A issue i only experience on aosp roms no matter which one - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

no matter which aosp rom i use i have a issue where i totally lose data connectivity and it won't come back on. I have bars but no data it's like i toggled data off but can still get text and calls. the only thing that brings data back is a factory reset. I travel alot driving from city to city ( work for the railroad) so i go through diffrent bands while traveling it seems that while switch it like forgets to go to the next band sometimes. This doesn't happen all the time but it happens enough to warrant this post. when i try to toggle on and off with the pull down menu it still says att in the toggle box even though there is no data symbol by the bars in the notification bar. when i try to toggle the "att" in the toggle box never goes away.... when i go to the settings and toggle it that way it indicates off and on but still is off.
my question is this wheni go to titanium back up is there a program i can wipe data on to reset my connection?? since a factory reset cures the issue then i'm sure wiping whatever program that is hanging will cure the issue also so i don't have to keep factory resetting
this is a issue it no matter what aosp based rom i'm on.......cm10 aokp orca rom toolbox all of them i'm tried all and they all do it.

same issue
Have the exact same problem

I actually never had that issue. How are you flashing these ROMS? What I mean by that is, what are you doing in recovery when before you flash the ROM?

I have use twrp and cwm I always wipe dalvik and cache factory reset then wipe ROM. Install ROM then wipe dalvik and cache again.

What about a formatting system...?
That's also required for flashing different ROMs
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app

Also its not specific to this phone it has happened on other galaxy s3 I have had also. I'm sure it has to do with traveling and going tower to tower and network and network or something cause it always happens when I am coming back in town ( Houston)

I have been flashing ROMS since my Sony Ericsson Xperia X10a days and have always flashed ROMS since. Here is the way I have done it.
Boot recovery
Wipe data
Wipe cache
Wipe dalvik cache
Flash Rom
Reboot phone
I repeat, I never had an issue when doing this. I have done this way since and it has always worked.

What's the name of the app that resets the data connection in titanium back up
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda premium

Seriously? No one has mentioned checking your APN settings? A incorrectly configured APN would cause your phone not to connect to the data network but still receive calls or texts.
Can you still receive or send MMS messages?

ok so here's what i did i backed up everything apps and data a reloaded the rom after the usual wipes. data was working then i restored the settings and the data was gone again. wiped and installed again just restored apps and the data is there.
I know this issue isn't widely reported on but it's probably because there aren't many people that re driving out in the boonies like i do when headed to work and back. i'm sure if i was on a flight it would be different. but its a obvious issue with this device. it has happened on a couple of them for me. but only on aosp roms and not tw based roms

So you got it to work by not restoring app+data and just the apps instead ?
Like most have always said never restore with data or system apps. Push them to system yourself and honestly I don't even use titanium backup anymore... just install again but I only install 15-20 apps at most.

[Q] No data after flash, or reboot

I am having a reoccurring problem. Sometimes, when I flash a new nightly, or even just reboot my phone, I get no data. Even when I turn on wifi, it connects but stays gray instead of turning blue or teal. Same thing for my 3G. I have full bars, but it stays gray. Best way I have been dealing with it if wiping cache and reloading the rom.
I have tried going in and out of airplane mode, rebooting the phone, letting it sit for hours. I would just like to know if I'm doing something wrong.
By the way I am running CM10.
All in all, it's a small price to pay to run such a slick rom. And now that I got dual boot all figured out......much easier to try things out.

Did you do a clean flash?
Did u use the sprint cm10?
Does this happen on tw ROMs?
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Emperor using psycommu
I wiped everything except for data.
On sprint cm10
Does not do it on a tw ROM I have
So this is what you did
Was on random tw ROM>wiped cache and dalvic> flashed cm10
If so your only hope really is to wipe everything and reflasb

I finally figured it out. The problem seemed to be with my clock settings. I can replicate the problem by setting my clock ahead and reboot. Then I will not connect. I figured out it was a Google account sign in issue. If I then reset my clock to the correct time and reboot, no problems.
Just had a question about dual boot. Was it easy to setup? How hard is it to go back to single boot? I would imagine having two roms would take up a ton of space.

Phone, Data, and Messaging not working.

