Hey all, i've been running through ROMs here going back and fourth trying to find the best one for me. And so far i love a couple of ROMS, but the only ROM where i get data speeds that are good is Snipers Lightweight ROM using EL29 modem and agats fl27 repack kernel. I want to be able to use this Kernel and modem on other ROMS (the blu kuban for instance), but it seems most of ROMs require a certain kernel. Is there anyway around this? so i can use whatever kernel i want on any ROM?

I don't think so. As you know, a kernel is like the base and the bridge between hardware( CPU,etc...) and apps. So if the rom isn't made for a specific kernel, the phone won't boot up
Yes you should be fine. The aroma installer included in Lightweight even has several different kernels to pick from, as they're all for ICS TouchWiz (like Blue Kuban ROM).
Now, if you're using a repack (like fi27), you won't have all the extra tweaking/over/underclocking options like you would from a custom source-built one. But if all you really care about is data speed then there should be no problem.

Hello everyone. It's been over a year since I rooted and flashed custom roms on my phone. So please excuse me for my question. So I rooted and installed Clockwork/TeamRogue with the help of ACS's youtube video. I see a lot of people on FE22, I am on EL29 and I am using The Blu Kuban's ICS rom. Is there is a difference having FE22 vs EL29?
Welcome back to flashing. First, a couple of things: As soon as you flashed the Blu Kuban your kernel was changed to the one that the ROM comes with. EL29 is the stock kernel that came with your phone (and is a Gingerbread kernel). I believe you are now using Calk's FD26 Repack kernel (an ICS kernel). Under 'About Phone' in your System settings it will tell you the kernel version you are using.
Unfortunately, EL29-FE22 are also numbers for modems. So you are probably still using the EL29 modem and the FD26 kernel. The Blu Kuban has an awesome ROM Updater in the System settings and contains all the different kernels and modems that you can use with the ROM. Just be sure to use safe flashing techniques as the E4GT is still very susceptible to being bricked.
And don't forget to follow the Blu Kuban development thread, there is a wealth of information in there.
Is it possible he's running the Blu Kuban GB ROM (hence the reference to EL29 unless he's talking modem) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1449023 as opposed to the Blu Kuban ICS ROM? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1625535
The main difference between EL29 and FE22 is that one (EL29) is Gingerbread while the other (FE22) is ICS.
Read up big time before making the leap to avoid any nasty bricks.
thank you for your help
strange. I went to the development section and installed the ICS version and used the FD26. I will make sure to readup

Good idea and enjoy, it's a fantastic ROM.
So I decided to try Cyan 9 and followed the instruction including adding EL 26 as it says in the instructions but it still shows EL29. If I decide to go back to Blu Kuban can I just use rom updater and flash the FE22 modem?
som roms come with kernels some without but most roms dont come with modems they leave it up to the flasher to flash modem seperately. blue kuban makes it ez by making it all available within the rom updater options for reduced bricking risk.

All roms come with kernels. They wouldn't boot if they didn't. I think you meant to say custom recovery.

Hello everyone. I have a question about all of those new kernels that are popping up rapidly in our community for ICS. I'm a pretty advanced phone user and I've been around the community for awhile so I know what a kernel is and things like that.
But anyways, I've been using EL26 fastboot stock CWM and EL29 stock CWM kernels before that to flash anything from ICS using Mobile Odin. Lately I've seen a ton of new kernels pop up and I'm wondering about their benefits.
Agat63's Repacked Kernels
Team Win Recovery Project Kernels
ReactiveDisorder's Kernels
I believe all of them are repacked with Recovery (I haven't tested them yet so I may be wrong) and they're all TW-based.
Could anyone explain what makes each of their kernels different and the benefits they offer? Do they bypass the emmc lockup or not? Which one is the most safe? I don't see how any of them could be drastically different because they aren't custom kernels since we don't have the ICS source yet.
Well for one thing, Agat's most recent repacks have some mileage on them with regards to being safe for flashing roms and wipes.

TWRP recovery/kernels are also known safe. There is a CM9 and TWiz version. I would stay from RADs repacked kernels.

