[Q] Upgrade troubles - HTC One X

Hi all,
Last year I took my stock One X and upgraded it to JB 4.1, an AOSP. I made a Nandroid backup first. Now that new phones are being released I am wondering whether to upgrade to 4.2.2 or revert to stock so it's easier to sell. I read about how once you go to 4.2 it gets more tricky so I thought 'fine, back to stock I go'. I used the Nandroid backup to get back to stock and all is fine, seemingly. I'm exactly where I was 8 months ago or so. However my phone tells me that there are updates for me, I should install them, but when I try it just seems to boot into Clockworkmod with an error. I'm sure i'm doing something very silly and easily remedied but if someone could let me know what that is i'd be forever grateful.
For reference the exact error is...
Finding update package...
E:unknown volume for path (INTERNALSDCARDownload/OTAENDEAVOR_U_ICA_40_S_Vodafone_UK_2.17.161.4-1.29.161.13_release_280431g20q1d0c8sg0f1qb.zip
Installation aborted"
Many thanks!

Flash stock recovery to update.
Sent from something that's BETTER THAN YOURS

Thank you. I had flashed the recovery that was in my nandroid, but evidently it wasn't stock, so I found a new one. Thanks again.

Yeah a recovery from a nandroid is never a stock one, because the nandroid can only be made with a custom one, so it always backs up the custom one

Unless you use "fastboot boot customrecoveryblabla.img" then make a nandroid before you flash cm or twrp or am I wrong here?

Guess you could be right, its also done with testing kernels ...so why not the recovery !

When is best time to perform Backup Flash?

I have rooted, installed Amon Ra flash recovery, and currently using CM6.
I forgot to do the backup flash when I had my stock rom, so I went ahead and backed up the CM6. Is that okay?

uhhh well, if you didn't need you're old stock rom or ever wanted to flash back to it you needed to back that up aswell, im guessing you atleast backedup your data and apps using mybackuppro or titanum?
From my research so far...and I have yet to actually commit to first root...you could just load the rooted 1.47...set it up...and back up that.
But...if I have the terminology right (please experts chime in as it will help me too)...titanium or whatever only backs up stuff...not the rom.
Nandroid back up is everything....
Which did you do? If you back up all the apps and whatever settings with titanium or my backup...then you should be ok regardless of rom.
If you are talking nandroid backup....then CM6 is now your fall back for everything.
So...my plan is to do my first nandroid with rooted 1.47. (Well it is at this moment in time.)
ps...is it nand or nandroid...oh well.
I could always download the stock rom, flash it as my backup, and go from there... correct?

yes, that's an possible option.

But...remember difference between stock Rom and rooted stock Rom...at least that is what I am reading. If you want to keep root...use a rooted version of that stock Rom.
(I have seen one thread saying could be issues.)
ps...again more experienced please chime in.
if you want to be safe dl rooted stock rom, flash radio then wimax then rom, once thats done do a nandroid backup of that then a nandriod restore of cm6 presto all warm and fuzzy with backups.

This is correct you can always just re flash a rooted stock rom to get back to the ... rooted stock rom. since CM6 nightly is still a bit touch and go and probably not ready to be most peoples daily driver i would suggest doing this sooner rather then later so you have a fall back.

This isnt exactly true. It does not back up radios, hboot, recovery. This usually isnt a big deal unless you are switching between roms using 1.47 and the older radios.
What i personally do is keep a fall back nandroid (or nand both same) of the stock rom as well as one for each rom i tend to play with (right now i have a cm6, dc3.5, and dc 3.2.3) this way i can easily restore to the roms i am playing with (cm6 dc 3.5) or back to my daily driver (dc 3,2,3) with out having to much of an issue.

What if I didn't nandroid?

So I rooted awhile back using the long step by step method and unrevoked forever since I have a newer phone that requires that root method. In the process I didn't do a nandroid backup, but did backup my 4g keys, etc. Is the purpose of a nandroid backup just to have something to revert to in case a new rom fails? Would I be fine just doing a nandroid backup of my rooted and flashed phone, or is there a reason I should flash back to a stock rom and do a nandroid that way? Thanks for the help, just want to make sure I don't leave myself stranded one day.

