insufficent storage - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II
my note II is reporting insufficent storage when I have over 4 gigs of internal storage and over 2 gigs of sd card space. Wth? It only happens with installing some apps. None of the apps update at all. They all say "error insufficient storage"? How, with over 4 GB's worth of internal storage. Also, why can I install APP2SD yet cannot install any google apps, facebook etc...???? Anyone run into this problem? I searched on here and google with no solution. Everyone says to "free up space" in other forums on the web.
Im not expert but my understanding is that samsung format build memory "special" way. Part of 16 gig is used as internal memory and rest as sd card. When you install own sd card that card for become ext sd. Use file manager and move some videos, pictures and music from internal storage and SD card to your ext SD card. App2sd doesn't work on Jellybean

Thx for the reply but I have already cleared sdcard. I have over 5gigs qorth of space on my sdcard0 and over 3gb of space on my extcard. Some apps i download from market installs fine without a problem. I.e. apps2sd, facebook messenger app. However, theres apps that i would download which says "error insufficient space" i.e. facebook app, google drive app etc... I really dont know what else to try.
Thanks for the apps2sd card insight. I didn't know apps2sd didn't work on jb.
If anyone else xan help i'll greatly appreciate it. Trying to get facebook back on my note II after uninstalling it.
Install App Cache Cleaner from Play Store and give a try before you do factory reset.

Wrong. All wrong.
Assuming you are rooted with a custom recovery?
Go to your device settings/applications, find the play store app, clear data on it, also find your downloads app and do the same.
Make sure you are on the latest version of twrp.
Boot to recovery, clear cache, and dalvik cache. Then fix permissions and reboot.
Fix permissions is under advanced settings in recovery.

Lol, clear ram memory before installing those apps.
(seriously)
Sometimes it needs more ram than you have to install. Creating this will let you install the app.
Also, try deleting the cloud agent file in storage. It's usually hogging an ungodly amount of storage on your internal memory.

Tried clearing RAM and it didn't work. All I am doing is trying to update apps and it says insufficient storage available. Now are we talking about read only memory or random access memory because I cant see how clearing ram would have anything to do with storage. I could be wrong though.

Try deleting the cloud agent file.
Otherwise we need more information.
Which program you are updating?
How large?
Screen shot of memory page?
One last note, when I was using my n4, Facebook had a bugged update, which kept telling me that I didn't have enough memory. A couple of days later, they fixed it. And it updated normally.

Thanks for the reply. I truly believe that this is a Play Store issue because I can side load any app without any problems from Amazon Appstore for instance. As far as apps I am trying to update they are Google Play Music and Twitter. I will get a screen shot soon but my cloudagent file shows 0 bytes.

You only have 1.3 gigs of free space. You have either a ton of apps or games that suck up memory (like the stock need for speed game) you will probably need to root and move to sd, or delete some stuff.
I personally don't like to use more than 3/4 of my available memory, for speed reasons.
Here is mine for comparison, although I deleted "Simpson's tapped out" which took up a lot of memory recently.

Here's what worked for me...
Go to google play store, download an app called link to sd...(should still download and install without giving u insufficient storage error)
Once installed and opened, go into settings and click on "install location". Be sure "internal" is checked.
See if this fixes your problem.
I believe somehow we changed our app install location to ext sd card and for some reason my phone is not letting me install or even move apps to my brand new 32gb sd card :/
Also, I see you are rooted. How many nandroids do you have on your internal? Those can suck up a lot of memory if you don't put them on your external.

I have exactly the same problem. I cannot install pretty much any App, and the updates do not work. I did what was suggested in previous post but it did not help at all. I did simple testing.
Removed an App then cleared all cache. I tried to resinstall it back and got Insufficient Memory Error. I the App was installed, why it does not want to install back.
This all happened when I rooted my phone with GalaxyNote2 Toolkit. Acutally when I rooted I was able to install Apps until I got to the point the momeory on internal SD was full. I started to remove Apps one by one to be able to install some Apps that I needed but rmoving apps did not help at all. I also tried everything possible to move Apps to SD card but I was not able to...
Any clues ?

