[Q] Another which ROM thread :] - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all. Just wondering which is the most customiseable [if thats a word] rom. I have a one x and am using a venom rom and love the fact that its easy to customise everything. Which rom or roms are like that for the desire? Thank you kindly one and all.

Define customisable
Sent from my Nexus 10 using XDA Premium HD app

I can change how my phone looks. Like all the icons, themes and loads of other superficial things. I guess you can do that with all roms but with the venom Rom its all grouped together in one place, so you can tweak it all easily.

You can not-so-easily customise a rom by changing framework things, or by changing the launcher.
Many roms have the option to install custom icon sets, like mildwild roms.
It's just a matter of trying roms and finding the one you like.

Mildwire was the next one I was gonna try funnily enough, tis downloaded and ready 2 flash. Thank you kindly.

I used Mildwild for months, working good and roms based on cyanogenmod seem quite "customizable"

Best MIUI ROM?

I would like to know everyone's opinion of the best MIUI ROM and why. I want to try one out but there are so many different kinds.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I've been happily using the MIUI.us release for a while.
MIUI is a Chinese ROM, the other ones are just translated versions of the same ROM with some minor changes. In ROM Manager, there's the original Chinese MIUI, MIUI.us, MIUI Android, and MIUI-PT.
MIUI.us is the most popular of the 3, haven't used MIUI-PT, but I'd assume it's not much different.
Not really much of a difference. There are a few that remove a few apps and such, but as far as settings and such I don't see much of a difference
Sent from my HTC Desire Z using XDA Premium App
Seriously that whole miui debacle is a mess. I don't even THINK of trying it because there are 13425 of them to pick from and barely any documentation on what makes them different! But honestly if i was gonna try it, it would be the official miui usa release. Or better yet i might just go buy an iphone
Meh.
I'd go with the MIUI.us version off of their site. Most frequently updated, less buggy, smooth, negligible speed difference between it and the other "optimized" versions of ROM Manager. Like mentioned above, some just add or remove some apps and other minor stuff. MIUI.us is the official "unofficial" MIUI translation, as mentioned on the chinese MIUI site.
It really doesn't matter which one you flash. Once you've installed the Simpson's theme, it's all money
Yeah just install MIUI.us through ROM Manager (The version on ROM Manager is up to date). It has the best english translation, and its the most used by far.
And I must say, MIUI is a very nice ROM, by far the most user-friendly. It has a somewhat iPhone-like UI, but much nicer looking. It's heavily customizable, but I'm quite fond of the defautl theme that's pre-installed with the latest MIUI.us
I personally prefer Cyanogenmod myself, but if I was going to choose a phone for a non-power user, it would be an Android phone, and I would install MIUI on it.
Thanks for all your replies. I understand there is no app drawer in MIUI if I'm not mistaken. I would like to know if there is a way to put this in the rom. Or an app that can do this or something similar because for me I need it to be organized. Thanks for your help in advance.

You can use any of the many different launchers that are available. My favourite is launcher pro. Or you could use adw, go launcher, stock gingerbread. Take you pick

This. If you want Tmo app drawerish and launcher, you could push Launcher2. I did that for awhile (break from cyanawesome)

MIUI.us Official with LauncherPRO will give you the best experience. I personally like the UI of MIUI and I don't miss the app drawer too much. It just takes a little getting used to. Plus, having 9 homescreens is pretty cool =p
Yeah, the default launcher with MIUI is more like the iphone launcher. All your app icons are on the many home screens. However you can easily install any other launcher, my favorite is Go Launcher.

I was wondering the whole 4 different versions of MIUI from Rom manager myself. I NEVER flash roms from Rom manager, only from recovery but I do download from Rom manager occasionally. I have been using MIUI.us WITH launcher pro. I LOVE the rom, but do not like the iphone launcher. An app drawer is a must for me, and I use too many widgets to use the default iphone launcher. I know you can use widgets on the default launcher but it's a lot easier with launcher pro to just long press and add them. I'm a big fan of Sense, have always stuck with it over CM7 (except on my Nook of course) but I figured I needed a change. So far MIUI is the most stable ROM I've EVER used outside of the stock rom (which isn't always stable......ask any VZW BB Tour owner when OS 5 was "officially" released).
Point is MIUI is a really great ROM. Many criticize it because it looks like an iphone at first, but with a new launcher, it's surely pure android. Enjoy.
you should just try one and see for urself... one thing i love about MIUI is how easy it is to customize the themes and the variety of themes available directly on the phone... not like CM where u have to find the theme in the forum or market... definatly give it a try

Stock and fast Gingerbread rom for desire hd?

Hello,
Im searching for 100% stock looking gingerbread rom which is also very lightweight and fast. I would like cyanogenmod, but i hate the adw launcher and dont want to mess around with it. Im searching for a stable, completely stock looking, fast and lightweight rom. Something like cyanogenmod but with stock look.
Thanks
Have you try the latest Revolution HD rom?
Sorry but I'm searching for stock gingerbread Rom without sense UI like in nexus s

I dont want half sense half stock experience. I want full vanilla android gingerbread. No custom themes, launchers, apps and stuff. Just vanilla gingerbread like on nexus s.
So i did further research and found rom called desired aosp, that was exactly what i was looking for. But the problem is that its no longer maintained and it has bluetooth problem. Anyone can recommend something similair to what desired aosp rom had?

If you want as good as it gets Stock Rom, Try RCMix. Comes Super Stock Look, feel, & has the options to change small tweeks for personalized function like a battery percentage, the ability to turn on features like 3d effects, etc.
It also has awesome support by development, &other users.
Don't settle untill you've tryed the RCMix Rom.
I forgot, you wont see it on the front page, so here it is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1261721 or use rom manager to download a rom & find it in there under RCTeam RCMix. The Newest Version is in apparently in the finishing testing stages & should be available soon. These roms are released with minimal issues due to the extensive testing by the devs.

