So i've been spending a couple of hours over a couples of days trying to unroot en relock my phone.
I had some USB problems and Charging issue's So i wanted to return it in stock..
But Like I said my USB didnt work so I decided to take my losses and just return it, rooted with Superuser installed.
after Explaining my situation the Tech Guy from my Carrier Tells me...
O you have rooted your Phone. Well that might be a problem with the insurance... unless you got a Nexus Device.
I was like what do you mean.
well with all Nexus Devices you are allowed to root your phone...
So i was wondering , who knew about this?
What carrier? This is definitely not the company line from any carrier I know.
Probably just doing so nice customer service. If I was the tech guy id repair it for free since most people always root it anyway. Plus its kind of encouraged anyway.

I was in Sprint yesterday asking them about the newest radio for the JB build (I was having issues with a backup I made and having old radios preventing me from getting the JB OTA update). Anyways, the guy asked why I would need to know about the radios and I played dumb as to why I wasnt updating. My phone was relocked and unrooted but he picked up on it and said he wouldnt even touch the phone to give me help as modding the phone voids warranty. I was able to figure out on my own and fix it but they were pretty strict on the rules.
You're lucky man!! I asked in a shop and they said that I'll lose warranty. What carrier??

Not true, rooting is discouraged but is not grounds for denial of warranty.

You can still have a valid warranty if you are rooted, but it depends for what you a claiming damages. If your power button stops working, that has nothing to do with root, they will just repair the button or give you a new model. However, if you call up your carrier and say something about your phone not turning on, then they might deny you coverage if they find out your phone was rooted/flashed

Reread what you posted, your first sentence and last sentence kinda contradict each other. Also, all I am talking about is rooting, not hardware failures, not water damage.
You should read the pdf I posted, they cannot deny you warranty just for rooting. Individuals may give you problems because they do not know Sprint's own policies, but if you escalate you should eventually find someone who knows what's what.
Oops I had it mixed up thanks for clarifying. Hardware problems can be fixed rooted as long as they don't check. If its something root related then no. Always best to return to stock everything and if you can reset flash counter.

Last year when I bought my Galaxy SII, I forget what I was asking the guy at the T-Mobile store but he suggested I root it (planned on it anyway), he rooted all his phones, and I shouldn't have any problems if I have to return it but if I do to just go back to stock first.
I've had my phone for roughly 15 months. It has been my first foray into Android and I absolutely it. What I don't like is TouchWiz. It makes the phone a hassle to use because of how slow it runs. I've heard rooting makes a phone faster but I've always been hesitant to root it because of how it voids your warranty. However, since I'm eligible for an upgrade come February so I figure I should root my phone to experience rooting. I don't want to do it if it prevents me from getting a new phone.
Can anyone help me out here?

you can always unroot your phone and im pretty sure that if you are eligable for an upgrade that they arent going to search your phone, more than likely is they send straight to factory and just flash it and send your phone to people who broke theirs lol
just saying from what i heard of, but you can root your phone and unroot if you want to experience how it is to have a rooted device, my phones een rooted for about year and a little more than half, soft bricked so many times but thats the fun part
flashing gets pretty addicting lol, im like a flashaholic
but trust me you'll enjoy it
Don't phone carriers have a way of knowing if you've rooted your phone in the past? The last thing I want to happen is to be told that I have to pay full price for a new phone after having it for like a week.
Straight from t-mobile website:
"As long as the phone you're trading in powers on, is not cracked, and has no water damage, you only have to pay a down payment for the next phone when you’re ready to upgrade."
At the same time it also mentions this:
"Once the used phone is received at the Trade-in Center, it will be tested and inspected. All personal data and corporate IT policies will be removed."
I would recommend reverting to stock first.
Thank you very much.
With this info in mind, I plan on rooting my device using Cyanogenmod. Can anyone confirm if triangle away works with the T-Mobile SII? How would I return to stock?
I've upgraded a few phones that were rooted and had different Roms I just flashed to stock and didn't even unroot they didn't check but might wanna just in case lol plus custom recovery is kinda a give away lol

I've heard that if they find it rooted, even if it is a big IF, they are able to void the warranty. Don't think anything it matters for an upgrade though. Either way, they probably won't check it, and even if they do, I don't think they will do anything about it. You can always go back to stock to be safe.
I heard for the Note 3 they are adding a detection hardware that cannot be undone once rooted, even if you go back to stock. These kinds of things are made for people who like to find ways around them though, and these people usually win.
So, does TriangleAway work with the Samsung Galaxy S2? (I have the SGHT989D unlocked and rooted)?
I just recently got a Note 3 which i use on Metro PCS. I haven't had any Samsung system updates so I'm still on the stock 4.3.3 rom. I noticed every now and then, I'll get a notification about an app being blocked so i figured I'd check if it's Knox or the annoying security scanner that came with the phone
so i clicked on Knox and got a screen with Knox saying to install 200mb. Since it doesn't seem to be installed...Can I root this phone without tripping the warranty counter?

