Hello again guys, I installed LuPuS v8 JB Kernel on my phone (I had 4.0.2.A.0.58 Enhanced Firmware (Gingerbread) installed) then I went to CWM to flash the .zip with the wifi modules and G.Apps but when I rebooted I got a bootloop. what I have to do to correctly install it? Please guide me since I'm kinda newbie to this of unlocked bootloaders and kernels :/ (I'm trying to install PACman rom and followed the FAQ guide but...)
EDIT: Forgot to add, my PLAY is an r800a(i) GSM btw, I have to take off the SDcard to enter to the Kernel menu, idk if this is normal

After you flash the Rom reboot the phone and just let it fully boot. After that you can go back to CWM and flash the WiFi modules and other add-ons
You need to boot into the kernel's recovery and set it to jb mode or ics depending on your rom. Then make sure your rom and gapps don't exceed the system partition size, which it most likely did if you flashed the full gapps package as well.
The default recovery for the lupus jb kernel is TWRP, if you load into another CWM recovery it most likely did not flash to the correct partition arrangement that lupus kernel use therefore the rom can't boot.

Sounds like you didn't wipe data
So go into cwm and wipe cache, data, delvick and try rebooting then

These are the steps I did
1.- Flash the 4.0.2.A.0.58 Enhanced (2.3.4 firmware)
2.- Flash the LuPuSv8 JB Kernel via flashtools
3.- Take out the SDcard (I can't access to kernel menu without taking it out)
4.- Access Kernel menu then go into recovery mode
5.- Wipe data/cache/davlik
6.- Flash p.a.c.man jb
7.- Reboot
And then it bootloops and stays like that (i left it alone and it stayed like that for about 20 or 30 minutes)
I also wiped data/cache and davlik after flashing the rom, but got the same results, maybe I need a vendor unlocked firmware like in Turbo Kernel? I will try that...
Edit: Flashed the vendor unlocked firmware then wiped cache and data then installed the PACman rom but got bootloop again, maybe I should try with another kernel...

Do as above but after step 5 you need to go to mounts & storage and format Data/Cache & System (IMPORTANT DO NOT FORMAT ANYTHING ELSE):good:
Then flash p.a.c.man JB

I flashed the FTF with unlocked partitions played with the phone for about 30 secs, then flashed kernel, went to kernel menu then formated system, data, cache and davlik via CWM then flashed the rom, but that ended in bootloop, did the same with turbo kernel and it worked.

My friend is currently running Arconium ICS on his Xperia, and now when I tried to install CM9 (Did full wipe > install CM > install gapps in CWM) it just gets stuck at the boot logo (SONY). After recovering the backup of Arconium in CWM it boots up fine again.
Since the boot logo didn't change, I'm thinking CM9 maybe didn't install a new kernel or something? Is there something I can do to make sure that CM9 fits as well as possible? If kernel switching is on the table I'd like to be able to do this from CWM.
Thank you!

Do I have to do this via flashtool? No way to do it from inside CWM? Please excuse if this is a stupid question, I'm not still a 100 % sure what boot.img, recovery, kernel and all these are and how they fit together.

Yes, through the FlashTool is safer.
For all your doubts see this link, is a little extended but very complete.

Boot.img is the kernel in a compiled file, which needs to be installed via fastboot. Flashtool includes fastboot aswell, so you can install the kernel(boot.img) using it.
Recovery is a certain 'program' used to install custom stuff, make full backups(Nandroid backup) and restore them, wipe/format partitions and some other stuff. Recovery can be included already inside the kernel, but there is also possibility to install it on /system partition for those who can't unlock bootloader and/or install custom kernel.
My recommendation - Don't do it if you don't understand anything. You should go and learn about the whole Android first, get yourself familiar with how to recover the phone(install stock firmware etc), what are the terms that we use, what is what etc, then come back. Else...you might get yourself a nice (temporary) brick and then you have another problem, how to get back the phone.

Obviously you didnt flash the kernel..and before doing that u need to make sure if ur bootloader is unlocked..if it is unlocked then only you can proceed with flashing the kernel and then installing the ROM.

Hi,
Hopefully someone can help. First off, when I try to unlock bootloader, It says it's unlocked. I can root my phone through flashtools with no problems also. I tried the ICS and JB roms with a lupus kernel as described on Youtube. I follows the instructions to a T and when I install the rom from the sd card, it never installs,...well it does install as in it goes through the installation procedure. It just reboots to the recovery mode after the installion instead of the rom etc to ( the lupus or doomlord recov mode depending on the rom). I have tried different roms and downgraded to ginger 2.3.2 ( I am currently on 2.3.4) but there is no change. Any help would be great thanks ...

