Hi everyone, I really need help
I dropped by a Verizon store to ask about M9's Verizon network locked, he told me that all their M9 is factory unlocked, and can use with different carrier than Verizon
So I went home and purchased a new Verizon M9 on eBay
The problem is when I inserted my MetroPCS sim card, it popped up "Non Verizon Sim - unknow carrier" and didn't work. I have already called Verizon and they also said that it is factory unlocked so it should have work.
Can anyone help me on that?

From what I know, you cannot use another carrier on a Verizon phone ( you can root and try to flash some carriers but that is pretty technical if your not familiar with it). Verizon phones are locked. I dont think metropcs frequency is compatible with Verizon. Verizon uses CDMA, metropcs is gsm
Sorry

I've used a couple Verizon devices on T-Mobile without issue. Sometimes you need to adjust the Apn settings. With the situation you have with Metro Pcs. Maybe you need to get another sim card and try that out. GSM does work on Verizon Devices without flashing anything. Do some Google research, I know someone has tried it. And I recall Tmobile is running the metro network now, so it should work.

You are going to need to be s-off to fix this......
For metro you have to go to a store and have them add the imei to their system
Since it's a Verizon phone, you will get an unknown SIM message when using another domestic SIM in the phone. It will work if the bands match, but the issue you'll likely have to add the APN settings for Metro.

I'm using VZW M9 with TMO without issues, so MetroPCS should work as well. You will have annoying "unknown SIM" icon on top of the screen, but other than that everything works fine. What does not work in your case? Please keep in mind, that VZW and TMO networks are different, so you might not have a signal from TMO network. If the signal is fine and you can place/receive calls and SMS messages, but there is no data connection and MMS messages do not work - you will need to store MetroPCS APN settings manually:

When I take the SIM from my AT&T One XL and try using it in an unlocked AT&T i747 (updated to stock, unrooted LH9) i'm thinking of buying it gets no data connection and only an occasional phone signal--and i'm in a good signal area.
Most of the time the i747 thinks there is no sim installed. For instance when I go into Settings->More Settings and try tapping on Mobile Networks the message 'Insert SIM card' is displayed.
I tried factory resetting the phone, no change.
I can swap my SIM into my wife's One XL and everything works fine... my wife's SIM works fine in my One XL. But neither my sim nor my wife's sim works in the i747.
I chatted with AT&T cust svc and they told me they have to register the IMEI of the new phone every time i want to swap SIMs which as far as I know is complete BS. Isn't the point of unlocked GSM phones easy SIM swapping?
I also tried shimming the SIM in the i747 with a sheet of paper in case it was loose. No change.
Any thoughts? Bad radio hardware? I'm there is something wrong with the i747 since two seemingly good SIMs won't work in it.
Might be a bad unlock aswell. Call att if your brave.

After many unsuccessful attempts i entered the secret code to check lock status (*#7465625#) and after it ran returned with:
'Connection problem or invalid MMI code'
But is that about lock status or that the running the code was in error?

I am on Rogers and can and always have been able to use my sim in any of my Rogers or unlocked devices. My wife on the other hand, is with Telus, and she cannot use her sim on any other device without registering the device first. There might be a self help online method if I recall. So it possible you have the same sort of deal is Telus?
Solved--exchanged phones at at&t service center, now have 4g on my s3 with same sim as i use with One X.
Hello,
So I currently have a Sprint LG G2 that I would like to unlock to be able to use it on AT&T or Tmobile. From what I'v read, even the Verizon G2 comes factory unlocked which Verizon's been known to keep locked in almost all of there phones. I called customer service and told them i would be traveling overseas (they didnt ask what country) and after about 24 hours emailed me asking permission to unlock the device, they told me to go and update me UICC Unlock which gave me a message saying "your SIM is now unlocked" but when I put in a Tmobile sim card to test it, the phone would not recognize it no matter if i changed the settings to gsm/umts or global mode. What do you suggest I do next, I am worried I payed so much for the phone and if 1 or 2 years from now I decide to move carriers or even country that I am visiting to next week and the phone bieng "unlocked" still wont unlock it to be used on local carriers or even abroad, that would really suck. Any suggestions?

