Battery draining issues

I have 2 extended batteries, one is 2200mAh and the other one is 2400mAh. They both drain very fast unless they are charged using an external charger. I was just wondering if anyone else was having draining issues as well.

I personally believe that the algorithm used to determine charge capacity is inaccurate. I have a 3500 mah battery and I have to go through a series of charging maneuvers to get it to charge completely. Once it is charged fully, the battery life is outstanding. But if I simply disconnect when the LED turned green, without my maneuvering, it "appears" to drain fairly quickly.

I have the same exact problem. Do you think an update in the firmware could possibly fix this problem if it were brought to HTC/Sprint's attention

It would need to be more than 1 person complaining to get that kind of result. id by chance you're on PRL&NV 1.90, try downgrading to 1.77, as many users see better battery life on 1.77 over 1.90.

If the battery drain you see is the INITIAL drain this is to be expected. Your phone will drop to about 92% or so in the first 10 minutes. After that it should be smooth sailing

Can you define maneuvers?
I have a 3500 mah battery too. I usually leave it on the charger for a good 90-120 minutes after the green light is lit. Once the waveform in the batt monitor widget has stabilized to one resembling a sawtooth wave (/\/\/\/\/\/) with identical amplitudes, I consider it done. I followup by shutting the phone down, waiting til the amber light is green again, then unplugging/booting up.
Depending on the amount of use during the previous off charger time, rebooting it keeps the os from slowing down.

That's what happens but not around 90% its more around 70% then it last for about 8 hours

I have a 3000mah battery and I use battery snap to monitor volts and remaining time left on battery. The battery status could say 100% but I look at the volts. If it says 100% but only 3.991 Volts for example then I know my battery isn't fully charged and within 10min it will be at 88% . But when my volts say 4.204 volts then I know it's truly at 100% and battery life is great . So I suggest check the voltage before unplugging.

ive read lots of threads about the battery on the evo, its natural for it to drop from 100% to 90% within the first 10 min, something about the evo not charging the battery fully to help preserve the battery or something, there is some steps you can do to charge the abttery fully, but that invloves turning it off, plugging, unplugging, etc... personally i use an external battery charger, and 2 batteries, it seems to charge the battery better, and it doesnt seem to drop that 10% so quickly, it still drops faster then it should, but it seems to stick a little longer, but after it drops that 10% it stabalizes and drops a lot slower, u can pickup batteries and chargers cheap

Battery draining faster after calibration

I completely drained my battery from 100% until the phone shat off and then charged it to 100% again before calibrating the battery using the "battery monitor widget" app. After that, my battery seems to be draining even quickier than before. With the screen being at the top of the battery usage graph although my usage is the same as before.
Anyone else having that issue? I am rooted and running zedomax's kernel v2

Sounds about right. Every time I've "calibrated" a battery this happens. Run it dead the first charge. Then give it a few days-to-a-week before making another judgement. So long as nothing happens to your battery stats and nothing extraordinary happens WRT charging/discharge you will then have (what I consider to be) a well calibrated battery. If you don't like the results, too bad. I consider them more accurate than the very rosy outlook you had before calibration.
Myself? I haven't been burned by the battery lying to me yet so I haven't bothered to calibrate. I only do that when I feel the meter is way off base...which is hard to tell since usage can vary so much from day to day. Only when it is glaringly obvious that something is awry do I do this...mostly 'cuz it takes so long to get things back to normal.
In summary, yeah...sounds about right. Don't panic and just use it normally if you want an accurate meter, whether you like the truth or not I think you'd prefer the truth.

Your battery behavior sounds to be normal.
You should be getting about 1% battery drain per hour when screens is off.
You should be getting about 1% per 2-3 minutes of screen on time, depending on usage.
Evo4g and Evo3d were getting about 1% per 2 minutes of usage.
This phone isn't that much different.

When it dies after calibration, you should charge it to 100% without break.
Following calibration, batteries still take a little time to settle. Give it a week or two and you'll see its true discharging rates.
Also, I've never heard of that app. Use the Battery Calibration from Ne'ma.

Battery Calibration by Ne'ma works well for me. The above posts sound right give the a few cycles to settle in.

[Q] Phone uses 2% battery every 15 minutes

My phone seems to be using 2% battery every 15 minutes on standby, worse when its on.
When I check what is running, it says Android OS 50%...... what can I do? I usually charge my phone three times a day.

I use a variety of apps to check what is going on with my phone.
Watchdog - monitors apps for excessive cpu usage
Cpu spy - see how long your phone stays at each frequency, but more importantly in deep sleep.
Battery monitor widget - monitors battery usage
System tuner pro - get detailed analysis of a recorded system usage.
Also, when in battery usage, I click android os to see how long it has kept your phone awake. Have you made any changes to your phone? Installed a custom ROM?

Also...give it a few days of charge-ups. It really does make a difference.
FWIW, with moderate use, my Droid Charge 4G does about 10-15% every hour. So I don't even think 8%/hr is that bad... :/

no changes to the phone, its all stock. Any benefits moving to a custom ROM on the nexus?
I've had the phone for two weeks, battery has deteriorated. Now charge it three times a day.