Hi,
I bought the phone second hand. When I tried to unlock bootloader, it says its unlocked already...must have been done by previous owner
Did you follow all the instructions for instlling a ROM???
1. Factory reset
2. Format-wipe /cache (it says formattting /cache when doing factory reset, but do it anyway)
3. Format /system (its on mounts and storage menu)
4. Wipe dalvik cache (its on advanced menu)
5. Fix battery/wipe battery stats. This depends on the recovery, but is the same thing...
6. Fix permissions. I think this is what you are doing wrong of missed out.
Btw, if you can enter fastboot mode and flash custom kernels, you have unolocked bootloader

have you checked what kernel you have flashed? lupus kernel has 3 different versions one solely made for gingerbread and for ICS which is now very updated to work on any stock based ICS rom he also has a CM10 based rom which will work on any CM based roms as well as. have checked the roms recommended kernel to use?
Guys i really need help, I'm using an xperia play and i had just unlocked the bootloader and then flashed a the trueancestors ics rom and the LuPuS_zeus_Stock-gB+iCsv7-full kernel. Now it turns out that i didnt like the rom so i put it back to stock, still with the lupus kernel. Everything was working however i wanted to have the doomkernel v14. So i flashed the doomkernel and it was working however the wifi had erroros so i changed back to the lupus kernel. Again everything was working fine now. I then found out how to fix the wifi problem on doomkernelv14 so refrlashed that kernel. Before i reflashed the kernel i deleted the trueancestors isc rom as i didnt like it so i thought it would be ok. After the flash i tried to reboot the device, and it was stuck on the bootloader for doomkernel, not in a bootloop just stuck at doomkernel bootloader. I tried to fix this by going to recovery (clockwork mod) and then did a factory reset, wiped the cache and data and the dalvik cache as i saw these online for instructions on how to fix this problem. Still i had the same problem, stuck at bootloader. So i tried somthing different and reinstalled the trueancestors ics rom, and tried to reboot the xperia play, again stuck at bootloader. Im sorry if this was a bit long but I AM LITTRALLY BEGGING FOR SOME HELP! Please make a suggestion as to how i can fix this ASAP. Can it be fixed?Thank you for you Advice it is very much aprecciated. Ive posted this somewhere else in which i couldnt find but i really need help on this, please can anyone help. :crying:

When switching kernels with different partition layout you have to delete data and system partition in fastboot mode.
I'm lazy to type again so here is a link where it is explained already:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849536&page=100
You can prevent future problems by wiping data and system partittion from CWM and THEN flash new kernel that have different partittion layout

I havent tried this yet, becuase i need my dad to allow flash tool to work (Parental controls ffs -.-") however i saw the thread and i saw this part saying enter these commands "fastboot erase userdata and fastboot erase system i undestand how to get the command thing open but how do u enter these in, and what i mean is do you just open the command thing and just paste these in or do u have to right click somthing open comand promt here and all the stuff then enter them? Also these steps u listed, everything is fine its just my lack off knowladge for some of these things which i do apologize for
" Fully working steps, that is 100% working:
1.flash ftf with unlocked vendor partition (.62 or .79)
2.flash lupus gb kernel
3.erase system and data from fastboot
4.enter recovery and flash your rom "
Where do you get the unlocked vender partition, and which one is better .62 or .79 and if u could send me a link as your helping me i think ur choice of links for this is more reliable than mine, and again this is greatly appreciated.
" Fully working steps, that is 100% working:
1.flash ftf with unlocked vendor partition (.62 or .79)
2.flash lupus gb kernel
Download file name R800i_4.0.2.A.0.79.ftf from Xperia Play Index - ROM'S, FIRMWARE, KERNEL'S, GUIDE'S, THEMES, MOD'S second post have firmware files
Guide how to use flashtool you can find at [GUIDE][18th Dec][4Noobs] Flashing A FTF File Using Flashtool
Flashing .79 or .62 firmware is necessary if you are planning to use lupus gb or icd/gb kernel - and you only need to do it once.
Flashing kernel is same, but when pressed on lighting icon, choose "fastboot"
3.erase system and data from fastboot
Ok, i made a zip for you. Download it from attachment, unpack to anywhere you like and double-click file named "start". Power off phone, press search and while keeping it pressed, plug in usb. I don't think you need admin rights for that, but:
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ROM PLACED ON YOUR SD CARD! Just in case, because that program will erase everything from your phone.
You should be able to enter recovery and/or flash your rom/restore your backup.
4.enter recovery and flash your rom "
Also, read some sticky threads, they are there for a reason
Again im really sorry to bother you with this, but what if i dont want to flash the rom, becuase i didnt like it in the first place so i went back to stock, however this method of returning to stock was to flash the R800i_4.0.2.A.0.62_(1253-4437).ftf file. Now what it did was return it to stock rom (AFTER i tried the rom i didnt like) and unrooted the phone, i dont know if it returns the phone to stock firmware, and if the method of the system data wipe thing with the command prompt deleted everything, what can i flash? Little more explaination as to why im asking. Before this boot stuck thing hapenned i had used that same ftf file to return it to stock and unrooted. I re-rooted the phone and then flashed the lupus kernel. Everything was fine. I wanted to flash the doomkernel because like a dum nut i wanted to show off that i could overclock to 2ghz ( if i wanted to) as if alrdy stated before and did so. I think you can only flash zip files from your SD card so the ftf file wont be able to be flashed while on the device. So what do i flash? Should i just flash the rom i dont like and try return it to stock, then flash the ftf .79 firmware again after re-rooting the phone, then flash the doomkernelv14. In short i want to stay with the normal gingerbread 2.3.4 with doomkernelv14. Again i havent tried this yet and also sorry for these long rambly posts, i just want to give you as much info as possible in order for you to help me. Thank you so much for your solution btw much appriciated.:good:
And almost forgot i also want it back to rooted but i can do that myself, i just thought i'd specifiy it just incase its worth anything.

