[Q] Files not visible on external microSDXC card - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

I apologize in advance if this has already been answered and I haven't found it in the forums yet (and the "search" function is temporarily unavailable). I'm crunched for time before I jump on a plane. I figured I'd ask while I continue to search the forums...
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (US - Sprint) and received a Kingston 64GB microSDXC class 10 card yesterday. I was previously using an old 8GB class 6 miscroSDHC card with no problems. I removed that card form the phone, inserted the new card and formatted it (exFAT). The phone had no trouble seeing 59ishGB of the new card.
I removed the new card from my phone and inserted it into my laptop. The phone had created a folder called "LOST.DIR" but other than that the card was empty. I created a folder called "Music" and proceeded to move just under 8GB of music folders/files to it overnight.
This morning I removed the card from my laptop and inserted it into my phone. I opened the "My Files" app and when I opened the "extSdCard" folder there was nothing there. I removed the card and reinserted it in my laptop and the "lost" and "music" files were both available. I removed the card once again and reinserted into my phone and after about 15 seconds or so the phone rebooted. Once the phone powered on it rebooted again. Once it powered on again it rebooted once more and this time it powered into safe mode. Once in safe mode, I checked for the card and low and behold I could see both folders and I was able to play mp3 files from the music folder.
The phone shows 51.06GB of 59.01GB free on the external card, whether in safe or regular mode. Every time I removed the card from the phone or laptop, I unmounted it first. Any thoughts as to what is going on? I've read that Android sometimes doesn't play well with Windows folders, but I've never had a trouble with this on any other Android handset.
Thanks in advance!

Try formatting it as FAT32(lba) and see how the card behaves. There are some clear disadvantages to doing this, but it will be an interesting test.
What OS is running on the Note? Is it rooted and/or running a custom rom?
I vaguely recall a post a while back specific to Samsung devices and Kingston cards...Ill look for it.

Thanks for the reply! Right before you posted this I think I actually figured it out thanks to an old post from omar300. I tried their method and everything seems to be working now. And you guessed right...the card is now formatted FAT32.
I'm running stock 4.1.2. I'll be rooting it shortly so hopefully things don't break again!

If you have been having issue with exfat card even after formatting it to fat32 this is probably the solution for you
The 64gb exfat card i have never worked on custom roms no matter what software i used to format it to fat32.
But finally it worked with this one software, Just make sure you follow the instruction correctly.
(external link blocked because I'm new)
First use easeus to delete the partion in 64 gb card.
then Click Start menu, select Run and enter diskmgmt.msc
You need to find the disk with unallocated space. Right click on it and select "New Partition" and follow these steps, clicking "Next"
Enter the maximum size for the Partition Size
Choose assign a drive letter. I used F:
Select "Do not Format this partition"
Click Finish
Now you have a drive letter, this is what we will pass to the formatter
(external link blocked because I'm new)
Now download a copy of fat32format. Extract the EXE file to C:\
Click Start->Run and enter cmd (as admin)
type this - C:\fat32format f:
enter y to continue
Now the sd card should work on phone.

Unavailable SD Card issue after (any) Rom Upgrade...Please help!

