I highly recommend this one, its called GREENIFY it stops persistent apps like Facebook MAPS and etc. which runs again on background even if you already killed it via ram cleaners..DL on MARKET or refer to the thread below for its detailed description and usage.

FYI: you need root permission to run it.

Hello natsu!
Why do you need to clear ram? I'm a little ceptic with that ram cleaners out there.
Ok, ram is full because there are app's, that to run and open fast, must have some services wake, otherwise you will say, damm my phone is realy slow... omg.. need to buy another one... :banghead:
Another view, the gaming side, if you want to play some heavy games in W, it's obvious, it only has 512MB ram, some allocated to kernel, the other part to android it self, so in that case you might want to clean some memory, dropping that services with task manager.
It depends on what you want to do with your W that defines if it is really necessary be always killing services and app's.
Btw greenify its good, but you have some more out there tht do the job in a simple way, like having a widget in home screen or something like that.
If you want to do it in a fortive way, flash some lighter ROM.

Cm6 much faster then mikifroyo?

I thought they'd be about the same but like when I click the app killer widget on Cm6 I got almost 280mb or whatever and on mikifroyo only 180mb

that's how much free memory you have available....You should not be using task killers on 2.2 froyo, it does not do anything...

Yes it does......................it drains your battery quicker!
How much memory is left is not = to how fast it runs. CM 6 also only has wimax in alpha, has no hdmi. It doesn't have sense. So of course it has more memory left.
as others have said the memory you are looking at is phone storage this is not the RAM type memory on a computer and it has no affect on your speed. The biggest reason for the difference is the lack of sense and htc widgets/apps. you can get similar memory amounts (though never as much) by removing rosie and htc widgets/bloatware from sense based roms.
CM can run faster then sense in many cases but the method you indicate is not a valid way to compare or tell that it is.

i lol'd at that part, but yeah don't use task killers, it's like this, i have a computer,no better yet an xbox...i have 19/20 gigs free, the xbox will run the same if it has 1 or 20 free. That's just storage space, its not anything else
Ok im really confused now? How do task killers not work it says i killed like 8 apps isn't that good so now they aren't waisting my battery? Sorry im new that might be a dumb question..

in short, in 2.2 and above, you kill a task, android restarts it. nuff said. wasting cpu cycles and battery suffers from it
Ok ya that makes sense thanks. What about on other roms like cm or miui? Are they useless there too?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
From what I know anything based on 2.2+ has app management built in so task killers are worthless. So pretty much any of those roms. Don't worry about using it.

My method is not scientific... I have ~ 200 photos on my sd card. I've tryd warm 2.2/ and miks... miks was faster loading photos than warm.
I went to cm6/// then 7 nightlys. The photos load 4x faster. In fairness I loaded CM6 gallery (availble on market) into miks and there was no difference in speed CM is hands down... faster IMHO
I use a start up manager it keeps apps from starting up in the first place. After that a app killer really isn't necessary. I still keep one installed just encase a app hangs for some reason. Yes I have read all the threads about app killers. Also a full hard drive will be slower than one that isn't. It's true that app killers don't really work that well but start up killers will.

What about the task killer in miui when u hold the home button? Is that bad too? Jw and i dont understand how they don't work bc when I first start my phone its slow but once i killed them its faster? I know u guys know better but just hard to beleive... Thanks btw

[Q] list of bloatwares??

well, since the rooting is on the way,
i was wondering if anyone could tell me all the bloatwares that you really don't need.
here's what i think i'll be uninstalling when the root gets available.
social hub
media hub (after i'm done using all $25 credit XD)
asphalt 6
blio
bonus apps
more for me
my account
my device
pro apps
slacker
tmobile mall
tmobile name id
tmobile tv
visual voicemail
video chat (i use tango)
zinio reader
is there something else that i should uninstall?
and is there something in the list that i souldn't be uninstalling ?
oh, and one more thing. removing these bloatwares are supposed to help free up some unnecessary rams on the phone right?
and this would help battery to last longer?
correct me if i'm wrong..
thx in advance.
by video chat do you mean qik? If not add that to the list.

I would keep the my acct app. I like it so I can track my data usage. Qik is the name of the video app bloatware.

ehh... i usually check my data usage by dialing #web# on the phone..
plus, i'm on 10gig plan anyway.. so don't really need it
anything else that i'm missing from the list?
Don't forget Talk. Hopefully after removing the forced version we can install the one that supports video.