You probably never calibrated it properly to begin with. Charge to 100% > unplug > wipe batterystats.bin > let the battery drain completely until the phone powers off. Then charge it continuously over night and in the morning unplug and let the phone drain completely until it powers off.
I am a pretty heavy user as I text literally every 2 minutes all day (girlfriend ) and I manage to get 20-25 hours easily.
I also drain my battery out completely every day for good measure
Charging in between screws up your calibration, try not to charge unless you are below 15%. And do not disconnect it until it is fully charged (98-100%).
Note: I've also noticed wifi saves you a lot more battery juice than being on 3G/4G, so keep your wifi active if you are in range

This is just not accurate for Lithium Ion batteries, which have no cell memory and gain more from frequent shallow charges than deep charges.

Not to mention draining a Li-ion past 5% can shorten the life of the battery.
Further Li-ion's have a lifespan measured in cycles. You get about 500 cycles on a typical Li-ion. A cycle is a drain and charge. If you use 50% of the charge and then recharge to 100% you only use half a cycle. By needlessly draining the battery you are using up limited cycles reducing the life span of the battery.
While I'm sure android's calibration needs to know the upper and lower boundaries of a charge I'm certain it would be smart enough to handle charges when the battery isn't completely drained. Most battery calibrations work this way. Every once in a while you need to charge to 100% drain to 5% and recharge without using to 100%

Clockwork Recovery -> Advanced.
.. file is in /data/system i believe

its probably a bad app working with ICS.
Use watchdog and it will tell you.
Check your widgets that they aren't constantly refreshing.

Bad battery life! Help!

So i started using faux kernel and Juggernaut 4.1. I had about 16 hours of battery life. Now my phone drops from 100% to 94% in like 20 minutes. Any help or ideas? Thanks guys.

since you're rooted, you can use cwm(ClockWorkMode) Recovery, go to advance and clear battery stats(battery calibration)... or you can shut off you phone, let it charge 100%.. takeout the battery for about 50sec(inspect the battery for leakage"which could damage your phone, if it's leaking" if it's leaking replace your battery), put it back, plug your charger, turn you phone on, while plugged let it show the 100% charge on the notification bar then you should be good..

I have noticed that my battery life drops pretty quickly if i am doing a lot of browsing, etc on the phone.
If its in standby it loses 1% approx every 7-11 minutes.

I think it was normal, all i can think of is you leave wifi on, weak wifi signal when screen off. BTW im just saying

Im having some battery issues as well.. except ive done the battery calibration through the die hard battery script and by wiping my batter stats through CWM. ive tried both of these ways then using the phone for about a week after ive done either. the problem is that my phone wont let the battery fully drain.. or even close, ill show to have about 5% left and ill check the remaining mV through the die hard script and it will have 3615mV left, which according to the the script, should be about 40% remaining. fully charged battery has 4208mV at total capacity does anybody know what the mV level should be when the phone is less than 5% and how i can fix this?? I am getting pretty good life out the battery usually lasting from 22+ hours but if this is right i should getting alot more.

20 minutes at 100% charge.

Hello everyone,
I observed a strange behavior of my arc s , when the phone reaches 100% charge and later when i unplug it my phone spends almost 20 minutes at this point and after some time it starts to discharge ie. it comes down by 1%.
But if i use it hear after it discharges rapidly.
I find this behavior very odd !
Can anyone explain me this behavior ???

Check battery use to see what is consuming the battery
Maybe WIFI and sleep policy,Bluetooth,Network type WCDMA/GSM ,GPS and accounts sync ?
Observe the diagram or the slope in the battery use to see is your battery draining fast or is it normal,also what rom and kernel are you using

Isn't that the normal behaviour of a battery coming from a smartphone? .-. Mine's like.. 20 minutes on 100% before starting going down, and it doesn't affect my overall battery life at all..

try to change kernel and rom / buy new battery

Im using maxmod ICS(V 1.1) and stock kernel.

I have observed all of that.
Everything is fine, as the display uses the battery predominantly.
My guess is that is a sign for use to change the battery.
And also i see spikes in chart instead of going down the charge goes up and down.

how old is the battery ?if the spike goes up that means it is connected to USB and the phone is charging .attached is my battery usage 7 % in 11 hours the slope is continuously going down as it's been unplugged and running on battery only ,phone and battery are a year and half old

The "spikes" you refer to are because your battery isnt well calibrated...
You can charge it fully, use it and when its around 5% charge it again to full. And if you delete the battery stats your battery must sette down over some day or two.
But for a better response you need to upload a picture of your battery stats.
My battery sometimes stays in 100% some minutes, some other times is goes down to 99 very quicky, but its normal for me cause it usually lengths for two days + with normal use

Its a year old.
Yes i totally agree the oly time the graph should go up is when its plugged in and not wen unplugged.
But i sometimes see the spikes when unplugged.
Nevertheless it has not degraded the performance.
