I would like to know everyone's opinion of the best MIUI ROM and why. I want to try one out but there are so many different kinds.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I've been happily using the MIUI.us release for a while.
MIUI is a Chinese ROM, the other ones are just translated versions of the same ROM with some minor changes. In ROM Manager, there's the original Chinese MIUI, MIUI.us, MIUI Android, and MIUI-PT.
MIUI.us is the most popular of the 3, haven't used MIUI-PT, but I'd assume it's not much different.
Not really much of a difference. There are a few that remove a few apps and such, but as far as settings and such I don't see much of a difference
Sent from my HTC Desire Z using XDA Premium App
Seriously that whole miui debacle is a mess. I don't even THINK of trying it because there are 13425 of them to pick from and barely any documentation on what makes them different! But honestly if i was gonna try it, it would be the official miui usa release. Or better yet i might just go buy an iphone
Meh.
I'd go with the MIUI.us version off of their site. Most frequently updated, less buggy, smooth, negligible speed difference between it and the other "optimized" versions of ROM Manager. Like mentioned above, some just add or remove some apps and other minor stuff. MIUI.us is the official "unofficial" MIUI translation, as mentioned on the chinese MIUI site.
It really doesn't matter which one you flash. Once you've installed the Simpson's theme, it's all money
Yeah just install MIUI.us through ROM Manager (The version on ROM Manager is up to date). It has the best english translation, and its the most used by far.
And I must say, MIUI is a very nice ROM, by far the most user-friendly. It has a somewhat iPhone-like UI, but much nicer looking. It's heavily customizable, but I'm quite fond of the defautl theme that's pre-installed with the latest MIUI.us
I personally prefer Cyanogenmod myself, but if I was going to choose a phone for a non-power user, it would be an Android phone, and I would install MIUI on it.
Thanks for all your replies. I understand there is no app drawer in MIUI if I'm not mistaken. I would like to know if there is a way to put this in the rom. Or an app that can do this or something similar because for me I need it to be organized. Thanks for your help in advance.

MIUI.us Official with LauncherPRO will give you the best experience. I personally like the UI of MIUI and I don't miss the app drawer too much. It just takes a little getting used to. Plus, having 9 homescreens is pretty cool =p
Yeah, the default launcher with MIUI is more like the iphone launcher. All your app icons are on the many home screens. However you can easily install any other launcher, my favorite is Go Launcher.

I was wondering the whole 4 different versions of MIUI from Rom manager myself. I NEVER flash roms from Rom manager, only from recovery but I do download from Rom manager occasionally. I have been using MIUI.us WITH launcher pro. I LOVE the rom, but do not like the iphone launcher. An app drawer is a must for me, and I use too many widgets to use the default iphone launcher. I know you can use widgets on the default launcher but it's a lot easier with launcher pro to just long press and add them. I'm a big fan of Sense, have always stuck with it over CM7 (except on my Nook of course) but I figured I needed a change. So far MIUI is the most stable ROM I've EVER used outside of the stock rom (which isn't always stable......ask any VZW BB Tour owner when OS 5 was "officially" released).
Point is MIUI is a really great ROM. Many criticize it because it looks like an iphone at first, but with a new launcher, it's surely pure android. Enjoy.
you should just try one and see for urself... one thing i love about MIUI is how easy it is to customize the themes and the variety of themes available directly on the phone... not like CM where u have to find the theme in the forum or market... definatly give it a try

I've been playing around the Miui rom and there are some really neat apps that I would love to have on CM's rom. File explorer with the way it organizes apks, music files, and etc and the traffic monitor app that tells you everything bandwidth you used and whatever.
Is there anyway we can port them over?
Im trying to find out the same thing. The framework is different so it may be hard but if someone could it would be awesome.
the miui music app rocks! Been using it on my Galaxy s, trying tonight on Desire Z aswell.
well, MIUI Framework is different and it wont work at all in other roms. But why do you want to use its app for another rom? is there something wrong with MIUI that you dont like ?
I don't like how miui looks more like the iphone os, I like the way the stock Android looks, hence why I'm using cyanogen mod.

So do what I do and use an alternative launcher like launcherpro or adw. Works flawlessly.

