NAND root

Just wondering what we will end up gaining. I know what the root does, so you dont have to tell me that. But what will we get from it, better ROM's with more functions, apps that can do more with the phone? What is expected?

One main gain is flashing recovery images. its nice not needing my pc to flash new roms.

Well you can already do that with the clockworkmod and fake-flash.

Need to do the NAND root to do A2SD?
I am a noob and not too interested in getting to the programming guts of the EVO. I am currently running the damageless rom 3.0 and like it very much so I don't really want to mess with my current set-up if it is not necessary for me.
I do, however, very much want to do have Apps 2 SD when it is available in a future version of damageless rom so, my question is: Do I need to do the NAND root or can I just go with Toasts original root (Part 1) to do the A2SD at a later date? Any help would be appreciated.

Good lord, how was Ebay involved in uninstalling apps!?
Full root does allow you to delete system apps without being in recovery. You can delete most system apps while the phone is running, but some may give you a force close or a reboot.
If you aren't comfortable deleting files with adb commands you can use Android Commander here. Very useful GUI app which shows the contents of your phone like a file explorer.
One other benefit is that apps which need to write to /system are now working. One that comes to mind is adfree.

Do a back up root part 2 then restore your backup you will be right back where you where before you started.

[Q] og incredible on 2.3.4(s-on)bloatware help

followed the tutorial for the unrevoked rooting method..(mad props to all involved)
okay so my question is, im on the stock rom(2.3.4) rooted with HBOOT.92 and obviously have root acces, i want to get rid of a bunch of bloatware, vcast,app sharing ect ect.
in the past i had a htc eris and used root explorer and deleted all the bloat from the system/app folder and seemed to work flawless. i tried that but they are still there, then used titanium pro to uninstall them but no go, then i created a filter name "bloat" and melted it. well now the app are uninstalled but still are in my apps screen. i then tried to use root explorer again and they are not to be found in the system/app folder, i have a backup so io am not worried.
any suggestions on how to get rid of these bloatware, or could you recommend a rom low on memory usage that is close to stock rom, or maybe some nice visualized roms that are not to big on the memory.

This might sound obvious but did you reboot after deleting the apps?

Get S-Off then try removing the apps again.

You dont need s-off to remove apps just root. Deleting the apks with root explorer should work.

Or Titanium Backup, make sure busybox is installed, there's a busybox installer app free in the Market.

according to the tut,""*at this point,you could just enjoy root access without doing anything else. if all you care about is using a couple of root only apps,and deleting some bloatware,you can remain rooted and s-on if youd like.""

have tried that. they get deleted but show back up(mentioned it in the above post) system/apps folder right? is there another folder? mmec/system/apps?

tried to melt, delete, delete via recovery(cant mount system, aborted) will try with busybox installed.
thanX guys for the help so far. will try busy box and let ya know how that works..

I had this happen when 2.3 first came out, and I went to delete the apps and they'd just reappear on reboot. Installing busybox fixed my issue then.

well i think i may have figured it out, used this app System App remover, couldn't uninstall anything but disabled all the stuff i wanted to, then used root explorer to delete apk's in system/app.
installed busy box but didn't notice anything different.

Just flash a new rom. If you want something like stock or better I suggest any rom by Heyitslou, skyraider, or newtoroot sense 3.0 or lower.

installed busy box(is it like a plugin?) not sure wich one is the right one, installed the latest release. not sure how busy box works.(will google)

you don't need to do any of that.
Using root explorer:
Delete the .apk files from BOTH system/app AND data/app.
Reboot into recovery.
wipe cache
wipe dalvik cache
Reboot
Be patient as your phone rebuilds the cache and dalvik cache. Once you get to the unlock screen, wait another minute or two.

[Q] Question about tmobile software update

I have instslled Beastmod rom in my samsumg galasy s2. Yesteday I receive on my phone a new software system update from tmobile to install. My question is if I install this software update it would affect the Beastmod rom?

No flashing an official update on a custom rom is only asking for a bootloop

You can read this thread here but the basics are;
1) If you've only rooted your phone, (no custom ROM or kernel), you can let the update be applied and it should update correctly. Some folks have reported that it unrooted their phone in the process while others say it didn't.
2) If you've rooted your phone and installed a custom ROM, (like you say), then the update won't work, and will probably just boot you to the CWM screen. Your phone won't be affected but you'll still get the update notifications.
3) If you want to stop the update notifications, one method is to delete the data for the Device management app, and then freeze the app using something like Titanium Backup, NoBloat or SystemCleanup.
4) Or you can navigate to /system/app and delete or rename, wssyncmldm.apk and wssyncmlnps.apk

you can use perfect backup. look into system apps. click on device management -> details. -> clear cache. it clears it up for a few days. then you can repeat until there's an update on the ROM you have. that's what i've been doing and im using the beatmod v4.2 really good rom.

What is the difference between wssyncmldm.apk and wssyncmlnps.apk? I know that wssybcmldm.apk is the device management app.

wssyncmldm.apk is the Device Manager UI and wssyncmlnps.apk is the actual updater.

Ahh OK. So freezing the UI only wouldn't prevent it from downloading updates. . . Just informing you of them.

Rooting is the same procedure, just make sure you have the latest version of Superuser as a flashable zip. I think there is a thread floating around somewhere to see what bloatware you can/cannot delete.

You can download 'root uninstaller' from app market and it would back up all the apps for you. If you accidentally delete any app you don't suppose to, you would have a backup. Also it highlights some system apps RED that you might don't want to delete.

Hi, I just bought sgs4. It's from t-mobile with all their adds- wallpapers, programs etc. I would like to install stock android without any carrier rubbish. Could anyone help me to do this? I've already rooted my device and don't know what to do next. pls pls pls...

go to development section you will find roms there , just read and read.

Unfortunately there is no such thing as a "stock" debloated rom right now for the S4, all of them have some customization.
If you are looking for a really excellent rom to flash "Wicked v3" check this out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265998
It is not stock but it has all the carrier and samsung bloatware removed and has many outstanding features.

get titanium backup to remove any carrier bloatware apps, if you already have root then get a SU manager app and download goomanager and get TWRP recovery on your phone, after that you can download a stock.qmg to have the international i9500 boot up screen without the tmobile in it. that's as stock as I think you can get.

Titanium Backup no longer deletes all the bloatware system apps, it used be able to do remove
a lot of it before the S4 hit the scene. All Titanium can do now is simply "freeze" the system apps.
There are only perhaps 2-3 system apps at most which it can delete now, hopefully Titanium will
get updated so it will have the ability again to really do a good job getting rid of the bloatware.

Oh, I don't really use that to delete bloatware, I usually use root explorer and just delete the apps I just wanted to give him a easy workaround, you can also get an app called no more bloat o something like that, I works wonders.

Yes, root explorer can delete any files.
That's about the only way we can remove/delete bloatware now.
Even the "System App Remover" and the "Root Uninstaller" app
from the play store no longer removes/uninstall bloatware.
Those apps also need to be upgraded so they can delete bloatware in the S4.

OP just make sure that instead of deleting the apps with root explorer you 'move' them to a folder in your sd card, that way if you mess anything up you can always move the apps back where they belong. Best of luck.

??? No problems with TB whatsoever and i've been using it on the S4 since the beginning a month ago.
It deletes everything i want to, even without having a backup of the item.