This is my first post, and I'm usually pretty careful about following instructions. I'm currently running Skyraider's 3.0 RC2, but to my dismay, I am finding that my phone still refuses to recognize my SD Card. Under settings it says it is unavailable, and when connected to PC, it gives an option to mount to disk but doesn't mount upon selecting this.
My phone is rooted with S-Off and 2.15 radio...Did a full wipe of everything before I flashed 3.0 RC2. Shows that my kernel is now King #2, but I have had this issue with many other roms and kernel combinations. I have been unsuccessful in finding a solution when searching the forums, and the only way to regain functionality is to restore a previous backup without any roms installed.
Any help is much appreciate. Thanks!!!
P.S. I've also tried mounting the card in clockworkmod's advanced recovery settings, but this does not change a thing. Internal storage is also currently unavailable. Mount through usb in recovery does work, but this doesn't help when I cannot access my sd card after boot.
I had a similar issue a couple days ago after upgrading from stock 2.1 to SkyRaider 2.5.2.
When I'd go to set my ringtones, the option for the SD card wasn't there. As if it wasn't reading it was in the phone at all. I opened up Astro file manager to see if it could read it and it in fact did. I could see that all the ringtones were still on the card right where they should be and they would play from Astro when I clicked on them. But, the option to actually set them still wasn't there.
I'm not exactly sure what 'fixed' it, but I went in to set my notification tone and suddenly the option to select from the SD card was there. Then, I could then access the card to set ringers as well. I'm sorry I don't have anything more specific. The card just seemed to suddenly decide to let the OS know it was there. I also rebooted the phone a couple times as well as removing the card while the phone was in use and reinserting it. Not sure if any of that helped the situation or not.
I had asked about this in two separate threads and not one person responded, so I'm guessing the issue is rare.
If you don't get anywhere with it, maybe try a different SD card just to see if it shows up.
Good luck.
I've had the same issue but was able to resolve it. Mount the sd card from a laptop or PC. If you can read the card copy the contents onto the PC (I placed mine in a separate folder). Then go into tools and do an error checking. After replacing the SD card back in the phone see if everything is ok. this fixed my SD card. However, I've had the SD card lose its primary disk notation so I had to reformat and then transfer the previous save files on the SD card from my backup an that solved my other issue. Also, some times the SD card speed can cause this issue and it is perfered that you a class 4 or better. I hope this helps.
Well, I took your advice and pulled the sd card only to mount it separately and scan it for errors. None were found. I've also reformatted and restored all the files that were on it. Phone still does not recognize card or internal storage. My phone did, however, recognize another card I had on hand and I believe it may be a compatibility issue between my 8 Gb A-Data brand Micro SD card and 2.2 roms. FYI...It's a class 6, and the one I tried that was recognized was a 6gb sandisk (class 4). I'll look into getting a 16 or 32 gig sandisk in the near future and keep you posted. Thank you guys for your insight.
always 'safely remove hardware' (stop the device, etc.) from your windows machine before unplugging your incredible
if you don't, you end up not being able to see the SD card until you restart your phone
Just reformatted my SD card, checked for errors after unmounting etc... and now it seems to work ok, although one of the music players I normally use doesn't seem to recognise it!!

[Q] "SD Card mounted as read-only"?

Hi,
I'm posting this issue second time. I have a class 2 SD card with almost 1700mb of ext3 partition. the problem is that my SD turns to read only when accessing some files from my sd card. it says in the notification SD card mounted as a read only and then say "tap" to resolve the card responded unexpectedly.
tapping on it sometimes help if i remove the files that I was trying to access that created the problem. otherwise it mounts it as read only.
Hi, you sure your card is a genuine one? The problems you are having are identical to what I had. Turns out my 32gb card was in fact an 8gb card, and the problem was when capacity was reached it would go to read only. The only way to rectify this was to take the card out, place it in my PC card reader right click on properties of the drive and run the error checking tool. Hope this helps. Got my money back anyway thought £36 was a bit cheap lol! Try writing a large file to the card using your Computer, this should give you an indication if the card is genuine or not.

Card is genuine. I have placed my card several times in my brothers htc hd and formatted it through windows. its almost 8 gb i checked it on windows. last time I deleted a folder which has wiered name as if the folder was corrupted. I deleted that folder n it was running fine again. but its back again.
mine came with telus, so it should be genuine. what does class signify? like i have class 2, what does it mean?
CLass is the speed of read and writes.
I recently had a problen like this it turned out to be a corrupt file in the .secure folder used for apps to sd.