You really need to do some serious research.
Concerning Verizon, Verizon is required to have the GSM portion of their CDMA/LTE phones factory unlocked due to to a requirement by the FCC when they divested some spectrum a while back.
Now for Sprint, Sprint locks down (or locks out) the GSM portion of their LTE phones for domestic GSM use, so trying to use it with a domestic GSM carrier like AT&T, T-Mobile etc is out of the question by default. They'll unlock it for international GSM use (non U.S GSM carriers). Now there are some fine folks on XDA here that have been able to work around these restrictions on the Galaxy S4, but that's the exception so far.
If like you say, they emailed you that they've unlocked your phone, if you leave the country and insert a foreign SIM, it'll work with that international carrier.
Your right
your absolutly right. Now i need to find out how they did it in s4 because it has to be possible for this phone too then that case

Hmmm, this is interesting, I am having a similar dilema, as far as I was aware, I thought that unlocking would be done on the cosumer end, they would give you a code, then you'd input that code in, I've just never heard of them unlocking it on their own. I got the LG G2 LS980 when I was in the US for a semester and moved to Brazil just a week ago, I haven't tried to fully make it work, but from the LS980 manual, it says that there is not even a sim lock on the phone(i'd put up a picture, but I have no idea how). And when I try to put in an old local(brazilian) SIM card, it doesn't ask for a unlock code, it just says no SIM card - Emergency calls only. I'm still researching it, but if you find anything, just post it here so I can keep up Thanks.

Yeah I will definitely have to wait for a workaround for the sprint LG G2 as I am not a sprint customer. I think the S4 and the HTC both have workarounds, but as far as I'm aware, these workarounds apply mostly for international use only (which is exactly what I need) meaning that ATT/TMOB is probably not going to work, or might have to wait a couple months until there is a lot more people working on the sprint version, the thing is, the phone wasn't released that long ago, so support in the forums is still low.
Back during the photon days they were able to achieve domestic gsm use by flashing the radio from the Japanese version of the photon. Well maybe not directly. It may have been a modified Japanese radio but it worked!! My daughters mother still uses the photon 4g as an att go phone. Would something like that still be possible for our devices? I know a lot of people lost interest in it because after the photon we got the photon q which had an embedded Sim. Even then people were able to take the phone apart and solder a Sim tray in and unlock it for other domestic carriers.

But I think first of all it needs to be unlocked for GSM or GSM part of the phone should be unlocked for any other thing to try.

As long as some foreign carrier has their g2 unlocked for international gsm use then it wouldn't matter right? With the KDDI radio on the photon we weren't able to use sprint service on it after flashing. Basically as if the phone thought it was the Japanese version of the photon.

This would be awesome if it worked, I'm still hopeful someone will find a way, because I don't use sprint anymore and I have since moved to brazil. Thank god this phone is awesome enough to not be useless with only wifi, but I'm still hopeful someone will find a way for me to catch Brazil's GSM signal, as the phone does have the right GSM bands for it.
Just like the HTC one, it took months for even Sprint themselves to figure out how they would unlock the HTC, what I want to know if there is anyone that has actually called Sprint and asked for the unlock, and confirmed it to be working.
Can the sprint lg g2 be unlocked for any carrier.
Im trying to change from sprint contract to straighttalk. Is there a way to get my LG G2 unlocked so I can switch?