Knox is on your phone. It's probably additional files needed to run it, but you have knox and as such you have the warranty void counter. You can root de la vega and keep your knox warranty or cf auto root if you don't care. I would stay away from kingo based on what I've read on this forum.
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
Is there an advantage to rooting with something besides the root de Vega that would trip knox. I would like to root to a lighter ROM that gives me longer battery usage cause this guy can't squeeze out more than 4 and half hour of screen time.
Also any news on a Samsung update to the camera, it sucks at low light conditions
Sent from my SM-N900T using xda app-developers app
If you plan on flashing rooms you might as well use cf auto root since a custom recovery or room will trip your knox counter anyway. As for your battery life, something seems a bit wrong. I use mine quite heavily and I cam easily get a day from it.
Haven't heard anything about a camera update as of yet.

But you use a Customized ROM that lowers battery drainage yes? Or do you have some features that you turn off?
What is cf auto root?
I'm on stock rooted only. Cf auto root is a file designed by chainfire to root the note 3 among other devices. Google it. You need the files for hltetmo.
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
So Cf installs a rooted stock ROM that doesn't trigger Knox? I'm guessing the lte thing you mentioned only works for rooted devices? And that it will work on Metro, my phone is not unlocked bur obviously works flawlessly on Tmobile.
Any non root hotspot app that works?

LOL how are you guys okay with losing your samsung warranties. I paid 665 for my phone so I am paranoid. Do y'all have another coverage that you use? If so I need some recommendations.
So if I don't want to trip KNOX there is only one root option?

Here's my current thought process on the warranty matter:
I literally just got my note 3 a few hours ago, but already the bloat is making me scathingly angry. So my choices are....root (vega) and do nothing, say screw it and do whatever I want and lose warranty, or....do nothing.
I'm trying to picture scenarios in my head where I would have to use my warranty (I also have Jump!). I can't think of any short of: my charger port stops working, or I bust the screen. But at that point, I'd probably just run over it with my car, pay the insurance deductible and get a new one. I'm not thrilled at the prospect of paying that deductible, but I'm currently less thrilled about putting up with Bloatwiz.
I haven't taken the plunge yet, but if you can think of other good reasons not to go ahead and trip knox and enjoy the beautiful bloat-free ROMs they have here, please let me know.

So this my question where I cant find a clear answer to. If I flash custom roms it trips the KNOX counter and lose warranty right. Does that mean I cant get a new note 3 from my tmobile insurance? I mean if I can flash roms but I am still able to get a new note 3 through my insurance then its a no brainer for me, which warranty is if you have phone defects and software issues which im sure custom roms can fix all that. But I just want to know if flashing custom roms voids the insurance through my t-mobile? cause I wouldnt mind paying the deductible

sometimes they just put insurance since its a new phone. But most of the time they ask you if you want insurance, its an option. You can pay 10 bucks more a month for the insurance if not you don't have to but wont have insurance. If you just got the phone I sugget you call customer service(611) and ask if he put insurance if not ask them to put the insurance on the acct.

Yeah thats how much it usually is 70 bucks. But if you haven't payed the phone off completely you pay like 20 bucks a month till the phone is payed off or have the option to turn in you're phone for a newer one like the s5 when it comes out, that's like the whole reason for the JUMP. But yeah the phone is worth it, it will be more worth it if I can find out flashing a custom rom won't affect my insurance plan on my acct.

