I am currently running Calk's rom 2.5 that was "based off EL13 build." My kernel version in about phone says: "2.6.35.7-SPH-D710.EL13-CL806482. and build is "Calkulin's E4GT Rom v2.5."
But my Baseband version says S:d710.10 S.EG30. Am I able to upgrade my baseband version to EL13 or does Calk's rom already do that for me?
Thanks in advance for any help

You can flash the EL13 modem in CWM using the appropriate CWM MDM link in my signature.
I am in a similar situation. I currently have:
Android 2.3.4
Baseband: S710.10 S.EG30
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-SPH-D710.EG30-CL435734
ROM: midNIGHT ROM v2.2 NOCIQ ET4G
I want to install this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1332837
How would I go about doing this? I know how to use ODIN to flash stuff, also know how to use Clockwork to flash from phone, but I'm a newbie in this area and I don't want to brick my phone.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Just use CWM and flash the ROM. It'll install the ROM and the kernel. You can flash your radio at a later point from CWM also.
On the thread of the ROM I want, it says:
"Important Notes - Due to how this ROM is setup, a wipe is recommended BEFORE flashing if coming from another ROM(use FORMAT ALL attached)"
Does this mean that before installing the ROM I need to format the whole phone (minus the SD card)?
Thank you for your help!

The Modem, Kernel, and ROM are separate entities. This thread started off talking about modems, but now you are switching to talking about a ROM. Just wanted to clarify that in case things are getting mixed up.
If the ROM says you need to FORMAT all, that usually means if you are coming from a different ROM, you should do that. If you are upgrading from one version of that ROM to another, usually you won't need to format all, but sometimes you might. Ask your question on the ROM-specific discussion thread.
Thank you for your help. I tried to post on the ROM post but I couldn't due to being a passive user and the Development forums requiring a certain number of posts.
I backed up EVERYTHING with MyBackup Pro just now and I will format ALL, format cache, dalvik-cache, anything that says "erase" on CWM I will do ... and I'll report back with how it all went.
Thank you again for your helpful post.
Hey guys. New guy here to rooting. Thanks to sfhub my first attempt was a success.
This is my current set up.
android 2.3.6
baseband s:d710s.ek02
kernel 2.6.35.7-sph-d710.ek02-cl704398
Rom New Senzation v1.7.
I also want to run Caulks' rom but I am not sure if I can on the ek02 modem. Would I have to flash to el13 to be able to use this rom?
Sorry if the terminologies are wrong still trying to get used to and understand all of this.

Even though theoretically it is best to keep the Modem, Kernel, and ROM matched since they were tested together, in practice folks haven't had issues with mix and matching. Now with CWM flashable FULL modems for EG30/EG31/EK02/EL13, it is very easy to switch after the ROM flash. Just make sure your kernel is based off the newer EK02/EL13 to flash the FULL modems.

What do you want to revert? Modem, Kernel, ROM, or all three?
If all three, the easiest is to use the EG30 ODIN tar in my signature then apply the EK02 update immediately afterwards.
Thanks to Calkulin for use of the install script. Thanks to Chainfire for SuperSU.
I apologize to the early adopters that ran into the boot issue. Thanks to drothenberger for pointing out the bootloader problem. And thanks to the brave people who tested the new version.
Flash this to get Deodexed/Odexed stock UCALH9 with latest root (SuperSU), su binary and Busybox 1.20. These include aboot, sbl2, sbl3, rpm and tz. The zips Do Not include a kernel, recovery or modem.
There is a version for no data wipe and data wipe. Make sure you don't get them mixed up. The data wipe options do not delete the media folder which is were /sdcard is mapped for pictures, music etc...
All of the zips wipe cache and dalvik for you so no need to do that separately.
I am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone. You do this at your own risk.

I am assuming that kernel is a JB kernel. If it is then you will want to replace it with a TW ICS kernel. If it is a TW ICS kernel then you are good to go.

I made a similar zip in my thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31802808) in the general category and somewhere there tried to come from LH1 and had the same problem. That person did not flash the LH9 bootloader. To test, I flashed the full LH1 one click, then installed all the LH9 zips (bootloader, kernel, modem, and ROM) and it worked fine for me.
You might want to try flashing the LH9 bootloader.

No, UCALH9 is a small update to the last ICS release. We don't have any official AT&T Jellybean love yet.

