Chomp updated their texting app on Feb 19th to fix the force closing when trying to send a MMS if you are using Jelly Bean. Handcent and GoSMS still haven't figured out how to fix it so if you don't like the stock messaging app install Chomp.
One of my favorite features other then actually being able to send a text to Contact Groups I set up it delayed sending, for those times when you accidentily replied to someone. Set the delay for a second or two and it gives you time to hit stop if you realize you really didn't want to say that or send that to someone.

So, I did the GPS fix on June 21st with the ##code# and the msl code. After that, my parents said they sent a text, but I haven't gotten it. Most people use my google voice number, but a few have the old sprint number.
Anyway, I can send a text. I just don't receive a text message. I booted in a march cm6 backup and couldn't get text messsages that way either. Could send, just not receive. I can make and receive calls, and voicemails go to my google voice number.
I have a stock sense backup from december that I can boot into, but am getting tired of rebooting.
Any suggestions. Open for just about anything.
I decided to do a 786 reset, and it cannot update my profile. I am hoping that is because i have a triangle above my wireless signal. Kinda out in bfe as of right now.
My messages will randomly go to google voice instead of messages. That could be a problem as well.

I had this problem yesterday after a fresh flash of CM7.1, and stumbled upon the answer. I wasn't receiving text messages in Messaging OR Handcent SMS - and I have my sprint number ported over to Google Voice. I went over to the Voice app and went to Settings>Sync and Notifications and made sure that Text Message Notification was selected. When I did, the SMS messages going to GV went to my messaging apps too.
Conversely, you could just use GV as your messaging app...

This works like a charm. I am going to post this link in a couple of other places where people are running down CM. Double Thanks!
I installed Synergy today, so far everything except SMS seems to be working. My only issue is that Messaging FCs. I prefer Handcent SMS which does launch, but if I try to send a SMS it will also FC.
I can receive SMS and replying in the pop-up notification is working... I just can not initiate a new SMS.
Synopsis:
Stock Messaging app will not launch.
Handcent SMS launches but FCs when trying to initiate new SMS message.
Handcent can receive and reply in the pop-up notification.
I see past SMS issues on the Synergy thread, but none match my issue.
Thank you for your time.

Fixed
I reflashed the ROM. I did a double factory reset prior to installing... wiped cache/davlik before and after installing.
Everything seems to work now.
Thanks for the friendly response!
I instaled RC8.1 few days ago and I for me everything works perfect but i notice that when typing long SMS messages instead of merging them in 2/3/.../6 sms messages it makes it a MMS after 160 characters. I looked in settings for a solution but i couldn't find it, is there any way to change that or I will have to separate messages manualy?
Also some times it just keep "sending" message.
with this release my phone sometimes don't receive all the messages......someone else have this problem?
I think I received all messages, but some of them wouldn't send it just say sending and leave it that way...
As far as I remember, since first release of CM10.1 long messages are converted to MMS by default, and there's no option to change it to multiple SMS
See in mms settings. Or just install other sms app (slide messaging shoud do the trick) and change there. This will fix the problem.

Thanks, I will check that app later
Thx, i'll try that
Btw any news about not sending some messages?
I'm going to start off with some background information. I have been using the SMS app Handcent for a little while now, and it has been giving me a lot of trouble with MMS messages with them not sending nor receiving, whereas the stock messaging app could receive them.
Alright, and now we are into where I screwed up... I read that if you made the stock messaging app a user app and handcent a system app, then the permissions will correct and I would be able to send/receive the MMS messages. However, when I made the stock messaging app a user app, it deleted itself. I figured it wouldn't be so bad after I got handcent to work, but handcent still doesn't receive/send MMS messages, and I have no way of sending/receiving them because the stock messaging app got deleted. So, I was wondering if there was a way to get back my stock messaging app for Android 4.1.2. If anyone could help me fix the handcent thing as well, that would also be greatly appreciated.
Thanks ahead of time!
With no changes made to my AT&T Note 4, Textra started throwing this error up in the notification window:
Can't Get MMS
Check Textra>MMS>APN
In a group message, photos were being shared by 4 different people. The Textra icon shows that there are 68 unread messages, which I know can't be true. When I bring up the group thread, only a couple of the text messages are being shown. And I cannot get it to stop showing that there are new messages. I've used Textra for a couple years now and have never had any kind of problem. Searching the interwebs gave me no answers.
In Textra, the Carrier send limit is set to 600KB.
MMS Behavior is set to "Legacy".
Manually configure APN is set to off.
Stagefright protection is set to on.
I fI turn on the "manually configure APN'" toggle, these are the settings:
MMSC
http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
MMS Proxy
proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS Proxy Port
80
I have never changed any of these settings. I rebooted the phone twice with no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

Almost sounds like carrier issue to me. Otherwise I recommend uninstall Textra and make the default messages app the stock text app. Test that.
I uninstalled Textra and am back to the Samsung messaging app. All seems good. Although, I think that there are several pictures that never made their way to me from that group thread. Very odd. I have never had a problem like that before.
I get this issue like every other month. I really hate how much AT&T has ****ed this phone. Only stock apps seem to not have issues any other apps **** up constantly.
I have this exact same issue on an HTC 10 with AT&T. It only seems to happen after I get sent a MMS(mostly from my wife, who is also on AT&T, but that is where the vast majority of my texts come from) . If she resends the exact same photo a little later it will usually go through. I have the most current version of Textra(per the play store) and have the APN settings manually configured to the correct settings. This issue only happens to me once a week or so but it is driving me nuts. Rebooting doesn't seem to have an effect and it seems to stop incrementing the unread message count after awhile. It almost seems like AT&T is attemping to send an undeliverable MMS that gets stuck in an outgoing queue(until it eventually times out), and every resend attempt increments the Textra unread message count and kicks out a Textra MMS APN error message. Perhaps Textra says "Hey, we have a new unread message" when it first begins to receive the data, rather than after successfully receiving it? I dunno what is going on with it. Meanwhile, my stock messaging app doesn't see or do anything, it is oblivious. If anyone figures out how to fix it or what is really going on with it, please let us know. I think this is more carrier or textra related, as opposed to device specific.
Do you have an ad-blocker installed?
I thought I was the only one - I am also (currently) having this issue with Textra on AT&T (OnePlus 3). Has anyone figured out a fix? I love the app but that error message is incredibly annoying ... not to mention the fact that it pisses me off when I am missing pictures people are sending to me.
Contact the developer. I had a problem with Textra once (different issue) and they were prompt with suggestions for a for fix with the problems I was having.
I tried all kinds of messaging app on my Note 4: Textra, Google Messenger, Hangout, etc. They all didn't receive MMS at all and needed to revert back to the stock message app. It's funny though since I have no problem receiving MMS through Textra in my Axon Pro 7
