[Q] Will a HTC Wildfire S a510e work in Canada? - HTC Wildfire S

I usually come this site for all my questions to be answered when it comes to android phones. This is my first post.
I bought a HTC Wildfire S a510e from eBay this week. It is unlocked for use on any GSM network. I realise this is the european model but I figured it would work accross the pond since it is unlocked.
When I put my SIM in the phone and proceeded to register on the VIRGIN(Canada) network i was prompted by a message saying that my SIM card would not allow me to connect to the VIRGIN network. I find this strange because obviously if I'm with Virgin Mobile I'm using a Virgin Mobile SIM card. Is this model not suppose to work with the VIRGIN Canada network? Is there a way I can modify the Radio Firmware so that it will work here?

It's actually a hardware thing....your carrier's operating frequency might be incompatible with the ones in the European version.....you can't make it work by changing the radio firmware.....it might just brick your phone

Help HTC TP2 SPRINT VERSION

Hello! Im thinking about purchasing a HTC TP2 Sprint version - UNLOCKED. The only problem is I live in Romania, and my question is that if the phone is SPRINT version, but unlocked, will I still be able to use all the radio tehnologies on my local carriers.
For example : Will I still be able to use mobile internet over EDGE/3G/HDSPA ? or since the phone is Sprint, it will connect only to Sprint EDGE/3G/HDSPA ?
The only 'flaw' I've found so far in unlocked phones, is that they can't be used on the carrier they've been unlocked from.
I plan to use the PHONE with a SIM CARD, since it's unlocked. Will I be able to use the 3G tehnology ? for internet and other hi-tech stuff ?
Also, will the FM radio work ?
Thanks in advance!

Just got an HTC desire from Telus canada, not recognizing Sim card

Hey I just received my HTC desire from Canada. I am trying to get it to work with At&t and it was supposed to be the Telus A8182 version. Right now it is not recognizing my sim card even though the device is supposedly unlocked. Because of this I cant access the APN settings to get it to work on AT&T network. I have noticed on the about phone settings that it says A8181 but the seller has told me that this could be due to the rom for the froyo update. I am new to these boards and android phone so any help would be appreciated. Thank You!!
Same Problem
I just got the Telus Desire as well and have the exact same problem. Here is what I have done so far and what i posted on another forum:
I just got an HTC Desire that was locked to Telus (Canadian Carrier). I have read that numerous people are using it on Rogers network. From the day I got it when I put my rogers sim card in (the right way) it said "No SIM card in phone" so I could not enter an unlock code. Thinking the SIM was defective went to Telus and tried one of their sim cards and it worked fine, then I went to Rogers thinking it was a problematic card. We tried 4 cards and none of them worked. I then went to Bell (another canadian carrier) and tried their sim card. It worked as well but said that the phone was locked. I purchased an unlock code from the internet which worked. Now the Bell sim card works as well becuase the phone is unlocked. I put my Rogers SIM back into it and it still sais "No SIM card in phone". I also tried a SIM from a european company and it did not work as well. This HTC Desire works on the same 3G 850/1900 GSM that Rogers uses.
I got my Telus Desire from Best Buy within the first week of release and unlocked it, works fine with my Fido SIM. Before unlocking it it did say "Network Locked".
Edit: Just checked with a deactivated Rogers SIM. Worked fine, notification bar said:

[Q] Verizon model - Sim Unlock Possible

I am interested in getting the Verizon model for how cheap it is. Is it possible to sim unlock the Verizon model to use on T-mobile?
I know someone is offering a boot unlocks and regular sim unlocks with GSM models. Not sure if it will work with the CDMA model.
Insights?
He said he can unlock Verizon locked Plays as well.
He just said on the 12th page post of his unlocking forum that the GSM baseband isnt supported.

Thank you
I think @netorino is right, baseband doesnt allow gsm networks."
I am just asking and double making sure cause I kept seeing people using the word "unlocked". And I know unlocked has multiple meanings. (boot, sim, ect)
I come from HD2 XDA.

Don't quote me...but I think you would be better off getting the AT&T play as its gsm as is T-mob, while Verizon is cdma.

