S3 gloves for winter running? - Galaxy S III Accessories

What are some good ways or gloves to use while going out for frigid temperature runs for my galaxy s3 while listening to music on it?

search for gloves with conductive threads in it. there are plenty of those in the market. I've seen them in places like target and walmart and sometimes even best buy.
Also, check the finger that has the thread.. some of them cheap out by using a metal nub at the tip of the finger and it's annoying as all hell to use. Get the ones that are actual threads in the finger.

Ya Walmart sells some that r supposed to work no clue as it doesnt get cold enough where I live to use em

I can confirm these work. I'm using mine as driving gloves & not only do they help with gripping the steering wheel when its minus 5 but I never have to take them off to txt or answer my fone at work
Expensive?, yes
Worth it? 100% yes
Should you buy them?
Definitely!

if you already have a favorite pair of gloves you could try anyglove.com
liquid you put on finger tips that makes the gloves with your screen
you can email them to see if your gloves are compatible

I have these and they are too cold AND it's hard to press buttons. Probably the one thing I've ever paid for at under armour and didn't feel like I got value out of it

Tnx for the tip, i was looking for something like that.
They look cool too

Agloves ...
I literally tried every single glove above as well as the solution but nothing comes close to aglove.
Unlike most other gloves where you need to use it with your index thumb where the touch sensor thing is.
The Aglove has it all over the glove and the responsive and accuracy is almost like wearing no gloves.
I highly highly and sincerly recomment agloves.
I been doing alot of winter cycling and soccer and it works extremely well if I dont want my digits to freeze off.

I have a pair of glider gloves and I absolutely love them,I would highly recommend them to anyone...still can't believe how well they work.

Clarify "frigid". Are we talking about 32f or -32f?

you tried the anyglove solution? not so good eh? maybe i wont get it after all. i thought adding the liquid to my current gloves would be perfect. seems like all the gloves out on the market fail to keep your hands warm in serious cold weather. should be top priority for touch gloves. some might be good if youre active, but no one is active 100% of the time.

Well I am from NY and sometimes a few weeks ago the temps would be as low as mid teens.
Not to say they will keep you warm like a pair of oven mittens, but they provide you with alot of warmth and comfort.
And especially when running and blood flowing, you will not notice that you are cold. What would affect you more would be in my case needing to adjust endomondo sports app on my phone without proper touch screen gloves and realise I cant get it right. Then would have to take my gloves off to use my phone.
Bottom line is this ...
Liquid on the gloves wont be as accurate.
Other gloves compared to agloves arent as accurate. But some maybe slightly warmer.
Agloves extremely responsive, but wont provide warmth as a thick pair of winter gloves.
But if me, an islander who hates the cold could use the agloves in teens I think you should be alright.
Besides they are dirt cheap, try them ... you cant go wrong.

[Q] Decent Armband?

Does anybody know of a decent armband for this phone? I had something that worked well for my Tilt2, but I don't think it will fit quite right for the Captivate...
Subbed for this
This looks pretty decent plus it has an extra pocket for keys, cards, condoms...you know, the necessities. http://www.thepocketsolution.com/Me...4&Category_Code=samsung_captivate_accessories
It seems like it might obstruct the headphone jack. It also seems like it barely fits as far as the height goes. Any other thoughts? (thanks for the link though!)
This one has access to the screen and headphone jack. Although there is nothing over the top to secure the phone.
And no I don't have it.