I recently rooted my GSIII AT&T SGH-1747 about a month ago. As was well until last week. I was running the AOKP JB rom on my phone. Suddenly my phone calls stopped going through, messages failed sending, and data didn't work. I was running CM10 kernel on my phone. In detail, my phone's reception drops to 1 or 2 bars now. When I turn on the data toggle, nothing happens. I unrooted my phone and reset it to factory default. I tried updating my phone but I get "DM initialization is not ready, Check network or SIM card." If I can't get any help, I will call AT&T and request a replacement.
Go into applications clear cache and data on the update phone try again

Very bad data

I am rooted using tweaked 1.5 perseus kernel and twrp. Have always had great speed speed with everything ive done on my note2 however after flashing some of the themes that are compatible with tweaked rom all of a sudden cant download anything at all including playstore apps. Wifi works perfect. Now im not saying the themes are the issue just a coincidence. I'm in the ann arbor michigan area. My imei and all settings seem intact. Ive reset my mobile data and all the basic crap. Has anyone got any insight on any settings I might have overlooked that may be causing these issues. Web pages load but no downloads whatsoever. Thanks in advance

Does the download status bar in notification just not work. I'm nit sure what rom or anything it was I don't remember but I was having issue where I thought I couldn't download but it was just the download status bar looking that way. My downloads were actually working fine if I used a file explorer I could see they were actually working.

When everything else fails, factory reset/wipe caches/reflash rom(or find updated version)/etc/etc/etc
Try to start over clean, if you haven't already.
I thought about doing a complete reset back to stock ,triangle away to get rid of modified status. Now that includes factory reset with stock recovery. Wont that wipe my phone completely including my backups and titanium app backups? Thanks again. When I try and download the download bar does the whole squiggly line thing never a percentage going up notification. Again I'm on tweaked 1.5 with the perseus kernel and twrp recovery.

Aosp, aokp, cm won't connect to wifi with a password.

I am having an issue with my phone connecting to my home wifi. If I run a aosp, aokp or cm Rom, my phone will not connect to my wifi with a password. It will say connecting, then it seems to hang on authenticating, and then loops back to disconnected. Before I try to connect, my wifi will show up with full 'bars' but when I press connect it shows as only one bar, even if I hold it next to my wifi router.
I reset my router to factory defaults by holding the reset button and then my phone will connect to the open wifi network, but as soon as I put it back to require a password, it loops again. I've tried different security, like wep, wpa1, wpa2 and no matter what it will not connect.
My phone connects fine on touchwiz. I'm one hundred percent sure I've entered the password correctly. I'm one hundred percent sure that I've flashed/wiped etc correctly. I even reverted back to stock rooted using Odin and started the whole process of flashing wiping from scratch.
I would love some insight. I've searched the forum and Google looking for a answer, maybe I've overlooked something? Any help anybody can give would be outstanding. Thank you in advance!

Try wiping data, clearing cache and dalvik, then going to mounts and storage and formatting /system, then going the Rom.

Have you tried flashing a custom kernel? Your phone might not play nicely with the built in AOSP kernels.

I have tried various kernels for roms I've attempted to use. For instance, on slimbean I tried the recommended kernel for that rom. For paranoid I tried that recommended kernel. I tried the cm10.1 release candidate last night, without a kernel. Can you recommend one for cm10.1?

Ktkernel or leankernel are 2 very good kernels but make sure your Rom is compatible. If custom kernels don't do the trick, try just waiting. I've had WiFi issues on cm10 and they disappeared after a few hours. Also try a custom TouchWiz rom and see if the problem persists.

Issues after update

Has anyone found any problems after the update? I'm all stock, and I've found that my Google maps will stop responding while using nav, and once it's does that the phone has to be restarted before it works again. Also when using nav, if someone calls me, it will stop nav and I have to go back and start again even if I don't answer the phone.
Also YouTube will lock up now and have to be restarted and even have had issues no recording video via camera and issues with playback, all go away after restart.
Any thoughts??

I'm not saying a factory wipe, which is a full wipe of data, will help. It is a recommendation and as good of a place as any to start of you have verified all of your app settings. To do so you can go into settings and factory wipe there or go into recovery mode and do it from there. Just keep in mind this will wipe your internal sd card and installed apps and updates. I doubt putting everything to default would help.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747
I see they just updated maps again today. Another issue is if someone calls you and you don't answer or ignore, the nav app closes and you have to restart the whole process instead like before where it went right back to nav screen after calls.