Agat's and TWRP (for GB, ICS and CM9) both have code in place to basically prevent the edify scripts that were causing the EMMC bricks to even start. They are both safe for flashing.
ReActiveDisorder kernels blocked the wipe data option that was the primary source of the bricking. But it has been discontinued.
There is a safe CWM repacked kernel for CM9 and there is supposedly one on the works for AOKP.
For the most part what you are seeing are just stock kernels packed with a custom recovery. The really awesome kernels will be rolling out right as source hits.
Hi guys I'm new to the epic touch and was wondering if it is safe to flash a Ff11 from an already installed ff11 rom and how or is it necessary to restore to gingerbread before flashing the new ff11 rom. Lastly, what is the most stable ICS ROM with everything working? I tried AOKP and it had messed up video recording and bad wake up lag. Thank You

Yes it should be safe but just do yourself a favor and only flash, back, restore, wipe, etc from el26 cwm kernel/recovery. Most stable ICS rom would probably be just a stock leak or maybe calks 1.6 rom. I personally use CM9 and its good.
Thanks I did just that. A question though, why do the rooms have wake up lag... Is there a way to fix this?

Personally I wouldn't take the chance with the emmc bug. It takes like2 minutes longer but I ALWAYS flash back to el26. Just not worth chancing a brick.

All ics roms are still leaks. Some devs have been working on tweaks but no source yet to work from. Soon we hope.
I flash from EL29 there is no difference in flashing from EL26 or EL29. I have been using team venom's roms and they work great and really could be an over the air with absoultly no bugs what so ever. I use my phone fro work all day long 5 days a week and havent had the first minutes trouble.
I have flashed Multiple ROMS, and if your looking for batter life, the any ROM from Mijjz of Team Venum is definitely what you want they are all stabil. I am currently using "Mijjz Blend ICS " No Name" ROM. the Xplod Mini rom runs on a sony based kernel and works well, so if you want a differnt interface its a great choice while still keeping the battery life. Blu Kuban Rom is great if you want a variety of optional tweaks built into the ROM. There is a new Team on here called Team Rejectz they just released a new ROM that looks great, I'll be flashing that this morning, and Give you guys an update on how that turns out. I always flash back to either EL29 or EL26 before flashing a new ICS Rom.

Same here I have been using cm9 as my daily driver for the passed couple weeks and it is rock solid stable! Love ICS I cant imagine going back to Gingerbread after the ICS experience. Its alot faster, way nicer and just overall smashes gingerbread. Lol Not like IOS5-IOS6 where ya get 1 or 2 new features.. Features that Android have had since froyo..lool!
I am not going to research this, cause I am sure there are a ton of threads involving ROMs. What I am asking is for a poll. I just installed yesterday Wicked Sensations v1.4 with FF18 modem. I did that modem because prior to flashing to Wicked I had installed the FF18 on a stock Gingerbread 2.3.6. Seemed to work well on my phone. Anyway I am not liking Wicked to much; so I am asking all of you. What ROM are you running? What is the performance like? Is there any ROMs out that that have the overclock kernel built in? What issues are you seeing with the ROM you chose? I know the ultimate decision will be mine as to what ROM to use. Wither it's the stock android, or something else. I am asking this because before I started trying to flash to a different ROM I was only aware of Cyanogenmod 7. I get on here, and start looking around, and BAM! there are a TON of ROMs.
Blazer ROM
I'm currently running Blazer V4.1 as my daily driver. I flashed rogue_et-1.4.1+ kernel w/ OCing. I don't have any issues at all. best one I've ran so far.
I just started running CM9 Alfa5 build with TeamWins twrp- 2.1.8-epictouch-CM9-FF11(safe for flashing) kernel and can't be happier. Everything works as it should, it's really smooth and has a ton of bells and whistles.
If your looking for a GB roms try out GalaxyTask_14_Slim I used that one for a long long time. And if I decide to go back to GB that's the rom I would jump back to.

So I have got a question that maybe many others have yet to voice or address (maybe it's just me, and I am delusional). In any event, I am not new to rooting and flashing ROMS. I am also familiar--at least conceptually--with what the kernel is and what it does. For the purposes of this post however, I should mention that I have not ever flashed a custom kernel and am unsure as to why one would or why there is more than one floating around. I have been vacillating back on forth between stock and custom kernels....it seems like in order to flash this ROM you need this Kernel, or that ROM flash that Kernel. I want to learn and to know. I would really appreciate feedback on this.

Kernel's are installed or "flashed" in the same manner as a custom ROM, either through CWM or Odin. Kernel's just add an extra level of customization, most people use custom Kernel's for overclocking although they also have many other uses.
Kernals can also highly affect battery life and the speed of roms. The kernal has to match the kind of rom. Samsung kernals go with samsung/touchwiz based roms. Aosp kernals go with aosp based roms like cyanogenmod and aokp. There are a few jellybean kernals and those will work for the current jellybean aosp based roms. Samsung will eventually release their own jellybean update and when that happens expect to see jellybean samsung kernals made for roms based on samsung jellybean.