I unlocked my GS2 Skyrocket recently as I'm about to sell it and pick up a G2 next week. I popped in a T-Mobile SIM and verified that it worked. However, I very seriously doubt the method I used would work on the G2. Here's the thread though:
unlock free proceed at your own risk!
Domestic sims are too small

I called the Sprint international department and they explained the situation somewhat.
Domestic sim cards such as on tmobile and att have too little memory to support the cdma function of the lg g2, so you will get an "invalid sim" message. The size of the sim must be at least 128k to work on the g2. Maybe there is a way to get domestic network data on a larger sim card.
Hope this helps.

while the size thing may be true.. this is not why youre getting an invalid sim error. the invalid sim error comes from when u use ANY sim thats not Sprint. After you get Sprint to OTA SIM unlock your phone.. this invalid sim error goes away... gsm will work for intl.. and possibly domestic.. tho sprint may also have a block on domestic only.. after the intl unlock. if the phone is unlocked thru sprint and you pop a tmo sim in and get no signal(but no invalid sim error)... then that means the phone is unlocked properly but domestic is blocked.
this is usually my area of interest.. i did both the htc one and gs4 unlocks but I do not own a g2 unfortunately.

So are you saying if you did have a Sprint G2 you would be able to find a way to unlock it?
How the heck do they do this?
How can they unlock the phone for international SIMs and prevent them from working on local SIMs? Can't be some band that they check. Otherwise, it would not work on an international SIM using that band. Hardcode something in the kernel or the OS? In which would a custom ROM and/or kernel work? Can anyone point me to some links or posts that discuss this?

I'm also interested in this as I have a LS980 and I am currently in Brazil, sprint has done nothing yet as far as unlocking it.(even for actualy customers, I have not seen anyone that actually has this thing unlocked). I popped in a Claro(local provider) SIM card, and the phone says "No SIM card- Emergency calls only", I've tried multiple SIMs to see if it was a problem with the actual SIM, but all of them read the same thing, while inside the phone I get a notification saying "Restricted Access Changed - Voice Service is Blocked". So it knows there is a SIM card in there, it's just blocking it.

Verizon is still using CDMA for voice, so I believe you will not be able to get voice service. Not sure if data would work, and I'd be curious to hear whether it does or not. I'm not exactly sure how Verizon and Sprint SIMs work, since they are not a true GSM SIM.
That isn't really an answer, I realize. Really, more just a couple random thoughts on the matter.

wont work because verizon uses different radio frequencies. you cannot take ANY GSM phone and use it verizons network because its doesnt have verizons radio bands to work on their network....

Its more complicated than that:
- Yes, since Verizon uses CDMA for voice and EDGE data, you won't get those on a "GSM" M8 since it lacks the CDMA hardware.
- However, Verizon uses LTE for "4G" data in many areas, and in fact the same frequency bands as AT&T in some regions. They share 2 LTE bands (2 and 4) while Verizon also uses Band 13; and AT&T uses 17 (and I think 5) and those are not common between the 2 carriers.
It was an interesting exercise for the OP to try his Verizon SIM in the AT&T phone. I'm guessing there is a difference between a CDMA SIM and a GSM SIM or some other network restrictions that would prevent the AT&T variant M8 for getting any data service.

Thanks for the clarification. Then its as I somewhat suspected, and there is either some difference in the CDMA SIM or Verizon's network that is preventing the device from getting service.
Thanks posting the result of your "experiment".
HI
Why cant I use an international sim in my Note 4. I have tried 5 different sims. Its like the phone isn't even trying to search for networks when I put them in.
If I'm not in the USA I cant activate the Phone can I?? I Think this maybe the problem. Its like the phone locks out the Gsm bands until its activated on the Verizon network. Ive tried a dummy Verizon sim but no dice.
Thanks
In advance
You have to call verizon before you travel to different country to unlock the phone. They will do it. I did the same. I traveled to India and used different sim and it worked. But you need to use apn settings from that carrier to make data work on note 4.