Its just a backup to restore in case of a bad flash. If your current ROM is working, just make one now and tuck it away somewhere safe. You're good to go, no worries.

Ditto. As Long as you have a backup of a working ROM, you should be good to go. Luckily I haven't ever run into a situation where I needed it. Usually if I find something slightly wrong, I just switch ROMs. I need less of an excuse than that, actually.
A backup is very, very, very important!!!
Just recently, for example, my text messages were acting funky and so I decided a reboot might alleviate the issue, perhaps. Upon rebooting, I got stuck in a boot loop. Thankfully, had myself a backup to just restore real quick and get on with my life.
It needn't be of a stock image, just one that has no issues so that you can always go back should something occur. Usually, that's why people perform one immediately, since there are clearly no flash-related issues when you're on stock!
But, it would be fine to go ahead and perform one now. In fact, perform one now. That's an order!

Can´t restore nandroid backup

Hi there,
I encountered a weird issue.
I was using robocik´s Expresso HD ROM for CM7 hboot.
Yesterday I wanted to try the latest ReflexS ROM. So, I did a nandroid backup using AmonRa and installed it.
After some playing around I did a nandroid backup of that one, too and wanted to go back to my old Expresso ROM.
But after like one minute of restoring I got a failure message.
Don´t remember the exact text but it was something like "...perform [..] via adb".
I guess the backup was corrupt and wanted to restore the Reflex ROM which went fine until I had to reboot. The phone got stuck in the bootscreen (the why so serious one) and nothing happened.
So, I thought there was a problem with AmonRa (I wasn´t too convinced by this recovery anyway) and decided to go back to CWM and reinstall everything from the root.
Long story short: I can flash zips from sd card including ROMs and I am able to back them up. But I just can´t restore them.
Well, I can restore them but got stuck at the Why-so-serious screen.
Any hints on what I could do? (Besides staying with one ROM and not using nandroid again of course.)
Here is a how to for restoring(performing) nandroid backup via adb:

Thanks for this...but I already know how to do that.
I am looking for a solution on how to make my recovery-restore work again.
(Should have made that clearer.)
It really looks like AmonRa was a bit buggy. At least for me.
But I made a mistake. I changed to the latest CWM recovery instead of sticking to the older one that always worked for me.
Now that I am back to this one everything is working again.

Restoring stock nandroid taken from 1.29 Sense problem...

Guys please don't harangue me over the fact there is probably another topic out there. This works PC hasn't got Java enabled and search won't work...
OT: I've had my phone booted and rooted running AOKP IceColdJelly by the right honourable Lord Clockan but as dipstick here forgot to run SMS Backup before doing so I lost a whole tonne of messages I wanted to keep. However I had nandroided my stock rom and as I'm presuming those messages will have been saved as part of that process.
I decided while I am waiting for the next build of IceColdJelly to be released to try restore that nandroid and backup the messages ready to restore to IceColdJelly when I come to flash it again.
On restoring the nandroid this is where my problem lies I rebooted my handset but the phone failed to display the HTC One bootanimation and stuck at a blank screen after the HTC logo where it vibrates.
Have I missed a step? Is the problem due to a conflict somewhere?
I'd appreciate your help and thanks in advance to anyone offering anything constructive.

Did you flash the boot.img for your nandroid backup?
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
What did you have before the AOKP? if another rom, did you flash the boot.img that you have also in the nandroid?
Try to use the ARHD Super Wipe before restoring, but flash first the kernel thats used in ur nandroid.

No idea, but if you go to the directory of your backup, what files do you have there? Isnt one of them a boot.img? Btw I am not sure you can flash this . Never did.
But the stock kernel is here arround the forum. Search for user called Vladnosferatu and his threads.

You can mount your sdcard in CWM. There should be a folder called CWM or recovery or something similar on the sdcard. Copy the backup to your computer and extract the boot.img from there.