Yes, if you wipe data and system then EVERYTHING is deleted. All your apps (data) and even android OS itself (system). You'll have to either flash new rom or restore backup after wiping system
Doomkernel need wifi modules to be installed from CWM recovery to have working wifi
I'll attach it
Im wondering about my battery life, because it seems to be draining faster. Im using no frills cpu with the lupus kernel alowing me to overclock to 1.6 ghz. I set my higest on 1613 mhz and lowest on 249mhz using the smartassv2 governer. any idea to whats going on ?
ok...i screw up my xperia play... dunno what to do.
hi guys, been a noob after i fed up with my xperia x8 now i having a xperia play f or 2 years and try to install a custom kernel and roms but i end up brick my phone. it just stuck at logo "xperia free play". it still can enter cwm recovery mode but when i use the method press the arrow thing then plug in the usb cable to pc , it seems my pc did detect my phone but cant show up my memory card in 'my computer' window. The i try to use fastboot & flashtool both can detect my phone after plug in. Here is what i do before brick:
first thing i did on my phone was to upgrade the stock kernel 4.0.2.a.0.42, then i unlock the bootloader, root it, and start download the custom rom without download the requirement kernel. after that, i install CWM using fast boot, put the custom rom to sd card, wipe user data, bla bla bla, then install the custom rom, the next thing i see is the problem i talking about earlier. So i try to using the service update from SCE but it just say im using a modified kernel hence i unable recover it using that method. so, i try to use flash tool x10 (i cant get any working download it keep saying error 404 link, this is the best i have now) when i press the flash it come out red words with error usb ...the thing is my phone cant get detected by my computer.... What to do or it is over? (p/s : i download the flash tool & adb package winrar file & the custom rom i mention is close 2 perfection)
I know is a bit long but I really need help on my phone, i still have a x8 here from my mom and mine is xperia play brick for 3 days now i still cant find a way to solve it. PLEASE HELLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPP. THANK YOU FOR THOSE RESPONSE~!

I just erased the user data and system with ur zip from before and flashed aurora play with lupus v12.5 kernel It worked like everything else. i got more curious so i did the same thing erased user and system data then flashed gin2jellybean with the same kernel.( i followed ur intructions from before on how to flash roms n stuff) Everything worked again. I wanted a new kernel so i flashed extreme kernel r3. phone got stuck in a bootloop. So i erased user data and system data, then flashed and ftf stock rom and then flashed extreme kernel r3. everything was working. I went into titanium backup and uninstalled some system apps and accidently deleted the one that let you see the running services to see available ram. So i cleared data and and system data reflashed ftf stock rom in flashmode ofc, and extreme kernel in fastboot. I got a bootloop, so i tried all the different kernels that i could and i cant get into the menu for recovery. Can you please help me once again, i'll thank every post.

For most part, you are doing it right, but, to solve problem with recovery, you should use "eraser" AFTER you change kernel

Naturaly, it will drain more battery BECAUSE it's overclocked.