Right. And I broke my screen this morning so I am having some horrible luck. I am uploading a new version and would like someone to test it for me. If you are willling please test it and let me know the results. It is best if you are on full LG1 as we know that was a problem area. I will put a link here once it is done uploading.

Holy Crap I''m confused!! (only had my Note 2 for a few days; coming from many years with HTC)
I currently have this ANNOYING System update pop-up that won't go away. I am assuming it's this MA7 update? Which I'm also assuming it's a Radio update? Can someone please confirm this?
I am currently rooted with the stock Rom (Android 4.1.1)
I used Galaxy_Note2_Toolkit_v3.0.0 to achieve this.
I have TWRP as my recovery and I have Baseband version: L900VPALJC
1) Is this annoying pop-up that I am getting MA7?
2) What exactly is this MA7 update?
3) What will happen if I proceed to install this update from the pop-up window? Will it fail, lose my root or brick phone?
3) Is it true you cannot flash OTA updates unless I have stock recovery and unrooted? If so, why is that? That means that I have to go thru the whole rooting method every time there is an update?
I'd like to continue using stock ROM or Touchwiz and not any of the AOSP ROMS. 1st I need to know all the ins/out of the stock ROM so that I can compare what I'll be missing if I chose to use AOSP. (like a bunch of S-Pen features... that's all I know as of now)
Any help with these questions will be extremely appreciated. Or if you can point me to where I can catch up with all these terminologies and procedures? I've only had experience with the HTC Evo line (all of them) and things are done waaaay different. This having to go back to stock, back and forth is all new to me. On HTC, once you were nand unlocked, S-OFF and rooted... that's all she wrote. You didn't have to do it over & over. That's where I'm confused.
I am planning on a solution for me that might work for you.
Grabbed this sweet looking Rom, and giving it a flash pretty soon.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2151676
I think that would solve your pop up issue while staying with TW.
Evo's sure were streamlined with my understanding, the whole modem thing still throws me off.
You can only receive OTA updates if you have the stock recovery. It's no big deal - updates are always posted here for download and flashing, or you can always flash the LJC Factory Restore zip and get the OTA if it means a lot to you. This is no different than HTC (which has a ****ty bootloader to begin with). Don't panic because a few proprietary conventions differ between the brands; it's all still Android.

You got it. Just download the modem and kernel from rwilco12's repository and flash them in recovery. You'll upgrade your device to the latest baseband (MA7) and stock kernel. Personally, I recommend Perseus over the stock kernel, but that's me. Your ROM stays in tact.

I just came from rwilco's thread and he clearly wrote in red, bold letters:
To flash this your phone must be on 100% stock LJC and unrooted. It can only be flashed through Stock Recovery.

Even tho it says LJC to MA7, you do not need to be on LJC to flash it. I it works fine and will upgrade your modem, nvram, and other firmware pieces.

So the last two ROMs I switched to (Goodness) and (People's) basically instructed to "Get latest baseband and firmware here". I flashed it after the rom's were completed installing (using CWM).
I can't help but say the signal stinks now and won't connect at time. I can't send out sms from time to time as well. Sometime it shows that I have a good signal but i can't connect to any sites/apps.
Is this something I did wrong? Is there a fix?

***Note: Though it doesn't have to be at the root of the card, this zip should be placed somewhere on your internal SD card (aka /sdcard) as well otherwise it may not see the modem.backup file.***
If everything works, you'll see a progress bar during the flashing process. Don't see a progress bar? Then the radio hasn't been flashed."
So I should flash the LF9 radio? is there a reason for that particular radio? Sorry i'm just a bit lost with all of this. Thanks

Lost Root
I found that I somehow lost my root. I have several root zip files on my device, so I went in to recovery and attempted to flash one of them to gain root. two of the three failed (flash aborted). The third was successful, and I now have superuser in the app drawer. When I open Titanium backup it displays the text "asking for root rights" but it just hangs there.
Here's what I'm wanting to do... perform a complete wipe of the phone and start over, do I odin back to stock and re-root? I want to be able to flash SlimBean 4.3 with minimal slim gapps. So my question is what method do I use to get there, which recovery do I use?
Thanks ahead for any help you can offer.

Use Odin to flash to stock 4.1.2 UVMC6.
To flash a 4.3 ROM you will need the newest CWM or TWRP 2.6.1.0 and newer.
Odin flashable TWRP can be found here

2.6.1.0 is the version I recommend.

Odin flash this file that mikeyman made to make sure you have the newest firmware:

After that, you can flash your ROM and gapps. No need to root first.