To answer your question there Edo, some of as such as myself are microelectronics gurus, and tinkerers, so were most likely going to take our phone apart anyway so Warranty=POOF, some of us also own devices that we either bought or bartered for on craigslist, so to be honest, some of them may not be what you would call "legally aquired" and i dont necessarily mean that any one of us stole the device, what i mean is it could be stolen and we may have bought it that way, (i honestly cant say i support that, but i cant turn away a good deal sometimes)**I KNOW ITS WRONG PLEASE DONT HATE ME** and others such as myself, bought a device like my Tmobile note 3 that was blacklisted for non payment because whoever owned it previously didnt pay the bill, but has no clue on how to unlock/root/rom a phone and have it currently unlocked on Straight Talk with AT&T sim, usually if its blacklisted with AT&T, it will still work on their towers, you just cant call AT&T and add it to your account, you can only put your sim in, 9 times out of 10 when its blacklisted from T-Mobile, you cant use it on their network wether its simple mobile, solavei or any tmobile tower using service, because the device will be declined for registration on their network. However for AT&T its nice to know a friend that can unblacklist phones
but ya, most of us dont care about warranty, but there are a great deal of us here that do at the same time
My Note 4 has been giving me some problems recently, being laggy and hiccuping much more than usual. I pay monthly for an Equipment Protection Plan with Sprint, and I plan on bringing my device in tomorrow to see what can be done. I'm hoping for a possible replacement but I have no idea how Sprint handles my type of problem. Anyone know?
My device is currently unrooted. It's been rooted in the past, and I've installed custom Recovery's and ROMs in the past. I have several questions, please answer any if you can!
1. Can sprint detect my device has been rooted? If so, how? (and will this effect their decisions as far as repairing it, even with the Equipment Protection Plan?)
2. Any idea what Sprint may do? I've never dropped my device, it has NO physical damage and NO liquid damage. I've tried factory resets several times, will they hold my phone an attempt to repair? Will they give me a brand new device? Will I have to pay?
Thanks!
[Q] Does Sprint Buy-Back devices?
I want to keep this as short as possible!
I have a Note 4 on a two-year contract, I've had it for 5 months now. I am going into sprint tomorrow to either:
1. Have my device repaired/replaced (It's performing very slow all of a sudden, randomly super laggy).
2. Pay the early termination fee to cancel my 2yr contract, and buy a new device. (Don't yell at me for this d
So, I'm torn. If Sprint can replace my device with a brand new Note 4, I'll just get a brand new Note 4 (I pay for the Equipment Protection Plan).
But if they ask for say.. $200 to repair/replace my device, I would much rather: Pay to cancel early termination fee, sell my phone to sprint, and get a new device (GS6 or iphone 6+)
The problem is.. I don't want to go in saying my phone is defective, then they say "That will be $250 to replace it". And then I say.. ohh.. well then nevermind, I would like you guys to purchase this somewhat defective Note 4 from me. (They probably will offer less for the device, or not even offer anything for it).
What would you do in my position?
Thanks!

This is a tricky answer because while they can see that you've rooted your device (check Knox Boot Flag), it really depends on the day the rep is having or if they're super new and following all the rules to a "T" as to whether they'll even check or not.
2. Any idea what Sprint may do? I've never dropped my device, it has NO physical damage and NO liquid damage. I've tried factory resets several times, will they hold my phone an attempt to repair? Will they give me a brand new device? Will I have to pay?
Based on the above question I'm going to assume that you're rooted and still running stock? Are you using Xposed mods at all? Xposed has this nasty habit of making the Note 4 very laggy, luckily the fix is pretty simple. If you're using Wanam, disable Samsung Secure Storage, reboot into recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache then reboot your device and enjoy.
To do it manually:
Download a build.prop editor, they're readily available from the Play Store
Change "ro.securestorage.support=true" to "ro.securestorage.support=false" and save it
Reboot and wipe caches as decribed above
If all else fails, reflash back to completely stock, ie... No root.
Good Luck:good:

Sprint doesn't care of you've rooted your phone in the past, as long as you unroot it. Doesn't matter if the Knox flag is tripped, they don't care. I've exchanged my formerly rooted note 4 because of camera issues, and have had no problem.
And they will not charge you anything if you have TEP as long as you can show a legitimate issue on your phone. They charge you the $200 for a lost/stolen phone, or for a cracked screen or water damage, not for other hardware or unfixable software issues. So just go for it.
Also just like Stryke says, Xposed makes it super laggy unless you do the fix like he describes

Read my whole post a couple times before u do anything.... I kinda jump around a bit.
I'm wondering if u just jumped into rooting and roming too early. Seems like u weren't ready reading through ur posts. There are many warnings on xda about being responsible for ur device. Everyone here accepted the fact that if we f are phone up we are paying to get it replaced, not Sprint. Which should put more pressure on u to be ocd about all the steps and not be like, oh I have so much knowledge about all this that I can just not do step xyz.
With that said let's get to helping u.
I'm not saying that u messed it up though. It could be a hardware issue. But I'm thinking u haven't tried everything u could. Maybe Odin to stock KitKat, See how that goes. If that goes well take the OTA to 5.0.1. If it's ok at any of these points it was user/installation error somewhere. If it's not ok still, Maybe root than, install recovery and wipe everything, data, system, cache, dalvik, internal, external. Odin again to KitKat. See how that goes. Maybe take the OTA to 5.0.1 again. See how that goes. No custom kernel, no custom govs, no root, no xposed, no anything that the user can possibly mess up. Also u might need to check n see if ur gpu isn't hanging at 240mhz. If I don't have things a certain way on lollipop it may sit at 240. After the fresh installs that u try when it boots up let it sit for 10 min, skip through the whole beginning setup every time, and go back and sign in to Google after that. Don't do anything fancy, install a couple apps you would use and use normal.
Try out some suggestions and report back later. Maybe after a day of working on the phone through software can u rule that out and say it's hardware.
Also get all downloads needed done first and out of the way, KitKat tar, lollipop tar and maybe 2 alternate custom roms. Don't be flashing a KitKat rom while u have a lollipop bootloader or lollipop rom while u have a KitKat bootloader, might cause other problems or even actually be the cause of ur problem.
Its called android 5.0.1

