[Q] Updating current rom to the most recent build - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I have Carbon ROM which I am thoroughly enjoying. I would like to upgrade to the newest build which I have downloaded on my phone. Is there anyway to update without having to redownload all my apps/reinstall via a backup? Can I just flash over it without wiping my phone?

Flash the ROM. Then wipe cache and dalvik. Then reboot.

What about GApps? Will I have to reinstall those as well or are those unaffected?

Yeah, forgot about those! :what:

It's the Wipe Data \ Factory Reset that gets rid of the apps, so throwing in a format /system into your dirty flash won't hurt...

Which ROM are you running? Have you tried the standard "try first" fixes? Fix permissions, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache. You could even try to flash over if the camera was working before. Just don't wipe data, and re-flash the ROM you are running.

You could try to unzip this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1599767 - and get the camera.apk. Or just flash the whole thing with the instructions in the link.
Have you tried a factory reset?

Updating Cyanogenmod without losing settings

I've been flashing the nightly cyaongenmod 10.1 builds on my i747m using cwm.
Is there a way to prevent losing all the settings and apps that I have? For example, if I don't clear data/cache will this cause bad things to happen?
Or is there another way to do this?

Get titanium backup and do a full backup of your apps/data. When you restore, dont restore any system app but you can restore the rest.
And to avoid problems, always clear cache/dalvik.

All you need to do is download the new nightly that you wanna flash, boot into recovery, flash the nightly. If you have any other files that you wanna flash like a kernel, flash them after the nightly. Clear cache & dalvik cache & reboot. You won't lose any apps or settings doing it this way. This is how I update every day. Now if you wanna do a clean install every single time you update, that's another story. The way I just explained to you will work just fine. There is no need in wiping EVERYTHING for every update.

It's not only about wiping everything (Clean flash), having a backup is always good and *needed* imo. Never know when something will go wrong, could be as simple as a corrupted download.
So just to confirm, if I download the latest nightly, boot into cwm, clear cache and dalvik, but don't delete user data, then flash ROM and gapps, it will have all my settings and apps already setup?

Thanks. I didn't think about mentioning that. It's kind of a given to me to keep a good nandroid. Some people may not know though. Thanks for adding that.

I have a touchwiz nandroid and a cm10 nandroid on my SD card and my computer.
Will I have to flash gapps again or will that already be there?

Gotta flash the Gapps everytime you flash a ROM. (Their respective one)

You will only have to flash Gapps the first time. If you update like I told you, you will not have to flash them.

Changing from stable to nightly
Hi,
I'm currently running on a cm 10.1.3 stable (note 2 N7100). I would like to install cm-11-20141027-NIGHTLY-n7100. Do i have to do a complete wipe or just flash the downloaded file from recovery.
cm upgrade manually w/o losing data

Does it apply to stable updates and upgrades also and not only for nightly?
Can I use the same method for updating CM11s to CM12 whenever they release...?
Titanium Backup
Will the Titanium Backup * root be the correct one, or the Titanium Pro?

If you are coming from a previous version of the ROM, than you will not lose any app info or data if you "dirty" flash it. Just wipe cache and davlik after flashing the new version of the ROM and gapps.

well that sounds like an over the air update unfortunately you will loose all your apps/data unless you download a program and just back everything up when your phone reboots again re-install all your apps ... ROM TOOLBOX is pretty good if not Titanium Back up theirs plenty good ones for you

[Q] Question about flashing rom

Hello, i'm a fresh man on my P936.
I got some trouble on flashing roms except of stock rom (full rom).
In my case, I can:
1. Access to CWM
2. Flash stock rom, stock-modificatied rom or full rom successfully
However, I failed in
1. flashing other roms likes PAC-man rom, ChaOS and etc third party rom. After I flashing those rom, and reboot my phone. The screen did not show anything, dark screen with LCD background light.:crying:
I have follow those inspections and tried many times.
Does any users have those experience before? And how can I solve it?
Thanks a lot:angel:
before you flash a non stock rom you need to wipe data, cache, dalvik, wipe battery stats (optional)
also do a nandroid backup before you wipe incase the new rom doesn't work for whatever reason, i had a problem flashing pacrom though too btw, it might just be the rom. you can try an older version or something too
If you're coming from another ROM It is recommended that you first do backup then FULL wipe then flash ROM

Yeah its a bug. Try flashing Wind 2.3 immediately after flashing CM (or PAC) and gapps, with no reboots between.

[Q] Bootloop + Flash ROM

if i have bootloop , should i flash a new rom using cwm? will it work? or still get bootloop?

Yes, it will recover you from a bootloop provided you do all wipes (data, system, cache and dalvik cache) and you are using a compatible kernel (for example - CM10 with FXP's kernel or Trinity Rom with DoomKernel/TrinityKernel).
if you have a nandroid backup flash it first..if not then yeah, what @abcdjdj said
The best/safe way is to flash it through Flashtool
difference?

WIPE all from recovery. But if you want you can do it from menu settings also, reset to factory settings. After that flash the new ROM, wipe dalvik's cache too.

If its just a backup you're gonna flash, just clear cache and dalvik cache then flash your backup and reboot
Just rememer to always create a backup before flashing mods bro, if you get bootloops you can easily revert to your backup instead of going through the whole process of flashing a brand new rom and starting over from scratch