Hi even i have the same problem .Verizon should not lock as per their policy but they are doing so.Someone should put a case on them and sue them
The problem is when I was in the States I activated it on the Verizon Network, when I got home to Ireland phone worked fine with International sim.
Last week I did a Factory reset and its asking me to Activate on the Verizon network again and no sim is working, so I'm screwed I cant activate on the Verizon Network.
The thing I find funny is If you look at vn_mobiles root videos he is able to stick in his Vietnamese sim card after a Factory reset and have it work without having to Activate again on the Verizon Network. So am I missing something here?
I hope he can tell me if there is a work around for Activation because it seems to work for him.

vn_mobiles is a scammer.Any solutions? You gave verizon customer care email id? I am sure they will unlock GSM if we give our imei number since locking LTE phones is against their policy.
Unfortunatly I think the problem is it can't be unlocked unless registered on the Verizon network first with an active Verizon Sim (Which it was before factory reset). As Im not in the states any more I can't connect to the network so I can't activate, so its not really unlocked.
My phone never been activated on verizon and have formated the phone many times and gsm works fine with no issue except the lack of band 3 support....
Are good with DFS tool? If so pm me to test a few things that might get your phone working...
Got it sorted thanks guys.
Really strange one. I tried another Verizon sim. Tried activating and of course it wouldn't let me as I'm in Ireland. But as soon as I start sticking my local Sims in they just start working. Going to guard this little Verizon Sim with my life. Lol
They are unlocked but they might be needed to have vzw sim for few seconds. I was in Poland for 2 months and used my now retired note4. Was getting edge,3g,h+

I have a vzw line. Popped in vzw sim. Then popped in my tmo sim. Data and calls work. Speed was faster on tmo sim though.

mine works well but i cant get video or any of the tmobile **** like that to work
I just picked up a Verizon S8+ (i had a T-Mobile one but just returned it) and i popped a T-Mobile SIM Card in it and i got a message saying "This is not a Verizon Wireless SIM Card" and it wouldn't let me use it. I thought it was supposed to be unlocked??
It is unlocked. After swapping Sims the only change you got to make is change preffered network mode from LTE/CDMA to LTE/GSM oh and go to APN and choose your new sim card apn. And thats it. Ive tried all carriers on my Verizon S8+ with no problems

What probably will not work on any carrier phone other than TMobile will be WiFi calling when using TM SIM.
Hey! I need to know if I buy a s8+ in Verizon, I will can use in Chile with my local carrier? I can read that you don't have problems changing the carrier in USA, will be the same if I use the phone with a Chilean Sim? Thanks!
I have a Verizon S8+ on AT&T unlimited service and it works perfectly. So you'll be good for Tmo as well. I have no clue about Sprint tho.
I have a Verizon S8+ on att and it works great. Does anyone know if I get HD Voice with this combination ?
Verizon unlocked S8 plus on T-Mobile working flawlessly for me
Verizon unlocked and works very well in France on the Orange network.
When I got my VZW S8+ I popped in my tmo sim first thing. It worked flawlessly out of the box. I didnt even have to add any APN settings as all of the tmo settings were built in. Awesome job sammy!
What about video call ect I'm having issues getting that **** to work is u pres *#77467# it says false on all the **** why won't the ims register that controls all that
I have an issue with s8+ using AT&T sim. The issue is that the phone shows a plus sign in front of my all incoming calls treating them as international calls. Does anyone know the solution?
The phones are completely unlocked, what you need to do is look up the VPN settings that T-mobile, or at&t use for their phones and set them accordingly. Though some functions might not work with non-Verizon carriers through changing these functions. (messages, video calling, etc..)
Thank you all. I bought the s8+ from Verizon out right because I wasnt sure if I was going to stick with them. And it looks like I am moving to t-Mobile this month, I was going to look into flashing the firmware, but I was worried since I used Samsung pay like crazy. So I am fine with just disabling the verizon apps and going from there.
Anyone know if the phone will still get updates if I swap in a T-Mobile SIM, or a Verizon-compatible one from Straight Talk while still on the VZW firmware?

It will if you use the VZW software update assistant. I've done 2 updates this way on my Verizon S8+ with my tmo sim in there. Works fine.

Sounds good. Do you know of the Verizon phone has all the bands of the T-Mobile version?
Fully work - no. Things like HD calling and wifi calling wont work without t-mobile software.