Ahhh,,,,, too late, I didn't see your post in time. It already shipped. This is the AB82 tune belt. Is that the model you had?
Anybody find any other options for these? I'm looking too.
I got the TuneBelt AB82 and you were right. It was to small. I called tunebelt and they happily replaced it for their new AB83. They say its the right size but I haven received it yet. I will report back when it arrives.
I got the AB83 and it fits well. The pouch is deeper than the phone which works well for me because i have my phone in a rubber case. I can push the buttons in the front easily but you have to feel around for the side buttons. The headphone jack isn't in the right spot so I cant put the phone in top down. I guess it will be just fine until something perfect comes out.
thanks for checking back in
anyone found anything better yet? It really kills me that it is hard to for runs with this thing
So this tune belt is working out really well. The top has a slit where you slide the phone in and I have the audio jack running to it there. The plastic window stays lifted from the phone a bit so taps and swipes register perfectly. I got use to the buttons on the sides and can hit them perfectly as well. I think even if something came out that was made specifically for the captivate I wouldn't buy it myself because the tune belt is just about perfect.
really is a good case, I got it after reading this topic a couple weeks ago. Phone fits in very well, even fits in with the Amzer case on it (its a bit more snug obviously). The holes not lining up isn't a big issue, I put it in the other way (with the headphone jack up at the entry point).
As for performance, I did 60 miles on my bike the day it came in. (I was really happy it came in!.. 10 mins before we left) For the most part I forgot it was even there, phone stayed dry from sweat and a brief rain shower. Screen was usable as there was nothing in front of it, and once I dialed in on where the side buttons were inside the case it was smooth sailing there too. Was a good investment.
I just ordered the AB83 after reading this thread. Thanks guys!
Yeah that AB83 looks good, plus they show a Fascinate in it in one of the pics on Amazon. I've been having to hold my phone while I run lol it's scary always hoping the sweat doesn't make me drop it.

don't know if anyone is willing to try this out.

I posted in the Vibrant and i9000 forums, but I got the larger version of the Tune Belt. It fits with my phone still inside it's TPU case which is what I was looking for. I think the smaller version would be too tight if you want to keep it in your case.
If you have above average sized biceps, you will need the extension as the band is one of the shorter ones I've seen, but luckily the extension is very cheap and works well.
Here are some pics.

Damn, too bad none of these accommodate a 18" arm I would much rather have my phone on the arm at the gym instead of in my pocket. Sometimes when bench pressing dumbbells I have to rest the weights on my quadriceps for a short time, but if I do that with the phone in my shorts pockets, then i run the risk of laying 70-90lbs on it

Gloves that work with capacity touch screen.

There are in general two types of gloves that work with capacity touch screen. The first type is those that have openings in the finger tips... and the second type is those with some special lining in the finger tips that make it work.
The North Face has a few pairs of gloves with what they called "E Tip" technology that works with capacity touch screen. I bought this pair last year and they work pretty well with touch screen

But living in Chicago, this pair isn't warm enough. I notice that they also have a much thicker pair of gloves with e-tip:
http://www.thenorthface.com/catalog...-facet-glove.html?from=subCat&variationId=06D
I'm thinking about buying this pair, but would like to hear other opinions to see if there is other alternative to North Face. Any suggestion? I want something that is super warm, wind/water resistant, and can stand up to snowy weather in Chicago. Do you know if any other winter gear manufacturers make something similar?
Have you considered modifying existing gloves? Amazon has a 12x13" swatch of conductive fabric (ASIN B004G4ZLRI) which can convert your existing gloves. At $20 it's much cheaper, and other even cheaper alternatives may be out there as well, but it does mean using some sewing skills.

I need a new pair of heavy duty gloves anyway, lost mine on the train a while ago. And my sewing skill is rather bad, would probably end up with a pair of frankensteined gloves if I did that.

Yes, that almost makes it worth getting married
Thanks for the links to the North Face gloves, I've only seen the knitted ones prior to this. I've got a pair similar to the heavier ones sans the conductive fingertip and they do work well in MA for shoveling duties. However based on my experience with stylus accuracy and seeing how big the pads are I would imagine you'd only have a very gross amount of control with them. Still, if it's enough to fumble around with the Pandora widget via WidgetLocker that may be enough.
A quick search did turn up an alternative in GloveTips which look promising in that they don't seem to need sewing skills but, more importantly, seem like they'd provide finer control.
Either way, please update this thread with whatever you decide. Winter is here and I may have to steal whatever solution you end up with if you like it.