I think you should repeat the fastboot process once again, so:
fastboot erase userdata
and fastboot erase system
then just flash the kernel you prefer.
I had exactly the same problem with my play bootlooping after flashing some kernels. and this solved the problem for me :victory:
sorry for my bad English, :crying:
I've been trying for the past two days to flash CM9 (cm-9.1.0-anzu) on my Arc S (LT18i), but with no success, as each time I try to install it through Recovery mode (which I installed using RecoverX, as xparts and CWM Rom Manager don't seem to work) I run into the Status 7 error.
I read all I could here about this error 7, but nothing seems to work to me (reinstalling this or that kernel, et cetera). And each time I have to flash the original ftf for the stock GB (lt18i_62.ftf). My bootloader is unlocked.
This is basically my procedure, and obviously something must be dead wrong with it:
1) After some failed attempt, I flash the stock ROM back via Flashtool.
>Now I'm on this setup:
Android: 2.3.4;
Kernel: 2.6.32.9-perf [email protected] # 1
Build: 4.0.2.A.0.62
2) I root succesfully via ERoot.
3) I install CWM through RecoverX.
4) I boot it to recovery, wipe data, cache, delvik, etc, and attempt to flash any custom rom (I've tried CM9, CM7 and some "PAC_iyokan_JB_4.1.2-v19.3.0"), all of which give me the Status 7 error.
What gives? Should I be flashing a specific kernel somewhere or something?
Thanks in advance.
Don't wipe /system, this causes the issue, as CM builds are made to check, that the correct firmware is being installed the phone (not the wrong phone model ROM).
Also, CM9 requires custom kernel, so instead of rooting and installing recovery, flash the custom kernel and use it's built-in recovery.
Which wipes should I do, then? None? I'm not sure which wipe wipes /system.
Which custom kernel is that? Surely not the boot.img included in cm-9.1.0-anzu.zip, right?
And this custom kernel, should I flash it using flashmode or fastboot mode?

Wipes - Same as earlier, but do not choose format /system.
boot.img is the custom kernel file. And it can only be installed in fastboot mode.

I don't think I was wiping /system (I'm not even sure how that is done), but installing the custom kernel and then installing CM through its own recovery did the trick, thanks a lot!
Though CM9 is pretty old, so I now itch to try CM10... Is this procedure (installing the boot.img kernel, running its recovery, flashing ROM+gapps) the same for all CM ROMs, or all LT18i ROMs, for that matter?
Thanks again!

Yes it's pretty much the same... And always use the kernel inside zip...

Hi, I've been having some problems with my Xperia Play getting stuck in a boot loop after flashing anything, or restoring a backup in CWM. This includes mods, like Adrenoboost, and the NXT Lockscreen, to themes. I have the Xperia Play R800x with an unlocked bootloader (via unlock code from Sony) and I'm using stock 2.3.3 Gingerbread, with the stock Kernel. I boot CWM by hotBooting LuPuS with Fastboot. I'm not really sure what to do because I really want to install these mods, and because restoring my nandroid backups also gets it stuck in a bootloop, I have to reflash the stock .ftf with FlashTool and reroot it every time.

Hi. Not all mods are 100% compatible with stock ROM so you should use a custom one. Many custom ROMs are better than the stock one.

My only problem is, when I flash other ROMs they don't work, unless I also flash a custom Kernel. Anytime I flash a custom kernel, WiFi never connects, even if I flash the WiFi modules. It gets stuck at Obtaining IP Address, then stops.

There's are some Gingerbread based roms that work also with the stock kernel and won't give you any problem with wifi (personal experience).
Try the gbx_play v3-rebuild here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1897634
Or the Gin2kitkat here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631144
Try to flash one of these and let us know
Remember that before you flash a ROM you MUST make a wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache and wipe Dalvik Cache (in advanced options).

I do wipe the data and cache. I know how to install ROMs, I've done it with TWRP on my Kindle Fire, but I get stuck in a boot loop every time. I'll try these ROMs and see how they go.

I did a Factory Reset on CWM, then flashed Gin2KitKat, and wiped the cache and dalvik cache and it's stuck on the Android boot animation. It's been sitting there for like 10 minutes or so now. Flashtool does recognize it though.

It worked fine as soon as I hotBooted it with LuPus. I'm gonna try installing the other ROM I wanted and hotBooting LuPus
Strange, I have the opposite problem: lupus doesn't boot any ROM for me, excepting ICs ones.
In fact, to install a GB ROM I always have to flash first the stock rom and fw, and then flash the ROM with a custom recovery. Anyway by "hot booting" you mean custom recovery right?

No, what I'm doing is using Fastboot to boot the phone with the kernel, without flashing it, to test it out. As soon as you shut the phone off, and turn it back on, it boots with whatever kernel is flashed on it

That's what I mean with custom recovery  (don't confuse with custom kernel).
When I had stock kernel I would boot LuPuS just for CWM, but I'll hotboot kernels to see how well they run

So here's what you need to do, since you want stock and and fastbootalot for recoveries y don't you download xperia play clockwork mod app? It's version 4 or something like that don't use xparts it don't work with our Verizon plays since you have root this will install recovery for you to flash Roms mods etc
I'll edit later with a link to the thread that has the clockwork mod app install that MAKE A NANDROID before you flash anything it helps worse case you hotboot lupus to restore your nandroid you have then reboot and guess what stock 2.3.3 Rom and kernel

No I got everything to work fine. I have LuPuS flashed on, and I'm using the xElite Gamer ROM with no problem.