[Q] changing recent apps' style to ics recent apps' style

Hi guys
I'm wondering if there's a posibility of changing htc one x's recent apps' style to ICS recent apps' style? because the Ics's is more practically and doesn't drain the battery.
another thing is , do you know how to make the sense allow me to add more than seven panels or homescreens? because I need to put a lotta widgets there and 7 isn't enough for me and I don't wanna use other launchers because if I did I lose sense widgets.
thanks

I think it's custom the rom name is:
Leedroid
sorry I'm not into developing that much can you tell me what does stock mean?
please help .
I have the same question for a different ROM, this what I posted on another more general Revolution HD thread,.
"I'm running Android Revolution HD 7.0.0 with franco r10 kernel and have 'no-sense'd it using ROM cleaner.
Is there a way to change the look and feel of the recent apps UI to be like the stock ICS one that you get on the cm9 ROMs? That is, a vertical scrolling 2D list rather than the 3D card shuffling you get by default on the One X.
Searching the forums here and the rest of the net I think I've got as far as working out it's in SystemUI.apk, but I've no idea if that is interchangeable between ROMs; I doubt it is.
I realise this is a very minor annoyance, but any help would be greatly appreciated!"

Hey! someone should know it guys, how can we do it?

[Q] Is there an AOSP ROM that doesn't remap the app switcher button to menu?

Is there? Pretty much every AOSP ROM has it as menu, and that pisses me off.
I'd much rather hold the switcher button for menu.
Help please
why does every single question i ask on this forum never gets answered? please help
ViperX has that option as a tweak, more of a sense Rom with the option to choose apex or nova launcher for aosp look and feel
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Not just ViperX, every Sense ROM, including stock has that.
I want this for AOSP based ROMs, though, and I can't find a single one with this.
For now, all AOSP Roms use the appswitcher button as Menu, and long-press home as appswitcher. I think most people like it that way and that's why everybody have chosen to have it like that in their Roms.
I know you can change the button by yourself, but it will need a little hacking.
If you read in Tripnravers CM9 thread a couple of days back, someone explained how to do it..
I would like to know this aswell. Could anyone post how to do this?

Did you find anything? I really would like to know also, i want a slim rom (like asop) with the app switcher button intact. I would also like to know if it would be possible to use the recent apps in sense style. Thnx in advance!

It's intact, just hold it for like 2 seconds, can't be that much of an effort right? (imo)
The Domination cm9 rom has adjustable buttons in settings. So only aosp based rom that works for me. I'm a bit surprised that people need the menu button so much.

That is the legacy way though.
Google stated that the app switcher should be separate, and I want it to be like that.
Its not so much need. Its the way it has always been in android to long press home for recent apps. So that building from source you would have to modify it to have the sense style app switcher layout
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
But it's not like that anymore! The app switcher should be a dedicated button!
And it is NOT Sense style. It is ANDROID. Google says that it has to be like HTC did it.
Besides, is it too much to want to have the buttons do what they say?
I switched to Jelly Bean now, and I just don't know what to do.
...you know that you could simply open the the keylayout file which is located in /system/usr/keylayout with a simple texteditor
and remap the button yourself back to appswitcher?
In tgascoigne's thread he suggested just undoing via the file. It wouldn't make sense to feature the option on an AOSP build, but can see it making it into CM builds.

@SilverHedgehog:
Did you find anything yet? Im using the renovate rom with novalauncher. The app switcher button is still intact there, with a few sense options too. The rom.is around 300 mb. I asked the question in the rom thread but did not get a reply.
People, Android is OPEN SOURCE, so please stop wining about rather it would be better the way its being used by most ppl, thats not the android way people.
I am using adroid with the reason that u can customize ANYTHING.

there's the domination ROM, but that's all to my knowledge.
can't find anything else, sadly.
uhhhh.....way hot here eh?
Ok, let's try to re-start, thread has been cleaned, from now let's try to have a clean discussion, ok?
Did you try the RENOVATE rom? Im using that one on a daily base. I will try the domination rom.
Didn't try Renovate.
I'm on Jelly Bean right now, for which, sadly, I couldn't find a solution...

Clean Sense ROM

Hi,
I know there is the Index and lot's of other Threads like this and there is also your friend called search and google. But after tring to make my own ROM - and failing with this - i'm now looking for a ROM like this:
- Fully working (3G, GPS, Market, Wi-Fi, Camera, Active Sync,...)
- I don't need the radio if this feature is not available.
- A really clean ROM. So no brandings, no tweaks, or something like this.
- an A2SD script. I don't care whether it's amalruz, or Dark tremor, or what ever. It should work and that's it.
- Sense ROM. If possible Sense 4.x () But if not possible i would also take 3.x. I defently should have the Lock Ring.
I hope you can help me there to found a ROM
Thank you
This one is good

I had the SuperSense from RSK and it wasn't that good. I'll try this.
Is there a Sense 4 theme for the ROM??
Yes I believe there is... There's even a sense 5 theme I think

Yes i found a Sense 3 Theme and the Sense 5 Theme, but Sense 5 seams to be like 3 for me
Did someone knows an download for Sense 4 theme??
Some of your requirements exclude each other. If you wish clean, stable and fast I'd use Cool sense v3 or An-Droid which I used for over a year. If ring is a must - which is a hack per se and thus excludes some other requirements, most likely I'd use Alex V rom. Usually clean, stable and no tweaks can't be put in the same sentence with higher Sense versions.

Try the rom in my signature. Fast sense with lock ring.
Thank you for all your posts. The ROMs look all great i'll try them and take the one i like