If we're talking about a true, vanilla android experience then you should also include:
-411 & More
-Allshare
-Books
-Downloads (I prefer to just use a file explorer, no sense in having multiple apps that do the same thing)
-Files (I prefer a file explorer like Astro or Androidzip)
-IM
-Kies Air
-Lookout
-Netflix
-Photo Editor
-News and Weather
-Polaris Office
-TeleNav
Personally, I like to delete pretty much everything (even if I will use it) such as Netflix, then reinstall it from the market. I do this mainly to keep the system apps and my apps in their respective folders.
DM
thx. but can you also answer my other question too, about deleting all these will improve battery life and free up more ram or not ?
Holy Bloatware batman!
cant wait for root to delete it all. i have never in my life seen so much bloatware!! its getting worse and worse the newer the phones!! utter useless crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and TW sucks, ADW works so much better!
otherwise i love this phone so far.

removing bloat totally will help. i remember on the G2x BW was actually causing the phone to bootloop at random for some folks. bloatware should be illegal to put on the phone without a root requirement to delete it all.
the G2x bloat, and the G2 bloat was quite minimal, compared to the MT4G i came from, but this thing beats them all i think, i was a little ticked about it.
Thx for the answer

Stellar memory management apps!

2 free Market apps that really do the job:
MemoryBar Simple - Small status bar icon displaying free memory at 1 second intervals with seemingly no adverse effect on resources.
FMR Memory Cleaner - Wow, frees up memory like I have never seen. I was hovering around 100mb free, I used Fast Reboot Pro (up till now my go to memory free-up app) which freed up 70mb, which gave 170mb free, then tried FMR.. which resulted in 217mb free! Mind you, it did drop immediately to around 200, but the fact it frees up that much speaks for itself.
Seriously stellar apps.
Let me know how they work for you. Tips welcome. At least click "thanks".
Peace
Fab
They both work great!
I had to do a double take. I can't believe how much memory FMR shakes out.
I especially like MemoryBar! I though I had a good memory widget, but MemoryBar takes up very little real estate, and on the status bar at that. If you remove the background on it, it looks even better. Plus being able to have 1 second intervals with seemingly no impact on resources, makes it perfect for being able to know what is causing memory spikes and make sure my memory management apps actually do what they claim.
Thanks a tonne.

No problem. Ya i like deselecting the background on MemoryBar too. The background is kinda useless as it makes it harder to read anyways.

The only problem is FMR doesnt show up in the Market when using MIUI ROMs.
That's ok with me though. I don't mind just sticking to the other awesome ICS ROMs so long as I get that much memory freed up.

Are task killers okay to use?

Hey guys sorry if this is a stupid question, but I heard using task killer has some sort of negative effect? If I downloaded the latest task killer from the market would it hurt anything when I use it? I've avoided them forever and now I'm trying to save as much battery as possible so I figured i'd get a task killer. Any advice would be appreciated
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA
If you wanna save battery underclock and/or freeze active services you don't use.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk 2
My understanding is sometimes they kill services that android needs running, causing android to just start them up again and wasting more battery. From my experience juice defender is a better option for battery saving.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA
If you know what you are doing, yes. If an Android service keeps showing up then set it to ignore or whitelist it. There are still apps out there that once loaded do not release the memory back to the system so killing those is effective. If there are tons of apps in the task killer list then you will notice your phone slow down so that BS about android handling memory is just that. It is also useful to see apps that you don't use loading parts into memory. You can freeze them, list them in Autostarts or uninstall them if they are not really used.
Uninstall it and just use the v6 script set to aggressive.

[Q]my ram crosses 318mb/351 mb.all the sounds of my phone disappers

i have a strange problem with w.whenever my ram crosses 318mb/351 mb.all the sounds of my phone disappers.i cant play music, video,no locking and unlocking sounds.i have to restart the phone again.this happens atleast once every day.any thoughts on this?
OK....my best guess is it's the phones way of protecting it's "core" functions. The ram usage has reached a point where there is a danger of failure of its prime functions and it is attempting to divert ram from other non essential services. First thing you've got to do is find out what's eating your ram. There are apps available that can supply this information though I don't know what they're called as I've never had to use them (sorry) Are you using a lot of apps that run in the background to bring you notifications etc? If this is the case and you don't really need the app, delete it....simples.....
There is also a setting in CM9 that allows you to turn off background data if you need to keep the apps......give it a go and see....it might be all you need to do
From my Galaxy W on CM9 and CWM6 with Tapatalk 2
Other things to try.....
Keep the number of home screens to a minimum.....
Remove "Widgets" from your home screens....
Apps like Facebook, eBay, amazon, PayPal, hmv, game, email....basically any app that takes you to a website.....they ALL use ram and they will ALL restart if you close them......they can ALL be deleted and replaced by bookmarked web searches that can be pasted to your home screen....sure you won't get a notification if billy has commented on your status, or if you have an unread email, or if that item you're watching is ending soon, but if your phone works better as a result....who cares lol.......
If you want to take it further than that, root your phone (if you haven't already) and install Gemini app manager.....you can use it to prevent apps from auto running and using ram.......