Miui has really improved since the last comment has been posted. Its super rootytooty now, in case anyone wants to try it, and it can be themed outrageously to make it look like android os, if you don't like the iphone-ish theme.
Anyway, I kind of like the op's thoughts. I wouldn't mind a few miui apps on mexdroid, for example. Flashing and restoring between roms for a few nice features is troublesome ._.

MIUI default theme really looks like iOS yeah but you can change it very easily.
I'm using ADW Ex so i can customize my homescreen and use an appdrawer.
The lack of appdrawer seems to me like the main reason why MIUI looks like iOS. So you just need to install the launcher you want (or enable the MIUI app drawer with the MIUI Extended settings mod) and delete all icons on your homescreens to make your MIUI rom more like the stock one.
MIUI Theming engine is the best and that's what i would like to be ported on other Roms.
I think it'd be interesting for someone to come up with a ROM possibly cyanogen or liquid based, and replace everything possible with go apps. ie: go launcher, go locker, go weather, go sms, etc.. it would add an interesting theming aspect that I think many would enjoy. Would this be possible??

well we did this back on froyo for the fascinate touchwiz http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1085298

andmer was the brains behind the rom really...he had to HEAVILY modify the touchwiz framework to accept miui launcher and miui preferences
hes crazy smart and at the time it looked like no aosp miui would really be functional on the fascinate...eventually once jt1134 got cm7 going, andmer took on porting aosp miui to the fasc and up until recently maintained it
even seeing exactly what he was doing at the time made my head spin, lol...i doubt i could replicate it on my own

That makes me think, I wonder if (since I've heard TW is a pita) you could do the same thing with MIUI and sense. So you could still have a lot of the sense aspects but also have the functionality of MIUI similar to your senseless ROM.

This seems like it would be too much of a hassle when you could just as easily install all of the apps the GO Team has to offer and make it look like you have a full GO ROM.
You could always flash MIUI. IMO it's pretty close to the GO with the right theme settings.

It still wouldn't be the same. I'm talking have something fully themeable like MIUI or cyanogenmod but everything is go instead of whatever is stock in the ROM. I guess, yeah you could do it by downloading it all, but it'd be kooler to see more integration.
Oh, btw nitsuj, I messaged andmer about the MIUI/Sense hybrid. I told him I'd be willing to test if he felt like even fooling with it.

Is this your first time using CM? It's the most barebones rom you can get, there won't be any extra software installed like on other roms. It's basically just the core files needed for the phone to operate plus some tweaks & customization options, so you'll have to manually add things like Swype and Driving mode. This is what *I* love about CM though, it's almost like a 'build your own rom' deal.
I'll stick with TW based roms, might try out MIUI. Using the stock android camera, calendar...no thanks. The TW roms are just as fast. I noticed nothing working faster running the CM7 build which is the usual want from everyone at the expense of good looking and more features(not tweaks).
I just flashed CM9 on my Nexus S, it's meh.

If you want as good as it gets Stock Rom, Try RCMix. Comes Super Stock Look, feel, & has the options to change small tweeks for personalized function like a battery percentage, the ability to turn on features like 3d effects, etc.
It also has awesome support by development, &other users.
Don't settle untill you've tryed the RCMix Rom.
I forgot, you wont see it on the front page, so here it is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1261721 or use rom manager to download a rom & find it in there under RCTeam RCMix. The Newest Version is in apparently in the finishing testing stages & should be available soon. These roms are released with minimal issues due to the extensive testing by the devs.

+1 for Cyanogenmod
Why don't use it and just use any launcher you like?
I recently just started doing a bit with my GN. I currently have rooted and installed Revolutions HD 2.1.2 and messed around with some soft key/notification bar mods, but my main goal is to make my phone look far from stock ICS.
-What can I do to gain larger icons, similar to that of the iPhone =/. I like many of the icon packs, but I would just like to be able to re-size them. Does this have to do specifically with the ROM, or with themes?
- Some examples I have seen have been on the Android Themes forums, and MIUI.
- Any help would be appreciated, I've been poking around searching google and the forum for a bit but I haven't seen questions like these answered clearly.

Once Cyanogenmod 9 comes out there are hundreds of CM themes that will make it look FAR from stock ICS.
Also you can try using an alternate launcher, like GoLauncher EX, ad using a theme for GoLauncher, like a HTC Sense theme