then I guess its because of corrupt files but why is it so often specially when I copy something from windows.
I had this problem once after disconnecting from a Windows PC, simply connect the sd car directly to a computer and run the windows verification tool, it finds the corrupt file and your sd card starts working again
hey i recently had the same problem ,, but i figured it out and this method should work fine...!!
>First of all you should know how this problem has occurred..??,
well the reason is, we all connect the phone to system in usb mass storage mode ,,but while removing we'll only give safely remove in the system and forget to do the same in the phone ,,,trust me this the core for this problem....sd-card cannot be fully unmounted by system ,,, so you have to manually do this by your phone
so if you are using the sense rom ,,after ejecting the disk in the system ,,,in your your phone's notification area
in ''connect to pc'' menu select charging only .....this will completely unmount your memory card .
>if you are using non sense rom ,,"turn off the usb" mass storage
do this every time you connect your phone to the system ..!!!
ok now solution for your problem..
>reboot your phone to recovery mode using rom manager...
>select partition menu
>now select mount usb storage ,,,
>now you have tow options
1. either you backup every thing and format your sd-card (recommended)
or
2.mount your sd-card and check for errors in windows,,,
this should fix your problem ..
remember ,,next time when you are connecting your phone don't direly unplug the the cable..!!

The Class number represents a multiple of 1 MB/s
So if 2 is written on ur SD card then it means that its capable of a read speed of 3MB/s

- Not always true, its happened to me on several occassions when not connected to PC etc... Flickie HD caused mine
If you have a mac the fix is - disk utilities - repair card
Full format I found to be better though

[Q] SD Card Destroyed??

I picked up my phone looking to download a new ROM to it but then found that my ES File Explorer (given root permissions) was not able to view my external SD card via the mnt folder. At the same time, I was trying to back up my apps and such via Titanium Backup but it said that it couldn't backup anything because my card was full (it's default save location is my external card). It just said "Empty". I went to check my Settings to see if my card was somehow unmounted, but nope, it said it was still there. Even said that I had 11.27 GBs left out of 29 GB or whatever and gave me the usual options to Unmount and such. I pulled off my battery cover and the card was still there, so I assumed that the Android system might just need to sit for a while and cool off while off. Then I turned it back on to find that ES was still not able to view the contents of externalSDcard. So I went to my Root Browser and it too said that no files were there. I then went into my Settings and now it just says "Insert SD card".
I've had this happen before on other Android phones so I did what I normally do and hook it to my PC and reformat it. Windows found the device when I attached it via a SD card reader (the big fat kind like in your standard camera), it didn't want to format it. Windows brought up the prompt and said that it only could format 1GB so I knew Windows wouldn't be able to recognize it. I even tried formatting it via Command Prompt and typing "Format G:" and it too said there was only 1024MB to be formatted then went through trying to format and then said it failed.
I then tried pulling up Ubuntu's Disk Utility to format it. At first, Ubuntu wouldn't even correctly identify the device! Then I got the Disk Utility to recognize it and it couldn't even recognize how many GB/MB were originally on the card! Trying to format just brought up a message telling me that it couldn't do anything.
I had this happen a few times with my HTC Evo 4G OG but was able to format the card and put it back into my phone and have it work. Of course, the last time with my old 16GB card ended with it being destroyed much like this.
Please tell me that I can do something to fix this. Anything?!?!
This card is a 32GB Class 10 Patriot. This has happened before in my old HTC Evo 4G OG with a 16GB Class 4 SanDisk card. That card became unusable after a few times of this happening except I was able to fix it those times using the methods I tried above and allowing my phone to recognize the card again.

[Q] SD card not letting me add or delete files

I've been spending waaay to much time trying to get this phone to work as I had expected with previous phones (even my LG G2x) giving me less problems. I recently bought a Sandisk 32gb, class 10 micro sd card and after transferring old music, pictures and videos from my old LG G2x with a 16gb card, placing files from my computer back onto my S4 with the 32gb card is a nightmare! Photos are transferred but too out of order to try and deal with although it's more the music problem that has me bugging. I have some success after putting about 3gb or so onto the new*32gb sd card but after that, the sd card flips out and starts using special characters for file names. Below I attached a screenshot of what I'm going through with another app called V1 Golf for Android. I'm stuck and any help is much appreciated. I can't delete anything on my sd card nor can I add. I've reformatted this card about 4 times now without success. Some say that a Sandisk have been nothing but problems for them, you think a Samsung card could be the fix?
I'm also running windows 7 on my computer as some people have said that could interfere with the transfer but it seems like that's not the problem being that downloading apps from google play shows corrupted files depicted below.