Quick answer? NO, absolutely not.
Longer answer?
Basically the SIM Slot seems to be physically uncoupled from the chassis. Further, the chipset that would be running the GSM is replaced with one for the CDMA. Whether it can function as both is a question, but the chip is actually different (from my teardown to look, the chip numbering is different from the tech/repair manuals).
I would, in general, assume that no phone that is on Verizon (unless it specifically says "World phone" or "World Edition") can be used on T-Mobile. CDMA vs GSM silliness. Different frequencies, different methods, different technologies.
So while the bootloader unlcok could work for the CDMA model, the SIM-unlock wouldn't.
Interestingly enough, there are still traces of the GSM code in the phone's diagnostic menus though.
i have a friend that has a phone repair shop in my hometown. i called him when i found a play that is cdma thru verizon. it is a world phone and has a sim card slot. he said that as long as its a world phone version it can be unlocked for gsm use in the united states. idk im getting one tonight and im gonna tinker with it and once i get it all going i will let everyone know on here if it can in fact be unlocked for gsm use in the US.
Well???

well turns out that the phone ended up not having a sim card slot and the person that i was supposed to purchase it from had no clue about anything. i did not end up buying this device. sorry!!!!
This was stated years ago, the R800x has a sim card slot but it is turned off on a hardware level. It is a non-functioning sim slot.

[Q] Need Help to Unlock HTC One V (virgin mobile usa)

Hey guys, I just bought HTC One V Virgin Mobile USA non-contract cdma phone during the thanksgiving holiday and am wondering if I can in any way unlock it. I am also traveling to Malaysia during the Christmas holiday and it would be great if I can unlock it and use it with any carrier in Malaysia such as DiGi, Maxis, Celcom, and so forth. I don't mind rooting it either if there is a specific step I have to follow through. Please share your knowledge with me. Thank you so much.

Cdma has no sim slot, gsm does, so you can't make a gsm into cdma or vice versa. About the IMEI its in the options of your phone. If your phone has the sim slot it is gsm, else cdma and you can't do anything about that

cdma hasn't sim slot but have metal ends for this slot.... you can place slot or put on it sim card.... (of course if this is only difference)
Completely different radios, CDMA vs GSM.
cd
HTC one V (version CDMA) works in Europe and why I think that it is version with CDMA and GSM .... If you don't believe .... write *#*#4636#*#* you can change to do auto GSM ....
Sorry i am not clear on sim card slot on cdma phone (from virgin). what do you mean by metal ends? How can a cdma phone will have simcard slot?
Thanks,
cd
I think phone is the same with difference in software and hardware not installed sim slot ---> but motherboard is the same i think.... To work in Europe I must use GSM. Some people reports that it works. If it is only CDMA version for what is GSM option of radio ?

Metal ends - these are normal 6 metal ends to install sim slot (if you open phone you will see it.

[Q] Using MetroPCS on Verizon M9

Hi everyone, I really need help
I dropped by a Verizon store to ask about M9's Verizon network locked, he told me that all their M9 is factory unlocked, and can use with different carrier than Verizon
So I went home and purchased a new Verizon M9 on eBay
The problem is when I inserted my MetroPCS sim card, it popped up "Non Verizon Sim - unknow carrier" and didn't work. I have already called Verizon and they also said that it is factory unlocked so it should have work.
Can anyone help me on that?

From what I know, you cannot use another carrier on a Verizon phone ( you can root and try to flash some carriers but that is pretty technical if your not familiar with it). Verizon phones are locked. I dont think metropcs frequency is compatible with Verizon. Verizon uses CDMA, metropcs is gsm
Sorry

I've used a couple Verizon devices on T-Mobile without issue. Sometimes you need to adjust the Apn settings. With the situation you have with Metro Pcs. Maybe you need to get another sim card and try that out. GSM does work on Verizon Devices without flashing anything. Do some Google research, I know someone has tried it. And I recall Tmobile is running the metro network now, so it should work.

You are going to need to be s-off to fix this......
For metro you have to go to a store and have them add the imei to their system
Since it's a Verizon phone, you will get an unknown SIM message when using another domestic SIM in the phone. It will work if the bands match, but the issue you'll likely have to add the APN settings for Metro.

I'm using VZW M9 with TMO without issues, so MetroPCS should work as well. You will have annoying "unknown SIM" icon on top of the screen, but other than that everything works fine. What does not work in your case? Please keep in mind, that VZW and TMO networks are different, so you might not have a signal from TMO network. If the signal is fine and you can place/receive calls and SMS messages, but there is no data connection and MMS messages do not work - you will need to store MetroPCS APN settings manually:
