[INFO] Ubuntu Touch OS - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

It seems that developers are hard at work porting Ubuntu Touch to 20+ smartphones and tablets.
The Galaxy S series is included in that "list" although it's unclear if the U.S variants are included.
Keep on the look out for Ubuntu Touch coming to a Android device near you!
Source: Ubuntu Touch OS

Here is the devices in the works list if anyone is interested.
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Devices#Work_in_progress

Art least with an international version in the works, it should be a easy port to the E4GT. Hopefully.

I'm really surprised no one has attempted this yet. Because I'm seeing CDMA phones running it.
My only guess is our kernel setup is what's stopping it.

This would definitely be interesting, I'll have to look into this...

would like to see this happen, as i really want an alternative...even if its just to play with

ubuntu is a great operating system for a beginner

touch pro 2 running android???

is it possible to flash a android rom on the touch pro 2??? would be nice to have the hero rom on my touch pro 2 idk if its even possible
Yeah if you want to brick your phone then go ahead
You should give it to someone who wants it so bad
Dude Android is a different OS with a completely different architecture.
You may be able to port Android functions to Windows Mobile if someone is willing to do it, but it's impossible to use Android on WinMo *yet*.

I think he talks about running it nativelz on the phone...
I don|t know if you can think of a phone like a pc, but basically shouldnt it be possible to run android on the Rhodium with the right drivers and the right SPL ??
im just saying it would be nice i know its a diffrent os and i cant think of it as a pc but it all really is made by htc if u think about it if someone were able to find a way i would gladly run it on my touch...i realized when i hard reseted my phone it was very similar to when flashing the g1 thats y i asked
And don't forget they both run on the same Qualcomm MSM7200A. Making the supposition that they can be ported more plausible.
It's been ported quite nicely for the Vogue so I don't see why it couldn't be ported for the TP2. I think it just needs a dedicated dev team and a big enough user base to make it worthwhile... I'd definitely be interested in seeing that project come to light!

Yes I have a vogue (Winmo device) and have been using Android exclusively on it for the last month or so - it's fantastic! The reason I lurk in the TP2 thread is hoping Android gets ported over - I love the TP2 and its high on my "want" list but can't go back to Winmo - hopefully Android isn't too far off.
I would pay for it...
Seriously, by donation or actually having to pay for it I would have no issue forking out some dough for android on my TP2. As long as i had all the functions like wifi, 3g, bluetooth, etc. My concern is that the phone may run slower with the higher resolution screen but then again the g1 doesnt run at max cpu speeds on a stock build so maybe running it overclocked(max speed) can help. The battery life on my tp2 is wayyyy better than my g1 so if running the core faster is needed i feel the battery could keep up at least on the level of the g1. Also the additional ram may help too. Its strange how even people who dont know much about phones keep asking if i am gonna run android on it. I love my TP2 but its the hardware I love and the os is good but unless the winmo marketplace gets up an running the momentum android has is just too attractive.

I agree. I would love to have Sense UI on my TP2 once I get it. I hate WinMo, the only reason I'm getting the TP2 is because it's such a siiiick device
I'm happy to find out that I am probably not the only person who fell in love with the device after demo'ing one from the T-Mobile store. I have used windows mobile since about 3 devices ago, got a G1, currently running Sense-UI and loving it!! If the Touch Pro 2 could port an android build over with enough Developer support it could easily be done, just as all the rom flashing we never though would be possible for the G1 but ended up doing daily =) Spread the word and keep asking for developer support, don't be afraid to flash a little cash to make it worth their time, and the community will push it in the right direction
NO!!!DO NOT RUN ANDRIOD ON YOUR TOUCH PRO 2. This is totally different with its own os and that will destroy your phone....
Guinea Pig.
I dont mind being the guinea pig with my TP2 if someone can come up with a way of running android on it. I have a g1 I can use in the mean time. I would even consider a temporary phone donation if this gets some serious attention. Of course I would need it back eventually lol.

Uhm, no? Android runs through HARET, which you run from WinMO, then it closes down WinMO so that Android is the only OS running... and it runs off your SD-card. I have android on my old ELF, and I've ****ed up the install so many times, I dunno' what to do anymore, haha. Phone works fine.

Oh, so this is how the Android runs on the phone. I was under the illusion that I have to delete winmo for the running of android.....(I should learn more about that....)
Interesting, I had a G1 and loved Android. I would pay/donate money to the cause. It's worth a shot with the TP2.
I would love to see this too. I have been using a G1 for the past year and love Android. I just ordered a TP2 however, but would really like to get Android on it eventually.
+1 i would love this aswell
I've been thinking about starting the port (have to wait until the 26th to get my TP2 sadly) for Android. Not great with coding but good enough to make tweaks and such to the linux kernel. If there are any others who are interested, maybe we should get together and get the ball rolling? The TP version should work on the TP2 (same hardware underneath still) with the exception of the screen and CPU. Anyway, if anyone here is good at coding for Linux/hardware/IO/etc, please shoot me an email/PM! Don't really have a need for guinea pigs yet since anything we do will need to be tested right away, not whenever the next guinea pig is available

Run Android on WinMo 7

I have followed XDA for quite some time and have been waiting for someone to get a little bored with android like myself and start the modding of the new WinMo 7 phones to run both Android and WinMo 7. I can't find anything on it. Is it just not possible (yet)??? I know the devices can handle it...1ghz, 16gb internal, plenty of memory...Vibrant, etc. Seems like the perfect device for a dual boot Eclair/Froyo and WinMo 7. Windows Mobile 6x running Android is old and the 1st one I did was the Tytn II by HTC. Slow, but it was still nice to have both.
Any Devs out there wanna push this? I'll buy hardware and do any tests wanted. Seems Samsung specs are pretty equal between the Vibrant and Focus or even like the port of Android to the HD2...can it be done using the HD7 from T-Mo?
In the case of Samsung, why wouldn't you just get the Captivate (Galaxy S)? Already has Android. The Focus is basically the same phone...

why start from ZERO when HD2 is already running Android pretty smoothly and will be getting wp7 soon? Not to bash or anything but wp7 may not be as easy to tinker with as compared to wm6.

