the top of the screen, then release all three buttons.
download=volume down,home, and power.
Also, if its not the method you used to install CWM, you could try the Snapdragon tool kit to install it as well http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746665

Yeah those are the button combos I am using. Thanks for the input I was thinking about trying to reinstall cwm recovery when I get home from work using a different method I'll look into the snapdragon tool kit.

You are gonna have to change 2 file names.
/system/recovery-from-boot.p
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
Just rename them so that you can get them back if you ever need to update. I added -delete- to the end of mine. Reflash CWM through ROM manager & then try to manually boot CWM. Hit thanks if this does the trick.

I have succesfully modded my s3 with root access, however since applying a rom, i can no longer get to clockwork by pressing power, home, volume up
do i have to run Odin everytime i want to install a new mod?
thanks
Just to make sure.. when you are trying to access recovery you press vol up + home, while holding those also press and hold power. that should get you in. don't press power first.

Having root doesn't give you clockworkmod recovery. You need to install clockworkmod or another recovery. Depending on what root you did may only give you root on the 3e recovery (stock recovery). Plus you should be able to get into recovery with the method above whether it is stock 3e recovery or cwm recovery.

You can download rom manager from the play store, Which is cwm's app. I also use Powertool from the play store to reboot into recovery and download, makes it a million times easier.

Crap..I did a stupid booboo..I did a factory wipe through TWRP and forgot to install the new ROM. I let the system boot up after the wipe and now I can't access the phone or get into recovery mode. I try holding down all the buttons and it keep on booting me into the phone, but it in safe mode. The launcher keep on FC on me.
How do I access the phone so I can use Odin on it?
Peter
Pull battery and press down, hone and power button again til screen shows download mode. When you get to download mode flash stock rom of your choice.