Thanks. I've taken a look at GloveTips on their website. While a small dot of conductive material may increase accuracy, it may not be as convenient as the North Face one. I have the first pair of e-tip gloves that I posted above. The conductive materials on the finger tips have a rather large surface, making gestures like pinch to zoom pretty easy to perform. I don't think I will do a lot of texting with the gloves on, so I think the thicker North Face one would be good enough for me to do simple stuff like on screen music control, answering phone, checking email etc.
At sears they the Isotoner SmarTouch glove that works grat and prabably less expensive than the NothFace ones.

I mainly want to be able to answer call and press big on screen buttons (like music control, or unlocking lock screen pattern) without having to take the gloves off when I'm outdoor. It's obvious that you won't be able to text a lot with them. I used to have a pair of North Face Montana gloves that is of similar thickness and materials so I have a pretty good idea of how flexible these gloves are.
Used the E-Tips for a couple of years now. Very comfy. Not great for cold weather though as there isn't much protection but that makes them slim and only minimal mistakes when typing etc if you need to.
Oh well, went to a local North Face store this weekend to check out the gloves.
I can forget about the $75 "etip facet gloves". It actually comes in two pair of gloves. A pair of thin, etip gloves like the first one that I posted, and a regular heavy duty non-etip gloves. So you are supposed to wear both pairs, and then take of the outer pair when you need to use your phone... I guess that's good for people who has zero pair of gloves, in that case you have a pair of light, and a pair of heavy gloves...
But in my case, since I already have a pair of light etip gloves, it's no difference than buying any other pair of heavy gloves wearing on top of it.
I just found out today my pair of regular leather gloves works ok.
It's not accurate enough to do pattern lock. But I was able to use maps and dial out. I was pretty impressed.

dont judge a book by its cover! im in new york city and i can tell you these gloves do a very good job of keeping my hands warm. i bought these during a promotion the today show was having (5 dollars ftw) and these are beyond a doubt the best gloves i own with e-tips. they do the important thing of keeping my fingers warm while having those etips on the phone. also they dont look extremely sci-fi geeky.
for a point of reference, you showed those skinny north face gloves (i bought those too) and i can tell you the isotoners are 10x better at protecting your hands from the cold.
these gloves are nice because they have a grippy (yet subtle) texture on the palm side of the glove so your phone wont slip, and the outer side of the glove has this mesh & fabric combo. enough to let your hands "breathe" but not enough to let cold in
tldr its a good buy and will hold up in the weather

Bicycle mount?

As the title says. Anybody found any mounts or something of that sort? I'd like to film my trips/ soccer games so having it on the bike would help i guess.
I own a bicycle shop and personally use the minoura ih100 phone grip. I use it w an HTC evo 4g w a thin cover. Works great. I ride on and off road - aggressively. I have seen many and all have been inadequate in materials and holding the phone confidently. Hope this helps

I actually just bought this case today. I'm going to use my recently retired HD2 to track my stats via Endomondo pro and for music. Going to tether it to my t989 that i keep in my backpack during rides.
I picked this one because of the rubber straps that help secure the phone down.It should be arriving in the next few days, so i'll let you know how it works.
I ride about 150 miles a week..
I've been through the grind with all sorts of "bike mounts and programs"
after a year of owning an android phone and many applications..
There is only 1 answer IMO..
Hands down the best freaking program out.. Sports tracker live
By far the best program in every possible way.. I want go into the details of what it does but lets say it gives the 600.00 garmin device a run for its money.. Every and more.. Except no cadence
Now.. as for a mount..
My bike is sleek looking, and i plan to keep it that way.. As for the first recommendation, he says it works but I would never feel comfortable with something that is "universal"
Something that ratchet'es in with plastic clicking locks..
The solution...
A two piece case that is DESIGNED for your PHONE.. I personally always use Otterbox and would mount the plastic to a handlebar mount and the rubber that wraps around the phone will securely lock INTO the plastic case..
As for water proof, if it rains all I do is wrap a plastic bag around the phone and then lock it into the plastic case.
This was with my EVO and it worked flawlessly and looked great!