First, did you format this 32gb sdcard using fat32, exFAT or NTFS or ?
If you did not format it with fat32 then that could have caused the problem.
First you need to remove the card from the phone and plug it into your
computer using the adaptor which came with the microsd card so it can be
tested and repaired in windows.
Once the card is plugged into the computer and it's recognized by windows make note of the drive letter.
Then open a cmd prompt in windows by going to the start menu clicking on RUN then type "CMD" and click OK to open the DOS prompt.
Then in the black DOS window type: chkdsk E: /F then press "enter" to scan and fix errors on your microsd card.
NOTE: The E: is just an example, check the actual drive letter of the sdcard which is plugged into the computer.
Please note, doing the above will not delete any files or folders unless they are deemed unusable and cannot be fixed.
The chkdsk will NOT not format your microsd card.
Good luck!

Unfortunately I ran into a very similar situation with a 64gb SanDisk card. After several months of using it successfully without issue, out of nowhere some 20 gigs of data were stuck. It seems that 1 file in a nandroid was corrupt. After formatting, re-partitioning, deleting etc, etc. with Windows 7 as well as MiniTool Partition Wizard I was unable to ever get the corrupt file to delete. Thus leaving the $60+ card useless and a prime candidate for the trash. I chalked it up too a "bizarre" instance. I have since purchased 2 64gb cards, one to replace and one for my new S4. Haven't had the issue since (knock on wood). Not sure what the exact culprit was, the recovery? (TWRP), a freak occurrance? or Just a defective card? If you have any luck saving your card please post how you did. Although I realize this probably isn't helpful except to know your not the only one.
My sd card seems to be stuck.
About 20 of 64 gb being used.
Now I can't delete anything. Or add anything.
It appears to delete and then it just comes back.
Does that mean my sd card is dead.
scandisk 64gb
Had the same thing just happen to me. Transferred a few kernel files yesterday and today couldn't delete, add or format anything. I was able to copy all files to computer but that's it.
same thing happen to my sandisk 64gb class 10 microsdcard as well
is it a virus?
I had the exact same issue with a San-disk 64gb micro sdcard, I contacted San-disk, they offered me a replacement card.I suggest you do the same, hopefully they will exchange it for you.

You can use another SD card to try whether this sd card is dead.
If anothe SD card can delete files, it proves that this sd card is dead, vice versa.
Did your problem solve? I'm experiencing now like with your problem. And I'm looking for an answer.

HELP! My 64gb microSD card no longer works in my S3

I have a rooted AT&T S3 running JellyBam 9.2
Basically what happened is after rooting my phone, my 64gb ADATA microSD card stopped letting me copy files to it while it is plugged into my computer through my phone. It would copy over about 100 mp3 files from my computer before a window pops up and says that the device has stopped working or has been disconnected. Then, I unplug my phone from the computer and try to reboot it, but it just hangs at the "Rebooting phone..." window. This only happens after the SD card messes up, all other times the reboot is fine. After I pop the battery and resume copying files, it starts to work again, but then stops after another few mp3's. The files that did manage to get copied over, however, are able to be seen and scanned by my file manager and my music app. The SD card, when plugged into my laptop through an adapter, is able to copy and read files perfectly fine. Can anybody shine some light on what is wrong and possibly how to fix it? Thanks
First you need to format the card to fat32 and then copy your files from the computer directly onto the card through a card reader not the phone Samsung has some issues with exfat which is the way the card are originally formatted. There are a number of free programs out there to format your card, hope this helps

The exFAT filesystem is proprietary. Samsung developed their own version, rather than license it from Microsoft.. and the Samsung version is known to be buggy. As jimchee explained, what you need to do is reformat your memory card to a FAT32 filesystem to ensure that it is stable.
PLEASE HELP with 64gb sd in GS3!