WebOS or ICS

So what do you guys think? Would you use webOS on your shiny gnex if it was made available?
Since HP announced the release of the webOS source code, the recently abandoned operating system has grown a rather loyal following. Progress has been made in homebrew development and in custom builds for webOS native devices. Many forum members have been clamoring for a port of webOS to Android devices for several months now. Initial ports were expected to appear for the Motorola Droid or its GSM counterpart, the Milestone, since the devices share the same OMAP3 3430 processor with the Palm Pre (the very first native webOS device).
Recently an HTC EVO 3D was spotted running a build of webOS 3.0, the version that came with the notorious HP TouchPad. Originally posted by Ryan Hope (@_puffthemagic_) on Twitter, the 3 still images of webOS running have now been supplemented with a YouTube video that can be found here. While not functional enough for actual use, the operating system boots without issue. Ryan originally started work on the port before HP released the source code for webOS. With the release of both the Android kernel and the full webOS source porting progress can only move forward from here. Could this mean widespread availability of webOS ports on Android devices soon? Depending on interest level and developer involvement, it is a possibility!
If webOS is of interest to you don’t forget to check out our webOS forum section here. Want to get involved? Developers and *nix experts, check out the webOS Software and Hacking section here!

I'd definitely try it out for kicks, webOS was a great OS. The only problem is it was great. It's outdated now with a huge lack of apps. There's already an open source project with Android, and it's backed by a huge company. WebOS will be purely community driven with people working on it in their spare time or just for proof of concepts.

Same here. I'd say it has great potential. Now that it is opensource more developers will consider it as a viable app platform.
NO...I had a Pre Plus since it launched. First things first, it did have potential, webOS that is, if only devs would focus on it to bring iOS and Android apps. Secondly, the phone itself made me hate webOS and I doubt I will ever consider going back to a webOS device/phone.
WebOS was superb for its time. But the problem is it has not grown with new competitive features and additions like android and iOS has. Its been starved and abandoned, so it will never achieve parity with android.
I'd like to dualboot webOS, or even temporarily flash it. I never got to play with wOS, but i'd like to.
no way
the maturity level is too far behind android.
webOS is awesome. but circumstances -- bad hardware & worse marketing --> low user base --> no apps -- doomed it.
sad story. i liked it a lot.
I don't even use WebOS on my HP Touchpad, no way I'd put it on my Galaxy Nexus or any Android device.
The OS is nice, but without apps WebOS gets boring real quick. And I kinda like having home screens anyway.
ICS for sure.
I wouldn't mind running a webos UI over android but webos by itself is a no from me.

I have an old phone I am not using that currently has an ICS rom on it, but if someone were to make a rom for it, I'd probably throw it on there to see what all the fuss is about webOS but more than likely remove it and put back ICS on it.

I loled. That's like using a v dub engine in a space ship.

No. Feature set is no longer competitive and app ecosystem is far behind.
That said, Android was in the same boat but I loved it and the G1 anyway.

You know what would be great? If someone developed a way for android apps to run on webOS. Similiar to what BB is doing for the playbook. It wouldn't be perfect ofcourse, but still a nice compromise.
If WebOS had two years more development then maybe but ICS is just light years away.
It wasn't the hardware lagging webos. Great concept very poor implementation which is why it failed.

Well that's the whole reason opensource webos is interesting: now it won't be limited to crappy hardware from palm and hp.
Is this a joke thread?
WebOS was good but its OLD.
Thats like asking if I'd like to have my bluray player hooked up to a CRT LMAO.
ICS is the lastest and greatest high end OS on a high end device. You don't mix new tech with old software haha

Come on... How long ago did HP Touchpad came out? 6 months ago?
And when the developers have the source they can improve it and make it much better.

[Q][ROM][DEV] Ubuntu Touch 13.x for "Seranoltexx" phones?

Will a port of the Ubuntu 13.x Touch rom (Nexus/Ubuntu Edge) ever be in the future?
I mean are there any developers around willing to port it?
Ubuntu Touch seems really cool and fast with functions to use your phone as a full desktop pc.
I would really love to see this working on S4 Mini (hoping 1.5GB Ram is enough to run Ubuntu in first place)
I hope Acro68 will look at it after his CM project.
Ignore this post.

Anybody? I would gladly help if somebody is willing to try this
Last time I checked project didn't have any usable build for the nexus devicea and all almost forgotten

[Q] Ubuntu 13.10 on our phone?

Just curious because I've seen that the latest version of Ubuntu has become available for the first time on smartphones starting with the Nexus 4, given the similarities between the two, and obvious differences, I'm wondering if anyone has any plans to try to port this to our LGOG?
If you're taking about Ubuntu touch then there are people working on it. If you're talking about the full distro then you can install... I believe it's called complete Linux installer and it will allow you to download and install full desktop distros to your phone

i believe the main problem is there is no cdma support for it. get on this thread and you should learn some more about it