Yep... Depends on the what you mount the case to.
I used an old universal light mount that does twist and it works fine..
But, lol, I don't use it to watch 16:9 movies.. heheheh

No really though, I use it to see my stats 99% of the time..

If you want a case that completely covers the front, I'm not sure what cases for this phone are like that..
That being said
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Waterproof-...26?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item20bd1ccc62
That one sucks!
They give you these rubber back pieces to push the phone towards the front..
It still wobbles around and almost impossible to hit the power button/volume buttons
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects...hone-mounting-system-reloaded?ref=ending_soon
That iSLIC mounting system looks very interesting, but I'd be concerned about its ability to hold onto the phone if it took a sudden, jarring impact during a bike ride. Hit a bump in the road and the spring lets go even just a little bit... it's going airborne.
They got enough funding for their production run, so hopefully there will be some reviews and such coming soon.

i was using a home made one with velcro and plastic (pictures here http://www.bikeforums.net/showthrea...o-thier-bike?p=9128373&viewfull=1#post9128373), but i doubt it'll work with the new capacitive displays, back then the old phones were LCD touch pressure so it would work regardless of the layer in between

the 1meter limit kills it. lifeproof will be 2 meters.
I want a case even if larger designed to be opened often with NO PORTS so it can go deeper. I would like 30ft. thats deep enough you can dive down a little snorkeling and if you drop it in shallows its not likely to go deep enough to crush.
It is actually a 2.3 meter submerge for 30 minutes but contstant 1 meter down.
ahh thats not so bad then. not like typical user will stay under that long anyway

Unfortunately, it doesn't float....I let my daughter play with it in the tub, sank to the bottom.
So I finally got my review finished and thought I'd share my opinions on it.
No doubt this is a beast of a case but its not perfect by any means. I've dropped it twice from about 4 feet in height with no visible damage as well as done a few underwater trials one of which was letting my one and half year old daughter play with it while she took a bath. Held up like a champ and build quality is top notch. The case is bulky but not unusable by any means, takes a few seconds getting used to it and after that you're home free. It pockets very nicely in my jeans but I can see it being a problem for people with skinny jeans.
The screen sensitivity goes down with the screen guard and tends to jerk every once in a while so I had to disable pattern unlock and stop using the swype-like feature in the keyboard I use but I'm still able to scroll through webpages and pinch to zoom in pictures pretty well. Call quality seemed great on the receiving end but on my end it was a bit muffled. Same thing happened when listening to music but something that helped was making sure the speaker volume wasn't at full 100%. It can't be completely avoided considering the sound has to travel through a water tight chamber so in my eyes its a decent trade off.
The latch that exposes the power port stopper could be a little less hard to open imo and I definitely put my nails through a bit of pain and bruising after opening it time and time again. Hard buttons worked flawlessly but the capacitive buttons took some getting used to with the lip at the bottom of the case. Overall I would recommend you add it to your arsenal and even if its not your daily driver its good to have for those family outings or outdoor adventures.

Mine was delivered yesterday. I like the case a lot however, as noted, there is room for improvement.
My biggest complaint is that the main body of the case slides easily on hard surfaces since it's is made of hard plastic. It doesn't grip to the surface if placed face up and can easily slide off an end table or night stand if bumped. The face section of the case is lightly rubberized so the phone won't slide as easily if placed face down.
My Seidio Extended case for my Thunderbolt had a rubber exterior with a skeletonized hard plastic cover. Enough of the rubber exterior was exposed to provide some slip resistance. IMO, the Obex could benefit from some exposed rubber areas on the back portion of the case to provide some anti-slip properties.
The positive aspect of the hard cover is that it does slip into my pants pocket easily.