There are no other root methods and possibly won't be any more. Of I'm correct there's only a recovery for one variant and if it's not your model I honestly wouldn't risk it. There is OneClickRoot .com where you connect with a technician live online and they root it with that method remotely and its 40 bux I believe but, you have a 100% guaranteed if no success which they will succeed, you don't pay, and if something goes wrong they replace your phone. They have been around a few years and I see nothing but good comments about them and talked to several g4 owners who did it. I desperately want root on mine but I'm not attempting that delicate **** with my bad luck lol and there's not much dev for it cuz of the locked boot loader right now, hence no custom rims so I'm considering claiming mine lost ad forking 40 bux which is worth it for me

I desperately want root on mine but I'm not attempting that delicate **** with my bad luck lol and there's not much dev for it cuz of the locked boot loader right now, hence no custom rims so I'm considering claiming mine lost ad forking 40 bux which is worth it for me

Thank you so much for replying back so quickly, i actually saw oneclickroot.com as an option, but i didnt know if it was a trusted website or if it was any good, i didnt see any BBB credentials and felt that it was just a website design to take your money, but now that you mention all of the above, im gonna speak with a technitian before i do anything, thanks for all your help and good luck rooting your device as well..
You have the T Mobile variant, why don't you just unlock the bootloader officially, install TWRP, the install SuperSU zip file and root that way?

Because honestly, i have no idea how to do all that, i dont even know what any of those things mean, im new at all this and only reason i want to root my device is to upgrade roms and hack games, i think my best option is paying money so i can get it done, because obviously doing it by myself wasnt such a good idea..if you could explain and guide me through the process i could try it, i just dont want to make the same mistake and hard brick my device again..thanks..
I would go do A LOT of reading about EVERYTHING related to rooting and unlocking before going any further..

Yes These guys are absolutely right you need to go do some serious research and completely forget rootin a g4 if your not a fly advanced user. I started when I found a lil Samsung Galaxy centura on the side of the road out walking one day and I got lucky it was a very simple root. Really what is absolutely crucial is that custom recovery which I learned the hard way, I still have a gpad 10.1 brand new in my drawer that won't go past the boot, fastboot, and stock recovery and I dont have a PC and I haven't had experience using a PC in many years lol but I got as far as possible without one and being able to flash a different roM depending on my mood and easily laugh at a brick or bootloop while stepping over it is a great feeling I recommend highly. But your not quite ready yet especially for a tricky ***** like the g4, Hell Im not ready for it nor can afford it lol I give that lil L70 utter hell though and learn every day… since you have an unlockable BL (soooo jealous lol jk) you have more options but trust me find an old phone and practice all you can first ..good luck and have fun expanding your mind man[emoji6] [emoji4]
Oh and if you need any help you can private message me and ilk do my best. If I can't answer something I know some guys who can
Oh yeah (again lol) it all may seem complicated at first but you hit a point where it will all just click and fall into place like flipping a switch and then be amazed that everything actually works the way it does, it's just getting to that threshold that is the tricky part

From my experience, initially you may get confused about all terms like root, bootloader, recovery, 3 wipes, Supersu, etc but when you find a post teaching you how to root or install recovery, you need to make sure you download the correct image/file for your phone model! But most importantly you need to know how to rescue by yourself if anything go wrong first. DOWLOAD CORRECT KDZ AND IMG BEFOREHAND for pre-cautionary measure. Well known about the steps how to hard reset to restore to factory image.
All in all, I was not studied IT but rooting and installing recovery is a skill facilitating my phone experience! Have fun on it!!

Yep all those big damn words lol they got me too at first. But yes there's so many phone models so similar with the slightest difference your never see but require completely different files ...just pay attention to every detail

So you called in your carrier and pretended that your phone was stolen because you bricked it while trying to root it. That's awesome.

You are worried about a site with BBB credentials and you committed insurance fraud.