Why does my phone give me these weird "insufficient storage" pop ups when I have free memory. I barely have any apps on my phone and I just went to update tb and it said that I have no room. Click to collapse First, what program is giving the error, and what segment of the memory is it trying to write to. If you are trying to write to the SD card and there is no room there, then you might have a problem with that. On the other hand, it may be another section. Additionally, you may have downloaded a program that wants to allocate a very large chunk of space for itself. More than you have. Some games download their data when you first load them. They often check for sufficient space first. They can use well over half a gigabyte, so if your SD Card doesn't have that space free, it will error out.
I know wht you're talking about but I don't recall titanium backup needing an extra couple hundred Mbs to work lol. Its happening with every freaking app I'm trying to download off the market or install off my sd card. And even the apps I'm trying to simply update off the market. And I have like 4gbs free on my sd card and 500 mb free on the phones storage. Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda app-developers app
There's been several ways of going about remedying this, there's the odin to stock method, the factory reset, and the clear market data method. I've personally only tried the latter 2, and they work temporarily in my experience. sent from my Swagged Up Epic 4G.

What hsppens is there are fragments of the old programs still In data that screw up the reinstall. Search with root explorer and nuke those bits. For instance if youtube app fails, search for youtube and a list of all files with that in the name will pop up. Nuke those files (don't forget to make r/w). Other option is odin and clean imstall. yeah I got that error too Is there a app that can automatically clean old left behind files like 1click cleanup. Hi all, I too had that problem before when I was on stock EC05 BML and had little space on internal memory. I could not upgrade Titanuim so I got so mad that I started getting into custom roms with MTD to have more space. Also helps if you get a class 10 32gb card. I saw that the July 15, Titanium try to download from market it failed because not enough space and I was tripping but I used the lucky and it cleaned the messed up left behind odex, then install was coolio. I also get sometimes could not parse error on .apk and never could figure it out. I guess they are not compatible with my phone since they were not downloaded from market... Lanboy =)

Titanium Backup is one of the most useful programs to come along for people who root and flash. It is well worht a few bucks ($6) to guarantee working updates, support the developer, freeze apps, batch work, and to save all your data. It pains me to see a program discussed here whose sole purpose is to cheat the developer out of a few bucks. Thread cleaned FNM

I think that this is sometimes caused by unnecessarily re-flashing the gapps when doing a dirty upgrade upgrade on cm or aokp. It also happened to me after advance-restoring data on aokp. Can't Find Memory
Ok this isn't your typical "my phone says it has 16GB" question... I am using Tasks AOKP ROM On the internal SD, my phone says that 6.06 GB has been used (on ES File Explorer and Storage) I run an SD card analyst on ES File Explorer and it can only account for 5.35 GB of data. Where is that extra 0.71 GB of data? Since yesterday, this has gone up from around 0.66 GB of data I couldn't locate... so that's an extra 50MB that was used I can't account for on top of the whole 0.71 GB I can't account for... Any ideas?
Have you installed any new apps? Heavy YouTube or internet access? Could be a variety of reasons. It is only 60mb. Personally I don't even use internal. If it's being used its used by apps or temporary nandroid backup. Everything I need is on the external micro sd card (titanium backup, nandroid, music, videos and such). Can't get phone to use SD card?
Okay so it seems that jelly been doesn't allow us to Intel apps to the SD card anymore.. Okay fair enough, stood move by Google but I doubt there's anything we can do about that. My question: how can I get my phone to save other data to my external SD? What I ultimately want is to be able to save downloads (ROMs), nandroid backups, and if possible, move extra files needed for games and cached music (I have 2gb of data from Google play music of cached music. Click to collapse If you are just clearing items from the internal SD and not from any system locations then you should be fine. Everything on internal SD is just extra storage for you and your apps. You may lose saves and settings if you were to just clear the whole thing. I would suggest going through and deleting the largest items or moving them to external SD. Use Disk Usage app to view the largest items and see what needs to be moved. Use GL to SD to move large games to the external SD but do note that you MUST launch them from GL to SD if you do this. GL to SD does require root. Also, I would advise deleting pictures and video if you use your camera a lot. Back them up first of course.