No floating at all

Agreed o how slippery it is..If the material was a little more rugged or maybe have some indentations it would be different.
Also, I dont understand a little why is it that big. Between the phone and the case there is room. They could ve made it maybe smaller and keep the phone tighter but on the other hand we are already working with a large device
How does the mic and speakers portion work? Do you have to uncover flaps or something?
Some additional observations.....
The protective screen cover really affects the sensitivity of the touch screen. Using the phone is starting to frustrate me.
The screen 'jumps' a lot and registers touches when I don't intend to touch. Additionally, getting the back button to register is hit and miss.
I guess for $80 I'm stuck with dealing with this, however, the water & drop protection are more important to me, at least for now with winter weather approaching.
Consider if the reduced screen sensitivity is worth it to you before you spend the $$$ on this case.

nope. those are protector by a membrane. So sound goes out but nothing goes in.
the ports u need to open are charging and head phones
And a little more to add....
I just got a phone call from Seidio! The rep was gathering feedback on the Obex case. I relayed the observations I made in my previous two posts and he said that he would pass it on to his product development team.
I've never experienced this from a company before! I would suspect that other early adopters will get a call for product feedback as well.
It's nice to see a company reach out to its customers.

Yeah there's no doubt Seidio customer service is top notch. Glad you got a chance to convey the concerns, who knows maybe some adjustments will be made and they'll send you a replacement. At the very least similar products will improve moving forward

Black scratches very easily

I've only had this watch for a couple days and I already have a couple nicks on the watch itself. Not the screen but the watch. Ridiculous. I'm very careful with electronics. I don't get this. Kinda disappointing and makes me want to return it. How's everyone else's all black holding up?

Mine's fine, had it for over 2 months now. Maybe you don't take care of it as well as you think you do

Not a chance. My Sony sw3 is in perfect conditions. Have had it over a year today. I've had the Huawei watch 2 days and haven't done anything with it. Pretty sad. Awesome watch otherwise.

Don't now what to tell you then, my watch is fine...2 choices I suppose:
1. Return the watch if you aren't happy with it.
2. Keep it and deal with it.

That's the problem with black. If you bought silver, you could remove/buff off the scratches. using cape cod on the mirror parts or a brillo pad on the brushed metal parts.
But I admit, black is more cool!

Where are the scratches? How many do you have?
I've had mine since day one and I'm definitely not treating it with kid gloves and I don't see any scratches or blemishes. I know I've bumped it a few times...
Perhaps you have a defective unit?
I've had mine 3 months. I try to be careful and conscious of doing things with it on. I'll take it off if I'm working in tight quarters around metal or sharp objects. But I've still hit it against something on several occasions. A couple of times it was hard enough to scare me. But I have no marks anywhere on the watch.

just like @crawrj mine hasn't been scratch.. but the bracelet is scratched like hell you can see it too but you have to take my watch away from me to see it other than that the watch itself is still scratch-less
I have 1 bezel scratch...gonna try black enamel paint to patch it.
No worries OP. You're watch isn't defective. It's just the nature of the beast. My black Huawei has a couple of nicks in it and the band itself has wear marks but it looks way cooler than the ss IMO. A little black paint in the nicks and they disappear anyway.

Just found out that there is a full body skin protector that will protect the watch - http://amzn.to/1UJjJ3K

Please be aware that the skin above doesn't protect the bezel. I used some black enamel gloss model paint on a scratch I had just above the power/hardware button - it's done a great job and you wouldn't see the scratch without looking for it.

Just so you know, Huawei used DLC coating over the stainless steel body, which is what high end watch makers use. This isn't cheap black powder coating or paint like you find on the LG G watch R. So, if you have scratched it hard enough to see the silver underneath, then you have hit the watch pretty hard.
I have had my Huawei since before release day and I don't treat it any different than I would a Casio. It has scratches, took a big hit to the bezel and so on. It has signs of wear and I don't mind that. It is a watch for Christ's sake!
